This past Saturday, my friend and I wanted to get a bite to eat and have a few drinks before the Jason Aldean show and we stopped at Amrheins. I have to say I was very impressed. The food was good - I had the hamburger and fries - and the service was fantastic. What impressed me the most was the warm and jovial ambiance set by the bartender. He was so friendly and personable and had us laughing. His irish accent was an added bonus!  Typically, I am a Guinness girl but he suggested I try a Guinness w/ raspberry.. mmmm it was so yummy.  When I go out around town I find that the service has become quite mediocre and impersonable. Staff interact and tend to the basic needs of their customers - never going above and beyond.  This experience stood out in that the bartender at Amrheins created an atmosphere in which I felt attended to, charmed and satisfied (even though he had a full bar!).  He was consistent in his service to all of his customers and created a positive environment that will keep everyone coming back for more. What a very pleasant experience.

I need to respond to Don D's comments because they are not correct.

I have been to Amrheins at least 9 times over the nine years that I've lived here.  In my opinion before the renovations, the food was decent.  The 4-5 times that I went there for business lunches and for dinner the food was good, reasonably priced, and service was good.

After the renovations, the food has not been consistent, the prices have increased, and the service is haphazard.  The example of the clam pizza being brought out raw happened within the past 6 - 8 months.  It did not happen years ago.  After we informed the waitress, so was completely embarrassed and apologetic.  We told her we didn't want it and to take it off the bill.  Instead they tried to make up for it by bringing us out another pizza and not charging us.

Like I said before Amrheins is not a place that I will be frequenting since there are so many other comparable restaurants in the neighborhood with better food and comparable prices.  The only thing that I might go back and try is the brunch. Again someone had said to me this weekend that the brunch is good.  I would not be surprised since I love Mul's Diner across the street who is owned by the same people as Amrheins!

Have never had a bad meal here. Friendly and fast service. Huge portions. I wish they'd bring back the warm pretzel-type bread. Pumpkin risotto served in the fall shouldn't be missed.

Oh dear, so disappointing.  Faced with the prospect that this may become our local bar (decidedly not), we stopped in on a Friday at around 9pm.  My partner was fresh-off a CrossFit competition win (really, a massacre), our bellies were full of nothing but beer, and we would have eaten just about anything at that point.

We should have known better when we saw the "family dining since..." sign.  My partner even pointed it out and made a joke.  I chose to ignore it because, hey, let's keep an open mind - this may be the place we spend all our free weekend nights.

First off, this restaurant is dark, huge, and very outdated.   Sitting in the bar area you're OK, but the rest of the restaurant looks massive, dated, and sad.  Dark wood, white linen, large baquette-like spaces...needs a facelift.  We asked to be seated in the bar area, and that was not a problem.

The next ignored-sign was when the server (who, admittedly, was sweet, friendly, and absolutely amazing) said that their taps were broken and all they had were bottled beers.  Ok, that's a disappointment but it happens. Luckily, places usually keep the more exotic (read: tasty) beers on hand in bottle-form anyway.  We asked for the list of bottled bevvies: miller, coors, bud, heineken...you get the idea.

Fine.  Let's go for a cocktail instead.  My partner went to ask the bartender which bourbons he carried, and, after looking confused for a moment, started naming off scotch bottles and (somewhat frantically and hurriedly) looking through the alcohol shelf to try and identify any bourbon.  Finally, he came with one (bottom shelf) bourbon offering and made us some (very subpar) Manhattans.  To be fair, much of this was the fault of the bourbon, however, and not really the bartender's mistake.

We settled into the dinner menu and quickly realized that this offering was one-part cheap-pub-fare, and one-part 1980s-family-dining-restaurant.  Crap.

In lieu of an app, we went with a caprese salad ($15?) that touted "house made mozzarella".  I am not sure what's going on back there, but the mozz didn't have the delicacy of in-house-made (or if it was, then it certainly didn't taste like it was made recently, as it was very hard), and the 3 alternating slices of mozz and tomato, with a bit of balsamic drizzle, did not warrant the price tag.

For entrees, we had a burger (asked for medium rare, came out medium well) with fries (menu states they are hand-cut, but mine tasted like freezer burn...what gives, Amrheins? Are these made in-house or did they come from the freezer?), and we had an order of (baked?  it was colorless) chicken with pasta.

The chicken came with green (spinach) gnocchi, and was swimming in a plate of gravy. On its own, this dish was soupy, mushy, and bland, but with the lovely bread they serve to accompany the meal, the sauce served a lovely purpose and all was not lost.

The best things about Amrheins are 1. the lovely lovely servers who are so sweet, and 2. the delicious, always-served-warm bread with accompanying olive oil.

While I will never come back here, I will always fondly remember our spunky little server! She was a peach.

How do I love the brunch at Amrheins?  Let me count the ways.  The fresh strawberries, delicious yogurt and granola.  The tomato, basil and mozzarella salad.  The homemade mac n cheese.  Chicken wings where the meat just falls off the bone.  All the staples like bacon, eggs, sausage links, eggs benedict, home made corned beef hash, omellette station.  The dessert!  Double chocolate cake, German chocolate cake, tiramisu, strawberry shortcake.  Yummmm.....very reasonably priced.  Fresh squeezed orange juice.  $25 a person.  Sounds like a darn good deal to me!  :-)
I've been for dinner previously and it was mediocre at best, but the brunch is to die for.

Sunday Brunch is a regular with my family.  We don't typically travel into Boston to eat but Amrheins is worth the drive.  They also have their own parking lot which make it so much easier.  The food is outstanding, with plenty of meat options, great sides and desserts.  My two young kids are always able to find plenty they like and my wife and I are always pleased with the experience.  The staff do a great job of making us feel welcome and unlike many of the hotel Sunday brunches Amrheins is very reasonable.  We use Opentable to make our reservations and have never had a problem.

In many ways, Amrheins represents "Olde Boston" but don't be fooled. This restaurant has kept pace with the times while offering a sentimental nod to the past. We enjoyed a terrific dinner on a cold and blustery evening. The place has such a warm and inviting feel with exceptional, friendly service. Our meals were nicely prepared presentations...ample and flavorful fare at a reasonable price. The menu has much to offer...from classic dishes to creative offerings prepared by a talented staff. This is a great destination spot for convenience as well with a large parking lot or easy access to  the Broadway Red Line T Station and I believe Amrheins will offer to shuttle patrons. There are no excuses for NOT being able to dine here. On the edge of downtown Boston, it is actually an interesting "walkable" location.
I plan on returning to Amrheins more often....I'm especially looking forward to the warmer weather when the inviting outdoor patio is open for the season. If you are visiting Boston, check this place out for a taste of where "the locals" have come to know and appreciate.

Amrheins is a Southie staple.  Whenever we have the money, we like to take our family here.  The food is great and the staff is friendly.  I highly reccomend stopping here if you are new to the area!  Come taste a little bit of Southie flare at Amrheins!!

This is a South Boston gem.  Known for great comfort food with a variety of steaks, seafood & appetizers.  Prices are good & there is parking in the lot next to restaurant--hard to find in South Boston.  Good food at good prices.

This review is a little over do but here goes. It was December 2012 and my friend and I were doing some Christmas shopping in the city. I am a born and raised Bostonian but moved out of the city in the 70's. After a day of shopping, we wanted to dine in the city but not necessarily in the heart of down town. (The parking meter was ticking)  Decided to drive through my old stomping ground Southie. Easy decision. Let's try Amrheins!  Had been there before but it had been a while. WOW!  Very impressive. My friend and I were wowed over how nicely decorated the restaurant was for Christmas. The decorations created a warm and cozy ambiance. Food was excellent. Great value for the quality of the product. Vowed to go back in the near future. Free parking too!!  ;)
It was nice to be back!  Would highly recommend. I have always said, you can take the kid out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the kid! How true!

I wish I could say Amrheins is good for big groups and brunch, but it's not.

I had made a reservation on OpenTable for a large party, weeks in advance for Sunday brunch. The first red flag was that nobody called me to confirm my reservation. For a restaurant that is over 100 years old, I expected that they'd follow the standard protocol to confirm. I called Amrheins the evening before, and the hostess assured me that the table will fit all 12 of us. She even asked if there were any elderly guests in my party (we had none), which I thought was considerate.

When we arrived, they brought us to a round high-top booth table that could probably fit only 6 people comfortably. This was poorly planned on their part, and the staff could not offer anything besides bring out a few extra chairs, but to no avail. We were squished like sardines, along with all of our coats and purses. Mind you, we are pretty average-sized people. I had zero elbow room and felt like a T-Rex struggling to use its arms. Because it was a booth table and not individual chairs, we had to coordinate getting our food from the buffet at the same time. If someone sitting in the middle had to use the restroom, all of us would have to get up and let that person free. It was honestly one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences.

The AYCE brunch buffet is on Sundays only, in Amrheins's bar room. $25 per person covers food, coffee/juice/tea, tax, and gratuity.

Highlights: omelette station, carving station & desserts
Fail: *cold* steak, mashed potatoes, yogurt (bowl not properly kept on ice)
MIA: waffles, French toast, chicken pot pies - I was actually looking forward to these specific items, which were listed on the web site.

Everything else tasted mediocre. To be fair, the food never ran out, there was a wide selection, and *almost* everything was served hot. Our waiter was quick to clear our plates and refill drinks, though he was not particularly personable. Also, we were never offered a cocktail menu.

I can't say I'll return for brunch, or with a large group ever, especially if Tavern in the Square supposedly offers a better brunch buffet and guarantees seating for large parties. Maybe dinner is a different story?

I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but since it is close to work, it's a decent place to grab lunch or brunch. The food is typical American and the service (waitress and food service) can be somewhat slow.

I typically order their grilled salmon wrap because it is on the lighter side. The salmon tastes pretty good, but I feel like I could cook something similar at home (not a bad thing, but it doesn't make me inclined to make a special trip to this restaurant).

There is ample seating, and a variety of American good, so it's a good choice for work lunches or large groups needing a place to get food.

I love this place, food is great but the service is better! My boyfriend and I came in for our second time and sat at the bar only to be pleasantly surprised by Lisa:) we have had her both time we were here and she is amazing. Attentive, delightful and down right awesome! Please clone her :)

    1) Both times I was here, my food came out wrong. One of the times I got seafood that was absolutely horrible :-(
    2) I sat at the bar, the female bartender was awesome! She was super attentive and when I had to send back my food was more than nice about it (I really hate sending back food)
    3) The waiters all sit around gossiping and discussing inappropriate subjects (think electronic "toys" at a table right next to the bathroom. Even more frustrating is when  you are waiting for them at your table.
    4) Good drink menu though! Winter martinis are delicious

We had a Groupon for Amrheins because we had heard good things, and we were finally able to use it back in November.

I had the "creamy pumpkin martini" w baileys, stoli vanil and pumpkin spice - and even though i never drink vodka (like, never ever) i really loved this drink. It also got me hammered really quickly so that helped.

I would definitely recommend Amrheins for it's comfort food - the place itself is so comfortable and the food just embraces you. Can't wait to go back.

Amrheins has improved drastically since the first time I went a few years ago!  Perhaps they have a new chef, because everything I've had from brunch to dinner is cooked from scratch and delicious.  The brunch buffet has so many options to choose from that I count it as my one meal of the day.  My favorite is the brunch pasta with creamy sauce and fresh veggies.  The chicken caesar salad option is also fantastic.  Go early or make reservations because the place can get pretty packed.  Love this place!

The service was great! The wait staff was fast, friendly, and seem to know to come to the table just at the right time, they didn't hover or or bother us during the meal.

Atmosphere was perfectly fitting for the cuisine.

The food was delicious, the portions were HUGE!

The braised short ribs just melted and steaks were tender and cooked exactly to order.

The only negative and it's not really a negative is that the portions were so large I didn't get a chance to try any appetizers and the all looked phenomenal.

1 of the best things about this place is their parking lot! It is usually my "girls night" meet up spot due to that fact and because it is so close to the highway and T, making it easily accessible for everyone.  Steak tips are pretty good, I've only had a salad w tips every time I've gone there.  Service can some times be a little slow.

I have the ultimate love/hate relationship with this place.  The food is consistently good and the bar is on point.  But good luck getting any of it.  If you come in during times when human beings eat, the service will not be good.  Seriously, during brunch we once waited 45 minutes for our coffees and mimosas.  When we finally asked the manager what was happening, she asked our server.  In front of us, our server claimed we never ordered AND that we weren't actually her table.  And the manager responded by asking us if we were sure that we ordered drinks.  The best part, her name was on our check with the drinks on the table when we had this conversation because she dropped the check right after we ordered.

If you want a late night dinner, your food will be great and your service will be attentive.  Because your server will tell you that she's "ready to go as soon as you finish".  Even though there is 90 minutes until the kitchen closes.

But this is what you'll deal with for their pumpkin risotto and turkey tips...

*le sigh* take out it is.

I have come here many times since moving to Southie 2 years ago, but the dinner I had last night was worth a review.  My boyfriend and I were looking for an easy, "home cooked-like" and both were achieved.  We were seated right away in the dining room portion.  Hometown, old people decor kind of feel, but very comfortable.

The waitress was very nice and quick.  After we got our drinks and ordered the meal, however, we had to wait a bit for the appetizers.  We got bread to hold us over, but felt it was unusually long. We ordered the bruschetta, which looked different from the last time we were there, but it was amazing.  A little unique - tomatoes, artichokes, peppers, and other vegetables with a large piece of bread, goat cheese and mozzarella.  It was so tasty and will definitely be ordered again!  My boyfriend got the onion soup which was "eh" in his opinion but he considers himself an onion soup connoisseur.

After the appetizers we waited quite a bit again for the main course.  Both times that we were waiting the waitress came over, apologized profusely, and explained how it was a new chef (hence the different bruschetta) and offered to take items off the bill for our patience.  After we got our entrees she told us that it was unacceptable for our wait time and decided that the restaurant will pay for our entire meal - drinks and all!  I found it to be very nice of them considering we've waited a lot longer at other more expensive restaurants without even an apology (P.S. I hope our sever found our $20 tip under the beer bottle - how to do you tip when you don't even get a bill? :) )

I got the Chicken Bella Bocca, a little "saucy" for me, but still very good.  My boyfriend got the stir fry that came with a lot of chicken and vegetables.  Again, very good.  Great comfort food.

All in all, the servers there are attentive, aware of the people they're serving, and the food is great for the price and selection. Highly recommended for both brunch and dinner!!

A co-worker recommended this place. I met some girl friends for brunch. It was easy to find and they have a parking lot! That was nice.

I had some buffalo chicken tenders and were super salty but, all of my friends said their dishes were great. Our waitress was also very friendly and polite, the place was clean and the noise level was good. Prices are also reasonable.

Overall, I do recommend this place, but if you're checking your Sodium intake, make sure you DON'T order the Buffalo Chicken Tenders!

Food was amazing and came out fast and hot! And pretzel rolls with that wonderfully delcious garlic/oil dip. Helllooooo pretzel rolls!

I had the risotto which I asked about being vege but forgot to ask about being veg and it came with cheese. So I would just check in with them before ordering.

Our server Ashley was so amazing and helpful!

This was place was so good Im going back tonight!

Ok, I had brunch here a few weekends ago and based on that, I will give Amrheins another star. Yes, brunch is a bit expensive, however, it is all-you-can eat and features many brunch favorites (although skip the Eggs Benedict, not-so-good) as well as desserts (cheesecake was tasty).

I've been back a couple more times and I did have a scallop dish here that was good. Their risotto (I had a spoonful of my friend's) was a treat as well. All-in-all, not my first stop in Southie, but a good alternative to have in your back pocket if you are looking for a meal.

Skip the chicken buffalo dip which is way too spicy but try the butternut ravioli which is fab!  Thanks to Phantom Gourmet we tried this place and LOVED it!

Quite excited when I walked in.. the place is pretty nice... plus, it has a parking lot... plus, there were a lot of people in there!  We were seated immediately.. but then we discovered.. the service is quite awful.

It took forever for the waitress to get our drink order, bring our bread, take our order, and even ask if we wanted the bill or how everything was.  Terrible.  She was good in asking if I wanted another drink.. I think she just wanted our bill to go up more.  Not a fan of that.

The lobster and mac and cheese is NOT amazing.  It's just mac and cheese... and barely any lobster.  I may have seen 2-3 pieces of lobster meat.  It's not worth the price as it's one of the more pricey things on the menu.

We also got the award winning steak tips.. this was also just okay.  The steak tips were not cooked consistently between pieces.  There were some pieces that were rare.. some that were medium rare.. and some that were medium.  Also, not a lot of choices in sides... mostly starches.  The mixed vegetables was something they got out of a can I am sure.

They were very festively decorated with Christmas stuff... probably wouldn't come again to be honest..

For BAR FOOD, Amrhein's is pretty awesome. I'd heard so much about their Lobster Mac and Cheese and Pumpkin Rissoto, but didn't realize how incredibly close it was to the T! Literally a two minute walk from the Broadway T stop.

The Mac and Cheese is AWESOME. Get the half order, it's more than enough! The cavatelli is the perfect noodle, and they're quite generous with the amount of lobster. Super cheesy inside, and crispy thick crust on top... YUM. SO GOOD!

Buffalo chicken stuffed potato skins. Just do it.

Service was eh. That being said, I'm going back tomorrow for more Lobster Mac and Cheese!

I came here here with a group of 4 for dinner. I wouldn't of known it was 100 years old as the atmosphere inside seemed modern. The place did have a striking dark wood bar that gave off a historic vibe. On a Saturday night it was packed. Free parking and shuttle a plus too!

We sat in a high top booth by the bar area. Those seats were so comfy! The menu was huge. With different entree ideas, we decided to start with the buffalo chicken dip appetizer...This was delicious. I've had it at other places and this one was tops. A big portion for $8 served with plenty of chips.

I went with the lobster mac and cheese. It came in 2 sizes and I opted for the half size at $16. This was still plenty. I thought it was good, not the best I've had. The lobster meat was all claw. It would of been nice to see some chunks of tail. The sauce was rich, I'm not even sure what kind of cheeses were in it, I would say a blend for sure. Even some peas were tossed in. I tried samples of the scallop lobster cake appetizer. The scallop was delicious. The lobster cake was enormous. Even our server commented how they usually are not that big. The vegetable risotto was dry and the pulled pork was too saucy. The large portions gave us a lot of food to go around. The prices were reasonable. There was even a large outdoor patio. Service was slow pretty much the whole meal. It was busy though. We all left full, I would round this up to an OK all together.

I am thrilled that I have finally been introduced to the goodness that is Amrhein's.  Hard to pronounce but easy to fall in love with, Amrhein's is exactly the kind of establishment I could see myself becoming a regular at.  Everything from the salads to the lobster bake is just seeping with deliciousness.  Even more fabulous; the service!  People love working there, and you can tell.  It's no wonder why.

It's pub fare that's anything but standard in quality but still manages to keep the affordable price tag.  You seriously cannot go wrong.

Hint:  get any one of their soups.  Trust me.

I'm a fan after only one visit. Amrhein's lured me in with their 100+ years of history, upscale bar setting with a laid back feel, and deliciously scrumptious food.

This is a good spot to take someone that you've been dating awhile, but not necessarily a great place for a first date. I say that because it can get a bit loud, and the atmosphere isn't wowing in terms of a date spot. However, if you have been dating someone for awhile, you want a laid back atmosphere, but a bit nicer... and you're not concerned with environment to assist in wooing your date... this could be a good choice.

The warm fresh bread and olive oil for dipping was perfect, and the olive oil was so good! I then had the filet... 10 oz of awesomeness with broccoli and mashed potatoes. I swear I wanted to lick the plate clean (except for the mushrooms that were orig atop my steak) but that is just not ladylike, so I refrained. My partner in crime for this excursion ordered one of the specials of the day: pumpkin ravioli with chicken -- also said to be very good.

Another bonus to this spot?! It's so close to my house! Only 2.5 miles away, or a few stops on the T and I'm there. If you're taking the T, this is a short walk, so perfect distance to use public transit.

    Can't wait to go back!

Normally I am turned off by restaurants that offer menus longer than two pages long. Too many options lead to analysis paralysis. However, the long list of goodies this place had to offer were not that overwhelming and all seemed to make sense.

Lobster Mac and Cheese, lobster and crab cake, and chicken risotto served in a pumpkin all immediately popped out of the menu. With 6 offerings of beef/steaks, I was surprised I passed up on this opportunity. Instead I opted for the Jumbo Sea Scallops seared in Brown Sage Butter with Lemon, served on a Bed of Braised Baby Spinach and Roasted garlic Mashed.

This is by far, the best meal I have had in months. everything came together in harmonious synchrony. I loved it!

    Yeah.  Great food.

I have eaten here twice, and I have been blown away both times!

Th first time was for brunch, and oh me oh my they do that well!  There is a HUGE table of buffet foods, ranging from breakfast to lunch and lovely desserts.  Also a couple of meat slabs they cut for you and an omelette bar.  Its all the basics of a buffet, but REALLY well done.

I also had dinner, outside, with one of my best girls.  We both loved our meals. This is THE best lobster mac-n-cheese I have ever imagined!  The waitstaff was also super nice, and really really helpful.

This will be a frequent return!

    Great for brunch:

Nothing cures a hangover quite like a mimosa and some eggs benny. Add in bacon, sausage, homefries, croissants, bagels, steak, beef teriyaki, fresh fruit, an array of dessert... and that isn't even a third of what Amrhein's offers at their weekly brunch buffet. Every Sunday from 10:30-2, at $16 per adult, you can fill up as many plates as you please with as much food as you like; for us Umassers- DC mentality! Just bring a couple envelopes for your high-horse friends who are going to preach about starving kids in India.

    Also great for dinner:

Large menu with traditional, American fare, including what I thought was a delicious Surf 'n Turf (filet and lobster/crabmeat stuffed shrimp). The lengthy list of specials (which I won't recount, since they've probably been replaced by new), were also very palateable. One thing to steer away from? The Buffalo Chicken Dip. I was a bit disheartened to discover that the so-called 'dip' was in fact an order of wings, in a blender, with a side of chips. Moving forward, I think I'll stick with the non-pureed variety and just order the buffalo chicken whole.

    Other pros:

    - Outdoor seating is flowery and lovely, with an awning to shield the sun
    - Good tunes- Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" came on twice. Both times, I took the liberty of explaining the lyrics to my mother.
    - Bread pudding was warm and mapley
    - Big parking lot, which means you have an extra $15 to spend on beer

    Con?:

    - Blonde bartender is a bitch. Our waitress thought so too.

Another S date-- this time a double-date with his friends from work.

The menu doesn't appear especially vegetarian-friendly, but we did well with the roasted vegetable risotto (me) and fetuccini alfredo (he). Long-time readers might note that I generally shun roasted/grilled veggies, but this was truly a superb dish. I do have a soft spot for risotto, and this risotto, as far as risottos go, was excellent. Leftovers were great for lunch the next two days.

The fall risotto, ordered by the other couple, was impressive-- it was gloriously presented in a small cooked pumpkin. A lot of risotto!

The waiter was very scatter-brained and inattentive.

We'll have to go back. I've been craving incredible risotto ever since!

    OK, I ATE CROW!

Well, not literally but it turns out that the very day I wrote that I would never go to Amrhein's again, I did!  You see, it's close to home and we were going to watch the Red Sox game with friends and the bar area is a good size and not too crowded (but still too loud). I know - excuses, excuses.

Anyway, I added a star because ironically enough  we had really good service and the food was actually good. Two standouts were the Mediterranean platter and the pumpkin rissotto.  Don't get me wrong, my previous review still stands but I guess now I have to admit that this place sucks a little bit less.

PS - My friends were afraid they would recognize me as someone who wrote a bad Yelp review but I don't think that happened.

Three time we've been here and all 3 times it has sucked! I know what you're thinking...if it sucked the first time why did you go a 2nd time and Dear God, why even attempt a 3rd time???
I have no excuse except that it's close to home and our visits were so widely spread apart that we forgot how bad it was the previous time - until we remembered.

Service is terrible. Soup arrives after entrees, waitresses are MIA and forget to bring things - that sort of thing. All the time. The bar side is so loud you can't even hear yourself think and the dining room side is full of blue-hairs who remember what Amrheins was like "back in the day".

The menu tries to be creatives and fails miserably. I noticed another reviewer applauded the very dish I am about to slam! Shrimp scampi crostini should NOT come with a cheese sauce, especially when the menu makes no mention of it. Scampi is made of garlic, wine and oil or butter I think...but not cheese. And once the "heirloom" tomato & mozzarella salad my boyfriend ordered came out with about 3 unripe grape tomatoes like you get at the Stop & Shop salad bar. The food is just not good, no matter how good the menu makes it sound.

Maybe if they stuck to bar food...Wait, on second thought, they can't even do that well. The fries that come with the burger are soggy. You know you're in trouble if you're at a place that can't do French Fries right.

I can honestly say I have now been to Amrhein's for the 3rd and final time.

Let me preface this review by saying that this place was an institution.  It has recently been renovated to resemble any post-college bar in Boston, though some remnants of its past remain.  Aside from that, though, its menu is painfully short on creativity and even shorter on its level of dining-quality food.  The upside, however, [for some] is that it's long on your typical flat screens, and even longer on your typical bar food.  I know - I'm sour.

If you're typically taken by too many televisions and trying-to-be-trendy scenes, you're going to absolutely love this place.  I don't get it.  This bar/wanna-be-restaurant could be anywhere street, anywhere town, USA.  What happened to character....  Oh, it's found in the staff here - thank God.  The staff is great and aims to please.  They are seriously good folk who take their jobs seriously.

Very upscale - I took my mother here for lunch and was wowed by the decor, the renovations certainly spiffied the place up.

The food was very good - in large portions, but was not cheap.

Nice bar area, lots of flatscreens all around. All in all, I would probably come here again just for a beer and some bar food, not for a full meal.
