I have been here twice now and the food was excellent both times. Bread is good, house salad is good and shrimp scampi is perfect (not too buttery or garlicky, lots of flavor). My husband loves the veal. Service can be a little hit or miss but the food comes out fast.
Last time I was here, our server made an excellent cocktail recommendation that was not on the menu: the Peacock's tail (gin, St Germaine, mint, etc.). Lovely. My only complaint is the price: we had a $50 groupon and still ended up paying almost $100 for two, including tip (2 drinks each). I'd expect these prices in Boston, but this place is in a shopping center by the railroad tracks. Other than that, it's a great place for a bite! Another plus is that they did not give me an attitude about the groupon.
3 1/2 stars, but I don't round up.
A group of five of us went here for dinner on a weekday. Â This place is pretty pricy, but overall the food is really good. Â Utilizing a Groupon saved us a bunch of money and made this place worth it.
We started with two appetizers, mussels which were good and the calamari which was very average. Â We also got the anti-pasta which quite good. Â Two baskets of warm bread completed the pre-main course. Â We purposefully got five different dishes. Â I got the butternut squash ravioli topped with shrimp which was interesting but a bit non-sequitur. Â Other dishes ordered included a tilapia special, seafood risotto, seafood milano, and the wild mushroom risotto. Â Of these, the seafood milano had the best flavor. Â We all finished our food and even squeezed in a tasty chocolate cannoli that we all shared.
The place was relatively empty, which was a bit of a surprise.
My husband and I live right around the corner from this place and we'd been curious about it, so when a Groupon popped up, we bought it and came here for dinner.
I ordered two appetizers as my meal; unfortunately, the server didn't let me finish telling him that and one came out as an appetizer, the other when my husband got his dinner. I ordered the mussels and the zucchini-tomato napoleon, and my husband got the salmon in lemon-dill sauce.
The mussels were outstanding. I ordered them in the spicy fra diavolo sauce, and they were seriously very, very good. They weren't served with any kind of bread, which was disappointing, but I just had them with the bread from the bread basket.
The napoleon, unfortunately, was very disappointing. The texture and flavors were just off--the zucchini was bland, the tomato was mushy, etc. That was the only part of the meal that I really disliked. My husband really enjoyed his salmon.
The service was really spotty--in addition to not bringing out my two appetizers with my husband's meal as I'd requested, we actually wanted to order dessert but were unable to because our server disappeared for an extended period and by the time he surfaced again, we had barely enough time to make it to the show we had tickets for. Oh well.........
In general, while the food was mostly very good, the high prices and uneven service make it unlikely that we'll return anytime particularly soon. Maybe for a special occasion, though.
My husband and I went for dinner and really enjoyed it. We over ordered just to try a few favorites when we go for Italian. We started with the Calamari Freta which we enjoyed and the Antipasto Classico which was excellent. My husband had the Gnocchi Gorgonzola and I had the Chicken Marsala over pasta and both were delicious. Our waitress was wonderful and has several suggestions with the wine list and menu. The overall experience was great and we are going back again.
Review Source:Lovely Restaurant in North Andover, had an early lunch on Monday. Â Only a couple of other tables when we arrived. Â Greeted promptly, seated and offered a drink. Â Waiter was attentive and proffessional. Â Dipping bread was brought and refilled before our meal yum.. Caprice Panini was delicious served with a small fruit salad, burger was cooked just right served with a small bag of chips. Â The Fruit Sangria was outstanding, a perfect addition on a hot day.
Review Source:I wish I could give this place two reviews; one based on service and one based on food. Â Alas, in a restaurant you cannot separate the two, so they get one star.
The Good: Â In the end the manager was very nice. Â And the house salad is really very tasty. Â Maybe even the best house salad I've had. Â But I won't be going back to enjoy it. Â
The Bad: Â My chicken piccatta was dry. Â Tasty, but dry. Â I think this may have more to do with the ugly though..
The UGLY: Â I have NEVER been treated as poorly by a waitstaff as I was by the server (Armando) at Buono Bistro. Â Our party of six was seated at 7:35, and we were not even given bread until past 8:00. Â Our waiter served other parties, took orders, etc. from parties that were seated after us all night long. Â When he did come over he was loud and abrasive, and got the orders wrong. Â Our entrees did not arrive until 8:47pm. Â Now, sure, it was a Saturday night, but other tables were getting their food, checks, etc. well ahead of our table. Â He was horrific; I wonder if it was because we were a table full of women? Â
Our food was dry by the time we got it; Â I don't blame the kitchen, I blame the server. Â We were ignored when we asked for dessert menus. Â I had to chase down the manager (who was lovely) for the check. Â Armando than brought over the check and literally threw it down on the table and disappeared never to return. Â
Why do they keep such a nasty person as a server? Â I have no idea. Â I won't be returning there to find out.
I cannot believe I have never eaten here. This was by far the best food that I've had in a long long time. The service was excellent. Started with Bruschetta, lovely mixed greens salad w/ mango, grilled pineapple, cranberries and goat cheese. Their vegetable risotto unbelievable, came out piping hot. I brought home chicken, broccoli alfredo for my husband and he says it's the best he has ever had. I'm already thinking of when I can go back again.
Review Source:yummms!
my mom and i discovered this place after purchasing a <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a>
very delicious!
strange parking lot, but the food and service were really good.
although i don't seem to understand why fellow yelpers gave this place a two ($$) money symbol, it should definitely be up there with three $$$ or four $$$$ money symbols, dishes range from 16-35 dollars. pretty pricey for this area.
yet in my eyes, worth it with the <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a>
food was very filling.
i ordered the gorgonzola gnocchi and my mom had one of the chicken dishes. both were extremely fresh and seemed to be cooked from scratch. always a ++++
our server was fantastic, very attentive yet not too overbearing.
really cute atmosphere, both perfect for a date night, or family/friend night.
didn't get to try the wine or alcoholic beverages yet they seemed to offer a wide selection.
will be back :)
Buono Bistro had been opened about a year before we finally got there to try it - and it wasn't exactly worth the wait. Â North Andover isn't exactly a mecca for 5 star establishments - altho with Burtons and Joe Fish we aren't doing too bad! And there is already an established italian spot in town (orzo's) which is also located in a strip mall! Â Ok now onto my review..we we went in on a Monday night around 630 - and at first i was a little nervous that we were the only ones in the place - but it started to fill up within about 20-30 minutes of us arriving. Â Also i will say that we had a $40 gift card to start with - and once we looked at the prices we decided that we were not going to get an appetizer - but try to spend as little of our own money as possible!! The meal came with bread and dipping oil - which was outstanding - and i did order a side salad - which came in a chilled bowl - which i always appreciate - and as a side salad it was a very generous portion and was a good medley (i.e. not all lettuce with a cucumber slice thrown in). Â I ordered the gnocci gorgonzola ($18) and my husband ordered chicken marsala ($17). Â I really wanted to order the seafood risotto - but priced at $27 that would've been almost our entire gift card for just my meal! Â My husband asked for extra marsala sauce and for the pasta to be tossed with chicken in the sauce. Â When the food arrived the portions were massive -definitly enough for dinner and a leftover lunch the next day. Â Unfortunatly the marsala came with a side dish of the pasta that had marinara sauce on it - not tossed in the dish as we had requested. Â And the gorgonzola sauce was so overpowering that you couldn't taste anything else - now i understand that gorgonzola is a potent cheese - but i would think as a sauce they would use it to highlight the pasta - not totally overtake it. Â Since we only ended up paying about $12 out of pocket - it wasn't so bad - but i would've been quite unhappy if i had paid full price for the meal. Â
The atmosphere is very nice (once you get over the outside strip mall appearance). Â And the waitstaff was very attentive - altho once it started to get busier we noticed that service dipped slightly. Â I would say we would go back to try out the lunch menu - but $13 for a cheeseburger in North Andover seems a little out of our comfort zone.
I am tempted to go in and try their espresso - but i have a feeling we won't be back there anytime soon.
Being only about 20 minutes outside of the North End - I would much rather drive into the city to get my Italian fix!!!
I have been here a few times, and the food is always amazing. The service on the other hand could use some work. The first time our waiter seemed to forget about us. The last time I went it took the staff a solid 4-5 minutes to notice they had people waiting to be seated, not even the owners (who were talking to some of the staff) noticed us. But the food is so good I would still go back.
Review Source:Very nice atmosphere. Everything is new. Has a big bar and good size seating area. Martinis are good size. The carbonara absolutely sucked. Was almost not eatable. However the eggplant was awesome. Ceasar salad was good and quite large. Â
This place is hit or miss on what you order. Â Some things are great but others suck.
A respectable suburban wasteland establishment with promise.
My wife and I were greeted warmly by the hostess who was working hard to get us a nice table at 8:30 on a Friday night. We adjourned to the bar for a cocktail. Surprised that a gin and tonic and a Cosmo came to $20, but rolled with it. Â It was also strange that the apparently amateur bartender delivered my G&T with lemon, not lime, but quickly remedied it.
We were promptly seated at an oversized booth and introduced to our waiter, Joey. Â Nice young guy who was very attentive and provided great service. Â Now onto the food.
The simple bread basket with oil and balsamic dip was delicious.  My wife had a great Caesar salad and I had a house salad.  Both well presented, nicely chilled and appointed with homemade dressings.  My wife had the seafood risotto that could have been extraordinary if prepared with more flavor.  The lobster, shrimp and scallops within were  phenomenal.  High quality seafood prepared to perfection.  Regretfully the abundant risotto was downright bland and required lots of salt just to make it palatable.  What it needed was some more seafood stock within, some salt, and some more butter or a better cheese within.  There was also a distracting quantity of dried parsley on top where fresh parsley should have been used. Â
I had the eggplant rolotini appetizer for my meal. Â Upon first bite it was like warm at best. Â Our waiter, Joey, promptly apologized and ushered it back to the kitchen for some much needed heat. Â I was surprised to see it back in less than a minute, piping hot. Â Clearly it was thrown into an industrial strength microwave. Â What a turnoff, also wiping out whatever crispness the eggplant originally had. Â It was a decent enough dish, a bit overwhelming on the cheese filling.
The tab came to $49, not counting the $20 drinks at the bar. Â A little steep for suburbia, especially since I only had an appetizer and a house salad. Â My wife's risotto was $27.
All in all a nice night out. Â We will return and give it another shot since they were so very close to nailing it. Â Even better if I can get a Groupon or <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FRestaurant.com&s=0aab4cbd731f3d3b0d1453050d3abc56a8c80bd214e25469c7555b750dca8a51" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://Restaurant.com</a> certificate to take the edge off.
What a great find !! Â Was warmly greeted at the door by the owner or manager and the hostess. Two of us for dinner. We ordered the Beef Risotto & Chicken Francese. The beef tenderloin was a med. rare and the Rissoto was creamy and delicious !! Â The Chicken was also very good with the lemon/wine sauce and it was juicy and perfectly cooked.
Our server, Amanda T. was very friendly and informed us of the specials and checked back with us to make sure everything was good and to see if we needed anything. Service with a smile.
The salads we got were fresh and nicely presented. The espresso martini and glass of wine were also top notch. Desserts are a great ending to a perfect meal. We had the tarrimisu and the Creme Brulee Cheese Cake tasted fresh and were both great.
I can't say enough good things about Buono Bistro, Our new favorite restaurant !!
Sat at a hightop table by the front window with my girlfriends this past Monday. Â The bartender doubled as our waitress. Â She was attentive, pleasant, prompt with drinks as well as delivering our food. Â
All three of us loved the food we ordered: the bruschetta, the lamb osso bucco, Â the wild mushroom risotto and the chicken rosario. Â The latter being out-of-this-world delicious!
Highly recommend!
My husband and I had been to the Salem, NH version of this restaurant and enjoyed it, so when I saw the <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FRestaurant.com&s=0aab4cbd731f3d3b0d1453050d3abc56a8c80bd214e25469c7555b750dca8a51" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://Restaurant.com</a> deal and knew this was only minutes away from my house, I couldn't pass it up. Â The outside of the restaurant is a bit deceiving, looks like its at the front part of a newly renovated plaza. Â But on the inside, it is spacious with a very nice, upscale atmosphere. Â The bar is separated by a short wall with frosted glass, but you can still see the TVs from your table (so you can keep up to the minute on the Red Sox game if you want). Â
We started our meal off with the Eggplant Rollotini, which I thought was great, and my other half thought it was the best he's ever had (even beat out the one we love from Porto Bello's in Wakefield). Â For dinner, I got the Pesto Genovese pasta dish which was filled cut veggies and when I say this was a lot of food, I mean this was A LOT OF FOOD! Â The dish was HUGE. Â It lasted me 2 extra meals and was absolutely delicious! Â My husband got the seafood pasta special. Â Even for him, he got an extra meal out of it. Â He enjoyed his meal but griped again how he can't understand why restaurants leave the shrimp tails on in a pasta dish. Â For dessert, we shared the chocolate mouse-filled cake (actually my husband ordered it because I said I didn't want any dessert - but I ended up eating half!). Â It wasn't anything exceptional, but because it tasted just like a Hostess Cupcake which I hadn't had in ages, I still enjoyed every bite.
The service was great and the waitress was friendly and helpful. Â Good atmosphere and delicious food. Â I'll definitely be going back. Â Thanks Buono Bistro!
Came back to try again with a <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a> gift certificate.
Food and service was much better. Â A hipper, more upscale italian restaurant and not your typical red sauce place.
Good place for a night out with friends for cocktails and solid food.
Some very rough reviews on yelp so far. I found the food here to be a delight and the service was fine if not very good.
We had salads that were fresh and well presented. Our waitress accommodated my request for red pepper flakes and olive oil instead of dressing (this may sound simple but so tough for so many places!)
Our entrees (rack of lamb and veal picatta) Â were excellent. My sides, mashed potato and spinach sauteed with mushrooms, were both excellent.
For dessert, we had the chocolate bomb. It was moist and tasty.
As for service, there were occasional lulls in attention but our waitress was doubling as hostess. We also were fine being left to ourselves with our bottle of wine and food. We didn't wait terribly long for anything but furthermore our waitress was friendly and helpful (not terribly knowledgeable but got the answers we wanted right away).
PASS
First time visit for a Saturday evening dinner with a dear friend. Delighted to see the bar and dining room busy. Warmly greeted as we entered and immediately seated at a large round table at the front of the dining room. The wait staff was friendly and very attentive. On the plus side, and the plusses far exceed the minuses, the food was excellent. My wife and I had Fettucini Genovese - a pasta tossed with julenne vegetables in a pesto sauce. Absolutely outstanding! And we split a Ceasar salad which was also good albeit a bit small for $11. Our friend had the Chicken Piccata (if I'm remembering correctly!) which she loved. Excellent meal with very good service. Only minus is that the room is a bit noisy but not so that we won't return...we will!
