One of my favorite neighborhood bars. Great food, super chill staff, trivia on Wednesday nights, $3 happy meals (PBR & a shot) after midnight, i don't have to drive, their stamps now wash off after 1st try, everybody goes home a winner.

My wife and I are from Dallas, TX; we're here in Denver on vacation. I've heard GREAT things about Atomic Cowboy/Fat Sully's/Denver Biscuit Company. Tonight we checked out Atomic Cowboy, and although we didn't order any food (which I'm sure is a HUGE part of the goodness of this place) we were disappointed. We grabbed a couple of beers, but didn't stay long. The place feels kind of like a typical sports bar, which is ok but just not my type of place. They've got some decent local craft beer on tap, but the overall feel of the place seemed too sporty and aiming to be trendy. I imagine my review would kick up a little bit if I tried one of the famous biscuits, but just from the bar experience we were not all too impressed...especially after just having chilled for a bit over at Black Shirt Brewing. So good!

I don't have cable. Mostly because the only thing I would bother watching live is sports and frankly there is no better place to watch sports than Atomic Cowboy.

Reasons why Atomic Cowboy is better than my apartment (or yours) for watching the big game:

    - Pizzas so large they would never fit on my tiny dining room table anyway. Thin, greasy, deliciousness. This isn't takeout. and it's not Digornio. It's a rare breed of pizza awesomeness that soaks up a hangover and doesn't break your budget.

    - TVs everywhere. I turn my head this way and that -- everywhere I look I can catch the action. Not the case when I'm at home on my couch.

    - Always a crowd. I don't know about you but I can fit 5 people comfortably in my apartment. Atomic Cowboy seats many, many more than that and the people who frequent this joint love it as much as I do. Immediate friends. And your apartment stays clean.

    - Great, friendly service and an immaculate record of never letting my beer go dry. And late night happy hours always strip me of any guilt I have over "having another".

    'Nuff said.

Place is as advertised for pizza at least.  No biscuits today, so couldn't try them; but fortunately I came for pizza.  After asking and learning their gluten free is made special for them, I ordered a gluten free pizza and it was the best gluten free crust I've had so far.  Very tasty, good sauce, and great atmosphere.  Only complaints was a mess up on my order, but crap happens; and how long it took.  It was not busy, but still took about 20 minutes.  Still great food, friendly staff, and nice atmosphere.

Just had a run in with the mother funkers at atom's. just got back from over sea's and have an expired colorado lic so when i showed them my Aus id the bouncer wouldn't take it. 3 years out and no respect for returned vet.

Any ways the pizza i had was damn good, bit expensive for a single slice, the outside on fax is nicetitude.

conclusion, before you come back to the united states, purchase a renewal colorado id at least 30 days in advance online, it was mad easy to do it. i just did it the week I got back which sux.

I have walked past the Atomic Cowboy quite a few times on my "bar nights" so to speak, but I had never gone inside until the other night. The name always threw me off for some reason. I hail from a place where any bar named anything cowboy, is actually filled with cowboys. Not there is anything wrong with cowboys, just not my crowd. The crowd inside was fairly large and the atmosphere and people were great. I was disappointed that they didn't have a jukebox, but my mind was quickly changed by the surprisingly good music selection. The drinks were fairly priced and the service was really great. I was surprised that me and my friends were able to grab a spot at the pool table in no time at all considering that there is only one. Overall, it was a great night at the Atomic Cowboy and I will definitely be back.

It's right next to the Bluebird, so it's a great place to grab some food and drinks before a show. The place is styled with pop art over red brick walls, bringing down the "hip levels" to a manageable level. So whether it's a first date or watching a game with buddies, it's a solid choice.

The pizza was, well...fine. Certainly tasty but, well, just pizza. We ordered a thin slice that was cut into massive slices. One piece each was sufficient for our group of six.

I appreciated the waitstaff. There were some mix-ups, which was dealt with humorously and in good spirit. Friendly, funny.

Overall, this is a solid choice for an extroverted evening. If you're looking for a small place to grab a bite and drink to talk over, go elsewhere. But it's a great location for big groups because the Atomic Cowboy has at least something (food, drink, aesthetic, or otherwise) that everyone will enjoy.

Not to mention a great special on boilermakers ($5 for a PBR and a shot of whiskey).

I'm revising a former review that I made in March of 2012!

The staff at Atomic has been more attentive than ever.  It seems as though they've filtered out the few bad seeds that were spoiling the bunch - and now service is friendly, fast, and pretty darn awesome.  Since moving to the neighborhood I've been frequenting there more often, and I've had many great experiences there that have outweighed my past poor review!  They have definitely made things great again!

OH and if you haven't tried the breakfast with the Denver Biscuit Co - it's awesome, and probably the best hangover food I've had in a long time.  I had the vegetarian biscuits & gravy (made with shitake mushrooms - SO GOOD), and added an egg on top.  I think my headache was gone in 5 minutes after eating it.  YUM.

Nice work, Atomic.  You're rockin' it!

Bars usually busy and pretty trendy. Quiz on Wednesday, happy hour 3 till 7. Pizza is pretty good. Very thin and choose your own topping. A little bit under b cooked for me though, not enough topping options and size options. Its kinda pricey if you drink outside happy hour and eating pizza. 2 beers and 2 slices of pizza over $30 with tip. Baring in mind one slice is not enough and the next size serves a soccer team they need to rethink that. During happy hour you only save $1 on beer. Obviously makes enough money as its always packed.

This place has everything I love: good beer at decent prices, especially during happy hour, great pizza you can order by the slice or by the most massive size pizza you will ever see (its a shame they don't have a box big enough to carry out) and a nice atmosphere complete with the perfect playlist. Just wish it were a little less packed on the weekends.

On the way to the Bluebird.
    "I'm hungry," I hinted.
"Let's go to the Atomic Cowboy," she said without hesitation.
    "Okay. I've never been there."
"You'll love it." she said with a smile.
    And she was right.
    Quick service.
Pizza by the slice exactly as I wanted it.
And good tasting pizza at that.
    And cold beer.
    And maybe one more.
    And not much money.
Hmm. I could start liking this place.
Now, I just need another reason to go this far on Colfax.

I've been to this bar a handful of times and it's always been a good experience.

My GF and I went Sunday night for a little procrastination before getting ready for the week. ^__^  They serve Fat Sully's pizza, which is technically it's own establishment, but they have a service window for AC in the corner by the door.  We both ordered a slice and they hit the spot.  Fat Sully's makes New York style pizza.  AC has Chalula, and I had the waiter bring me some (yes!).  We played a few of the board games they have behind the front counter, and that added nicely to the procrastination.  It was midly busy, but I was able to have them put on the Avs game on one of the TVs.  Even when they switched to the Oscars (whatever), they switched my game to another TV so I could continue to watch (thanks).  The waiter was a guy with dreads and he was very attentive and chill; every person we've had wait on us there has been very nice and helpful.

I've walked past when there was trivia, and that seems like too much noise for me, but most of the time this place is about 1/2 to 2/3 full and really relaxed.  A good place to hang out on Colfax!

I love this place, the manager, bartenders, everyone so great. We went on New Years day for a drink and lunch. Food is decent. The pizza is good and one large piece is about all I can eat. Sometimes I split it  with my boyfriend because we both watch what we eat so closely, that this is our splurge for the week. A cute round bar and prices are very reasonable. We have invited friends over there and they also just loved it. The biscuits look great, we did not splurge on those, but we wanted to,ha! During a game or on a Friday or Saturday night parking can be a challenge, so if were are going out to have a drink or two, we sometimes take a cab. It is just one lay back place to unwind.

I have always had a good time here. This is one of our go to places after Kifac kickball. The discount from our card is exactly the same as the special that everyone gets, but who cares, a giant slice a pizza and a beer for $4 is a great price.

I have probably come here once a week since I first moved to Denver, never once had a bad experience. My favorite bar in Denver hands down. Best service, cheap drinks, awesome atmosphere. My go-to for a good micro brew and tasty pizza slice. It has a dive bar feel without the gross bathroom and smokey dim lighting. The music is usually on point. At night it's usually upbeat dancey cuts like M83 and Killers. You can also order pizza (by the pie or slice) at any time, and it's hella good, too.

Only bad thing is that it's sorta hard to find if you've never been there before. I drove past it a million times before I realized Fat Sully Pizza and/or Denver Biscuit Co. are in fact Atomic Cowboy bar, too.

I had won a gift certificate to the Atomic Cowboy and the fiance and I decided to have a date night.  We both had a great time.  The space is big and open with high ceilings and exposed brick.  We sat at the bar and the bartenders were friendly and attentive and made some great affordable drinks.  The noise level was not over powering and we were able to carry on a conversion even with the place being fairly packed.  I definitely dig the fact that the bar houses Fat Sully's (yum) and the Denver Biscuit company which I had yet to try.  We will definitely be back!

This may be the first time I've stepped foot into a bar where there are actually 3 completely different businesses operating in the same place.

So, to review it, you'd have to split it into 3 separate reviews. Here we go:

Denver Buscuit Company? Boss. 5/5 stars.
Sully's Pizza? Slow, but cheap and tasty. 3.5/5.
The bar? Extra friendly and cheap during their special nights. 4/5 stars.

But if you're looking for the perfect place to start or unwind the night, there are fewer places where you can go wrong. The music isn't bad and the crowd is usually perfect for people-watching on any night.

This place is great.  I wrote a review previously for Fat Sully's, so I'll be short and sweet here.

Denver Biscuit Co. is Fat Sully's is Atomic Cowboy.  I think it's so cool that the same place wears many hats throughout the day.  The bartenders are attentive, the pours were generous, and the trivia nights are fun.  Perfect place to bring a big group as they have plenty of booths and tables fit for 6 of more.

I stopped in for happy hour before the March Secret Supper at the other end of the block. Happy hour is from 4pm to 7pm.  They had $3 slices and 1/2 price beer, wine and well drinks.  My gin and tonic was okay, and was of a decent size.  My cider was bit warm for my taste, but was filled to the brim.  The bartender was friendly and attentive.  The decor was fun.  The barstools were unusually comfortable.

One complaint, the ID gauntlet I had to run to get inside seemed excessive for 6pm on a Tuesday.  They scanned my driver's license (something that always feels like and invasion of privacy to me).  They then stamped my hand with a 2 inch by 2 inch block lettered "AC" in black ink.  Removing this stamp the next morning took enough scrubbing that my hand felt a bit raw.  I understand that they are paranoid about the lovely liquor enforcement officers setting them up for a massive fine . . . something that always seems more punitive and revenue gathering than actual public safety in my mind.  However, when you are over 40, and look it, this all seems like a waste of time and bunch of B.S.

This place is awesome! I love that their is plenty of space to hold a big group and that you have the choice of ordering Pizza from Fat Sullys (this pizza really really puts Anthony's to the test!) or food from Denver Biscuit company...either way you can't go wrong. A HUGE slice of pizza for under $5 with you pick toppings...AMAZING!

The loss of star is due to slow service...but I will definitely be back for some Fat Sully's no matter what!

Went to AC before a show at the Bluebird cause the opening bands sucked and I needed to kill some time. My lucky day.....$1.50 "mystery can of beer special" on Tuesday nights. I got a Rolling Rock on the first go and Miller Light on the second try; way cheaper than drinking at the Bluebird.

I got carded at the door, which is weird, cause I'm 40+. Friendly staff. Some dreadlocked dude was promoting Camel cigarettes but refused to disclose who he was working for (I had to ask the doorman.)

I learned this place actually houses three different businesses, but make no mistake, its a bar.

Met up with an old high school friend who happened to be in the area and we had such a good time here last night.

    Pros: Great tracks all night
Pizza was tasty (I got a slice w/ spinach, tomatoes and garlic -- slice was huge. My friend got the personal white pizza w/ italian sausage.)
             Bartender was really attentive.
             Fun atmosphere.

Cons: Can't think of any; glad I found a decent bar in Denver.

So went to the Atomic Cowboy when I was dogsitting for a friend who lives in the apartments on Fillmore and 17th.  I will be back for sure.

Super clean and chill bar, good atmosphere, nice tunes.  Nice draft selection, I had a Mirror Pond.  Its nice you can order good pizza from the bar.  4-7 is 2 for 1 drafts.  Nuf said.

This is our go-to place for brunch after a 5K in City Park.

The biscuit sandwiches are fantastic. I especially love the one covered in country gravy, yum! Pair that with a cold brew and that's what I call breakfast ;)

It's great to be able to walk here from City Park, since parking on Colfax can be a bit challenging.

This place just has a great, laid back atmosphere. We never get any funny looks for showing up in our running/walking gear. And, there are no judgements about us putting the calories burned right back on in the form of biscuits, bacon & beer :)

I love coming here.  It's one of my favorite spots in Denver.  Great beer lists, great staff, great people.  It's right next door to the Bluebird, where I go quite often.  Last night we came for dinner and beers before a show, and the service we received warranted an updated review.

When I checked in on my phone I saw a deal that offered me $10 off.  I showed this to our server, Natalie, who was unfamiliar with it and went to get the manager.  He took a look at it and didn't know anything about it.  He was friendly and said he would certainly honor it, but that it shouldn't exist.  No worries, we said, we thanked him and returned to our beers.

As it turned out, the deal was involving something with American Express, putting the tab on an Am Ex card would get me a $10 credit on said card.  But the manager (I really wish I could remember his name, because he deserves to be mentioned) still gave us the $10 off, and even offered to buy a shot for he and I!  What a great experience!

On top of that, we were lucky enough to have Natalie take care of us.  I love it when she is working.  She is always friendly, funny, and attentive, and truly makes this place great!

If anyone out there doesn't think that you can get stellar customer service in a bar, get your booties down to the Atomic Cowboy and bring your appetite, because you'll be eating your words!  (Along with some of the best pizza and/or biscuits in the city.)

    Cheers to you guys!

PS  - All props aside, I still plan on stealing that awesome picture on the wall.

Stopped in here on Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised, especially since it was my first night out in Denver. Love the exposed brick and the fact that they played the Strokes twice when I was there plus how can you go wrong with $1 PBRs?

I looked to my left and saw multiple men in plaid shirts and beards. I looked to my right and saw the same. Hmmm, thats weird.  Right then I knew I wasn't in Charlotte anymore and I loved that. I'm used to see groups of men wearing pastels, khakis and sporting the John Edwards haircut. Charlotte, this is not, now if I could just get my butt here for trivia night!

I have mixed thoughts about this bar.  Sometimes I go and have an awesome time, and other times I feel suffocated by douchness!  I think the specials are always good, the problem lies with when the bar gets so full you can't even get up to the bar.  Don't get me wrong I really do like the space, also the pizza is a definite plus and the games don't hurt at all.

I guess the solution is go at off times or right before it gets busy and you'll have a blast otherwise prepare yourself for a suffocating mix of douches and hipsters.

Doorman ripped my ID from my hand and swiped it into some machine to collect personal information.  I'm supposed to give money to someone who steals from me?

EDIT: I'll paraphrase Ashleigh's/owner's comment below:  "We will continue to treat our customers like criminals (it is illegal to misrepresent your age in CO) and obtain their personal information through our ID scanners.  We could abuse your personal information, so please trust us that we won't"

Games Games Games. I love to play games.

Come here on a weeknight and pick from Apples to Apples, Taboo, Pictionary, Scrabble, Connect 4, Life, Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, the list goes on. Now I'm sure you're thinking that Candy Land or Chutes and Ladders could not possibly be fun. But as a three year old it was hard to count and move spaces and after about 6 beers you will reach that level of competency once again.

My favorite games are Apples to Apples and Taboo, which inevitably lead to shouting, and nobody seems to mind. The bar is not loud, but not quiet - there's always a dull roar and the jukebox streams a great variety. No top 40 here, and not just oldies either, but indie rock and hip hop and more.

The staff here is great, you may get a chance to meet the owner and you'll likely run into Natalie. When I'm at the Atomic Cowboy I never seem to notice how long its been since I ordered a drink because I'm having a great time. There's no rushed feeling about this place, but I never feel ignored either. I love the sweet tea vodka drinks and the pizza and the beer and the ambiance and oh, I just love everything about this place. It's my bar of choice on Colfax.

I've waited a long time to review this place because I couldn't quite make up my mind on 3 or 4 stars. I never disliked it but just couldn't decide if I loved it. After some deep thought, I give 4 stars because:
    -board games
-you can find the lovely ladies of Babooshka here after hours
    -garlic fries
    -great servers and bartenders
-there is now a pizza joint attached
    -mellow, unpretentious, fun

This bar is super cool! When you get in, you'll feel the warmth and a good depth of it at first, high bar chairs, smell of good food and great cheese pizza when you get in.

Had the opportunity of going there for a Yelp Elite event, and it was super cool, the waiting staff super fast even on a busy crowd like we had last Thursday.

Me Likey this bar!  Why, you ask?  Well, they've got lots of activities to keep my attention, like pinball, board games, and pool.  I was flooded with memories of my youth while I sat at the bar playing an intense game of Guess Who?

They also have cheap, good beer, and a great selection.  My friend and I lucked out by getting a seat at the bar on a Friday night.  The bartenders gave us quick and efficient service.  The pizza was delish...a perfect accompaniment to my beer(s).  This bar is just so cool... without needing to try too hard either!

The menu is much better than a basic bar menu, and some of the dishes are named after the owner's Beagles!  How can you not love a place that does that?!   I absolutely love the garlic fries and the mini cheeseburgers.

The thing that brought me in the first time was the art work.  The original, large, unusual paintings are fantastic!  The deco boomerang light fixture is beautiful.  Even the funky leather belts on the bathroom doors are great!  I love everything about the decor of this place - very well done.

What has me coming back, even though sometimes it can be a bit too packed full of loud chads, is the friendly staff, the board games, and the old school hockey game.  It's so fun to sit and goof off with a table of friends here, while drinking some good beer!

I was living like 2 blocks from the Atomic Cowboy when it opened years ago.  During that first week, I went 7 days in a row and was hooked.

Another list of reasons why I like someplace:
1 - They staff is pretty much radical, they are super nice to me and everyone I know, and they know how to make customers happy.
2 -The food is suprisingly tasty, with a barbeque sauce that makes your mouth water.
3 - They have lots of TVs for sporting events.  Just last night I was there watching both the Nuggets game and the Rockies game at the same time as playing Trivia, which brings me to the next point...
4 - They have a great trivia night with cool prizes and stuff.
5 - The location is freaking sweet.  Near the bluebird, goosetown, mezcal, and the shoppe.  What more could you ask for?
6 - They have a great selection of board games you can play with your friends at the bar.

    Get off me.

    And go there.

Great greasy bar food.  The garlic fries are awesome and they've got this great spicy barbecue sauce.  It's got a nice open layout and the boothes are great.  Take a date there and play Connect Four or Candyland (no reading required) or Guess Who.  A girl's Guess Who skills tell you a lot about her.  Also, Hungus trivia on Wednesday nights is awesome.  I prefer it to the other trivias around town.  Hungus puts a Powerpoint presentation together and the questions come up on the 60 inch plasma tv.  Also they have $1.00 PBR during trivia.  Far superior to the reading off a bunch of questions and writing down the answers on a sheet while drinking your $2.50 PBR.  And Natalie is the best waitress in town.

    Update (4/24/08):
As far as bars go, the Atomic Cowboy is and excellent place to drop a deuce.  Remember that next time you're at a show at the Bluebird.
    That is all.

I usually go to the atomic for trivia on Wednesdays. They have really great drink specials then ($1 High Lifes) and during their happy hour. And drinks aren't all they offer - the food is pretty good, too. Try the southwest eggrolls or garlic fries if you feel snacky.

Another thing I really like about the Atomic is all the games they have - pool, pinball, old school board games including connect 4 and trouble, even my favorite video game Mrs. Pac-man (the fast version if that sort of thing matters to you.)

And the decor is really cool with all sorts of fantastic lighting and exposed brick walls. If you're into people watching the entire front is windows that look out onto Colfax and there is a patio that gets pretty full during warm weather.
