Saw The Mentors there.....Cool place, but Im a bit older and have gone thru all that already........Im a bit jaded, but I appreciate the place. And they have a quarter pipe skateboard ramp on the side....lots of kids just like Gilman. Nowadays I like Thee Parkside.
I got invited to be part of a film shoot at Burnt Ramen, but we'll see if Im in the mood to participate.....
Definitely good shows here....its just that there are too many kids here...
This beast come's out when it is 25° below zero, it can rip off your face. I've been here twice.... I think. Once a long time ago, and once not so long ago. One time some kids found a body by the train tracks. The head was missing. There was a skateboard ramp. One time they brought a video camera. I practiced a kickflip... but didn't land it. There was a stage dive. Also we got drunk off a space bag and some rum. Take a twelve pack and some water perhaps next time. Because it's a party. Blockbuster video, wow what a difference.
Review Source:I love Burnt Ramen. Â Especially with Toast. Â No but seriously anyplace where I can pee near an old RV, look over my shoulder because some good samaritan might want to lighten my heavy wallet, and look at porno on the back wall is just awesome. Â No really.
Also boobs. Â Yes. Â Boobs. Â Why is this on Yelp? Â Isnt this a place for restaurants, hardware stores, and somewhere to let all your yuppie friends know how the clerk at Starbucks was like sooo inattentive and didnt know what a venti frappamochalatte was? Â Srsly...
I love this place. I played here a few times back in the day when I had a punk band. Just good old fashion fun. B.Y.O.B.
I can't remember the last time I went to a show and had as much fun as I used to here. A great place for a bunch of friends to just kick back, enjoy some tunes and get messed up.
The East Bay definitely could use more DIY style clubs. The Slaughter House was great too, but now it's condo's or something stupid.
Another great punk venue in the east bay area located in Richmond. Â I haven't been here for a couple years. Â Last time was to see Municipal Waste before they became big. Â I used to see shows here booked by John the Baker every once in a while and it still hasn't changed. Â
It's been 4 years since I last went here and I came to support my friend's benefit music and art show. Â The bill for the night. Â From start to finish: Â Bum City Saints, Gunner, Eskapo and La Plebe. Â It was an awesome line up. Â Great music and great crowd.
A lot of kids, and even their parents?!! Â Hey, if thats what it takes to get to a show, more power to you. Â Means to an end yeah? Â I guess If I had kids and they wanted to go to a show in Richmond, I escort as well. Â Props for being ultra cool parental units.
The place is a 3/4 the size of Gilman, yet it doesn't feel crowded... Â Unless it's a big night. Â I wouldn't say the venue is intimate. Â But more in your face and you're most likely to get dragged or pulled into the mosh pit. Â You might get your face punched. Â The bathroom is a pretty site. Â I guess it justs ads more allure to the space. Â You can also get your skate on inside in the other room, including a small series of ramps and walls to crawl. Â
My only gripe was the sound for the night. Â But it could have been the sound guy. Â The PA might have been blown. Â There were other times where the sound was really good so it might have been a crap shoot deal. Â Â
All in all, if you want to catch the best of bay area hardcore/crust and grindcore punk. Â Chances are it'll be here.
We took my 1 year old son, Max, here yesterday for a pre-show "meeting" with M.D.C. & PAWNS. There was no way in hell we could stay for the show...we'd like to our little man to make it to kindergarten with his eardrums in one piece, thank you just the same...however, Max had a great time watching the kids skateboard & spray paint things. HA!
Review Source:Burnt Ramen is probably the most revered DIY venue in the Bay Area punk/crust/hc scene in recent years, and for good reason.
I saw some of the most fun shows I've been to here, and met many a friend for the first time (or second depending on my level of drunkenness). The people who operate and frequent the place always did a good job of policing themselves. I've been here a couple times when the cops have shut it down (including one time when over 10 cars showed up at a Ghoul/Municipal Waste show due to out-of-town dumbasses causing a disturbance in the surrounding area).
One of the other reviews says it best, not the place to tell mom about. Definitely want to know your way to the place beforehand, for the surrounding area is very dangerous, and don't park too far away. Also, if you have not seen it, watch the "Ramen Days" documentary.
This is the best venue I've ever been to. Period.
Located in the murder capital of the world, right off the train tracks in style, tucked away in a random building with no markings on the outside. Push open that handle-less door and welcome to punk crust heaven.
Graffiti everywhere. Skate ramps thrown into corners with a room full of ramps to the rear. The rules are there are no rules - and that's the way it plays.
Seriously one of the funnest times I've had hardcore dancing in a while. A long fucking while.
Forties abound, boots are kicking, and the feeling in the air is that of raw, pure, EXCITEMENT.
These fuckers know what they are doing.
