Disappointed... Â very Disappointed. Â I've taken clients and family to this restaurant on several occasions over the past couple of years. Â So I'm trying to give this place a fair shake. Â Each time I visit I experience the same problems. Â Number one is SLOW SERVICE!!! Â I've even sat at the bar and waited 5- 10 minutes for a beer. Â And the place was not crowded!!! Â
Recently took my wife and son there and the BBC failed me again. Â I ordered their Gin and Tonic special. Â It took over 15 minutes for it to arrive at my table and you could barely taste the Gin. Â I returned it for a coke. Â The place was about half full and mostly people sitting at tables. Â The Bar was probably 25% occupied. Â So not busy and it took them over 15 minutes to mix two Gin and Tonic's incorrectly. Â So I watched the bar staff from where I sat. Â They mostly talked, washed glasses and placed food orders. Â There was no emphasis on the customers sitting at the bar!!! Â
The wait staff is slow, confused and could care less. Â We did ask to speak to the manager and he was useless. Â He took the appetizer off the bill to which I told him he didn't need to do that. Â I liked the appetizer and don't mind paying for good food. Â I actually liked the salad that I ordered. Â It was the service and VERY SLOW bar. Â
Like I said, I've experienced this before. Â I really tried to give this place a chance... Â not any more!
Went there again recently on an earlier weekend night. The better place to sit with families is the area right behind the hostess stand where there are more tables with chairs (vs. booths that are difficult for those who need highchairs). Wanted to note they have a decent gluten-free menu and a kid's menu. The pot roast dinner was so-so, sheperd's pie was a little better.
Review Source:3rd visit, I wasn't overly impressed after my last experience, but I figured I'd give it another go. Â We arrived on a Monday evening at 7pm, it was a gorgeous evening so we wanted to sit out on the patio. Â We were told there was a 20 minute wait, which was no problem, except for the fact that 1/2 the tables were empty, but dirty. Â We waited, and were greeted by a sweet waitress who took out drink order immediately (they were out of bud light) she promptly asked to take our order, and I asked for a moment to look over the menu. Â She returned another 2 times within the next 5 minutes to take our order, and when we hadn't yet decided (she was clearly in a hurry to end her shift) she came over to transfer our bill to another server who would be right over with us. Â An HOUR later, and no server ever showed up, so I went inside to let the hostess know, no hostess was at the door, so I found the bartender and informed them. Â At this time, we just decided to just head elsewhere, I want to love this place for the atmosphere and beer selection, but no one ever seems to be in charge, much less care. Â Sorry, but 3 strikes and your out.
Review Source:Went here a few times with friends. Â What a great place. Â The whole restaurant really has a good english pub vibe going for it and the food is outstanding.
I recommend the fish and chips if you want a slab of fish that hangs over the edge of the plate. Â You won't leave this place hungry.
The appetizers are very good here. The nachos with chili and the chicken wings are excellent as well as the french onion soup. Daughter loved the pogwich (now off the menu). The meals are generally good. If i could give a separate rating for take-out it would be  one star. OVER 50% of our take out orders had an error in them. We resorted to checking every order in the parking lot before leaving. Once they refused to correct an error without the receipt! I was so angry that I went all the way home to get it..
Review Source:Horrible service at the front door. Had to sit for 20 minutes listening to the two hostesses talk about going on dates and the guys they liked, very very unprofessional. Then 10 minutes after we walked in these kids walk in that happen to be who they were talking about got seated before us. Waitress was awesome once inside. Â Food good as well.
Review Source:THUMBS UP = Vast selection of draft beer. Dining area has unusual and antique pieces that makes the setting unique.
THUMBS DOWN = The special beers are listed on a  board as you walk in, but they were out of several of the beers - no one seemed to bother to remove them from the board. Service is horrible. Staff seems uninterested in ensuring customers have a positive experience. Food is fair.
I've been here a handful of times with the guys and they have a good beer selection and decent food menu. The menu did change from a year ago. They use to sell these amazing ribs, but they are no longer on the menu. The Korean BBQ pork on the appetizer list was decent, but the wings are a gamble as the ones we got were in the freezer too long and not thawed well. You can tell by the texture of the chicken meat... bourbon sauce was tasty though.
The most recent visit was for Monday night football and there was a good crowd there for most of the game. Flat screens are decently located at certain parts of the room as well as the bar for ease of viewing. The atmosphere is loud, but as the place clears out, make sure to adjust the volume of your conversation because if you are found having too much loud fun, you're assumed to be intoxicated and will be shut off... (3 drinks/per in 4 hours with food, I had 2).
The booths are very tight and the table top is low... so low that my heavier set (trying to be nice just in case he reads this) buddy had support for his belly. Better to get a non-booth if you want elbow room and belly room.
The service is ok. Â I actually had the same server the last 2 visits. She was slow and no where to be seen when we needed to order the first of the 2 visits. This last time she was more attentive, maybe because it was slower.
You'll have a better chance of getting seated in a timely manner during the weekdays than the weekends. For those that rated low because they had to wait a long time because it was busy is kind of lame.
Men's restroom was clean and filled it's purpose (trust me, ones that don't exist)... nice that they put a trash bin next to the door for those that like to use the towel as a hand shield on the door handle.
The parking lot is big, but when it gets crowded, you will have problems finding a spot. Be careful trying to pull into the parking lot. Heading west on 110, the BBC is on the right side, you can easily make a right turn into the parking lot, but if you are heading East, the entrance is at the McD's set of lights. You cannot turn left into the entrance that you can go into from the West. There are red and blues occasionally watching.
I'd go back, but probably not for a while... the mood dampener on our last visit didn't sit well with us.
We stopped in here on our way up to Maine for the annual summer visit. As you can see from my pictures, the place had some good offerings. The onion soup (made with Guinness!) was amazing! We shared a sandwich to save money. (See my husband Sam S.'s review)
I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it was definitely the sweetest possible definition of BBQ pulled pork. The side dish was ordered just for my husband. Helpful Tip: The extensive drinks menu doesn't really note the size of many imports. ASK, because they get quite big!
Have been here a few times with out any complaints. Went on a recent Saturday and the bartender was terrible. He did not stop his conversation with another employee for 5 minutes to go take care of customers. Id think with there plentiful beer selection a beer menu would have been helpfull before asking me what I wanted. After my beer arrived I waited 20 minutes for bartender to offer me a  menu, it never happened, I felt ignored by bartender. I will go back but probably gonna leave if I see this perticular bartender.
Review Source:Stopped in this location twice in the past month on return trips from northern New England. Both times enjoyed the great beer selection and friendly competent service. The food is good, standard pub grub with some more unusual choices.
We were a party of eight with one little kid. Sometimes (many times actually) places can't handle a party of this size without lots of difficulty but our waitress was on the ball. Drinks came fairly fast, were correct, and the same for the food. I am a big fan of their panko-coated deep-fried green beans. Really, try them.
We all liked our meals, without any mistakes both visits. The decor is really cool, appropriate to what you'd expect. Cleanliness was pretty good too. And did I mention the beer? Outstanding selection of beers, with a heavy focus on Great Britain, of course. Now if they'd only open a BBC in South County, RI.
This is one awesome pub. The burgers are out of this world and all beers in the enormous library are served at the perfect temperature for the specific brew. I returned several times during a three day stay in Westford.
Back again a year later. Â The burgers are still great and the beer is still served at the right temperature. This is a boisterous, busy place with a customer base that skews young, but there were enough white heads (other than mine) so I didn't feel at all out of place. I only made it back once this year, but I'm glad I did.
Been here many many times. The quesadillas are great, as is the Wensleydale chicken and pear salad. The buffalo fingers, nachos, and steak tips are all good but not great. The gourmet grilled cheese is interesting and pretty flavorful. The potato skins are good, and the pizzas are overall quite good. The fish sandwich is below average.
Overall, I'd say the food is slightly above average. The prices are above average, too. The beer menu is extensive and there are a lot of great selections on tap. The atmosphere is also quite lively. It does not feel anything like a real pub, but it has a nice British-inspired tavern feel, and they have live music on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. Sometimes it's good, other times it's terrible.
This is one of those "consistently good but not great" places, if you know what to order. I've been many times and will keep going back, but it is on the expensive side and the food isn't outstanding.
My wife and I shared the BBQ Pulled Pork Poggwich ($9.99) with a side of Bubbles & Squeak ($2.00 extra -- sandwiches include a pickle  and your choice of side, though a couple of the sides cost a little bit extra). The sandwich was very large as was the portioning of our side, though it's possible they actually didn't split our side but gave us a full side portion with each half of the sandwich. Nevertheless, it was plenty food for both of us.
This Bubbles & Squeak thing, which sounds like something a witch might brew, consists of cheddar mashed potatoes, cabbage, bacon, and tasted pretty good. But my wife doesn't like cabbage, so I ate her side anyway and she ordered a Stout Onion Soup ($5.99), the kicker of which is that it is made with Guiness! She loved it. Tied for her favorite onion soup, she says.
As for our sandwich, our opinions differ. We both enjoyed it, but I thought it was far too sweet. My wife thought it was "the sweetest possible definition of BBQ...the meat was definitely tender" and I think liked it more than I did. She says I'd probably prefer something with more spice, bite, and smoke to it.
We'd considered getting just the sandwich and a side and an extra side, but it wasn't clear how to do that or how much it might cost. Neither are there any prices on the dessert menu, always a potentially dangerous sign.
The drinks selection is enormous, with a drinks menu several tall pages long (labeled "Fluids") PLUS weekly specials. Too many to choose from, even. My wife got one of her go-to drinks, a Magner's Cider. I wanted to try something I'd never had and got a Samuel Smith's Organic Ale. Enormous bottle (for a lightweight like me). Should have looked at how large it would be, it was probably printed on the menu. Good thing my wife was driving.
Our server was pretty good, perhaps even too excited and happy. My wife referred to her as a "happy helper elf." That's not a bad thing.
Overall, we had a nice time, but it was rather pricey. One sandwich, extra for the side, a soup, and two drinks = $34 before tip? Yeeesh. Also -- no lunch specials?C'moonn.
Meh... I have visited this place twice now, once sit down, once for takeout. Â The one in downtown Hyannis is far better in just about every way.
Our sit down experience: we went at an off hour so there wasn't a wait to get in, although I have heard that it can be hard to even get near during peak hours (not sure if that is still true but it was in the past). Â My friend and I both ordered starter salads and then our meals. Â It took an unreasonably long time for the starter salads to arrive, to the point where I assumed the waitress had forgotten about them. Â Then they arrived, and we were maybe two or three bites into said salads and our entrees were at our table. Â I know it happens sometimes, but that really ruins the pacing and enjoyment of the meal. Â And the food was mediocre; the salad wasn't as fresh as it could have been and honestly I don't even remember what my main meal was. Â I just remember that it was barely what you would consider warm.
Our takeout experience: Â we called in some salads, fried pickles, and burgers. Â When we arrived it took them like 15 minutes to locate our food and by the time we got it home it was cold. Â The fried pickles were whole pickle spears coated in breadcrumbs and fried, which is more gross than appetizing. Â
For some reason the hubby keeps wanting to go back. Â He's a bigger beer aficionado and it's close to our apartment, so I think that's why. Â Either that or he's remembering the better meals he's had at the Hyannis version. Â There are better food options nearby.
I love it when people go to a pub and don't understand that it's a pub. A pub is a gathering place. No it it not fine dining, classical music will NOT be played, Â and the volume of people should be like a stadium. So I hope your not walking into the British Beer Company to be confused with Legal Seafood. Ok now that we have that out of the way...
This place gets very crowded and stays that way. Call ahead if you have more than 3 people wanting a table. The beer is a plenty and try something different; Pasty for dinner and a local micro brew should do you right.
I had wanted to try the BBC for quite some time, and I was very disappointed. My friend and I went there to get a boiled dinner on St. Patrick's Day and to see what they offered for British beers. The two stars are for the beer selection. My friend tried a banana bread flavored beer and thought it was outstanding and very different.
It should be easy to make a boiled dinner, however, we had a bad feeling when we asked at the door and it took 4 tries to confirm that they did serve corned beef. I ordered the boiled dinner and my friend ordered the meat pies. His food was fine- nothing to write home about, but okay. My boiled dinner was horrible. The meat was extremely dry. The cabbage tasted like lettuce. The carrots were crispy. Only the potatoes tasted boiled. I'm not sure they understood the whole "boiled" concept. We ended up taking it home and finding another restaurant a few hours later to have a real boiled dinner.
Our waitress was okay. The place was busy and she didn't check in much with us, which is okay with me. It was pretty noisy in there with lots of kids which I found unexpected. I didn't feel like they had a huge selection of real British foods. For example, their bubbles and squeak was prepared with bacon and crispy cabbage. I've never seen it anywhere (including England) served with bacon. Many of the food items were American dishes.
Would I go again? Sadly, no. My friend would go to try the beers, but that's about it. I'd prefer to find a real British themed pub over this obvious franchise restaurant any day.
We visited the local chapter of the burgeoning BBC chain last weekend for a late lunch. Â It's a hard building to miss- I'm fairly certain it's the only mustard yellow building on Rt. 110.
BBC seems to have two different concepts- a pub model that has a full lunch/dinner menu (Walpole, Cedarville) and a bar model that has no to minimal food (downtown Plymouth, the new location in Bristol, RI). Â The Westford location is a the former.
Although our party included an infant and a pre-schooler, we were ushered to a long table near a window after just a few minute wait. Â
The dining room is replete with dark wood, brass, muted color schemes and a few accents that speak to American conceptions of what UK pub life is all about.
The bar occupies the center of the room and looks to be one of the more comfortable spots in town to spend an afternoon knocking back a few pints with friends and/or watching a sporting event.
Service was friendly but a bit preoccupied, with our server forgetting one of the kids' milk several times and a my request for honey mustard with my house-made veggie burger.
Sandwiches are available with a selection of sides, some costing an additional dollar or two. Â Portions are modest but high quality and the battered onion rings are fantastic. Â
Beer selection is concise but strong, with US selections on the right and UK on the left, with both available in either an American pint (16 oz.) or a British/Imperial pint (20 oz.). Â I enjoyed a Mayflower IPA and a Berkshire Brewing Company (aka the other BBC) Cabin Fever. Â Good stuff.
I'll be back to try the mac and cheese and the pizza!!!
2.5 stars. Perfectly average.
We managed to be seated on a Sunday night after a ten-minute wait, which is apparently very short here. The place has a great beer menu, but the food menu is kind of a catch-all of pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, and other meals you can find at otherr chains. I was eyeing the mac and cheese until BF's dad told me that it wasn't good, so I went with a burger with gouda and carmelized onions. The burger was good, but the gouda was unnoticeable. Seriously--I lifted the bun off the burger to see if it was there and had to move the onions to see the tiniest, thinnest slice of cheese ever on a sandwich. I think it goes without saying that I couldn't taste it, so I wondered why I wasted the calories or the extra charge for this topping. I had to eat my burger with a knife and fork because it was an absolute mess; a mildly tasty mess, yes, but still. The sweet potato fries were all right.
I'd much rather go to Coat of Arms in Portsmouth. The food is much better, it's not much more expensive, and it's more British (this may sound like a paradox, but I promise it's not).
I ate lunch here a couple months ago with some coworkers. Â We were seated at a high table and felt very cramped, so it was not the most comfortable dining experience. Â Menu is decent and has a good variety of options. Â I had the Sweet Chili Salmon which wasn't bad, and the portion was pretty good for lunch. Â Others had burgers which they seemed to enjoy. Â Another coworker said the quesadilla was awful. Â
Service was OK - they handled the 9 of us during the busy lunch hour fairly well. Â Two of us were waiting for our food for about 5 minutes while everyone else had received theirs, but that seems to be the norm when you are dealing with larger groups.
Overall I wasn't super impressed - wouldn't rush back but wouldn't write it off either. Â The draw here is obviously the beer (which holds no interest for me), so the food is on-the-whole average. Â Still, I wouldn't mind stopping in again for lunch to try something else off the menu.
Sorry, not a fan. Â Waited forever while 5, yes 5 people manned the reservation desk, fiddling around and not taking care of business. Â Made me want to put my organizational skills to use!
Finally seated, then forgotten while the server ran around frantically taking care of her tables. Â She was great, but clearly, this restaurant was not laid out with any efficiency in mind.
The chips arrived, cold but good. Â Long lapses between drinks and main courses. Â Plenty of food, just nothing special. Â The restaurant was so noisy that conversation became impossible. Â Formula chain I'm afraid.
Had hoped for something better.
Just looking for a quick bite because it was getting late and we weren't home, we decided on British Beer Company, which Mr K has visited before during a "big game." This place was formerly Applebees. It was 8:30 on a weekday and it was packed. The wait was 45 min (wasn't going to happen) so we opted to sit at the bar.
Tons of different beers, anything you could possibly think of, except for Double Diamond, which I enjoyed at the pubs in London. Will preface this by saying I do not enjoy drinking beer and haven't had any since I hitchhiked thru Europe when I graduated college. However, if they had Double Diamond, I would have had some for old time's sake. When I got home, I checked to see if that brand is still brewed, and it's not (stopped in 2003). Ok. Can't blame the BBC then.
We split an 18-inch vegetable pizza with a thin crust (except for the edge), broccoli (we had them omit the broccoli), roasted red peppers, olives, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, and red sauce. The pie could have been cooked about 2 minutes longer, as it wasn't that crusty underneath. So much to eat, that we brought home half and froze it for next week. Service was quick and the waiter/bartender was friendly.
Lots of TVs. Perfect for bar food and hanging out with a bunch of friends, but don't expect quiet.
I haven't really had any issues with service or food the few times I've been there, but then again, we try to avoid the place on peak nights. Â I've been by there on a Friday or Saturday and was told to expect at least a 45 minute wait, which is fine for a really amazing place, but given that this is a chain, no thanks.
I do love the selection of beer there, so that's always a plus.
It was my first time here today. Â They have a great beer selection. Â I had an old favorite Old Speckled Hen. Â My husband and I sat at the bar and had a few pints and shared a massive order of nachoes.
The interior is defiantly Disney'esq. Â I've been to pubs in England and the only ones that look like this place are the ones in the Hotels.
I've read all the other posts and am glad i sat at the bar. Â One couple walked out (keep in mind it was 4:30pm on a Sunday.. it was dead) and another actually had to leave her table to go over to the hostess stand and find her waitress and ask her to take the order. (there was only about 4 tables of patrons in the WHOLE place)
On my way out there was 2 guys and the hostess at the entrance flirting over the top. Â They hardly noticed anyone was there.
As we left we had to walk around 3 more employees as they stood around outside talking and flirting and smoking.
My suggestion to the management.. Fire all the left over applebee employees. Â Hire a few adults, people who take pride in their work and are happy to be there.
Had "dinner" there saturday....Have to say the app's and the beer were better than the food, although the food was what you could expect at a place  like this.
I think the beer selection was definitely a winner though, several pages on the menu and the 20 oz glass was just the right size.
Prices were reasonable, service OK for place like this. Definitely one step up from the TGI Friday's, Appleby's and Outbacks....
Finally got in after trying several times and being told the wait would be an hour. Given the popularity, I was really hoping it would be better.
Exactly the same class as 99/Chili's/Applebee's. Mostly decent family-friendly dining with pre-prepped food. I appreciate that they offer some items that are a little different (I had the veggie pasty), but they're not done really well. My pasty was bland with a soggy crust. And the house salad I ordered had a dead bug in it from lettuce that hadn't been thoroughly washed.
My family doesn't drink beer, so I can't comment on that aspect.
There are too many other restaurants in the area the same class that are much less crowded to make it worth going back.
Despite an excellent beer selection for the area, and some merely okay food, I have to give this place two stars because of the service. It was almost so bad, we felt as though we were being set up for a prank tv  show.
Our waitress took our drink order and then turned to rush away. I had to call after her, telling her we wanted to order food as well. So, she took my order and then ran away while everyone else at the table sat there stunned since she didn't ask what they wanted. The rest of the night, we had to chase her down if we wanted another round.
When someone in our party asked that potatoes not be included in his dish, our waitress rolled her eyes at him. Not in a joking way, but in an annoyed way. The same person ordered a salad without dressing or croutons. Of course, the salad came out with dressing and croutons. We didn't bother to send it back because we knew it was going to be a nuisance to get the attention of the staff.
I ordered the bourbon chicken wings. Small portion, but they were okay. Crispy and not oversauced. I had pints of Rogue Dead Guy and Mayflower IPA - on a positive note, I'm happy that they're serving local crafts beers such as the Mayflower.
Sad but true...I really wanted to like this place better. Having been here on multiple occasions, I can now tell you consistent "blech" is the order of the day.
The good points, lots of beer taps - though, there are plenty of honest places around that are much more diverse and provide better value in this category...this is the only strong point of the BBC.
Oh, I did happen to catch a live music act here, and that was really great, especially considering we're in the veritable gulag of live music culture in Westford here, it's one great thing about this place...but, as with all things here, this silver lining has a cloud too - the band didn't start playing until after 11pm, which would not be terrible except the place closes down at 12:30 - wtf?
Ok, the rest, the food, while digestible and not composed of any "bad", spoiled or rotten elements was completely lacking. Bland, overly salty, overly fatty, and all pre-processed gunk spews forth from the deep fryers and grill. With this preponderance of crap, one wonders why the place is packed...perhaps the disney-esque British Bull brings 'em in, but, let's see, there are plenty of pub joints with more honest food available, hell, even right across the street. The menu is as disappointing as the execution of the items ordered.
So, you ask, must be the waitstaff that is good, right? Umm, well, if you like waiting for a drink while one of three/four bartenders in a packed bar jaw with their buddies or each other, ignoring the thirsty masses, then this will be an awesome experience for you. Of course, this, and the lousy menu will not change, as one can barely get in the door - I guess again speaking to the gulag nature of the area (I guess it's a culinary one as well).
I'd be willing to suffer the crowd, suffer the excessive wait for a beverage, if this were in any way worth it, but food wise, never again and beer wise, it gets a lukewarm maybe. I really wanted to like this place...
Excellent beer selection! We usually come by on weekday evenings. The dress code is lax which is a must for us. The beer comes quickly and the service is consistent.
That being said, I have 2 minor complaints. The wait can get tiresome. This can be planned around. I understand that taking reservations would be painful to the bottom line so there really isn't too much they can do.
The 2nd is that the men's restroom doesn't have nearly enough stalls... You almost always have to wait.
The beer selection makes up for all this IMO.
