5 stars for the local beer selection
3 stars for the limited menu (never find anything on there that I really want.)

Ok, the mussels and fries are pretty good when I'm tipsy.

    Knowledgeable bartenders.

Wish the covers weren't so expensive.

A group of us came here for a "pseudo-retirement" party (a friend of ours was leaving the world of finance forever - yay!), and it was really fun, actually. We all sat -- by all, I mean all 20 of us, somehow -- in the area right by the front window, at the high top table, and ordered a bunch of drinks and appetizers. It was just the right ambiance, with the windows open, right by the bar, right before the live music came on... very casual and comfortable.

And the food... YUM. The calamari was definitely one of my faves that night, as well as the buffalo chicken wings. To top it off, the bourbon ale they had on tap was awesome. The perfect mix of bar food. We also ordered a bunch of nachos and that mussels with fries dish. Though I only had the fries, many other people around the table adored and scarfed down every. single. mussel. in all of the THREE plates of that dish that we ordered.

They start the live music around 10, and there's a $7 cover if you want to stay after dinner for that portion, and though I left before the music began, those of the group that stayed said the music was good and the atmosphere was fun. I'd believe it!

I come here all the time (live down the street). This place is fantastic - the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about drinks, the food is great and there is often music. Last time we went there to listen to some tunes we even got cake! They even have an outdoor area and brunch. I am so lucky to have this as my neighborhood bar. Does not disappoint!

If you are going to meet up with a friend who lives around Inman/East Cambridge for a drink, this is a good place for that. It is not a good place for dinner. The out side seating is 5 moldy, communal, picnic tables and the wait for dinner out there is long to say the least. We waited 45 minutes. The menu was different in person than online, and the loud drunk people sharing the table with us ordered something off the menu that was sold out for the night. It was barely 8. Drinks are over priced too. And if you prefer inside dining, there is no air conditioning.

Had such a great time here and the staff was so friendly!  Really good live music and amazing ginger beer drinks.  Would definitely go back!

Very cool bar with a great dark wood interior.  Awesome natural light pours in during the day and its perfectly dimly lit at night.  Easily the best bar this far down this direction on Cambridge Ave.  The beer selection is phenomenal and ever changing, and the food is WAAAY better than it has to be.  I particularly enjoyed the mac' n cheese which is, somewhat surprisingly well served by the addition of broccoli, and the hearty braised beef with spaetzle.  Service is friendly and good.  I found the much discussed live music to be a hit or miss affair but was on one occasion lucky enough to walk in while the surviving members of Morphine were playing so that was very cool.  I should not that there always seemed to be an inordinate amount of males to females in the bar but that somewhat disturbingly more often than not seemed the case at most Cambridge bars.  Regardless, all in all its a very cool bar that I would be remiss not to recommend.

Atwoods, Atwoods, Atwoods... truly one of the best pubs in the Inman/EC area. In fact, I would be hard pressed to find a pub in the Boston area with a better beer selection, more delicious food, and better ambiance. The charcuterie (yes, a pub with charcuterie!) is always amazing, the bar standards (burgers, wings, sandwiches) are anything but, and the impressive tap selection makes Atwoods one of my favorite go-to bars.  I highly recommend the Mac & Cheese....just out of this world.  Chase it down with one of their many rotating beers (they have SOUR beers!) and you have yourself quite a night my friend.  The live bands are always a treat as well, although sometimes I prefer those quieter times when you can have nice conversation with "Revolver" spinning in the background.  Atwoods has renewed my faith in the Boston-Cambridge "pub" scene, and hopefully will do the same for you.

Atwood's is delightful.  The food is top-notch, the beer list is robust, and the ambiance is wonderful.  I recommend this place the most of all the various bars and pubs in Cambridge.

One star for their beer and food but just one because their owner is a CREEP!

They have a great priced beerlist (a lot of it local!) as long as John Holmes's you-know-what and a very decent bar/pub food menu.  The grilled cheese and tomato soup app was a terrific surprise and the bacon blue cheeseburger was mouthwatering with the best sweet potato fries I've had in a long time.  My wife loved the salad she ordered (I can't remember what it was but the bite I had was tasty).  Can't wait to go back.

Bluegrass Mondays make my heart happy.

The band sets up smack dab in the middle of the bar, but the noise level is just right. You can sip a beer and chat with friends all the while listening to some great tunes.

The beer selection is extensive and their food is great. My favorites: sweet potato fries, nachos, BLT, and the arugula salad.

Can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can get back on their beautiful back patio!

Atwood's is a very dark pub filled with excellent people. I've been here a few times and really enjoyed the banter with the waitresses and the bartender. I've never eaten here, but their beer selection is good, and the atmosphere makes it. A friend of mine has had the mac & cheese and she loved it. I'll go back again, but not when live bands are playing. The noise ruins what I like about Atwood's, the excellent atmos for conversation.

So in fairness, I only had two things off of the menu, but 'underwhelming' is an understatement.  In fact, the only reason I give it two stars is because the cocktails were mixed well and they did a decent cheesy grits.

BUT, the potato leek soup was more like a very bland potato soup with a texture like baby's first farina.  If there were leaks in there, they were stick blended to kingdom come and imparted no flavor to the dish.

I'm a pork guy, so I automatically zeroed in on the crispy pork belly.  Crispy they have down.  Belly they do not.  Anytime you need a steak knife to cut pork belly into pieces that you can actually fit into your mouth, something's terribly wrong; and I have a big mouth!  It wasn't because of the "crispy," either.  The belly was stringy and tougher than a two-dollar steak.  Add to that the fact that the only flavor I tasted was salt, and you've got failure.  Finally, the brussels were undertrimmed, undercooked, and underseasoned.  I guess under is the theme.

Based on the other reviews, they must not have had their fastball tonight.  At least the prices are more than accessible.  Too bad there wasn't a TV in sight to distract me from a less-than-pedestrian meal.

This is a pub? Wouldn't believe you were sitting in a Boston local watering hole unless someone told you. Why?  Well, it defies all generally accepted laws and principles of a Boston-area pub.

    1. There are no in-your-face Irish references
    2. The walls don't look dark and shady, like the place needs a good scrub-down
    3. Mainstream Boston beers (you know which I am talking about) are delightfully absent from the list
    4. The beer selection is eclectic, all-encompassing, and is sure to delight even the snobbiest beer drinkers

However, the single most deceptive factor that misleads you into thinking you're not at a local watering hole: the food.

I think even bad pub food is good pub food (those of you who are familiar with Howard Anderson know exactly where I'm going with that comment), so usually my bar is pretty when I walk into a bar.  When I expect very little and am delivered very little, I am still pretty ecstatic to be sitting there with my date, packing on the calories.

However, my fair reader, Atwood's is a horse of a different color.  You can go ahead and set your bar pretty high here - and not like pub-fare high, but rather like cozy-comfort-food-restaurant high, because at Atwood's, that is exactly what they're serving up.

Being a burger girl myself, it's generally the old-standby anywhere there's beer.  While this burger didn't blow me away, I will say that they cooked it exactly medium-rare like we asked, which is something I've never before seen at a pub.  Otherwise, the burger was unremarkable but the FRIES here are fantastic.  They cut/blanch/fry them in-house, and they're perfect.  Go rogue and ask for a side of garlic aioli with your fries instead of ketchup - theirs is great.

Because it was a cold night, I was craving indulgent warmth, so when I spotted the braised beef dish, i knew we had to have it, ignoring my inner food skeptic that was shouting at me to never order a "main dish" item at a pub. "Stick to the sandwiches," it said. "You're going to regret this," it said.  It was full of shit, because I ordered the braised beef and it was fantastic.  Some of the best I've had.  It came with a side of spaetzel, which normally gets me all hot and bothered on its own by just existing, but this spaetzel was finished in a pan, as some of its sides were brown and crispy.  It tasted like it was tossed in some sort of brown butter or other light-yet-rich coating.  Dear goodness.

Open faced bratwurst sandwich was served on pumpernickel bread and coated with melted cheese.  If you order this, try and get a side salad (huge portion, and Atwood's classes up their house salad with arugula, gorgonzola, pears, etc.), because it's a stick-to-your-ribs sort of dish.  It comes with a side of pickled purple cabbage slaw that was sharp and vinegary, but in the best possible way.

Best dish of the night was certainly the tender, fall-apart braised beef with spaetzel, but all the dishes were pretty fantastic considering the type of venue.

By 8pm on Saturday, it was busy (but not too loud you had to shout), warm, and crammed with people enjoying some food and a pint. If I lived in the neighborhood, this would be my bar, and you locals should be so lucky to have a place like Atwood's!

when in doubt, inman square shines in the way of food. this is no exception! intimate pub atmosphere, a small stage sometimes with live music, cool crowd, cute waitresses (yes, i said it). my friend and i had the mediterranean platter (excellent homemade pita, baba ganoush, hummus, marinated mushrooms) and bouillabaisse (perfect, with basmati rice) and pork belly with cheesy grits and brussels sprouts. all excellent execution and well beyond expectations for general pub food -- more like perfect new american cuisine. well worth the price point of around ~$10 an appetizer and ~$10-15 for an entree. quite a nice selection of craft beers as well. the kentucky bourbon ale, which is always on tap, is amazing.

    i'll be back!

Walked in on the way to Inman and decided to check it out, as it has a great reputation for its beers selection and the live music. Well, I am impressed. The appetizers were great (crabcakes and mediterranean plate) and the beer I tried was also nice and unusual. The place is small, so I am not sure how crowded it gets when there's music playing (didn't stay that long), but I will most certainly check it out again, and order an entree. Must also be great in the summer to sit outside on their patio. But that's not for another 5 months from now...

What a fabulous place this is. I tried the mac & cheese w/bacon- delicious. Tons of local beers. Very chill crowd, good music, room to dance.

Between the atmosphere, crowd, and music it's a place that just feels good for the soul.

GREAT beer selection!  I love sour beers and believe me- they are not easy to find.  Atwoods has a nice selection of Belgium beers as well as you usual lovely suspects.  Also- a great spot for live music- has a real roots feel to em.  The decor wins me over every time.  Ascetically strikes me with comfort every visit.  Good folks, food and drink.

To start, we orders nachos. Excellent. We asked for extra sour cream and pico, but our waiter didn't charge us an additional fortune.

I got the pork chops. My man got the bratwurst. Both were sooo good!

On other occasions I've simply grabbed drinks here. They get some good live music and even when they're piping per-recorded stuff through the speaker system it's always an eclectic mix of quality tunes that aren't too trendy. Like the other reviews suggest, stop reading and just go!

Totally awesome. If you're thinking of going, stop wasting time reading and go!

I brought a friend, and walked into the dimly lit, warm woody bar. Street parking wasn't a problem, at least on a Monday evening.

We sat down and this was our experience:

    - 2 pages of delicious beers, organized by style (belgian, lager, etc). The milk stout and CBC pumpkin ale were great!
    - super attentive but not intrusive service, best I've had in Boston
    - decent fries as an app
    - entrees were delicious! Braised beef and Bratwurst plates were both really big and yummy.
    - Had to try dessert, a Taza chocolate pudding. They should call this a truffle in a whiskey glass, it was so thick and delicious with salted whipped cream.
    - A bluegrass band played sitting on stools right next to us. Awesome, really friendly folks.
    - Two girls at the table next to us were sipping drinks and knitting! Such a great idea!

Warm, great beer and food, fast and friendly service, love music and really sweet laid back clientele. Cambridge street is great for walking down, lots of little shops and architectural details to look at.

    I'll be back asap!

By far one of my favorite bars in the city! Where to begin is the real question! The rotating drafts are beyond amazing and in fact lead to a superb surprise each visit! From treogs nugget nectar to founders breakfast stout to idle hands triplication...did I mention Main Beer Company!? The food is the best bar/pub food I've ever had and in fact should be within its own category! All local homemade foods all the way to their rosemary ketchup! The black bean veggie burger with goat cheese surpasses any beggie burger in the city by far!The Mac and cheese hands down the BEST as well! The perfect amount of bread crumbs to top it off with a thick consistency broccoli and spinach with bacon if desired!  Fish tacos are fantastic as well! Did i forget to mention NIm!? He is an amazing bar manager filled with all the knowledge one may need pertaining to the best of beers!

You know that when you walk in a bar and see the headbrewer/owner of one of your favorite local breweries, you're on the right track.

Atwood's is just a great place to be. I love coming during the day and sitting in the front - the windows are usually thrown open, making it a sunny, breezy, wonderful drinking experience.

The bar has a great ambiance of dark wood, warm lighting, and friendly service. There's outside seating in the back with communal picnic tables - which was fantastic for this Texan during the summer. I miss outdoor seating!

It's really chill during the day. I've seen parents bring their kids here! The whole fam rode up on their bikes - it was adorable. I've never been for a show at night, but I hear it gets rowdy.

The food has always been good, there's a big selection of beers (they're big supporters of local breweries!), and a full bar with a good selection. Everything is well-priced. I wish Atwood's was closer to my house!

This was the closest I've ever come to smashing my glass on the floor in a restaurant.

I've been to Atwoods several times since I now live nearby, and the last was the last, forever. The drinks aren't bad, the food isn't either, and the location is prime, but the service is so awful that the drinks taste like vomit, the food is revolting, and its worth walking farther.

My disgust is the result of a bartender/server. A young woman with brown hair and caramel skin, a bit on the hairy side, whose name I do not know. She never smiles. She's as abrupt as can be, throwing menus at my date and me, "what do you want to eat," barely looking us in the eye, seeming more focused on the decor, the time, or passersby. After we've ordered, she offers no confirmation (verbal, a nod, a smile, nope) but instead a cold shoulder, and walks away. The kitchen finishes doing its part and she returns with plates, literally dropping them on the table, the far side of the table, the opposite side of the large table we're sitting at, so that we have to get up to reach across and drag them to our places. No cutlery. After making eye contact several times doesn't draw her back, despite the fact that there is only one other patron in the establishment at the time, I actually wave and yell across the room to get her attention. The meal is OK, but she never checks on us, asks to refill our beer, nothing. The waters are empty, as are the beer glasses, plates cleaned, cutlery parallel, everything shoved over to the far side of the table where she dropped it: insufficient signaling that we're done, I guess, in her case. Eye contact, again, to no avail.

This was the closest I've ever come to smashing my glass on the floor in a restaurant, just to get her attention. An annoyed wave and a yell does the trick, this time she yells back, "you want your bill?" Yes, yes I do. And with the bill I exacted my revenge. But concerning a dining establishment, isn't it better to leave feeling satiated, warm, comfortable, happy? If that's what you're looking for, as I assume you are, keep looking: Atwoods ain't it.

It looks to me like Anthony C. has a personal issue with a particular bartender.

I've always found Atwood's to be a place that serves great beer, nice pours of bourbon and excellent food. They are basically a scratch kitchen which is rare when you consider it's a pub.

My advice, go there for yourself. Check the place out. It's worth a visit and you'll find that the servers and bartenders are just no nonsense people who will get you a refill whenever you're dry.

Atwood's is solid. I had never heard of it living in the City, but we stumbled upon it one night when we were looking for a place to get drinks in Inman Square and ended up having a great time.

It was pretty chill earlier in the evening, but got busier as the night progressed. They have a nice selection of beer, food was good and the people were friendly. Best of all, there was live music that night, which was a real treat. The patio wasn't open when we were there, so I will definitely have to check that out before the end of the summer since everyone has mentioned how amazing it is.

Awesome, awesome beer selection.  Had a fish taco and it was pretty damn good.  Bar tender was very friendly (made some funny, and not-so-funny jokes which were equally entertaining) and provided good service, which really improved the experience.  A running club was meeting at the bar as we arrived--planning to return after a run for a beer.  This kind of gives you an idea of the atmosphere.  The outside area is very nice.

Drink prices were high (not surprising), which is the only reason I don't provide 5*.

We come here for after work drinks quite a bit. Iit has a great outdoors area in the back, which is open during the summer months and is really good for groups.

The variety of drinks is excellent and the food is pretty decent as well. I've had really awesome waitstaff, as well as some that definitely could be better. However, all in all, it's typically a good experience.

The most beautiful biergarten I've seen in Boston to date! It's an amazing summer spot, but the dark-wood paneled interior makes for a wonderful winter atmosphere, too. The service was super friendly and accommodating, both at the bar and at our table.

I would warn that the outside area is communal seating at long tables, though. I know that's not for everyone, and not for me at many places, either, but here the picnic bench vibe made it feel comfortable, and the service sort of puts you at ease about the whole thing. Also good for big groups if you want to meet friends.

The veggie burger is made of much more actual vegetable and far less breadcrumbs than most places. There's some ginger in it, which combined with the carrots in the burger patty give it a sweet and tangy taste. And when you ask for goat cheese on top, they actually give you a very respectable amount, rather than a few scattered crumbles. The side of red cabbage cole slaw was unbelievable. Besides the addition of raisins, it couldn't have been a better side dish....and there was SO MUCH OF IT.

The only real complaint I had was that the service on the patio is slower; maybe we came at an off-time when they were understaffed, because I never got to get a refill on my drink in the hour we were there. But our food order was taken quickly and the entrees came out fast, and our waiter was so darn friendly that I couldn't really hold the lack of refill against him.

Great beers on tap, and everything's kept on a seasonal rotation.

Plus Bruce Springsteen's been here, so you really can't go wrong. Don't believe me. Listen to the Boss.

    This place is amazeballs.

When my fiance and I moved to Wellington-Harrington, we passed Atwood's constantly on our walks to Inman. It is literally stumbling distance from our apartment. Idiots that we were, we couldn't imagine any pub close to riffraff like us would be this superb. As I said--idiots.

It took my brother visiting from out of town to go in. We were forever changed.

Now Atwood's tops this list whenever we want a craft brew and/or a cool, slouchy atmosphere with rollicking live music. And I don't really want to publicize this too much, but the food is rocking in terms of quality AND price. After polishing off a heaping plate of perfect moules et frites avec aioli last night (with an nice nutty brown ale), I can tell you that my greatest weakness is less than a block away. Those  mussels and hand-cut fries will haunt my dreams FOREVER.

I absolutely adore this place. I went for a concert after going to Tommy Doyle's on St. Patricks Day. (Tommy Doyle is my next review...) Maybe it was the contrast from Frat Bar to mellow relaxed bar, maybe it was going from douche-y bartenders to a bartender who delivered my favorite Kentucky Bourbon Ale in a snap, or maybe it going from the painfully sung, karaoke style pop music to smooth soul, but I think this place would be great even on it's own. It was a Saturday night, and at 11:30, it was full in the back, but a comfortable level where you could still move around and jive. My friend and I went there and started out by the front door at a table, and the sound level was loud enough so you're still involved in the music yet still converse at a good level. I plan on going back very soon. It also helps that it's within stumbling distance of my apartment.

(This is just one long ramble of a review, but hey, that only happens when I really like something.)

P.S. There's no way I can do this place justice. So do yourself a favor and go visit!

P.P.S. I didn't even try the food. But the table next to us seemed to have some divine food. Goal for next time!

My guy and I stopped in for a celebratory dinner recently-- for me! I passed two important exams and wanted to treat myself to an awesome burger and equally awesome pints of beer. I was not disappointed.

It was a Monday and quiet inside. It was the night of the NCAA title game so I was a little concerned about crowds but was pleasantly surprised to see a serious lack of TVs in the bar. Not sure if there's one in the back room (since I never went that far) but the bar area itself does not have a TV. This is a good thing, in my eyes.

Friendly bar staff. Our server let me try one of the draft brews before making my selection. A loonnng list of available beers. My favorite beer (of the two I drank) was the Schneider Aventinus (wheat dopplebock). Very smooth with a very slight banana aftertaste. I took every last drop of that baby.

It's not a big bar, so I imagine it gets crowded on weekends. Also, it's sort of expensive for a bar. I think the Schneider was $11. My burger and fries (the Double J) was $12 with cheese. Granted, this beer is special and the fries were hand cut.

Still, if I were a college student looking for an easy, less expensive Saturday at a bar, I would not come here.

    This conversation happened in Atwood.

    Me:  Where you from?
Guy at the bar:  New Paltz, NY.  You?
    Me:  Saratoga Springs area.
Guy:  I lost my virginity in Saratoga Springs.
    Me:  Oh yeah?
Guy:  It was at SPAC at a Huey Lewis and the News  concert
Me: Haha!  I used to cook Pizzas at SPAC.
Guy:  It was behind the bathrooms.  Bruce Hornsby was opening for Huey Lewis.

    Me and guy:  hahahahahahaha.

And that my friends is the best introductory conversation of my entire life.

And the conversation continued...  Apparently, Bruce Springsteen and Peter Wolf came into Atwood's pretty recently to check out a band after Bruce dropped his son off at BC. Guy was here to say hello to Bruce. This was confirmed by the cool young bartender, Nim. We all started talking and it turns out that me, Nim, and Guy are all Yankees fans. What great company to have in Boston.

To think, I almost walked right past this gem. I entered only because a couple walked out and commented on how much they loved the atmosphere inside. I absolutely agree with them. It's dark, yet welcoming; not a dive; and not a college crowd. Major perks include the extensive beer menu on draught and bottle. Food is served until 11:30p.m. (great tip for Hampton Inn and HIE guests). I can't comment on the other food, but my BLT and sweet potato fries were the perfect midnight snack. Wash that down with a Kentucky Bourbon Ale on Draught and you won't regret it.

Atwood, I'm impressed. A venture from the city to Atwood would be well worth your time.

Somehow I never made it to Atwood's in all my travels to Inman. I now see the error of my ways. Live band? Awesome. Great tap list? Awesomer. Brazed beef with spetzel? Awesomest. Can't wait to head back.

Since there are already enough raving reviews, I'll just mention something that bugged me. We were maybe 10 minutes into our meal when the manager came to our table and asked us to move to another table so they could consolidate for a larger group of four coming in. Friday nights are busy, I get that, but this frustrated me to no end. There was no offer to move our plates or any sort of explanation or apology. We literally had to pick up and move every item on our table. For reasons I cannot explain I went along with it. Apparently that night I was a pushover.

Can I ask you a question? Why is this the first bar that I have been in, in Boston, that doesn't have any type of Sam Adams on tap????

Response: "That's what makes us the best"

Soooo not sure, since I am new to boston and everything, but I thought everyone here was supposed to love sam adams and harpoon? No? well this place doesn't...just an FYI Tepring P and I were a little confused heh

Other than that, it is a great little bar, not a ton of tables available, especially during trivia on wednesdays, so if you are coming for that be sure to go EARLY! our table was a high chair and a stool because we got there too late ha

The pasta the guy ordered next to me, looked pretty tasty and actually thinking about it now, makes me want to go make some pasta ha. And our rosemary fries with those dipping sauces were perfect for our beers and ciders!! A little oily I guess, but that oil sure tasted good dipped in that chipotle sauce!! And my friend got a burger too and he finished it, no questions asked.

Trivia is fun here--there is ALWAYS a theme, so try and see if there is something that happened that week before you come it--we had bastille day, so EVERY QUESTION WAS ABOUT FRANCE....ya...we got last place which we ended up aiming for, because last place gets free shots! So if you aren't going to actually place in the top three for those prizes, then aim low and you'll still be a winner then!!

Let me preface this with saying that I'm really not into live music/local music and the few times I've been here, there has been a band setting up or playing. *groan* And with the stage here, they have live acts just about every night. Live singer/songwriter acts. *groan groan groan*

The first time I went here was with Tracee D. and we shared a romantic duck quesadilla late one night. Then I came here one weekend night and it was pretty packed with a semi-choochy crowd of button-downs. It seems like one of the nicer places in the area considering that Courtside is a few steps away.

And then I came here to get some food. I ordered the steak because I was feeling particularly iron deprived and the bruise on my leg wasn't getting any smaller and started migrating downward toward my ankle and puffed up said ankle which nearly made me look like I had CANKLES [or I guess cankle] and I thought that maybe eating a huge steak would alleviate it. I don't know how much of that is true. But apparently, you can get rid of a tapeworm if you hold a raw steak up to either your mouth or asshole. Thanks Discovery Channel!

Plus this seemed like a healthy walk away from my house on a sweltering day to release all the alcohol via my sweat glands.

So I got the hangar steak which came with my choice of two sides. My BF wanted the macaroni and cheese because he's vegetarian and gets. that. every. time. He whined about wanting sweet potato fries and I ordered it for him because the menu said I got two sides with the steak. Then the friendly waitress informs us that he gets one side. So to confuse her even more, we rearrange our order--he gets the M+C with sweet potato fries with some strangely good banana dipping sauce. OMG the carbs! It'll go straight to his milky cottage cheese thighs!

I got the hangar steak, as stated, with mashed potatoes and a Caesar salad [which actually comes with the option of anchovies or chicken on top which I passed]. I got all of that for $14.95. The M+C/sweet potato fries were only $7.95. And my bruise disappeared shortly thereafter. There's healing magic in them thar steak.

Also, on a nice day, they open the large front windows and you can enter/exit through them.

While we came here, about an hour after it opened, I can only judge what it is for a 4 pm breakfast/lunch/dinner - would that be a brelunner?

Walking in, I was pretty impressed with the all dark wood going on, and the fact that they even have a stage built in the back corner of the tavern. Any tavern/pub with a stage gets props in my book.

It is really hard for me to decide how I want to rate this place due to the fact that it was very quiet. The server was most excellent. She was peppy, cheery, and friendly.

My brelunner on the other hand was just merely mediocre. It tasted as if the bolognaise sauce was watered down Prego. I know this is not the case, since everything else here is homemade, but it just tasted so bland, even after adding butter and salt and cheese. I've had great bolognaise at other pubs before, but this just didn't cut it for me. And for that I have to hold back on my rating. But they did have a pretty decent tomato soup.

This is the part that I enjoyed the most:
"We encourage you to make substitutions or changes to your order. We genuinely want you to enjoy your meal the way you like it."

They allowed me to substitute my side with a side of tomato soup instead. That is definitely plus points in my book. The local soda I could do without. It didn't taste as good as I thought it was going to be. It kinda reminded me of Simply Cola from Price Club back in the day.

So.... with all those mixes in, I have to give this place a 3.75 stars. I wouldn't be dieing to come back here. But I wouldn't mind it if I was in the neighborhood.

Seriously good place to take a date with a wood fetish. Or is that just me? I mean, lots of lovely wood on show here... and I did get dragged here on a first date myself and really liked it. Okay - maybe I'm a wood fetishist (?).

Apart from the wood what else do they have?
:: A solid selection of beers from around the world, including my student-days favourite - Tetley's of Leeds.
:: A nice collection of regulars to make the place feel local and friendly.
:: Live music every few nights.
    :: Forward women.

Yes, forward women. Okay - not quite what Oliver S describes (!) but still, the girl I met here managed to move in on me so much that she eventually pointed out that I'd managed over 15 mins to unknowingly slide onto the next stool further along. The lovely girl even asked me if I was going to 'come back and make out' with her. I did - she was my date and it'd gone well.

Point to improve - the bar staff don't seem too knowledgeable about the great beer selection. For example, you don't need to stage-pour a Tetley's like you do with a Guinness.

My review of this place might be a little askew. I had sex in the bathroom here with a girl I met that night. The bathrroms here are perfect for this. You can lock the door and be alone. Also there is a unisex bathroom (in addition to the guy/girl rooms) so no one is waiting while you're doing you're thing.

This being said... It's an awsome place. Great beer, Great bar food and above good prices. The Venicine stew is incredible and at only $8 it's a bargin. for Apps I like the hummas and garlic pita. The staff is friendly (overly friendly) and the place has a great vibe.

An excellent addition to Inman square
