I've eaten here 3 times so far (I know, not much of a statistical sample), but I've been thoroughly unimpressed by the food. I got a turkey/veggie wrap twice. Tasted good, but both times they were very watery from some of the ingredients, and both times they fell apart in my hands after the first bite. Learn to make a proper wrap! The other time I got a buffalo chicken pizza. It was probably the worst pizza I've had in a very long time. The ingredients were cheap and sparse, the taste was okay, the slices were too moist so they drooped considerably, letting all the toppings and cheese slide off. The service and attitude of the employees I've encountered is the only thing that's helping them in my opinion. Except for one time when I was in there and the place was full. All the tables were occupied and there were several people waiting for tables, when what did I see? An employee on break taking up a whole table, just talking on his phone. I was not impressed, and frankly I found it highly unprofessional.
Three strikes and you're out!
like all the other greek pizza places around here. It sucked!
I ordered a calzone with extra spinach and sausage. They don't understand extra. The sausages are those same rabbit crap shaped sausage balls that every single pizza place up here uses. The crust, if you want to call it that, taste like cardboard.
Where can you get real italian pizza up here???
This place has been a real hit or miss. First off their fish sandwich is AWESOME love it. Pasta...not so much. Also i ordered the fish and chips...let me add again how wonderful the fish is but they give you this HUGE to-go box of fries and you have to fish around(no pun intended) to find the fish in the sea of fries. Didn't mean for that to sound as funny as it came out haha. They give you hardly any fish. Hadn't tried the pizza or the roast beef yet but living down the street and not having a horrible experience im sure ill be back.
Review Source:i want to like Alex's.....I really do. The place is clean, the staff is friendly and their menu selection is vast. However, my family always jokes about how they take every item and run it through a taste extractor before they serve you...put another way...the food can be pretty bland in taste...not bad mind you but not "tasty".
My last trip to Alex's has to be my last....the woman in back doing the pizza's picked a piece of trash off the floor and put it in the trash bin....then pushed the trash down so she would have more room in the trash bin....then, sadly turned around and began to make someone's pizza without washing her hands.....check please.....sorry, I know no one would ever eat out if we knew everything that goes on in a commercial kitchen but once I've seen it I can't get past it.
Sorry Alex's......
I used to skip straight past Topsfield Center, head up rt. 97 and eat in North Beverly, but the opening of Alex's has finally given me a reason to eat a bit closer to home.
Speaking about only the Roast Beef here, as I haven't had much else on the menu yet --- Alex's is legit. The portions are huge, the sauce is good, and the roll, it ain't bad either. Â
An added bonus was the fact that they carry Moxie, aka 'the soda that only your grandmother could love' as well as a bunch of other hard-to-find flavors.
Darn good calzones and a good roast beef sandwich. Â I have yet to try their pizza, so I can only give it a 4 out of 5. Â I still enjoy good old Topsfield house of pizza...but it's nice to have competition that hopefully doesn't destroy the other. Â If you're in the area, this place is good.
Review Source:Alex's just opened on the Main drag in Topsfield, that 2.5 blocks of splendor that turns into a wasteland at 5:00pm (cue the tumbleweed and whistling wind). . .but wait. . .Alex's is open until 9 weekdays and 10 on Saturday! Closed Sunday.
Could this be the beginning of night life in Topsfield? Well. . .probably not. But at least it's somewhere to go for a quick meal or snack in the evening.
Alex's is a sub shop. I'm not sure why they called it roast beef - I'm sure they have roast beef. . .but it has one of those subshop menus with the little plastic letters that has EVERYTHING in the world on it. They could have called it Alex's Kebab, Alex's subs, Alex's Pizza. . .and been just as correct.
Pizza, pasta, subs of all kinds, hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken fingers, fries, sides of anything you could possibly imagine(I think I might have seen "side of olive pits 2.00". . .no, just a hallucination. . ), avgolemono soup. . .you get the idea.
I had the chicken kebab salad. Totally standard, and fine - Also at my table - spaghetti with marinara. HUGE portion. Â Small (12") hawaiian pizza. AND. . a hot dog, the only size they had, which was humongous. Probably 3X the size of a standard dog. Everyone was happy.
They have a TV in one corner playing sports stuff.
It was all good, and cheap. Next time I'll actually try the roast beef.
