My profile says my last meal on Earth would be beer and pizza. That's right, I'm a pizza junkie and I take it seriously. I'm also a beer junkie and Barlo's has none so that's an immediate loss of a star in my book. You have to sell beer if you're going to sell pizza.
The pie itself was decent. There was not enough cheese but I thought the crust was delicious. I never understood how people can eat pizza and not eat the crust. That's an important part of it and Barlo's does it right.
They offer a salad bar with one trip for $2.99 or AYCE for $5.99. We opted for one trip. It's pretty basic. Lettuce, cheese, black olives, cauliflower, dressings, croutons. No mushrooms. Bummer.
We had read about the cinnamon rolls so we decided to try those and they were good. Could have used a little more icing, but still good.
The service was GREAT. Now, we were one of only two tables in there but they were on top of it. Thanks to the helpful staff.
Overall, it was good but not a place I'll be rushing back to. I would go again if a friend wanted to go but it's definitely not my favorite pizza place on the south side.
Sometimes pizza is just pizza. After geeking the fugg out about the stuff in minute detail day after day, it's nice to just enjoy a pizza as an oooey-gooey, cheesed-to-holy-heaven-as-only-Americans-can meal. Â not NY style or Chicago or California style either. I would say it's kind of a Trenton/New England/pizza parlor-ish mix. Â Whatever, you know what, it's great. Turn off the pizza-snob-analysis portion of your brain, and enjoy the comfort-food-of-your-youth works. This is basically what pizza is at Barlo's.
1) The ingredients are fresh, flavorful. Â Toppings are full coverage. Â Quality cheese in abundance. not for the lactose weak.
2) Crust is Goldilocks 'just right' thickness. Â Lil' crunch, lil' chew, light dusting of herbage on top.
3) The store is clean. Â I repeat, the kitchen, the counter, the floor, everything is clean. Big stars for clean.
4) 'Fresh veggies' mini-salad bar that is NOT your sorry bagged iceberg laziness.
5) Â The staff is mature and always great. Â Nothing against teens needing to have jobs. Something against teens who missed employee training day and could care less. In contrast, calling up Barlo's is a pleasure, they are always helpful and never seem bothered by your questions-- even if you want them to explain every single specialty pizza on the menu.
They will perfectly customize to your liking (within reason)--
What's good on the menu? Â Well you can't go wrong with straightforward cheese! Â It's just great.
Pepperoni. Â Single topping goodness.
Unique menu item worth mentioning--Asian Teriyaki-- yes, there is a thin layer of rice over the pizza crust. certainly different and not bad but a little odd for me.
Bottom line, tasty & quality traditional 'American' style pizza that is pretty good eatin no matter where you're from. Â This isn't the only local pizza place I support, but when you have a craving for a pizza without questionable ingredients and/or questionable results, then this is the place you go.
Some of the best pizza I have had. Â There is just something about a huge slice of pepperoni pizza that you have to fold over to eat. Â I am usually a guy that loves a lot of toppings, but here I dont think I would go much more that pepperoni and sausage. Â The cheese and sauce on the tender dough is top notch. Â I would order from here any day of the week.
Review Source:We've been ordering pizza from Barlo's practically since the first day they opened. We really don't care for all of the chain pizza restaurants so we really lucked-out when Barlo's opened. Â Not only is it an independent pizza store but their pizzas, calzones and strombolis are all some of the best we've had. Â Their pizzas are handtossed with homemade dough that end up having the big air bubbles in them after baking. Â They only use the best quality ingredients and they are not chintzy with the toppings. Â We have tried most of their gourmet recipe pizzas and have liked them all. Warning: The Devil's Own spicy pizza is truly hot & spicy! Â I love hot food and this one just about tears me up. Â But, in a good way. Â We also really love the Greek pizza with fresh spinach, black olives, feta cheese, red onions and a ricotta cheese sauce. Add the roma tomato slices and you've got a perfect pie. I can't compare their prices to the other chain pizza stores but if Barlo's is more expensive they're worth it.
Review Source:Stumbled across this gem of a place for a late lunch today while hungry as I traveled for first time this afternoon through Indiana with dinner yelp plans still 5 hours away.
The woman who greeted me was very friendly and explained / recommended some of the signature menu items such as stuffed deep dish pizza (which looked great, but I did not try) and the cinnamon rolls (which I certainly didn't need but couldn't resist trying when they were ooey, gooey and warm- yummy!)
The pizza featured high quality meat (pepperoni and crumbled sausage), a flavorful not too thick and not too thin crust and tasty, melty cheese served extra-hot as requested.
Not sure about dinner time, but slices are available at lunch, starting at around $2.50 or so and there are a number of $6.99 lunch specials which included stromboli, calzone or small pizza w/ breadsticks and a drink - bargain!
This place is better than I anticipated- definitely yelp-worthy!
