This place is in the heart of Amish country in Holmes County. The restaurant seems to have two mottoes:
1) "The best home cooking since 1938"; and
2) "Where the locals eat."
Berlin is a small town, but hustling, bustling & busy. We toured Holmes County and Berlin is clearly where the action is.
We chose this place to eat lunch because there was actually a line out front waiting to get in.We joined the line, but it moved quickly and soon we were seated. The extensive menu is printed on the place mat with specials written upon a board.
Between the two of us, we shared the Swiss steak with mashed potatoes & carrots, a special, and the fresh salad bowl special. Both were fine. For dessert we had the date pudding, which is apparently one of the house specialties, and it was terrific, even if we did have to spoon off the huge over supply of cool whip on top of it. It was the best part of the meal.
This place is essentially a diner, with diner prices and diner food in ample portions, and it is indeed popular with the locals.
