We absolutely love this little coffee shop! The owners are always kind and know their products well. We've lunched here as well as just stopped by for a cup of tea/coffee. We often have our 1 year old with us and it's a very family-friendly atmosphere. Recently they added a bar onto the back of the other side but we've not yet visited the new addition. A one year old and a bar do not mix! I've never ordered anything I regret, but I have found some of their specialty drinks a bit on the sweet side for my liking.

Went here for Saturday brunch and it was my first time in Bellevue. Avenue Brew is a very nice coffee shop - friendly workers, comfortable and roomy interior, and a nice but pretty standard selection of coffee drinks. This would be a nice place to come for a cup of coffee and some reading.

The food menu left something to be desired - muffins were pretty good, spinach quiche was small but tasty but the vegetable omelette was pretty run of the mill and had a lot of cheddar cheese on top. Not sure I would come here again for brunch, but if I am in the area I will not hesistate to grab some coffee.

Breakfast, lunch, brunch, or lite dinner options here.  Primarily a coffer shop, this cozy little gem offers flavorful homestyle fare for the budget conscious food enthusiast.  The biscuits and gravy is by far my favorite breakfast dish.  Their "This n' That" casserole is also a great breakfast option.  Salads, Hoagies, Panini's, and sides featuring a delicious, creamy Mac n' Cheese compliments the variety of sandwich options.  Here you order and pay, them sit back and relax while they prepare your meal.  The self-serve style here add to the homey comfort.  After placing your order besure to grab napkins and tableware before seating yourself.  Likewise, you should expect to courtiously bus your table at the end of your journey.  This small coffee house has become my local favorite.  They also have a small bar, back patio, and will soon feature limited live entertainment.  It's not gourmet with table service and cloth napkins.  It's small, family operated, friendly, comfortable and unpretentious.

Two of my friends from out of town and I were recently wandering around Bellevue and decided to stop into Avenue Brew for a quick bite to eat and coffee. I had never heard anything about Avenue Brew nor read any reviews on it, so I went in with no expectations, high or low.

This place has the potential to be really awesome, but it fell short for me. I'll start with the positives: Friendly service, extremely wallet-friendly, large menu, offers customer loyalty cards (buy 10, get one free kind of thing), a lot of seating, and free wifi. The negatives? Everything we ordered was mediocre. The iced tea was very watered down, the coffee was just ok, and the sandwiches we ordered didn't taste like much (lots of hot sauce required). My friend's sandwich had the piece of paper from the cheese grilled into it, which was pretty unsettling.

If I'm in the area, I might stop back for a quick drink or snack, but I probably won't be going out of my way to pop in. This isn't a bad place, but there are other coffee shops I'd prefer to frequent.

When you step in to this place, you feel like you are at home. Christine (owner) and her staff always greet you with a welcoming smile and hello. The food is comfort food made with love, and a great selection of coffee. Craft beers for the later crowd are always rotating, and if you haven't made it down for a night of music you are missing out. Evenings are laid back and family friendly. I bring my kids down for dinner and music with their regular group The Goodle Boys. This is a staple family night out during the summer. I have a wonderful place in my heart for this business and its owners. This is community at its best. Thank you Avenue Brew for making us all feel a little piece of home when we visit!

Avenue Brew is a toxic wasteland of potential.

My few experiences at Avenue Brew have been for the Highlander Grogg and the Jeni's ice cream.  I love both of those things, but the service is so bad that it is not worth enduring the environment any longer.

Here is my main problem with Avenue Brew:

If you do not pay with cash, you WILL be lectured by the staff about how inconsiderate it is for you to pay with a credit card.  At first, this is mildly annoying, but it happens EVERY TIME using a VISA card.  I have suggested instituting a credit card minimum like other coffee shops have, but they insist they do not want to have a minimum . .  as it would be bad for their customers.   In actuality, badgering customers in front of other patrons about their method of payment is BAD BUSINESS.  The badgering has ranged from a slight suggestion to bring cash, to an outright LECTURE, yelling about how much it hurts the business and attempting to embarrass customers in front of other patrons.

**IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO PAY THE CARD FEES AS A SMALL BUSINESS, DO NOT OFFER THE SERVICE TO PAY WITH CREDIT CARD.  IF YOU ARE THAT PASSIONATE ABOUT PEOPLE PAYING WITH CASH, YOU COULD ALWAYS CHARGE A CREDIT CARD MINIMUM . . . .BUT PLEASE,  DO NOT BADGER THE CUSTOMERS AND LECTURE THEM TO BRING CASH TO YOUR STORE**

I also do not like that there are signs all around the store telling you what to do.  For example, there are signs in the Men's restroom telling you to flush the toilet, or Christine will find you.  POINTLESS!  There are signs above the napkins telling you not to take more than two, or Christine will find you . . . which seems kitschy and funny at first, until you realize that Christine probably will find you, and LECTURE you, the same way she does if you pay with a credit card.

Overall . . . . I like the Highlander Grogg that I get each time, and it is usually made fresh for me which is a plus .  The management makes the experience so terrible that I don't feel comfortable inviting my coworkers to come with me in fear that they will pay with VISA, or take 2+ napkins. . . . and if they did. . . GUARANTEED there would be a scene made.

Avenue Brew is not worth the hassle.

    BEST COFFEE SHOP IN BELLEVUE!

We meet here many times a week with friends, family, and clients and are so thankful that this is in our city!

Loved this little shop. We went to hear bluegrass from the Goodle Boys and ended up having a craft brew and some extremely delicious pumpkin bread pudding. We did not experience slow business at all on a Saturday night. Right in the heart of Bellevue this is such a great little space. Definitely going back.

Had the goetta biscuit w cheese. Delicious! The pumpkin spice coffee was great too. So glad my friend introduced me  to this place. Will def be back. Only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is bc it's a little out of the way. Can't just "stop in" but if I lived closer, I'd be stopin in all the time.

We went Sunday morning after 8am mass, so it was around 9:30 or thereabouts.  Lady running the counter was above friendly and very personable.

My kids got iced coffee/chocolate drinks and I thought they were a bit too icy and light on the flavor.  My husband loved his veggie omelet, though.  However...our food came out 10 minutes after my husband's, so we basically sat there and watched him eat.  My side of goetta was ICE cold.  Not just like it got cold sitting out, but refrigerated cold.  I ordered walnuts on my french toast and had to remind the waitress about them.  The french toast itself was nothing remarkable....texas toast like it said on the menu, with syrup and it was just fine.

The kids liked their food, and their goetta was hot, so not sure what happened there.  You are supposed to pay for coffee refills, and I came prepared to the counter but she let me refill for free x 1, which I appreciated.

I probably won't go back, because it takes a while to get there and I wasn't all that impressed for the money.   Not that the food was bad....it wasn't.  But the very staggered food delivery, cold meat,  and average food just didn't make me want to go back.

Bellevue Bistro across the street is much better....but they were super crowded by the time we got there, which is how we ended up here.

Good friendly service and great coffee. The bread pudding is also to die for.  A good place for a quick bite and a cup of Joe.

Best french onion soup I've ever had, and the grilled paninis are wonderful--my favorite is the ham and swiss with yellow mustard.
Their cheeseburger, though, is one of the best kept secrets in Cincinnati--I'd put it up against any trendy restaurant in town. It's the perfect burger you'd make at home if you had the time plus all of the ingredients on hand to "run it through the garden."  The beef is delicious, the bun grilled, and all the fixin's are incredibly fresh.  Get it with a bowl of their homeade chili.  The grilled chicken ceasar salad is also highly recommended.
I've been pleased with their home-made sweets as well.  Massive chocolate chip muffins, lemon pound cake, and just whatever they whipped up that day.
This is a quaint, very casual spot with a lot of character and friendly people working there.  Whether you visit once or frequently (like I do), they make you feel welcomed and soon know you by name.

I happened upon Avenue Brew about a month ago when I realized I had an almost-expired LivingSocial deal. I'd been meaning to check the place out but hadn't really found the time.

As it turns out, time is a good thing to have when you go to Avenue Brew. Two of us went and ordered breakfast omelettes, and it might have taken us over 15 minutes to get our order. But, I realize that they're limited by their facilities.

The important thing is that the food was DELICIOUS, relatively well-priced, and served in a friendly, cozy environment. I'll definitely be back, and I recommend that you check it out too - just don't go when you're in a hurry.

I'm so conflicted about Avenue Brew.

I want to love this cute little coffee shop on Bellevue but there are just some things that keep me from coming back. And they are things that could possibly change (and I hope they do.)

This is an adorable little coffee shop on the main stretch of Bellevue's shopping district. It's colorfully decorated, there are two rooms for you to sit in and the food is quality. I've got a few different type of sandwiches and it always comes out warm and delicious.

However, it is slow. So slow. The last time I went there, there was only the owner working behind the counter and her mother was cooking in the back. And they had a line almost to the door. She was also trying to replace coffee, answer phones and talk to customers. It was so chaotic. I felt so bad for her, until I learned this wasn't a one time type thing but happened often, as I watched it happen again.

The hours are also a little wonky, as they close at 4pm on Monday and Tuesday and 3pm on Sunday but are open later on other days. It's frustrating when you're in the area looking for coffee or food only to find it closed at a time that, if it was the next day, they'd be open.

Avenue Brew can also get crowded quickly as people wait for their meals, so watch out for that.

Honestly, it's such a cute shop with great atmosphere and the owner is a very friendly woman. There are just a bunch of little things that make it hard to fully love it. Right now If I could do 3.5 I would. And I'm more than willing to come back and try again, and improve the review if the place gets a little better.

Another case where I wish I could do 3.5 stars. I've given Avenue Brew a few more tries since my first review and I've found a lot more positives, but I still can't rate it a full 4.

    Yays:
Coupons ($5 off from Entertainment Book and Buy 1 Get 1 50% off Breakfast Sandwich via Yelp Check-in)
    Cheerful, helpful service
    Graffiti wall
Window tables so you can people-watch Fairfield Ave while you sit
Good food - goetta egg & cheese breakfast sandwich = nom. Also, breakfast served all day

    Boos:
Food orders take foreverrrr so be prepared for a wait
Hours - only open til 4pm
Inside is not very conducive to working or reading. Music is on the loud side and somehow there isn't the same 'stay a while' vibe that say, Coffee Emporium or even Starbucks gives off

When I posted my first review of Avenue Brew in 2010 ended it with "Let's hope the upward trend continues."

    It has.

The place has improved on their drinks and food and they've become a part of the community like no other shop on Fairfield Ave.

I stopped by on Saturday and while the place was busy Kristen and Joe not only served us - with just a touch of confusion - but made us feel at home and comfortable.

I live so close to Avenue Brew and I so want this to be my go-to coffee spot. But, it just can't be.

The main problem is the speed of service here. Most of my coffee stops are when I'm already running late to be somewhere else. Every time I've stopped by I've left frustrated with how long it took to get my latte or even a cup of coffee sometimes.

I will say though that this slower service can lead to a more relaxed atmosphere. This spot is good for sitting around with a friend for a few hours. Or grabbing a muffin and a cup of coffee and tackling the cross word puzzle in the paper.

What a delightful place in Bellevue.  There are tables in the windows along the street and a full menu.  The Greek salad was okay, but the caprese panini was awesome.  Good solid latte, fairly tasty muffin, cute funky ambiance, very nice owner.

Avenue Brew is a cool eclectic coffee shop centrally located in Bellevue's beautiful historic Fairfield Avenue business district. The shop, recently expanded boasts a full menu of coffees as well as several delicious meals. Trust me, I've eaten at this place almost every week since they first opened.

For food I can highly recommend the hamburger which always tastes divine. There is a choice of cheeses and I typically wonder between the pepperjack and the cheddar. The Callahan panini is also a very solid choice. For salads, their chicken Caesar salad is amazing.

But why am I talking about food when this is a COFFEE shop right!? Luckily Christine, the owner, has had years of experience as an expert barista. She can make anything and everything from dirty hippies (chai latte plus a shot of espresso) to the perfect cup of house blend.

So stop in, get a cup, grab a bite and write your name on the wall!

Great environment and the coffee is marvelous.

If you're looking for a custom-cooked breakfast go elsewhere, but the microwaved items we had were very good and there was a wonderful variety of items to choose from.

The staff is friendly and the seating a mixture of tables/chairs, couches, etc...

This place was alright... I think the atmosphere and the weird service took away from the quality drink I had. I got a mango smoothie, which was delicious. But it was partly made and cashiered by the owner's daughter, who couldn't have been more than 8 or 9. (I also saw her sneeze while walking back into the ktichen area and she didn't cover her mouth.) The place was cute, but kind of cramped in spots, although the window seats were nice and private. All in all, I might try this place again, but it wouldn't upset me if I didn't.

I live in the lovely neighborhood of Bellevue so I frequen the Avenue Brew. Regarding the poor review below, I generally go to the store 4+ times a week and I have NEVER seen anything like you mention in your review. Just sayin'.

The coffee is great! I buy beans here to brew at home and they are phenomenal. I think I have probably sampled nearly every baked good offering and they are all very tasty. Plus they make ALL of their food in house, unlike the big chain coffee joints. Try anything on the menu---you won't be disappointed. Particularly recommend the caprese panini.

What really makes this place are the owners, Christine and Larry. They are warm, welcoming and genuinely happy to see each
and every customer (unlike the teenagers
    working at McCoffee-type joints).
Also I heard from Christine that there is soon to be a patio opening up! Sweet!

Awesome little independent Mom n' Pop coffee shop. Dogs welcome at the few outside tables. Great coffees, with a good selection of home made breakfast and lunch items. AMAZING chocolate chip muffins. Live music usually first Friday of the month for Shop Bellevue. They are now open 7 days a week. GOOD NEWS! The patio will soon be open and they are working on a liquor license. Larry and Christine give their shops tons of personality. They are very connected and caring of their Bellevue community neighbors. I consider Christine my barista and personal therapist! The chocolate chip muffins are irresistible and if you are lucky enough to get one, do it. They often sell out the entire tray to a certain local news personality.

This place has positives and negatives.
    1. Good quality coffee and espresso beans. Local coffee shops generally seem to use espresso beans with a distinct, not-so-good bite. Avenue Brew's beans are good.

    2. Bad quality syrups. I've worked in coffee shops and know that flavored syrups can be quite expensive. However, if  you don't shell out the money for a quality syrup then you don't get a good flavor. Skip the foo foo drinks at Avenue Brew because their syrups stink.

    3. Atmosphere: wish this was the type of place I could hang out, drink coffee and work on the laptop. The decor is hodge-podge and more like a tacky home than a coffee shop. Most of the seating is tiny & uncomfortable. Also, there's usually some kind of distractingly bad music being played like disco.

    4. Awesome baked goods! Everything I've tried in the sweets department has been fresh & very tasty.

    5. Service: very pleasant and enthusiastic

    6. Health Dept code violations!!!! Seriously. Ew. Anyone who's ever worked in food service or just has common sense knows that you don't eat in front of customers and you certainly don't stuff morsels of food between your lips AS you're making someone's coffee drink! The OWNER actually ate the whole time she made my drink. And by eat I mean tiny bites of candy or something which required that she touch her lips every time she put something in her mouth. Also, they serve lunch there too and while my drink was being made she allowed an older girl plus a child to stand behind the counter eating the potato chips they serve with lunch. Basically these two people were jamming their hands into a big communal box of husman's or whatever, sticking the chips in their mouths, licking their fingers and then going back to the communal box for more. Makes you want to go there and order a sandwich & chips eh?
