I went to the bar with six friends after a day at the beach. It was a 90 degree day out so we thought what a great day to sit on the deck and get a few frozen cocktails. We sat down and all ordered different drinks (a margarita on the rocks, a frozen strawberry margarita, a frozen blackberry margarita, the blueberry vodka with "homemade lemonade", the banana hammock drink, a red sangria, and a white sangria). It took a very long time to get all of the drinks. Once all of the drinks arrived we all took a sip and to say none of them were up to par would be an understatement. The blueberry lemonade tasted like water with a few blueberries in it. The red sangria tastes like watered down fruit juice, the frozen margaritas also tasted like juice barely frozen. The margarita on the rocks was pure sour mix and the other two drinks were just as bad. We waited for the waiter, James, to come back and check on us and our drinks and after waiting a very long time for him to come back, one of us decided to just go find him. We told him the issues and that none of the drinks were drinkable and that we wanted to send them back. Instead of taking the drinks back and remaking them, he returned to the table with two shots of tequila and simply just poured them into the two frozen margaritas, which leads me to believe that the bartender either didn't pour enough tequila the first time, or now the bar is over serving their alcohol. When asked about the remaining drinks he had no solution. He merely said its 100 degrees out obviously the drinks are going to be watered down from the bar to the table (our table was probably less than 15 feet from the bar....) We said we did not want to pay for these, he said well if you don't pay for them I will just have to pay for all of them...... Unprofessional much?..... We asked to speak with as manager, who was sitting a few tables over. We saw him go get her and tell her the story and could see her laughing right before coming over. I tried to explain our dissatisfaction with the drinks and the possible over serving of alcohol (which could cause the bar to lose their liquor license) and she could careless. She finally said that the only thing she could do was take the drinks off the bill, but not before trying to "compromise" and get us to pay for one drink. I was really excited for this bar to open on the strip it seemed like it was going to be such a great place to go after a day at the beach, but with the disgusting drinks and disgusting customer service, I have no intentions on returning to Bernie's. with competition like the sea ketch and the boardwalk, I don't see Bernie's lasting very long. My first suggestion would be to not go here..... But if you do I would stick with beer. It can't be that hard to open a beer bottle.
Review Source:The service there today was absolutely AWFUL! Â I tend to be very forgiving since I've had that job before....but this was TERRIBLE! Â We asked repeatedly for EVERYTHING. Â The server told us it was his second day but I consider it the manager's issue to ensure that all customers are taken care of. Â If he was truly overwhelmed, the manager should have either stepped in or sent him some help. Â Others with me said they were there a couple of weeks ago and had a great experience but they said today wasn't even worthy of $1 tip. Â Totally disappointed and definitely wouldn't go back!!! Â Other tables around us were complaining as well and several couldn't even get anyone to take their money. Â We were downstairs and shouldn't be snubbed just because we weren't on the deck on the upper level.
Review Source:Ick. Stopped by here for something to eat after seeing a show at the Casino Ballroom. The hostess sat us at an outside table quickly, but we waited a very long time for a server to see us even though it didn't seem busy in our section. Someone finally came over and took our drink order then returned later for our food order. We received our food long before our two simple drinks (I only had a soda, my boyfriend had a beer). I ordered a teriyaki steak and cheese which was loaded with sauce to the point of being inedible (and I like sauce). No thanks, Bernie's.
Review Source:While the concept is striking, the bar does not seem to be running on all cylinders. Granted, they opened recently, but is operated by the same management that runs "Wally's Pub" on Hampton Beach, so running a busy place is no stranger to them.
Bernie's states that they have the largest deck on the beach, don't be sucked in by this. With all the tables and the large bar taking up the room, there is absolutely no standing room on the deck if you don't want to wait for a table. And because of the umbrellas from all the tables in front of the bar, there is absolutely NO view of the water and beach from the deck. The only way you will have a view is if you seat in the first row of tables.
Bottom "deck" is even more boring, seeing as its just a slab of concrete outside on the street level.
Staff was rude, and incoherent. Especially the bartenders and hosts. Food was strictly "meh" Hastily made and poorly put together, I had to send it back twice because of cold fries! The server said something under her breath the second time I sent it back. Wasn't very appreciative of that.
Band was your run of the mill reggae cover band.
Drinks were good, they still serve beer in glass bottles, lets see how long that lasts.
Honestly as far as "decks" go for Hampton, I still prefer the Sea Ketch or Boardwalk. At least you have a variety of places to sit, inside or out.
This place just comes off as a tryhard, niche kind of place, and they are failing at that miserably. I would definitely come back, but probably not until next summer when they learn to enhance their guest service and food quality.
