Do you ever read some reviews and wonder, 'Did they go to the same place we just went to??'  I waffled a bit between four and five stars and decided on five after four excellent experiences at 55.

When an offer was made for a free dinner, I jumped at it.  I also jumped at the suggestion of going to 55.  It's a particularly good choice on Sunday and Monday nights since they have a prix fixe menu for $29 with 40 percent off all wine bottles.  This might be a good option for people who complain about waiting too long as it's much less crowded on these nights.

We started off with the caprese salad and the stuffed squash blossom.  The mozzarella is handmade and delicious along with fresh tomatoes and a light pesto sauce.  The blossom was stuffed with cheese and served along with sliced zucchini.  It was flavorful and probably the first time this dish lived up to the hype when I first heard about stuffed squash blossoms on NPR a few years ago.

The halibut was prepared perfectly and served over sauteed spinach and topped with a corn salsa.  The pasta was panzerotti stuffed with butternut squash like a ravioli and had a nice (but not cloying) sweetness.

Dessert included mango sorbet as well as profiteroles served with ice cream and chocolate sauce, both of which were good, although the profiterole pastry could have been a bit fresher.

Dining at 55 is enjoyable with its two level dining area above the bar.  It's tastefully decorated and very open with a two-story ceiling.  Complimenting the space is the professional service, which is attentive without being intrusive.  Even on a very busy night during restaurant week, I thought the wait staff did not miss a beat.

After trying it during restaurant week, I always wondered why I had not heard more about 55 as it's certainly better than a lot of other places around.  I'd recommend checking it on a Sunday or Monday.  Enjoy the great food, discounted wine, and great service!

I really hate giving places a bad review..but our experience here was just not worth even a decent one. I read the reviews others have posted about the place, and it looks like a few have had the same bad experience we had here last Friday night.

We arrived at 8 in hopes of having a nice, calm meal before looking to catch a movie around 10 after. The restaurant was packed as we assumed it would be (we'd been here before not to eat but just to grab late night drinks as their bar area is pretty lively on the weekends, definitely recommend that) and we requested possible outdoor seating as it was finally a nice Friday night weather wise in Fairfield County, and to our delight we were seated right away. Unfortunetly that practically ended the good about the whole experience right there. The waiter served our drinks efficiently enough, and took the orders in quick time. We ordered mussels for the app to split, and I had the seafood pan roast for the main.

All I can say after that is thank goodness we were sitting outside and there was a lot of people watching to keep us busy, as we began one of the longest waits I've had in recent memory for a starter to come out. At one point my girlfriend pointed out that it was 9pm, meaning the starter didnt come out for almost a whole HOUR. Much too long, and worse yet was when it did finally arrive, we didnt recieve any apology from the waiter at all, he just set the plate down and left without asking if we needed anything else. The mussels were good, sauce was full of flavor, but it made me regret ordering the seafood pan roast as there were just more mussels to come along, definitely a poor decision on my part.

And so after this is cleared we settled in for another 25 minute wait. At this point we had been there for an hour and a half with the starter just barely under our belts, and no sign of improvement anytime soon. Finally, at around 930 the mains came, and we wolfed these down, as we were both starving and anxious about missing our movie time that was now looming closer. I'm not one to really complain or ever send food back (if you put any kind of food that looks half decent in front of me trust me I'll eat it, thats what happens when you starve yourself as a 4 year college athlete) but the seafood pan roast was dreadful. No flavor, very boring all around. You could tell the chef didnt taste a thing that night as there was practically no seasoning on the plate at all. Very low quality food and service all around, and to sum up a very long review and a lot of wasted time for me to even write it (the guy who hates writing reviews) this is a place we will not be back to for food again.

I don't understand the negative reviews, but I have been here about four times and I've had great service and food each time.  I always order different things and I've never been disappointed.  The bread is delicious, every app and entrée I've had was amazing and don't pass up the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding!!

If you're sitting in the bar, don't expect the best service.  I was waiting for my date to arrive, and it took at least five minutes for someone to get me water.  And we had to hunt our server down for our check when it was all said and done.  In fact, when I tried to joke with our server, he gave me a dirty look.  Food was good, but I've had so much better in Fairfield County.  Personally, I think it was a bit overpriced for the portions we received.  Nothing I had floored me.  Probably wouldn't go again after this experience.

Food decent, service terrible turning a mediocre experience into a poor one.  Had a party of six at 6:30, began feeloing rushed immediately.  Usually when you tell the waiter you need 5 minutes to decide on your entre because you haven't had a chance to review the menu yet they give you a bit more than 30 seconds before they return to your table.

The serious "press" didn't begin until  7:45 however when a band of 3 waiters began standing near our table to remove plates that were clearly not completed yet (maybe if they didn't wait 30 minutes to bring our drinks we would have eaten faster).  They actually took my after dinner drink from right in front of me when it was only halfway consumed.

Will not be going there again and wll tell friends to stay away. I'll spend my $300 somewhere else and hope u do too!!!!

The apps were good, the dinner was bland. I had the pizza with the chicken on it and it really had no flavor. The service was just ok...it seemed as though it took a while for someone to come over to us. I went with 2 girlfriends and sat in the bar area and we were the only ones in there. Ambiance was great....but I prob wouldn't go there again.

CARLOS part owner, would not let me buy a 1/2 price drink for one of  the band members after i asked, and was spending over 50.00 at the bar with my own tab. CARLOS u scumbag, I will continue to badmouth your  establishment for being a low life and wanting to make me pay FULL price for a band members drink. THE BAND IS THE REASON SO MANY ppl WERE THERE. CARLOS low life cheap bitch.

DO NOT GO to this restaurant.  WILL NEVER eat here again. The manager/owner was annoyed for a good hour that we were still at our table...although we hadn't even received our food....he was eyeing us and making rude looks our way the entire night which i was clearly aware of...he clearly had people waiting for tables...Not my problem as we were paying customers and we werent taking a long time....We were literally pushed out of our table after spending $400.  When confronted, the managers/owners response to us was, we didnt have a reservation....and WHO sat us and took our money in the first place?  This manager/owner needs to go back to whatever country he came from and learn some respect!  What a douchebag!

This place was fantastic.  I frequent a lot of Italian restaurants in CT in search for a very good one, many times coming away with having a fair - good experience.  55 degrees hits the mark.

Atmosphere was perfect- not too loud, not too quiet.  Excellent varied wine list, both by the bottle and by the glass.  High points for my husband and I were the crab cake appetizer, fresh oysters.  I got the Chicken and Fontina pizza which was an easy 5 stars ( It rivaled some of the best pizza joints in New Haven).  My husband got the pasta carbonara, which he claims, they had his recipie! Haha.  The only low point was dessert, I didn't try it, but he says it was medicore.  Other than that, I would've given 5 stars.

Exceptional service, never had to wait for anything, staff were extremely professional and were always there.

Will definitely be back, as someone of Italian heritage married to an ex chef of 15 yrs in Fairfield County, we are hard to please.  Thanks for pleasing us, 55 degrees!  See you soon!

Sat down, looked over menu.  Waiter comes over, we order wine and put an order in for the Tomato and Mozzarella/Burrata Cheese  Appetizer.   Waiter comes back with the wine and we ask if we can also get the grilled calamari appetizer.  He looks at me with a strange look.   Leaves the table, and comes back 2 mintues later..."You need to put in your whole order now."   What????  I tell him I feel rushed.  He says that the kitchen gets busy on Saturday nights, and they want to get the order in.  So we put the order in.

Note:  We ate at 6:30 at night, the restaurant was not busy.  They pushed us in and out in an hour and fifteen minutes.  Both appetizers came at the same time and took over the entire table.   The waiter was very nice, but I think that there is a managerial problem here if you are hurrying people, when we did not take our time ordering.  We were there to have a nice table, not to take over a 2 top the entire evening!

Now, I am giving this a one star hopefully so the management can maybe one day see how ridiculous a situation I was in.  My fiancee and I were not happy with being hurried when spending over $100 on a dinner.  Also a one star, as I will never spend money here again.

The food?  3.5 stars.  The scallops were fantastic.  Grilled calamari?  Too firm, didn't finish it.  Tomato appetizer was fair (+).  Nice wine list.

I had heard a few good things about this wine bar so decided to make a happy hour trip to check it out.

Perhaps it was the fact that it was a Wednesday evening crowd, but I was certainly not impressed with the geezers chilling at the bar. More astonishingly was the limited wine by the glass menu. I thought wine bar and immediately thought I could choose between 50 -100 varieties and that was not the case at all.

We snacked on both the tuna and steak tartar and neither was spectacular in fact i felt the tuna to be off in temperature.

I will say - the service and the people were extremely attentive. Maybe I will change my mind if I go there and don't feel like the crowd just got out of an AARP meeting.

Went to this restaurant recently with a group of friends. The atmosphere and service were fantastic. The food varied depending on what you ordered. My halibut had clearly been frozen for a while and I could taste the water content. My friend had the lamb which I thought was delicious. I think everyone was pleased with the pastas although I thought, the butternut squash ravioli (called something else) was way too sweet. Would still try it again as the prices were reasonable for the atmosphere and you could have a great meal if you order the right things.

Sophisticated yet unpretentious. Broad spectrum of wines (as one would expect). However the wines by the glass options are not as good as the bottle list. The crowd was over 35ish (rare for Ffld). The 1/2 dozen bartenders are gracious and on the ball! I like that!
We just sat @ the bar which is at street level but one feels as if they are in the basement- its just darker & the walls are a wine color w great vaulted ceiling, but there are nice French doors on the far wall w a view of the Ffld train station.
We enjoyed the communal olives which were complimentary and quite good. Also we shared fisher island oysters, bloody mary granita, grey w goose- nice.
They become quite busy at happy hour and the dinning room upstairs filled quickly as well.
Ladies room was bright & immaculate.
    Parking can be a hassle.

Went with a friend, sat at the bar.  Seemed to be all male staff, very attentive and attractive. The wine list by the glass was diverse but not extensive.  Went on a Friday night it was busy, dimly lit and no music could be heard.  The atmosphere was lacking something.  There was only one ladies room and there was a line so I had to wait.  We did not eat there but enjoyed a bowl of fresh olives that were on the bar.  I did take a look at the menu and it looked inviting.  I would go back and give it another try.

Started out quite well. The grilled calamari used to be good as was the seafood in general, but the last couple of visits the quality and preparation have really fallen off. Dishes have arrived undercooked only to be microwaved upon complaint. Service has really been spotty and snooty lately as well. The handling of the wines has gotten to be comical, bartenders mixing two different wines in one glass when a bottle runs out. This happened to us and others on the same visit. Nice place but heading fast for 'past glory' status.

Great quality and environment is top for Fairfield, CT.  Wine selection by glass is attractive and chef quality prepared items will impress.

Went with a group of 10 and the service was VERY GOOD. Our waiters were very attentive. Wine list was good and the prices were pretty reasonable, however...the portions were very small for the price.  Food was average.  I wouldn't recommend the bar unless you are looking for an "older" date.  Music at the bar was lame.

This place is tucked away on one of the little side streets off of Post Rd and as such I only found out about it a month ago.  The restaurant itself is very nice and inviting plus the outdoor seating is a pleasant oasis on a beautiful day.  The staff is friendly and helpful which adds to the relaxed atmosphere.  The overall feel is refined but not pretentious.

In terms of food the salmon tartar is excellent as are the stuffed squash blossoms.  Also their cheese platter is very nice.  In the past I've had the grilled octopus which was unimpressive but also I'm not a big octopus fan so probably not the best authority on it.  One of the fish dishes I had was well prepared but nothing exceptional.  For drinks I'd highly recommend the watermelon mojitos, perfect summer drink and they make them potent.  They also carry a nice wine selection.  Typical Fairfield pricing.

My only issue with this place is that after two out of three times I ate there I ended up feeling sick.  Can't really say whether it was the food or overindulging but it made me knock it down a bit.  However none of it was bad enough to keep me from returning.

So this is where the beautiful people in Fairfield try to go; I had no idea. Just stumbled in there on a whim. Around 11pm, a interesting mix of Cougars on the prowl, small groups of 30 something chicks hoping they can meet Mr. Right, two Sugar Daddies with their "dates" , a bunch of Boomers out late, 1 or 2 openly gay couples, and your average couples out on date-night. Wine selection is decent, but nothing I can rave about. Would have been nice to see a few more American wines on the menu, but no biggie. Very limited seating at the bar. Nice hangout - may try it again.

The roasted chicken was splendid -- the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, and accompanied by delicious sausage, spinach, and mashed potatoes. The service was excellent (though the food does take a bit of time to arrive) and the ambience great.

Fantastic food in a warm and welcoming environment. A fine assortment of wines by the glass at a comfortable and roomy bar. From the beveled glass in the windows, to the airy beams in the bar area, the remake of this Italian restaurant next to the Fairfield Metro North Station is great.
Expect a warm welcome and attentive service from an extended family with lots of restaurant experience. We'll be back regularly.

Excellent food and service at this Fairfield newcomer.  They took a dump and made it into the next great neighborhood hangout for great food and service.  Keep up the good work and innovation on the menu for best results.  Standout dishes - Panzoratti with Butternut squash, ...not sure I spelled that right/  Half chicken with cherry peppers and sausage/ Grilled calamari w/white beans/ also as a side note - very friendly atmoshphere.
