Thanks to fellow Yelpers, my bf and I stumbled upon this hidden gem on our way back form Savannah. The buffet did not look too appealing to us, so we decided to order from the menu. Our server lady brought us two lovely rolls, which were consumed rather violently. They were warm, buttery, fluffy, slightly chewy, and intoxicatedly delicious. (What do they put into those rolls??!!) Because we ate them so fast, she offered to bring us more!
We ordered grilled shrimp and crab cakes with cheesy grits, fried green tomatoes, fried okras, and baked sweet potato. Our sweet server lady was attentive and made sure we had plenty of refreshing ice tea (unsweetened, of course!). From our table, we had a great view of the nearby lake completed with goose families.
Our food came out pretty fast, and it was fantastic! I was a bit shocked by the ratio of butter to baked sweet potato (almost 1:1), but everything tasted great. We were both surprised by the quality and quantity of the crab cakes. They were some of the best crab cakes I had a pleasure of eating. There was barely any filler in the cake.
We were hoping for some Georgia peach pie, but we were not so lucky. However, the lady told us to go get whatever the dessert we could find from the buffet table. We found an ice cream machine and some peach cobbler (with unfortunate canned peach). Since we got our dessert for free, I am not going to complain. I was just a bit disappointed because I bet they can make some fabulous pies if they want to.
In any event, I'd like to thank you Bevricks for being so sweet and hospitable!
Absolutely wonderful! Â If you are hungry this is what you want.
Do yourself a favor...STOP HERE AND EAT!!!! I'm greedy. My friends are greedy. Greedy people that like great food. I was coming back from Savannah on business and was starving. You know one of those days you say to yourself. " I WANT SOMETHING GOOD, but I don't know what that is"...God answers prayers.
It's a cute little unassuming restaurant. Has a great view by a little lake. But that's just the bonus. The FOOD IS WHY YOU COME HERE!! When you first walk in, the decor is  as if Golden Corral, Ponderosa  had a baby. The buffet looks cute, and the food looks like a regular buffet...BUT THIS is where it gets GOOD! The TASTE! The Fried Chicken, the little smoked sausage and onions like grandma made, the fresh cabbage, I could go on. My friend and I did. They even have FRESH HOT ROLLS!
True Story: My friend is about a size 4, one of those grown women that when you take her clothes out the dryer they look like "kiddie sizes". ...lol (I'm giving you the visual)
I saw her take down (with my own eyes) 3 Chicken Breast and 4 Hot Rolls in addition to the rest of the buffet.
She couldn't breathe when she left...she said "It's seeping out"...lol THAT'S how great this food was...you couldn't stop if you wanted to.
If you are on a diet. You will NOT be able to be strong at this establishment. The food is THAT GOOD!
"Southern Cooking" at it's finest!
A little knowledge for you. "Southern Cooking" and "Soul Food" are different. Yes, they are based upon the same fundamentals of foods EX: Fried Chicken, Greens, Yams, etc.
The difference is is the preparation and seasonings used.
This was the BEST SOUTHERN Cooking I have EVER HAD!!! Hands Down!
Bevricks is a good solid country cooking restaurant housed in an old Western Sizzlin' Â right off I-16 in Metter, GA and you know what they say "It's better in Metter!". This holds true for Bevricks as it is one of the better country cooking restaurants and buffets out there.
Traveling from Charleston to Middle Georgia quite often we like to stop by Bevricks for lunch. They have a nice sized buffet full of southern food and they also have a menu that you can order off of if you aren't in the mood to gorge yourself. I've had both  the buffet and ordered of the menu and have never been disappointed. My last visit we weren't real hungry so we split the Country Fried Steak off the menu; that thing was so big that even with 2 of us we had leftover. The steak was cooked just right; crispy breading on the outside with juicy steak on the inside, served up with a heaping of mashed potatoes and mixed veggies.
The service here too has always been great. The ladies that we have had serve us have always been very polite and attentive to our needs.
