I visited my mother this month and she took me and my brother to Bonefish to celebrate my birthday.

Bonefish Grill has always been a big family favorite of ours. The food and service  has always been excellent. So good that we all give my mother substantial gift cards for the holidays.

To say my birthday dinner was a disappointment would be an understatement. I ordered a petite filet medium rare. My mother, a crab cake and sirloin dinner.

When our meals came; my "filet" was "barely" 3/4 of an inch thick and medium. My mothers "sirloin" was "rare". The first bite of my "filet" was grisly. And, It wasn't a filet. We switched pieces of meat. They had switched the cuts on the order from the "same" bone. (Not exactly the "filet" expected from Bonefish.

The manager made it a point to come over to the table to tell me that they had something "special" for me because it was my birthday. Needless to say - I never received it. (Not really important to the issue.)

We have had "excellent" meals from Bonefish in this location for many years now. The service has always been exceptional and steaks so "mouth-watering" you could cut them with a fork. The staff has always been professional and knowledgeable.

I asked the waiter if my filet had been "butterflied". He assured me "no". He said this was how it comes. (Clearly a young teen who doesn't know what a filet looks like.)

A minute later the manager showed up. He tried to explain to me that the "filet" often comes this way. Seriously? Did I look like I just fell off a turnip truck? I am an exceptional cook.

To be fair. We went back a second time during my visit. I "didn't" order the filet. (I did however notice that the elderly woman at the next table evidently "did" receive her birthday surprise.)

After this visit. (I have to honest. I had been meaning to go by the restaurant for several days to complain about my birthday dinner. However, the afternoon weather just wouldn't permit it.) I was "still"  un-impressed with the meal and the service. You used to get 2 sides with a meal. Now; it's one side and an additional $.50 for another side. A friend paid $4.00 extra to get a vegetable side with an appetizer; which for Florida, I felt a little excessive.

My birthday experience had been stewing for days. Not the fact that the meal was bad; that they had tried to pull the wool over my eyes. Nor the fact that I never received my birthday surprise. Bottom line is - the place is now the "last" place I would pick of places I want to eat for the price.

On this visit. At the end of the meal I asked to speak to the manager. And, let me add one thing. On our first visit; We were out in front of the restaurant for several minutes after leaving. Someone who looked like an employee walked out - stared at us and threw his hands up in the air. (To my mind; I felt it was someone who had just been fired from the kitchen. However; no one came out of the restaurant to see us.)

To make a long story short. I did receive my mothers "gift card " money back for that first dinner as well as a free appetizer. However; "not" without having to repeat myself several times to this "manager" and his asking me what I wanted.
What I really want is good service, good food and someone in charge here again who "knows" how to run a restaurant and deal with customers.

Well, _____ (managers name). Well. I "am" yelping about this anyway. You "knew" very well that the first meal wasn't what it should have been. It would have been better to just tell me that you ran out of the filet cuts. However; to try and snow me with 2 pieces of meat from the same bone to me is just ridiculous.

Be it upper management or whomever. Be prepared to close this location down soon. Everything about it is substandard. And; the locals are saying so as well.

Sat at the bar and was very disappointed in the service on a Wednesday night at that ! I found the drinks to be overpriced and the food barely average. I will never return even with this being the absolute closest restaurant to our house (like 200 yards).

We haven't been here in probably 5 yrs.  Our main gripe was that the portions were too small for the bucks.  However, last night we decided to go.  We got a nice booth and ordered beers and some fried calamari. They both came out rapidly.  The calamari looked a little portion small but we devoured it.  A couple of minutes later the manager came to our table with a huge portion of calamari and apologized that the original order had been short changed.  We smiled and gobbled up the extra!  We also ordered the Caesar salad and were shocked that it was wonderful.  These days, every restaurant has their definition of a Caesar but Bonefish got it right.

For the main course we got the rainbow trout and the ahi tuna.  The trout was huge and so was the ahi!  The veggies were fresh. I got the au gratin potatoes that were cheesy decadence.  We struggled to finish all of our meals. We had polite, accommodating service.  The only gripe that I have and have always had with Bonefish is with their "slamming". I understand that they want  to flip tables as fast as they can, but really? (Note to reader:  Order one course at a time it you want a relaxed meal with your loved one!)

This place is in a really nice neighbourhood, so we thought we would give it a shot. It is in a row of shops, which is often where you find the hidden gems, and this is certainly one of those hidden gems.

Upon entry we were greeted very warmly, and seated, where we wanted promptly. I wanted to watch the baseball so we sat near the bar, but the noise levels weren't high. Perfect.

Our waiter was very friendly and recommended the mango salsa, so i tried it. We got talking and it turned out his wife was from England, and he talked to us for a while which is great, i like it when a waiter takes genuine interest in you instead of it being a ploy for a higher tip.

Starters arrived, the scallops were very nice, perfectly cooked, just wasn't keen on the bacon. American bacon just isn't the same haha. The Sashimi was nice but not the best I've had in this area, so i would choose differently next time on the starters.

The main courses arrived after a nice break. The grouper was wonderful and the mango sala accompanied it just great, the carrots (cant remember what glaze was on them) were also very tasty. The Fish and Chips were sensational, my friend had them and she could not stop raving about them. Good Fish and Chips coming from a brit is a good sign.

Overall a very nice place, great ambience and atmosphere. Next time im in the states i will be going here!

Great service! Not much of a wait; staffers came around to take drink orders from those waiting for tables. Lovely food, good prices. Just wish they'd put one of these in Dallas! Been to several "local" seafood places in the area and this is better.

I've eaten at this Bonefish about half a dozen times over the last 4 years (it was very close to where I lived) with various friends and family.  The food has always been consistently good, and the service prompt regardless of the size of the crowd.

As others mentioned, the Bang Bang Shrimp is worth trying for an appetizer.  While others in my parties have been more adventurous, I've usually had the grouper (often blackened) or grilled salmon, always with good results.

While there are a number of small, local, non-chain fish restaurants in Pinellas I prefer, Bonefish offers a nice place for a good meal entertaining small groups.

I come down to Florida 2 or 3 times a year to visit relatives, and always make sure I stop at Bone fish. The sashimi appetizer is amazing and the bang bang shrimp is out of this world.

I was so hoping for something different from the OSI chain, some originality, some really exciting fish on the menu but it just didn't happen. First thing we had was the Bang Bang shrimp, which they advertised heavily. They were really good! They had 5 fish selections and 2 specials to choose from, only 2 were wild caught which means 3 were farm raised on the regular menu and both were wild caught on the specials. The salmon, tilapia and trout all farm raised. 2 of the selections are so over fished they're almost unsustainable Chilean sea bass and wild caught grouper. I know it's Florida and we have to have grouper on our menus down here but when are these restaurants going to remove Chilean sea bass?. The bread and oilive oil pesto are straight from Carrabbas another Outback restaurant. I had a special which was swordfish with sauted spinach and a melted blue cheese with bacon. It was pretty darn good. Cooked perfectly, nice portion and the price was right. My date had the ahi tuna and they were so kind to cook it about medium which most restaurants don't like to do. Dessert was a chocolate creme brule' with a splash of grand marnier. Tasted good but more like chocolate pudding then creme brule but it was still good. All in all the restaurant is solid with good service, good food and family friendly prices. I hope they change their fish selection and get some more wild caught sustainable fish on there. The Bang Bang shrimp really are banging !!
Ok I'm going to ammend my review. We went back last night but sat at the bar and had a blast. Turns out the bar was full of Bellaire locals and made the restaurant lots of fun. I love to schmooze at a bar and this one is extremely friendly. My date had the special monk fish which was excellent andf I had the Bang Bang shrimp tacos with homeade potato chips. The chips were awesome and I'm sure I could sit there and just order those they were sooooo good. The Bang Bang shrimp tacos, you get 2, were really good and hit the spot with a really cold Stella Artois. The bartenders were lots of fun too. So we sat there and met lots of locals had a great time talking and eating some decent bar food all while watching the Rays play on TV. It doesn't get much better than that. When we go back again I'm going to the bar because that's where all the fun is!! Rating went from 3 to 4 stars!!

The food was pretty good, but the real reason to visit is to look for HULK HOGAN.

It's his favorite restaurant, no joke.  Our waitress said that he visits a few times a week, usually right before closing.

If you don't know who the Hulkster is - look for the tall, big guy, with the bleached-blonde goatee and a bandanna.

A single location opened in St. Petersburg six years ago has evolved into a partnership with Outback and a rapidly-growing chain dominant in the East and slowing wending its way into the Midwest and beyond. Aside from a handful of pork, beef, and chicken options, the primary focus is on seafood presented in a mix-and-match format, allowing diners to select from eight fish and four sauces. Our dinner started with promise - a bowl of creamy corn chowder was dense with fresh lump crabmeat, and an interesting twist on the classic Cobb salad combined very spicy jerk chicken, avocado, mango, tomatoes, Danish Blue cheese, and pine nuts on a bed of crisp greens drizzled with a citrus-herb vinaigrette. Unfortunately, our entrees failed to meet our expectations. The mango salsa topping gulf grouper was cloyingly sweet, the cream sauce with roasted garlic and sundried tomatoes served with salmon was corrupted by an overdose of lime, and both pieces of fish had spent a few minutes too many on the grill. Very dry rice had flecks of almonds, raisins, and red peppers, but no discernible seasoning; far more successful were potatoes au gratin, overwhelmingly cheesey (in a good way) and topped with a layer of crunchy bread crumbs. The meal ended, as it had begun, on a high note - sinfully rich chocolate-macadamia brownie cake, smothered with raspberry sauce and fresh whipped cream, was paired with a generous dollop of vanilla ice cream. The serving, more than enough for two to share, was comped in response to our disappointment with the main course (we were offered after-dinner liqueurs, as well, which we declined) - kudos to the waitress for relaying our feelings to the manager, and to him for responding as he did. The gracious gesture - and delectable starters and dessert - resulted in an extra star and a probable return visit.
