It seems so strange to write a review on such a big chain restaurant, but, here I am!
Yesterday, Superbowl Sunday, we were feeling a little down since our team the Patriots weren't playing, so we headed to 99 for some lunch, beer, and Celtics watching.
We went around 3, and it was really quiet. A big group of friends were at the bar (where we sat), but they were very mild mannered. There was one bartender serving all of us, and he did a great job. He was very attentive and even asked me how my dessert was. I said "GREAT!" with a mouth full of apple crisp. How kind!
The boyfriend ordered an XL plate of buffalo chicken tenders. It was indeed a big serving! Probably perfect to share between two people. I ate his celery and blue cheese. It's nice he shares.
I ordered country fried chicken. I've never noticed it on the menu, and it's not something I would usually get, but I was SO SURPRISED at how good it was! The chicken, two pieces, was thin and really crispy with great breading. It came with mashed potatoes, perfectly seasoned, broccoli (which I'm pretty sure was steamed fresh, not heated from frozen), cranberry sauce, and covered in a really tasty gravy. It filled me up, and I was able to eat the other half for lunch the next day (it re-heated beautifully).
I also had apple crisp for dessert. It was very yummy, the apples were not total mush. The topping had nuts in it, which if you don't like nuts, don't get it. It was the perfect temp, nice and hot, and was a pretty good sized portion (I couldn't finish it after eating all that food).
We had beer and strawberry lemonade, both good!!
It's the 99 for God sakes people... Â lighten up. Â It's reasonable, the food is decent, the servers painfully slow but mean well and are polite and friendly. Â The grilled salmon is actually really good and the grilled veggies crisp, fresh and not soggy. Â
If you hate it so much, don't be a cheapskate and go somewhere else. Â Their radio commercials are annoying as hell though..
Hey, don't listen to these haters! The bar is great. Sean, Sammie, Stacy, etc are all great bartenders and very friendly.
Sean reminds me of Woody Harrelson's character in the show Cheers. He doesn't always pick-up on jokes right away, but he knows his craft well. Mixology is a craft. He has a signature drink, but I forget what it's called.
However, beyond them all Jack stands-out the most. If you stop by the bar, definitely ask for Jack.
The restaurant is what you would expect from any restaurant in its caliber. Â
This particular location gets mixed reviews from me. Â Depending on whom you may get as a waiter or waitress you will receive great or bad service. Â
My family and I have dined at this location for several years (5), and in those five years I've only had to really make a direct complaint to management once; all the other times mistakes were made - but not such big ones that would get someone in trouble. Â
The only thing that I can really complain about is the bathroom(s). Â They unfortunately are always dirty, nonfunctional and not maintained. Â We've made about 11 calls to HQ about it, but as of today - nothing has been done about it and not one person has called to just acknowledge the issue.
In conclusion - if you are expecting to go to this 99 or any other and expect a lavish enviroment, then you are going to the wrong place. Â Just look at this restaurant as a local pub. Â If something does get served not to your satisfaction - they are quick to resolve it. Â The key thing is to treat people with respect and they will do the same. Â I don't think people come to work there to serve you crappy food. Â Sometimes people are off their game or they just started. Â If it's bad then say something - return and have them make it again or order something different. Â Simply put, the dish may not be for you. Â
So to quickly recap:
Bathrooms need to be cleaned
Service is good
Food is good for the type of place
I went here tonight with my girlfriend and cousin, and I have nothing but good things to say about this 99 location! I thought I wouldn't find a good location since trying the North Attleboro one, but the Braintree one is just absolutely awesome!! The waitress we had was super nice! She kept checking to see if we needed anything, and she was very friendly! And the manager even came over and asked how everything was and if we needed anything also. Overall the staff here is super friendly, the atmosphere is very quiet and comfortable. This location is the perfect place to go for a relaxing meal, and time with family or friends! :)
Review Source:They'd get zip from me if it wasn't for the bartenders who God love them, do the best they can with what they have to work with. Â The food is pretty bad. Â OK, it's terrible. Â The bartenders are great though, attentive, friendly but not all up in your face, they seem like they try and get to know their clientele. Â If you want to go for a drink, you'll be fine. Â But you might want to go elsewhere to eat.
Review Source:My friend and I went here and had the most quiet waiter there. We could barely hear him talk, he had no personality and our meals were bland. I have never had a problem with this restaurant until now.
UPDATE: I gave this place another chance and I shouldn't have. They got my order wrong both times I went. I will NEVER come here again.
This review is primarily for the Bar side, not the restaurant.
The bartenders are great here. Sean in particular reminds me of a Sam Melone from Cheers. He knows everyones names and what their usual drinks are. The beers are well priced, not too high, and always cold. The mixed drinks are well made and very tasty.
The food is very good. Steaks come out cooked how you want them. The country fried chicken is excellent as well. The buffalo wings, boneless and bone in, are great! Meaty and not too spicy.
Stopped going to this location for awhile beacuse we had some issues. Started going back a few months ago and had no problems until last night. When we came in there were like 6 staff members talking and hanging out at the hostess station. They sat down and we waited and waited for are waitress to come over. After a few minutes they sat another party in front of are table. A couple minutes later the waitress came over and Guess who's table she went to first? The ones that just got seated. Well we got up and asked to be moved to the other room and told the hostess what had happened. Now you think after we just had a problem you think the hostess would send the waitress right over not.  We are sitting there a couple minutes and the  place is not croweded lots of empty tables. A nice waitress asked  us if we have be waited on yet we said no. She took are drink orderes and said she would send are waiter over. He came over not a hi or sorry to keep you  waiting. Took are orders my husband ordered a Ceasar to start and asked for no Cheese. Well his salad came out with cheese. Waiter says sorry my fault. Replaced his salad with no cheese. Ordered prime rib was very good and husbands meal was also good. Was waiting to pay my bill had to wait for him to come back. He knewi was waiting to pay yet he firsts takes an order from a table of 6. Lets just say by me waiting cost him a couple of bucks on his tip. Going back to the Weymouth 99 a few miles up the road . Never have a problem and the manager is ALWAYS visable.
Review Source:I am amazed about the low ratings of this restaurant.
I visit this restaurant quite a lot and the food is absolutely delicious, the price is low and the servers are very quick.
Last time I went here I had buffalo wings as an appetizer, which are extremely good and much better than some more expensive restaurant ones. Actually they are my favorites. As an entree I had fried shrimp with french fries and cole slaw. The shrimp was fresh and fried to perfection. I loved it. And then for dessert I had ice cream sundae which was also very satisfying.
The waitresses are very nice and unbelievably quick.
Another thing I like about this restaurant is that I don't have to wait long for my food.
I love it and can only recommend it.
It is nice to walk out of a restaurant that satisfied your appetite, your wallet and your time.
One of the two things that I like about this place is their Potato and Skins Sampler. Â They give you 4 potato skins (wish it was more) and a lot of buffalo chicken tenders.
I also like their root beer floats. Â They are really big and give you lots of ice cream. HOWEVER, the second time I ordered a root beer float, after eating the first scoop of ice cream, I discovered that the glass was filled with ice cubes. Â I felt cheated. Â So, if you order one, tell them no ice cubes. Â The first one I had was SO GOOD, it's a shame they failed on the second one. Â
Also, the place is full of screaming babies and kids. Â I know it's a family restaurant, but that doesn't mean it isn't annoying. Â I'm sure I'll be in a restaurant one day with my own screaming baby, but until then, I'm just gonna complain on Yelp!
This place isn't as bad as the other reviewers make it out to be. Â They had a few drink specials ($1.99 domestic pints and $3.99 margaritas-jose cuervo) and reasonably priced food. Â Entree's were priced from 10-14$, big portions and decent quality. Â I especially liked the chicken fingers and fries. Â The steak was over cooked (ordered medium rare and received well done) but this is actually what I expected for the $9.99 steak/chicken finger meal. Â The steak was tasty even though it was over cooked. Â Essentially if you are looking for something cheap and mediocre with decent service, then you will find it here.
Review Source:I got 99 problems, and this place is number one.
First of all, the food here BLOWS. Â Their food is something you would expect from a hospital cafeteria or a run down shit of the mill Friendly's. Â I am still shocked this place is a chain restaurant. Â Their food is stale, their fries are doused in so much salt, you'll need to pop Coumadin (or the generic Warfarin) directly afterwards. Â And the service? Â Slow, awful, and agonizing. Â I do not recommend ever stepping foot into a 99. Â
As a matter of fact, I am ashamed to ever admit this chain started off from our state. Â If I can disassociate 3 things that are from Boston, it would the 99, Aerosmith, and Dane Cook.
Being an affordable chain does not give you the excuse to be bad.
I went here out of convenience, not so much by choice.
My pecan crusted chicken salad was good, I really enjoyed it but so many other thing just knock this place down.
-don't give us complimentary popcorn if it is blah.
-our waitress smelled like an ashtray. People have the right to smoke but not so much that you trail it along and turn people off from eating.
- I asked for an ice tea, specifically unsweetened ice tea. The ice tea I got was sweeten bit extremely bitter. A clear sign that the tea bag to water ratio was really off or the tea bags were left in there far to long. I took a sip and told the waitress that I would rather have water since it is bad, she said fine like she had heard that one before.
-my co-worker's salad was forgotten about and he had to ask and wait for it
Good luck if you give this place a try
I watched my waitress talk to some male employee for 95% of my meal. I had to ask another waitress to refill my soda and do other things. The only thing the original waitress did for me was give me my check.
You deserve that 23 cent tip Christina.
Never had bad service at the other Ninety Nine's until this one.
I have generally been a big fan of the Ninety Nine restaurants, but it seems that they have been making some of them over of late, including the one in Braintree, and the cozy feel has disappeared. What I liked about this place was that it was a dark and well-worn but comfortable, making it a perfect place to enjoy a leisurely bite to eat and a couple of beers while watching a game. But now it feels like the type of place that you don't really feel like sticking around in, as it has some faux-upscale touches and a brighter overall feel, which might appeal to some, but definitely not me. Also, the food doesn't seem quite good as in the past, but it's still better than some of the competing chains.
Perhaps I'm in the minority when I say that I yearn for the Ninety Nines of old. But it just doesn't seem to have any sort of charm at all anymore, so I'll probably look elsewhere when I'm in the area and want some pub grub and beer.
