I could give this anywhere from a 5 to a 1 star--my experience at the Brick Farm Market has been extremely bi-polar.
My first experience (during "Cruise Night" a few weeks back) was amazing. Great juices and my wife raved about her sandwich (I think it was a pulled pork?), but then we went back...
I had a super dry veggie sandwich (arugula and the like) and my wife's burger was basically raw in the middle (she asked for medium-well). We've both worked extensively in the food services and are always very hesitant to send food back, but it was either send it back or throw it away. However, we had to send it back TWICE and they failed every time--still raw inside. Gross. She threw it out. Bad, bad service, dudes. No apologies or anything.
We did NOT give up on the Brick Farm Market! We're very supportive of their approach to serving food and there's really nothing like it anywhere around here. It's like a food mall in there, but with (mostly) good stuff to eat everywhere. In fact, we've attempted to eat at the Brick Farm Market THREE TIMES, but they are always CLOSED! Last Thursday we thought we had finally figured out their schedule, but (as with the other two times) they were closed. You can see on their sign that they had removed the "Thursday" from their days of operation.
C'mon Brick Farm Market, get your act together and make this work. You've heard the adage about unhappy customers I'm sure? Well, this is my very first Yelp review of anything and it's mostly negative. Help me change my mind. Keep it open more than three days a week and never put out bad food.
Cannot believe I did not know about this place before! Its a produce/diary/organic grocery shop/restaurant all in one. I didn't eat much of the deli or made to order food but the coffee and juice was delicious! I also bought homemade bread and it was spectacular. Told me that they are working on opening a diary section within a year
Review Source:This is a great new business to the area this was their 10th weekend and they are building a bakery out back. They plan on expanding choices and are carefully growing. Highly recommend this market!
The prepared food is excellent, the black bean soup and patty pan squash that is stuffed is awesome! they are building a bakery in the back and soon will be open 6 days a week not just weekends, BUY LOCAL and support our local agricultural markets. All items local and the cheeses are wonderful also!
Stopped here yesterday and had sandwiches outside at one of the umbrella tables. My brie, apple, honey and turkey sandwich was superb and my husband gave a thumbs up to his Cuban sandwich, which he said was almost as good as the ones at his favorite Cuban restaurant, Martino's in Somerville.
The cole slaw that was served as a side with our sandwiches was very good too, and ordinarily I'm not a huge cole slaw fan.
The chocolate croissants were sold out (bummer) but my almond pastry made up for the disappointment with just the right mixture of flaky crust and smooth almond paste filling.
The place was packed and it was a little hard to maneuver inside with a tray holding our plates but that was the only downside. I would have liked to have browsed a bit more and gotten a good look around but I decided my main priority was to get our food outside without bumping into someone and spilling everything on the floor.
A lady who makes chocolates was displaying her wares on a table near the front. She noticed me eyeing the dark chocolate roasted almond bars and offered me a sample. Let me tell you people, chocolate from Donna Tuscana of Kenilworth is very, very good. I bought a bar and later wished I'd bought more.
We rounded off our meal with iced coffee for me (high points on the iced coffee, BTW) and a Saratoga water for my husband. The outdoor seating was comfortable and was a good choice for people like ourselves with a well-behaved dog in tow.
Several of the other diners were accompanied by small children, none of whom attempted to fling themselves into the path of oncoming traffic on E. Broad Street, so I'm not sure why another commenter thought it would be expedient for the owners of the market to erect a fence. If one has offspring who are inclined to dash into roadways it would probably be best to eat inside or take their meals to go, but that's just my opinion.
Summing it up, Brick Farm Market is now one of my favorite eating places in Howell, right up there with Nomad Pizza, Brothers Moon and the Blue Bottle. Someone spent a sizeable sum on renovating the old car dealership and the results are brilliant. I'll be back to see what the juice bar has to offer, and to try the cheese, and maybe buy some of the handmade soaps.
This is an excellent local business to support! Â Everything is raised and grown locally. Â I picked up a variety of the cheeses, cured meats, pastries, and breads for a picnic. Â We loved all of it, everything was super fresh and something you won't find at the local grocery store. Â We will definitely be back!
Review Source:Beautiful faux-industrial interior, and everything is very fresh. The help is super-nice and they know what they are doing, but the food is bland overall. I've been there three times and had three different meals: The open face beef sandwich with rosemary was by far the best. It has plenty of flavor and texture. Next I had the cold roast beef with horseradish cremu  and it was bland. Yes, the beef tasted delicious, but since it's only beef and bread, I would have liked to taste the horseradish, and I couldn't--there was very little of it dabbed on the bread. I would have rather just had some actual horseradish on the sandwich, or on the side so I could really load it on. Last I had the Italian sandwich, which was very fresh cheese, meat and lettuce on white bread. It was all very good, but dry as a bone and no seasoning. Maybe they neglected to ask me if I wanted some seasoning? Oil and vinegar, oregano, all would have been nice. Maybe they will get enough feedback to start loading on the seasonings.
Review Source:Just beautiful! They did a fantastic job refurbishing the Old Malek Chevrolet building. Heavy doors, metal and wood everywhere. Lots of money. I went looking for fresh produce, but of course it is not the season yet, so will wait and see what the farm produces. They do have fresh herbs available. Â Everyone is friendly, things are a tad expensive. The farm raised meats (beef, lamb, pork, sausages, bacon etc.) look fresh and so far the bulk of my purchases. I had the pulled pork the first weekend they opened and thought I had died and gone to heaven. Now it's more barbecue sauce than pulled pork, disappointing! Â They have a cheese cellar, baked goods (no gluten free?) a kitchen and a fresh juice bar. Prepared foods, sandwiches and meals are available, Seating upstairs and down, and outside on nice days. This place will have a learning curve to manage with it's wonderful new concept. Â Please, not another Bon Appetit! Â Much success!
Review Source:I thought it was a market and therefore expected lots of green, veggies and fruits. this is not the case. it's a lot of prepared food as there's a place to sit which is great, but was looking forward to buying some good local produce. Â the breakfast menu needs to be expanding and they would be smart to add a kids menu with the basics like a short stack of pancakes, french toast and scrambled eggs/bacon. Â their breakfast sandwich lacked seasoning and we ordered 5 of them. We all had the same complaint - not enough seasoning. Â Surprisingly, the baked good were the best - croissants, chocolate croissants, cakes etc...Their linzer cookie was delicious. It would also be nice if they had a little white fence outside their outdoor seating for kids. The market is right on the main road and I bet parents would be flocking to their spot if they felt their kids would not run out into the middle. Â This is a good addition to Hopewell, NJ and I am sure they will figure out as they go along.
