Finally, found my new favorite spot in Cambridge.
Stopped in randomly with two friends on a Saturday night. The place was busy, but not overcrowded at all- which is a huge plus of course. It was in a cozy building with lots of outdoor space and lights- beautiful decor. I had heard about their winter smore roasts- and was sold on that (can't wait to come back in the winter for it!).
The staff blew me away- they were extremely friendly and brought us 'gifts' to try all night on top of our order. We tried lots of cheeses (the Butter cheese was a favorite at our table). The food overall was incredible! We had so much and between the three of us, our bill was only $90 including a bottle of great wine.
I already have plans to make this a weekly wine spot- Can't wait to go back!
Would make an amazing date spot, or a night out with a couple friends.
We were a group of 3 girls and went in not completely starving. We ordered a bottle of wine and wanted to get just a few bites. We ended up ordering the parmasian cheese plate, edamame which was different than regular edamame, the cauliflower and arugula salad. They were all good but our wine took a little long to get to the table (not a problem for us at all) but they were very apologetic and gave us chickpea fritters on the house. Those were amazing!
We also decided to order some more cheese since we were so close to the cheese table and everything looked so good in the little glass cases (5 stars on the decor and presentation of the cheese table!). That was by far the best thing we got all night. It was the butter type of cheese and came with little toasts, honey and some apple jam type of spread. I highly recommend you order some cheese, especially whatever is in the butter dish.
The staff was extremely nice, talkative and fun. I would definitely go back again.
I went to Belly Bar on Saturday night. We got there around 8:15 and were able to sit outside on the patio (8:15pm, Saturday night, party of 4, outside, what????????). They have a very wine-bar-like menu, with 1 exception, the fried chicken dinner. Usually you have to tell them in advance that that's what you want, but we didn't and they had it available. However, after an entire day in the sun, we opted for bites, cheese, and charcuterie. They also had a few pasta options, but it's definitely geared toward 'bites' rather than full fledged dinner.
First, the drinks. 3 of 4 had the bartender's choice 'citrus-y' and absolutely loved the drink. No recollection of what it was, but the bartender came out and presented them to us. It was pretty cool and obvious that she was passionate about bartending, and thoughtful about preparation. The third had beer that the waiter recommended, and really enjoyed it. They don't have the traditional beer list you'll see (Sam, Stella, Blue Moon, etc.). So he was great with description. Later we got a bottle of the Gruner Vetliner and it was great.
Food-wise, we got the mongress' platter of cheese, it came with 2 types of bread, honey and cherry compote. There were probably 9 kinds of cheese on the platters (there were 2 platters since one of the cheeses was super ripe and basically melted when we cut into it). The mongress came out and explained all of the cheeses to us, there was a ricotta, a Gouda-like, a Parmesan-like, 2 bleus, that one super ripe guy, another one that was the 'butter' course that was unbelievable... Delice de bourgogne. And about half way through we had forgotten (obviously from the above) cheeses names, and we asked our super professional waiter to write them down. The mongress typed it all up for us and brought out a copy for each of us, and went through the cheeses again. She was AMAZING.
We also got a plate of charcuterie that my friends enjoyed. I'm not a red meat eater, so can't comment on that one.
Additionally, we got a buratta-whoa delicious. We got each of the veggies (asparagus, broccoli rabe, and rosemary potatoes. All were delish, with the grilled asparagus being my favorite. It was nice to have some greens with the meal. We ALSO (I know, we're fatties) got the fried chickpeas. Whoa. That's a must have. I've never had fried chickpeas before, but they were light and absolutely fabulous.
I think the bill was about $60/pp.... but it was my birthday, so I'm guessing.
It was a great atmosphere, like a high end picnic table situation. It was perfect. A great atmosphere, it was warm and welcoming and felt like a great place to celebrate. Highly recommended.
For the past decade, have been wondering why there was never a wine bar in Cambridge. Â Now there is. Now, but NYC standards, probably 3stars, but for Boston/Cambridge.
As they've just been starting up, service has been a bit rocky on our two visits. But they've been responsive and are working to improve.
Their wine selection is a bit slim, but it's great for people who don't have much experience with wine. you can learn a little about the wine and you can't go wrong with what you choose.
And the ambiance is great. Low key and comfortable.
What a great evening!  Four of us made reservations for the 'Arm and Leg Dinner".  I can't say enough about the food, service, wine, atmosphere!  Everything was wonderful.  To be able to execute four courses of lamb and have each one delight is quite an incredible accomplishment!  The wine was  reasonably priced and very good with wonderful selections.  Thanks to the staff who were great, our server Stephan was knowledgeable, efficient and had a great personality.
Fortunately we all love lamb, the polenta and grilled eggplant, peppers, onions were presented so colorful and bountiful! Â Just an exquisite meal! Â Can't wait to do it again this summer when the menu changes. Â Who know what they'll come up with.
One of the best date places I've been. Everything, from the decoration, to the expansive chacouterie and cheese plates to the endless supply of rare wines and the knowledgeable and friendly staff made this experience memorable (albeit a tad expensive). I never knew that Parmesan cheese can be paired so beautifully with honey, it has opened my eyes forever!
Food: 4 stars
Price: 3 stars
Service: 4 stars
Decor: 5 stars (screams dates)
Love this place!!! Place is small and cozy but not too small. Perfect for date night or a group of friends. Â Staff was awesome at explaining the menu. Cheese platter was awesome. Â Only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is because I thought the wine list was way too expensive and the salad was "good" but not worth the money.
Review Source:Our group of four went to celebrate a birthday earlier this week. Living in New York City, I have visited many wine bars in NYC and was excited to check out a wine bar in Boston, as the city seems to be missing wine bars in the nightlife scene. I really wanted to like Belly, but it came up short for a few reasons. One, the wine list was rather confusing and limiting. This was the consensus amongst our group. Kudos to the Belly staff for being knowledgeable and offering samples, but a more straightforward wine list would be very helpful. The second reason Belly missed the mark for me was the prices. The prices were outrageously high for the quality of wine we were served and the prices are much higher than other wine bars I have visited. Overall, love the decor, staff and concept but without a few simple changes, we won't be going back.
Review Source:This place is AWESOME. I went here on a date and was pleasantly surprised at the concept behind Belly.
My date and I ordered a number of cheeses, and the waitress was really helpful at describing the different types they offer. They divide them up into categories, but the one that stuck in my mind from that night was their "Butter" offering. Holy. Yum. Melted in your mouth. Sooo delicious. My date also insisted we order "stinky cheese" (don't ask me the type because I wouldn't have a clue) and that was also divine.
My date, who eats meat, also ordered some salumi and charcuterie, and really enjoyed what he ordered. I believe they also offer oysters, but we didn't order any (poo).
The waitress was really helpful in selecting wines for us, as they have a pretty good selection. They offer different sized pours, which is great if you want to try their different wines. One of them was so good we decided to get the name for later.
All in all, I think this place was fantastic. It's not really somewhere to go for dinner, unless you order a TON. It is definitely on the more expensive side, especially the wines, but I would go back in a heartbeat. Would definitely recommend!!
Kudos to the Owner's of the Blue Room - pure genius.
Put up a wall, paint the walls a different color, throw some mirrors up, and call it a wine / charcuterie bar - genius. Â They must have quadrupled their $/sf overnight.
Great wine and charcuterie selection. Â Probably not a good dinner choice, but I've yet to be disappointed by anything that I've ordered. Â
Knowledgable staff who can walk you through both the food and drink menus.
I'll be back.
PS. Please buy different chairs for the bar. Â Terrible to get in and out of.
I will happily go to this bar whenever called upon. It's got a great atmosphere - something about all the different wine glasses, the various bottles dotting the tables, the bar stool/tables set up, just makes me feel very cosmopolitan. The service is great - boy do they know their wines - and they've got excellent cheese courses to satiate your appetite for any type of rich, smooth, blue or historical nibbles (don't forget to ask for the Von Trapp cheese - totally a thing!).
From my belly to yours - thank you!
My friends and I had a wonderful night at Belly, Â The service is impeccable, especially Fannie, who is friendly, knowledgeable and down to earth. Â She took great care of us, offering tastings of wines to help us make informed choices. Â We had a chef's selection of cheeses and meats and it was fantastic. Â The breads and other accompaniments were delicious. Â The space is cozy, the other diners were friendly, and to top it off there were complimentary homemade s'mores that you could cook on the outside fire. Â Truly a great time, great staff and yummy food.
Review Source:When I first heard that this place was opening right next to The Blue Room, right in Technology Square, I was very excited. Even more so after hearing that it was going to be a wine bar complete with cocktails and some delicious cheeses and salumi. The team behind it is also behind The Blue Room (which I love) and Central Bottle (which is decent but expensive) so it was with a very light step that I proceeded to go there on a chilly evening to have a couple of drinks before heading out to dinner in the neighborhood.
We arrived and walked down the stairs towards the very discreet door. It's not on the same level as the square, it's slightly recessed under it, on the right side of The Blue Room. There was a beautiful fire pit with a fire going outside and it makes the entire area smell absolutely amazing, especially since the smoke was being caught by the buildings and couldn't spread too much which concentrated the smell. But unfortunately the fire was outside not inside.
Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted by two staff members and asked to choose between a table against the back wall or one of the high, communal tables in the middle of the room; we picked the latter and then looked at the menu. Our friendly waitress arrived and helped us pick a couple of wines to try - we selected our wines and then decided between a 2oz pour or a 5oz pour. I found that clever however their wine selection is extremely limited and the pours are also very expensive. That quickly turned me off. Plus her first couple of recommendations completely missed the mark as both myself and the fiancee didn't like what was suggested. Luckily though, we were only given a taste and there was no charge for that, which I thought was great.
We also decided to order a couple of bites to eat and decided on some salumi, which in our case was some soppressata ($7) and some blue cheese ($7). They each came on their own wooden board and we quickly ran out of room on the table. I don't know why they didn't combine them but each were quite remarquable. The soppressata was sliced extremely thinly and we had about 12-15 slices on there and the blue cheese we had came served with some pear-stout jam and some wildflower honey. There was also some fabulous pecan-cranberry bread and some baguette. That was probably our favorite part of being there.
While we sat there enjoying our time in this intimate, cozy setting, we did notice a plate of amazing-looking bone marrow go by which I need to try next time however it comes at a hefty price of $12. Like many things at Belly, a lot of things are prohibitively expensive. The concept is so great, that's it is almost a shame and we quickly blew through $40 with a couple of small glasses of wine, one small piece of cheese and the salumi. They do offer other options including all kinds of charcuterie like rabbit rillettes ($9), boudin blanc ($14) and various snacks like steak tartare ($13) and they even have oysters. I found the food items on there appetizing and a bit more affordable than the wine.
Speaking of the wine, the menu is all over the place and seemed very Riesling-centric. There's a few funny references in there including the one in regards to Romney's Binder Full of women and although funny, the prices will quickly halt your chuckles. The 5oz pours, considered to be small in most restaurants range from $9 to $35. And that's just for a 5oz pour! Insanely expensive. You do get to taste the wine to make sure that you do like it, at no charge though, but still, c'mon guys, 5ozs is nothing. You could try and do a flight of wines using their 2oz pours and pricing but that will still set you back anywhere from $3.50 to $14 which again, is also very expensive. And frankly, having had a 2oz and a 5oz pours of different wines, I didn't them any of them to be all that worth it.
One thing I do want to highlight is the decor. It's charming, modern, sleek but not overdone. The bar is beautiful and is made out of marble, the high chairs and tables add a nice contract and create a depth in comparison to the tables alongside the back wall. It's not the biggest of places but it's just perfect in size.
I feel like the place has just missed the mark on their wine selection and their pricing for them. There's also a huge imbalance between the size of the selection if you go by glass instead of by bottle. The bottle selection is huge, and yet the one by glass is so limited. I don't get it. So much potential and yet... it just seems to miss the mark. They also have beers and cocktails but it is a wine bar, and if I want a good cocktail, there's Hungry Mother a block away...
All and all I think that I'll probably be back to try it again but I won't be rushing.
I love this place for a date night. Â Dark, romantic ambiance, in a difficult-to-find location tucked in the bottom level of One Kendall Square next to the Blue Room, who is affiliated with them. Â However, Belly is much better than the Blue Room, in my humble opinion. Â Fabulous wine along with helpful recommendations by the friendly bartender, coupled with charcuterie boards of glorious meats and cheeses to share. Â You cannot go wrong here! Â I will be back...and I am looking forward to my next visit.
Review Source:I came here as a layman. Â I've stayed away from getting "into" wine because I'm afraid of the $$ I'll drop. Â I've stuck with the craft beer craze instead.
I think this is a place you can visit whether you're a wine connoisseur or just a novice with a love for interesting, varied flavors. Â Sitting here, sharing a variety of cheeses and cured meats, sampling 4 oz glasses of wine - - I was a happy camper. Â The server gave us her two cents but wasn't intimidating. Â Food or wine, every bite tasted different and the combinations felt endless. Â I came with a small group of coworkers, but I would definitely recommend for a date. Â Heck, bring a stranger and everything you taste will give you something to talk about!
Beautiful space, substantial and varied furniture (high tables, gorgeous marble bar, separate back room, cozy low benches and tables): Belly is one sexy place to grab a drink and some snacks. Doesn't feel cramped at all, which is such an unexpected luxury, especially in puffy coat season. They seem to have solved the potential front door draft issue with the Blue Room's nice big fire pit out front.
Oh, and bone marrow luges. Just go with it.
Unique small plate bar. We went there on a visit to our son's after Thanksgiving. Try the "Spanish Quarter", if it is not on the menu, the barkeep will make it. The most unique, flavorful and ... alcoholic drinks I have ever had the pleasure to drink; smokey ( the glass is rinsed in Laphroaig), the hint of a Manhattan, faintly sweet,.... the list goes on. We found all the small plates we tried tasty. The wine selection, though small, was thoughtful and the Albarino was very good. They need to put an airlock on the door ( it was a cold night) and the hugh white wall to the left when you enter needs some art work ( large, inexpensive black and white photo reproductions would do wonders). Worth a visit if you are in the area.
Review Source:Odd set up. I don't know what they'll do when it starts to get cold because the door opens right onto the bar.
Wines by the glass are well priced, bottle are all $35 and up. Cheeses were very good. Not a place to come for dinner. Better to split a bottle of wine and have some cheese or meats for a quick visit after work or before a movie.
I don't usually Yelp and give 2 stars, usually I yelp to commend an establishment. Unfortunately Belly really missed the mark for me. I'm not much of a wine bar guy, I like wine, and the wine I had was great. Well priced for it's quality.
It was the food that really fell short, and in a big way. Parslied ham, a french classic and staple on most farmhouse tables is a humble but truly great dish especially when the cold has just hit. Not here, no flavor except for an oddly sour taste. The liver mousse was fine, nothing exciting, completely overpriced and miniscule. Same with the rabbit, and come to think of it, everything else we tried. Overpriced and not satisfying or interesting. How do you dissappoint with charcuterie?
Over $100 later I turned to my friend and said, "Where are we going next? I'm starving and I need a drink"
On a chilly Friday night, we found ourselves hunkered down in Belly Wine Bar, which suited the night perfectly with it's ski-lodgeish feel and wafting smells of firewood.
Although the small basement restaurant was lively and completely packed, it only took about 10 minutes to get a comfortable seat towards the back. Keep in mind, this is not the place to go if you want to have a quiet, intimate conversation. Though we were seated at a table for two, there were about 10 people squished into the 4 top next to us.
As a previous Yelper mentioned, the reds were mostly Beaujoulis, which the server said was "in season". Not sure what he meant by this, but the beaujoulis that he recommended was quite lovely with the meats & cheeses we ordered.
We sampled the foie pate, ham terrine, jamon iberco, crepinette de veau, and a couple of cheeses. The selection was maybe on the smaller side, but the offerings were thoughtful. Portions were generous compared with other restaurants that give you 3 slices of charcuterie or a miniscule piece of cheese.
Loved the wine and food offerings, the communal atmosphere and even our slightly hyper waiter. A most welcome addition to the Boston/Cambridge food scene.
You guys: if you like wine, cheese, and/or meat, you owe it yourself to get down to Belly ASAP. Boston has been lacking an excellent, casual wine bar and Belly delivers in a big way. Let me break it down:
Wine: Belly has a fantastic, quirky wine list. The list of glass pours is ~20 glasses and it's slated to change every few weeks. Right now, there are a few long lists of wines by style, region, and producer, broke up into clearly marked categories. ("Beaujolais: for you and your cru.") There aren't many "safe" wines on the list -- one could exhaust the list of more common wines in a few glasses -- but isn't that why you go to a wine bar? Ask the awesome staff and they'll steer you in the right direction.
Even better, 2oz tasting pours are priced proportionally to the full glass pours -- so instead of depth you can go for breadth and, say, try all the orange wines on the menu in one sitting. (Cool!)
Cheese: Complementing the wine list is a fantastic cheese list, with one or two featured cheeses that you can order by category (earth, salt, butter, homegrown, etc). Easy to order, even easier to eat, and happily paired with delicious wines that elevate the whole experience if you ask the awesome staff.
Meats: Yeah, now it's getting real. I haven't had a chance to sample the salumi yet, but I will say the bone marrow and charcuterie are absolutely fantastic. The bone marrow, in particular, is a large portion of long bones topped with caramelized onions and served up with a bit of toast and is mouthwateringly rich. Get in there.
Bonus: Scour the menu for a few treats like The Rainmaker, a 3 liter jeraboam of wine that you buy not for yourself, but for everyone in the joint, and a 5 liter box of wine in case you need to get the party started in a big way. And don't miss the excellent cocktails!
Double bonus: I now live two blocks away, so there's a decent chance you'll see me there muching on charcuterie for second dinner and downing several glasses of wine.
This is an example of being let down by Food and Wine. Â I read the article where Belly was named one of the top spots to have wine in the US...and, I was sadly disappointed.
Pros:
-The spot is cute, though it could have been a bit more dimly lit.
-If it had been warmer, the fire outside was adorable and I'm sure it's a lovely spot to sit and enjoy some wine.
-Wine itself was tasty
-Staff was friendly - thanks for letting us pick and choose our table!
Cons:
-There aren't enough food options....I'm fine with no real entrees (yes, there is one steak), but why not have a few more finger foods that sound a bit more appealing...? Â I just didn't think anything was really worth trying...but could have been my mood. Â The parm with honey was 'almost' calling me...
-I agree with some of the other reviews that there aren't a lot of wines. Â They have TONS by the bottle, but the by the glass options aren't quite so easy...there are a bunch from a single producer, then others that are split by region. Â I also didn't like that the server assumed we had no knowledge at all about wine and seemed a bit condescending when he asked if we needed help with the menu (otherwise, he was nice)...however, he did pour some things not on the glass menu, so I have to say, he was pretty good.
-The atmosphere should seem a bit more...intimate. Â I'm not sure if it was the time we went, but it seemed cold to me.
I think that this spot has potential, but I found it a bit restrictive (and I love almost all wine - and can appreciate those that I don't like, so having a small list for me wasn't an issue, but I think that those who aren't so adventurous might have more trouble).
I had the best time at Belly - largely due to the fantastic folks that work there. Â I stumbled in with a friend looking to be entertained, and entertained we were! Â The bartender, whose name escapes me now, was amazing - he had the perfect words to describe each cheese, meat, and wine, so that each of us just had to have whatever we were eyeing. Â He also answered all our questions (and we had about 3 hours worth) very patiently. Â And, he was the first bartender who actually thought it was cool that I was doing a "sober month". Â
The food was great, the wines were really unique (never heard of orange wine before), the decor and ambiance outstanding. Â I cannot wait to go back, ideally on a romantic date with a tall, dark, and handsome man.
I saw this place opened and I was really excited.
One night my boyfriend and I decided to go and we were actually extremely deceived by the evening spent there.
The cheese and meats was served before the salad.
When the cheese came out we had no bread-we waited 5 minutes still nothing. So we ate the cheese by itself and once we had finished- the bread was brought to our table.
The wine was not cold enough, so the waiter put it a vase- and it had a whole it leaked everywhere.
Not to mention, we had 5 different waiters- it was so confusing and also Price range- was very expensive for what we ordered.
I don't think I will go again.
However, I also give them the benefit of the doubt that it was their first week since their opening.
I am so happy we finally have a wine bar in Boston/Cambridge!!! Â I went last night for the first time and I absolutely fell in love. Â It's a quaint little spot with nice decor, cheese table in the bar and a cool bar area. Â The staff was super friendly and made good recommendations on wine and cheese. Â Great music!!!! Â We ordered 3 types or cheeses and the portions were huge, which is nice because they are normally small. Â
If you are in the arear or looking for a quaint place with good music, wine and cheese definitely check this new place out.
Went to Belly for the first time last night and we really liked the place. Not to big, not too loud, well decorated and just busy enough for us. The food was great, the duck pate en croute was killer, as was the rabbit rillette.
Only gripes I had was that the cheeses and meats all seemed to come on a huge platter, often the only thing on the plate. I get the whole zen presentation thing but for the sake of our small round table, its ok if some of the meats and cheese share a single plate. They are friends, they will get along just fine together!
The service was excellent although our first courses seemed to take a while to come out, odd given they are just sliced meats. Belly has only been open for 10 days so Im sure they are working these small kinks out and will be well on their way to become a favorite local wine and salumi spot. We will definitely go back soon!
I was unimpressed with Belly.
Firstly, there was a serious lack of breadth to the by-the-glass wine selection for a place that calls itself a "wine bar". Â The white wines consisted of mostly sweet wines like rieslings, gewurzes, and moscados, and the reds comprised ENTIRELY of beaujolais, no joke.
I was also disappointed with the food. Â @ $14 for a half dozen island creeks ($2.30/oyster), I was shocked at how fishy tasting they were. Â My wife and I wondered whether they had been sitting out all day and gone bad. Â Not to mention they need to do a better job shucking (there were lots of shell bits in the oysters) and they were served with no accoutrements. Â The iberico ham was, well, iberico ham, so that was good, and the chicken liver mousse was also pretty good and a bargain at only $6. Â The nail in the coffin, however, was the cheese. Â We ordered a pecorino cheese and, for $7, literally got two shavings that wouldn't have satisfied a mouse.
The service was generally friendly, though I could see how someone might be put off by the *slight* air of pretentiousness. Â But that goes with the territory of a snooty wine and cheese bar! Â Especially in Cambridge, the most egocentric city on the planet.
It just saddens me that the Boston area has no really outstanding wine bars. Â Best I've found so far is Bin 26 Enoteca in Beacon Hill - so I'd recommend taking the Red Line one stop in to Charles/MGH rather than Belly.
This place is chic, tucked away and cozy. Â The decor is perfect down to the patterned tiles and rustic wood beams. The bar seats are comfortable but modern looking.
Fanny, our bartender, was incredible. Â She is so friendly and made all kinds of magic happen. Â Poof, beet salad. Â Poof, cheese. Â
We enjoyed a couple glasses of bubbly and parm that was broken of a large wheel on the bar. Â A little side of honey complimented my salty cheese and made me a happy buzzin' lil honeybee. Â I had the beet salad which had golden beets dressed in balsamic and tossed with chiffonades of romaine. Â The beets are mixed with chickpeas and kidney beans. Â Every bite was tasty and exactly what I have been looking for. Â Nothing over the top, just simple snacks executed well. Â
This is the perfect place to lounge and get caught up with friends without going out to dinner. Avoid the times before and after movies though, as it gets a little busier then.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy some vino! Salut!
Belly is the new place I had the highest hopes of loving given its heritage. Â They came close to perfection in my first visit but left me expecting more. Mind you the cheese selections were excellent and pricey (The Madonna had the right balance of quality, substance, and price) and the lamb bacon and eggs dish was unbelievable. But what was lacking was the cohesiveness and storytelling of central bottle's themed wine bars and wine clubs. I was secretly wishing Belly would offer wine flights with a story, like CB does on Thursdays that challenge you to try wines you wouldn't otherwise think to taste. We were confused by their wine list by the glass, so we settled on a bottle of a trusted red. The waiter offered another suggestion, which we also tried later and liked, but I wanted Belly to show me the possibilities and guide the way. I am sure that i will go back again but please consider this feedback moving forward!!!
Review Source:I didn't want to like Belly Wine Bar. Their website sucks ass. However, the food was delicious, the wine was adventurous & the service (Fanny) was absolutely terrific. They've only been open a short time, but there are so many things they're doing right. Once they add Vin Jeaune & something sweet to their by-the-glass list, these folks will be nailing it completely. Well worth a visit.
Review Source:Belly is a classic small plate/charcuterie spot with a great, if a little overpriced, wine selection. The salumi selection was excellent, especially when paired with the 5 cheese selection (tell them your style, and let the house choose). We opted to skip the glass pour selection because of the cost/glass, but found a number of options on the bottle list to be not only more approachable (our bottle was a wonderful French white for $30), but just as interesting in scope as the glass pours. Service was great, 3 of us sat at the bar, and our bartender/server was very kind, knowledgeable and not pushy by any means. I would definitely go back as a precursor to dinner somewhere else, or even as a fun evening of wine and snacks sans dinner plans.
Review Source:rudest people I have EVER come across. Especially the wine person. I guess she only cares about her  narrow minded oppinion and not what HER guest is looking for.
Food was ok[especially given it was their 1st night] but we were so "TURNED OFF" by MS. WINE!! that we will never return. too bad;the place has potential
Tweet sent at 1 A.M EST from Nicole V.: "@JillDanielle do you remember the time when you were vegetarian?" Â
My response, hungover from a party at the Hawthorne and one too many wines at Belly, 7:30 A.M EST: @CannoliColi: No, when was that...?
I've moved over to the dark side folks, the dark side of what I like to call, Cured Meat Addiction. And yes, Belly is here to feed my addiction. So myself and a couple friends dined in the newly redone space where Belly lives during opening night, and we we all had a fabulous time!
What's wonderful about Belly is that it fills a space for the ever so wonderful "Wine Bar" classification that Boston/Cambridge doesn't really have. It's casual, chic, and friendly, a place I would gather friends for samplings of delicious charcuterie, wine and long conversations, or meet a date for a "non-dinner" place. It's very obvious that Central Bottle is behind the mastermind of Belly, because the wine list is unique, and thoughtful. Diners can select between 2oz. or 4oz. pours for every wine on the glass list, and they have a very extensive bottle list as well. Our server kindly helped guide us to wines we would all like, and after 6 glasses, we were all happily tasting and sharing each other's.
Then came the charcuterie. Which seems to be the mastermind of the Blue Room right next door. We had the chef's sampling. From a sweet and savory rabbit terrine to smoky chicken liver mousse and tons of other little bites, we found ourselves slowly savoring every last bite from the cutting board. And especially coming from a previous vegetarian standpoint, I really enjoyed them all -- which is quite a feat! Each charcuterie was different from one another. Smoky, creamy, salty, sweet...it was nice to have such diverse flavors for the palate. The rest of the menu sounded really nice as well. From oysters to arugula, Belly had my idea of a night out. Wine and bites -- the best kind of meal.
And let's not forget about the actual space of Belly, because it's really quite gorgeous. I'm a sucker for aesthetically pleasing environments, and in Boston it's hard to find a place that mixes fancy and casual well. Belly did. Between a marble slab bar, industrial metal tables, and the original wooden ceiling, it felt more like a Wine Bar in Soho than Cambridge!
Now that I've been converted to the dark side, I don't even have to second guess if I'll be back or not, because I will!
