We love ethnic food of all stripes and excited to read about the highly rated take-out halfway between our home in New York and our weekend place in the Poconos. Â The 809 was not what we expected. Â It's a small hard-to-see storefront, unless you know it's located directly across the highway from the State Police in Swiftwater, on the northbound side of Route 611. Â
The food is ready-prepared, laid-out buffet style behind the counter. Â You choose from among the offerings there and they serve them up for you in take-out containers. Â Despite the extensive menu, there are few choices. Â Most of the menu is "we don't have that today." Â Got soup? Â Not today. Â How about a sandwich. Â We don't have any bread.
We can describe it as Dominican comfort food - chicken or pork over rice with sides of brown beans in sauce.
We're happy we tried it and the service is friendly, but the 809 Take-out has limited appeal..
