After a strange and disappointing experience at another bar, we found this place to be a decent hangout.
First off, they take cash AND cards. Â I'm over places that are cash only. Â Who carries cash anymore?! Â If your establishment is trying to evade the IRS, find other ways to do it rather than not taking cards.
Second, I wasn't physically touched by random bar patrons as I walked in (happened at the first place we stopped). Â The patrons here are people you might actually want to chat with.
Third, they have a good jukebox, pool tables, and video trivia/card games.
Drinks were reasonably priced and made well. Â Bartender was nice and sober.
I would come back here to relax and have a drink next time I'm in Concord.
This is a great little dive bar located in the back of Countrywood Plaza with three pool tables, a couple of dart boards, and Karaoke if you come on the right day of the week. Â The drinks are pretty cheap for a bar located in Walnut Creek and most of the time the bar has a few people in it but if you wanted to play pool you are usually can. Some Friday and Saturday nights the place gets a little packed but it doesn't normally take too long to get a drink.
Review Source:I've been to Artie's a few times with friends, and it's becoming one of our favorite spots! Â There's a lounge area with tables and nice seats, then there's an area where you can play pool or darts. Â There's also a juke box that has a really wide selection of songs, it's always fun to play DJ for a song our two :) Â The bartenders are always nice and the drinks are great (and for a great price too!). Â Another thing I love about Artie's is that it doesn't get too crowded and so far I haven't come across any creeps or rude people. Â The only downside I can think of at Artie's is that because the crowd is usually kind of sparse, you may have a hard time if you're looking to meet people. Â Also, Artie's is a little old looking and just a little bit dive-y, so if that's not your scene, you may have more fun going to one of the more trendy places in downtown Walnut Creek. Â But if you're like my friends and I, who just want a fun place to enjoy each other's company and have a few drinks, then Artie's is perfect!
Review Source:I love this little dive bar in the Countrywood Plaza. I used to live really close to Masse's (also GREAT!) But now that I'm closer to here I'm my new home-bar. Captain's Chest is actually closest to where I live (at Oak Grove Plaza) but they don't have pool and they are cash only.
Artie's has a few tables ($1/game) cheap drinks - a beer and a mixed drink the other afternoon for $7.75! The bartenders know how to pour (Charlie Brown is the best!), the crowd is friendly. They have darts, a great jukebox...sometimes snacks on the bar but normally just chips for sale. I think karaoke is Tuesday night!
No complaints from me!! :)
Ahhhhhh this is the place to go if you live local and want to grab a quick drink. Nothing special, not even anything interestingly unspecial about the place. I wouldnt even classify it as a dive bar its just a neighborhood bar. The crowd is usually older locals (which is fine) and this offers a nice break from the typical walnut creek crowd. If you want to have a drink and you live near by this is not  a bad option although there are occasions when some knuckle heads come in and act a fool. Also I get the juke box but it can tend to cause a battle among patrons.
Review Source:Man what a bummer to find out the owner is a total A hole in person. Â I've been to this place 30+ times in the last year. Â I'm shooting pool and fire one down the corner pocket, cue ball flies out in the bar area and this f'n yahoo comes at me like I'm out of control. Â Tells me he is the owner and he was a former professional pool player and it is a game of finesse. Â NO FUCKING SHIT YOU PRICK! Â I feel sorry for the bartender (old dude with gray hair) that always turns up the volume on my jukebox picks. Â Loved the place, hate the owner, no mas.
Review Source:DIVE BAR EXTRAORDINAIRE!! Great place to come for drinks and not have to worry about dealing with some D-bags. The drinks are strong and cheap. Pool tables, darts and a juke box with a decent selection of tunes.
Within walking distance for me so I love it even more. One of the best parts about Arties is when I walk or should I say stumble home I pass the donuts shop. Every time I walk by late at night the cooks are in the back cooking up the donuts and it smells soooooo good. No matter how long I stand in front of the window knocking trying to get there attention so they can see how bad I need a donut at 2 Am they never seem to turn around and notice me. I guess I should just lie down in front of the door so I can be the first one they serve.
Artie's is our new local dive bar and, as with everything Walnut Creek, it sure doesn't feel like a dive bar!
Now granted, I've just moved here from Vallejo and, quite frankly, I refused to even consider going to a dive bar in Vallejo. Â Â I do stupid shit sometimes but that's just too fucking stoopid even for me...
Still, I've seen my shares of dives, in San Francisco, San Diego, Berkeley and elsewhere.  Artie's in Walnut Creek is a pretty cool dive bar.  They not only have 1 pool table... They have 3.  They got a couple of video games and those seemed to be in working condition.   They have a jukebox where you can pay to have your song played next.  The only thing dive about this place were the locals... those patrons whom  you know have been here most nights for the last 20 years.... Yup, road hard and hung up wet, as my wife calls 'em.   Still, those people were pretty fucking cool too.
I doubt I'll be here often, being a new parent and all, but it's a pretty cool place to have a couple of drinks and shoot the shit... Â Yay for Artie's!
Me and my bud decided to try this place out. We went in and it had a decent crowd. Got a Heineken for 4.50 damn cheap for WC. Some pretty good look ladies(tall ones too :D ) in there but I think we just happened to get there on a good night. Pretty diverse crowd, kinda like Vinnie's with no live music. I got a dirty look from a over the hill cougar chick for no apparent not sure what I did. Over all not to shabby.
Review Source:I was astounded this spot existed because it's hidden sort of if you don't walk all the way around to the far reaches of the shopping center and also just doesn't seem right spot for a bar. Â But enjoyed a drink here. Â People were pretty nice and lively crowd for a Wednesday at 5:30. Â Seems like a place you'd feel out of place in, but welcoming by the bartenders and regulars. Â Boz Scaggs playing on the jukebox epitomizes the vibe here.
Review Source:Arties is a decent dive bar. Â Nothing more nothing less. Â It's got two dart boards, three pool tables, and a juke box. It can get packed sometimes on the weekends but on most weeknights it's relatively empty. It's my favorite bar in Walnut Creek, but compared to all the places downtown that's not a hard feat to accomplish. A good solid place to come to grab a couple beers with some friends.
Review Source:Have been curious about this place for a long time and used to live across the street but I always assumed that it was one of those small, old man places that had saw-dust on the floor and a shotgun by the register. I couldn't have been more wrong! This place was great!
Stumbled in with some friends one night after a Warrior's game and right away I was shocked at how big the place is. Several pool tables, darts, jukebox, dance floor (I guess?), high top tables and a couple of booths as well as a pretty decent size bar itself! Right away me and my girlfriend had to go to the bathrooms and they were really nice too! Clean and nicely painted (no hooks on the door for purses tho) and while we were in there we meet one of the regulars. She chats us up, really super nice and gives us some tips about the place. Later we see her going around bussing tables from time to time!
It was someone's birthday that night and there was a pretty good crowd but still plenty of room to get around. The birthday group was doing a ton of shots and eventually got really drunk but still everyone was well behaved.
I give this place a solid 5 stars. Old and young will appreciate this bar! Wish I hadn't waited until I moved away to finally check this place out!
Nice, blue-collar place with coin-operated pool tables. It's not too busy and the prices aren't awful (about $13 for a pitcher) by Walnut Creek standards. There's also a juke box, ample seating, and a fairly amazing bar selection.
On tap they had very high-quality beers including Stella Artois, Sierra Nevada, and Blue Moon. The spirits behind the bar were also of pretty high quality and included Johnny Walker Black, Maker's Mark, and some decent gins and vodkas.
Also, the wait staff are pretty attentive and quick to fill orders.
If you're going out cruising for girls, Artie's is a bit of a sausage factory compared to other bars in the area. But if you want to hang out with your friends, play pool, get some drinks, and so forth, then this is a very good option.
Over the years, i've seen people standing by the sidedoor of Artie's smoking. invariable whether they be men or women, they had a "don't mess with me look". cool with me. i had no intention of drinking here.
fast forward to the past weekend when the temperatures soared. i came to artie's to get out of the heat. pretty large place with many pool tables, several flatscreens tuned to different sports. it was an all white,  middle aged crowd. not surprisingly only the female white  bartender noticed me, told me about the hot dogs on the house. nice!
drafts(4.50) were cold and they had bud, bud light, Â sierra nevada, wiedners? full bar. some people drinking patron and playing lotto.
i may return but probably not.
HAHA, i dig how this spot is in the same plaza as CVS & Safeway. And how it's right next door to a Gym. HAHA. For as long as I've lived here, I never knew this place was here. It's very neighborhoodly, with lotto tickets, coors light on tap, scratchers & and peanuts for a snack. Cant go wrong with dive bars and old guys who drink heavily. It's not that bad.
Review Source:The place was exactly what we were looking for; cheap beer, a good jukebox, and friendly atmosphere. Though the jukebox is a bit expensive ($1 a song) and it didn't play a couple songs. That was easily fixed because the bartender refunded our $2 and we plugged it right back into the machine. The pool tables cost $1 a game and there are only 3. But it didn't seem to be an issue because there weren't that many people in the place. Some folks were over in the corner playing a dice game. Later that evening there was Karaoke. Overall, everyone was really friendly and we had a great time. It is an 'older' crowd meaning if you're over 30 you'll feel right at home and there were a few 'youngsters' ;-) there too. We will definitely be going back.
Review Source:The staff is cool.. I think they make the best midori sour's =) It never tends to get crowded. The usually group that goes there is caucasian males over the  age of 30.. This is a place that my co-workers tend to choose for a chill night of pool and drinks... unfortunate for me since the place has like a 1 female per 15 guys. The jukebox ate $1.50 worth of my money though! lol What caught me off guard was that the bathrooms were actually pretty clean and nice! Kudos
Review Source:Artie's is a cool dive bar to check out with a few friends or by yourself. Â The drinks are cheap and decent. Â There's nothing fancy here - a bar, a lounge seating area, three pool tables, a couple dart boards, and a jukebox. Â This place is for seasoned, grizzled bar patrons! Â If you're over 25 or at least don't act like a teeny-bopper, the bartenders are the coolest people ever. Â If you're frat boy or douche, don't expect to get much respect here - and you may even get kicked out if Charlie's in a bad mood. Â If you are a frat boy, go to Crogan's. Â And if you're a douche, go to Spin.
The cons: the ambiance is a little boring and there's really no personality except for the people in it. Â And the location kinda sucks - it's in a strip mall with nothing else around it open at night. Â But if you just want a no-frills place to drink and play pool, check it out!
Artie's is an excellent dive bar. It has pool tables and doesn't get too crowded. There is a douche factor, but the drinks are strong enough that it doesn't matter. Charlie the bartender pours a nice drink. This place is really close to The Captain's Chest, which is my favorite place ever, so I only go to Artie's if forced.
One time I met a male model there and had a date with him (the date was not at Artie's)! He was very cute and very stupid. I had another date the same day and I ended up dating the other guy for a few months, but who knows what could have happened! Oh wait. I do. Nothing.
Don't go to Artie's expecting to meet a male model. There usually are not any cute guys there.
Good place to go for cheap bar pool, even though most of the cue sticks are a bit beat-up and could stand to be replaced. Don the bartender has worked there for ages, really nice guy. Crowd can vary on weekend evenings, usually nice and chill but sometimes Concord cranksters and punk-ass loudmouths tend to roll in for a bit.... Overall, it's a decent little dive with pool and darts, good spot to put a few back with some buddies.
Review Source:It is what it is... Stephen and I went there to play pool today for date day. Â They have bluemoon on tap and specialty martinis, which we didn't try. Â they have pool tables and dartboards, and one of those snazzy new jukeboxes that you can download songs onto... Â the selection was pretty sparse. Â when we put another one bites the dust by Queen on, the bartender put the speakers at the bar on, but when Justin Timberlake came on, he turned the football game back on... what's up with that?
Review Source:Artie's is chill place to hang out in WC. The washington apples are very yummy and they have Journey's greatest hits on the jukebox, what more can you ask for. Â Fun for people watching and there's the local barfly that is always a good time for any of you Gents out there looking to get lucky hahahaha
Review Source:When it comes to bars, there is nothing I loathe more than a place where you have to wait in line, cant find a place to sit, and can't get a drink cause the bartenders don't seem to care. Artie's none of the above. While the atmosphere will lead most people to call this place a dive, I get great service and conversation from the bar tenders and its always a great place to go with a group. I always seem to run into old friends at this place. You really cant beat it. I even joined up on their softball team, although most times we were too drunk to stand a chance out on the field.
Review Source:I can't say I've experienced much nightlife in tha Dub Crizzle but I can safely say this is a gem of a place to go to when you don't give a fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Bonus: the bartender was AMAZED that I had heard of Massive Attack which he himself had apparently discovered on the Interwebs.
One can observe the following species in their natural habitats:
-- *douchebagious minitruckeous caucasious*: who sport low baseball hats, silver stunna chains, giiiiant white tee shirts and constantly go outside to smoke blunts.
-- *fakeous louisvuittonbagoeous sluttorious*: the female counterpart to douchebagious minitruckeous, who get did up in heels, tube tops and HELLA perfume to go to a sports bar in Walnut Creek. When in heat, the female sports blonde stripes in her dark hair. Â These animals travel only in large groups of other fakeousi making it impossible to distinguish one from another.
--*oldmanicus perverticus*: will also make an appearance, huddling at the bar, solo, clutching a bottle of High Life and appearing enraged when the jukebox changes to another grade 'D' hip-hop song.
I actually don't even know if this was the bar I went to. If not, my apologies, but I'm pretty sure it's close enough. Cheers!!!
This bar is pretty cool. Â Of course it depends on what you are looking for. Â This is a more laid back, local, beer and pretzels type of place, similar to farringtons with maybe a little less traffic. Â The inside is nice and roomy, there are pool tables and free chips/pretzels. Â also TV's and booths. Â I liked it. Â Everyone was friendly.
Review Source:This bar was desolate not too long ago, about 5 years back it was the spot to go after the downtown Walnut Creek bars closed. Â It was your typical empty dive bar hence the late last call to bring in that last minute business. Â Now with the high number of bar hoppers still frequenting the bar scene well into their late 20's, Arties has attracted it's own crowd on weekends. Â The days of empty dive bars is no longer anywhere, including good ol' Arties. Â The place has a great juke box, from country to rock n' roll.......you will enjoy the selection. Â It has 3 typical bar pool tables that take 4 quarters, and friendly bartenders. Â Don is the guy who's been working there forever. Â The place is definitely a favorite local spot for those with fond memories growing up, it was a scene that was different...... a time not so long ago where you could get a drink relatively quickly and enjoy conversation with friends without waiting in lines, or being crowded in a corner, or muted by overly loud music. Â This place is still a personal favorite, however not quite the dive you'd think. Â It's starting to get overcrowded especially with the same amount of staff. Â Good spot if you want to keep it local to the Concord area and not looking to get dressed up.
