Growing up on this side of Chula Vista, I am forever in search of a respite from the dime a dozen chain establishments in the area.

Also, being 20-something, I am forever in search of free wi-fi and a free outlet.

Here at Caffe Tazza, I found both. Conveniently close to my optometrist at Costco (oh haay, Dr. Solis!), I stopped by to get some work done before my appointment.

I ordered my favorite drink - iced spiced chai latte with an espresso shot (aka Dirty Chai), and it was pleasantly delicious. With the addition of soy milk, the price rose above the $5 mark, but this is pretty comparable to other local establishments.

They have a cozy, open seating area with couches, along with bar seating. I opted for a small table, and easily found a place to plug in my laptop.

I also ordered a jalepeno and cheese bagel. I was wary of the plastic wrapping around the pastries, but this was surprisingly very fresh and enjoyable. This was $1.25, and the cream cheese costs extra.

Overall, this is a good-sized spot for a coffee-fix or to get stuff done. I'd definitely come back here when visiting my parents.

I LOVE this place. I've only been here twice, and had nothing but good experiences! It's a typical coffee-house setting, (but with more lighting?). Great place to catch up with friends. The food (and smoothies!) are really good here too.

Both times, I've come on a Saturday night, and there were still places to sit, but the place doesn't feel crowded and stuffy at all. A very relaxed, chill atmosphere.

To start with something nice, they make the BEST Chai Tea I've ever had.

With that, after a long day out running errands, I decided to treat myself, which I don't do often.  I remember having their Chai Tea Latte before, so off I went.

I decided to grab something to eat as well, and the very nice girl rang me up.  I handed her a $50. bill, and she said, "I'm sorry, we don't accept $50. bills, you can go next door to Subway and break it."........really?  She then points to a tiny sign on the cash register that says, "no $100. bills" and from a marker, a very small (no $50's)

So I then pulled out plastic, which I don't like to use, she says, "I'm sorry, we don't take American Express."  I just replied, I guess you just don't want my business, I'll never be back!

When will businesses figure out CUSTOMER SERVICE???  Kills me!

That is why I have vowed to write reviews on really good customer service, unfortunately, it's 1 out of 15 experiences!!

But this bad experience was note worth!

I have some fond memories of this place. I've been coming here since high school... so over 10 years now?? I don't live in Chula Vista anymore, but every now and then I'll drop by here when I'm in the area. The Polar Bear is just as amazing now as it was then. And apparently they serve alcohol now??? I also had their grilled chicken breast sandwich, which was pretty tasty.

    UGH.

NEVER in all of the times that I've been here, and my family and I are frequent customers, have I left feeling so disrespected.

Today my family and I (a total of 7 of us) came in to get some refreshing drinks after a long day. It wasn't that crowded, no lines, and these two female baristas were chatting it up, waiting for customers I assume - and both who I didn't recognize. This is where it begins.

My dad goes up to order his usual, and even though we all came in walking together and talking to each other, the girl at the register goes "Is that going to be it?", so my dad tells my mom to order. The girl interrupts my mom and says "Next time, can you call in your order?", and says its proudly with an attitude. Obviously feeling a bit offended, we shyly give our orders. When it comes to my cousin, who for him it was his first time getting a drink here, he hesitated a bit to answer - at this point the girl behind the counter is rolling her eyes. After we order, we just sit and wait.

Two drinks come out, then two more. The latter don't get picked up and my mom says to me "Are those mine?...I ordered 4 blended frappuccino's, those two are hot drinks". The girl behind the register, while taking another customer's order, blurts out at my mom "There are your mocha's", again saying it with an attitude. My mom replies, "I ordered two mocha frapps", and then the girl rolls her eyes again and tells the other employee that the drinks were made wrong. When she asks what's wrong with the drinks, the girl at the register goes "She says they were supposed to be cold - I guess".

The worst part of this is that the girl who was giving us the attitude WASN'T EVEN MAKING THE DRINKS.

Honestly, after this incident, I probably will only order my drinks from an employee I recognize or the manager because I've never felt so disrespected while at this location. Don't get me wrong: delicious drinks and we're USUALLY treated great. But today changed it all, and every one should know that all it takes is ONE bad experience to ruin it.

A tad slow on the Barista... Was only 4th in line and it took a good 15 minutes to get my 20 oz hot cafe latte. Would've been out of there in less than 5 minutes had I been at Starbucks. Plus the temperature was a tad cooler than expected... Meh...

I dropped by Cafe Tazza a couple times because my friend always insisted on meeting at this place. I've lived in CV for a good chunk of my life and I didn't know they had a large coffee/bar house at the terra nova plaza..? Anyways- atmosphere is pretty decent. There's a lot of inside and outdoor seating and it's pretty darn spacious. Sometimes they have live bands playing which is really nice if you're a fan, but for me ehhhhh.

I've only had the ice blended cappuccino (eh) and the Chai tea latte which tasted too sweet for me. Other than that they have a wide variety of coffee/beer/sandwiches that I've yet to try. Anywho, give this place a try, you can't really go wrong, but I suggest not touching the gelato and just making a quick stride to the Cold stone next door. The gelato looks like it's been sitting in the display for quite a while and that's saying something since I'm an ice cream monster.

    Not much to say.

I arrived with a friend of mine, and we weren't impressed.  We were looking for a place where we could just chill.  The place seemed more like a sports bar than a cafe and pretty noisy.  Couldn't really talk that much.

As for the drinks- She said that her tea was way too hot.  I ordered a cappuccino.  Nothing really special.

It's not the best place i've been to.  Probably better off with starbucks.

The coffee is fine, not extraordinary, but fine. I'm not sure if the owners have a clear idea of what their business is about - a cafe? Cheap wine bar? Or beach side kiosk in Mexico...several times I have come in and there are people selling their random wares from the coffee tables. The wine selection is thoughtless-a quick trip to Trader Joe's would be educational. Maybe they feel that they're just fine for the area-that folks aren't very sophisticated and won't notice, but that's never true. In today's gourmet savvy world, a little effort would go a long way.

OK, so I'm in Chula Vista to meet someone. Nothing torrid mind you. Just meeting a guy who wants to buy my Dell Streak 7". Where to meet though... "I'll Yelp it!", I thought.

As some of you may know, I have a soft spot in my heart for indie coffee houses and when I found Caffee Tazza here on good ole Yelp, that was it!

The place is has a nice decor and is very inviting. They have a good selection of coffee drinks and pastries and even gelato. I went for the Milky Way blended mocha and it was pretty tasty. A tad bit too sweet, but still pretty good.

It's clear that the baristas know what they're doing and enjoy doing it. The comfy seating and free wifi makes it a definite winner. There was a nice crowd hanging out at 9pm on a Wednesday night. A good sign.

I will definitely return when I'm in the CV.

I can't believe I never decided to give this place a try considering I've been living near this area for fourteen years. Well, I don't even know if Caffe Tazza has even been around for that long but you get the picture.

I think the first time stepped into this place was probably a few months ago because my sister wanted a drink from here.

Anyway, after discovering the delicious vanilla chai teas with soy-milk at my school, I've been on the hunt looking for new places with good chai teas. Look no further. Caffe Tazza has a remarkable vanilla and spiced chai tea. They use chai powder instead of the tea bag or syrup alternatives. I'm glad they do because the chai powder is the best one.

I also discovered they have two delicious and healthy sandwiches. The only two I've had and my favorite two are: Grilled Eggplant - Ciabatta roll, eggplant slices, pesto, mayo, peppers, artichoke hearts, tomato, & lettuce and Fresh Mozzarella - Ciabatta roll, creamy Italian dressing, pesto, mozzarella ball, artichoke hearts, tomato, & lettuce. They are both amazing, especially the Fresh Mozzarella. Both sandwiches are big and fulfilling size, it will fill you up. And, they come with a slice of pickle. So good! I almost forgot, a few weeks ago I tried their Breakfast Bagel - Your choice of bagel, eggs, provolone cheese, bacon, mayo & tomato. But, without the bacon. It was phenomenal! The eggs were fluffy, the cheese was melted just right and the bagel was fresh, warm and soft. Just perfect!

The prices are a little expensive and that's the only thing that I don't like from here.

They also serve wine and have a few beers on tap. I haven't had one yet, but its great that they do. They're always advertising their happy hour specials too.

The customer service is stupendous and friendly. I always feel welcomed and at home. And, they have wi-fi too.

The vibe and atmosphere are great. Its a laid back coffee lounge with chill people of all ages and they always some music gig going on.

I'm a regular and I love this place.

Nice place, good beverages and food selection.  But for all of that, the price is expensive.  Not a terribly good place to study as the manager (last time I was there) is a bit hostile to people who linger past their welcome and he makes his displeasure known.

This is a great place to hang out and study. There is a great atmosphere, really calm and it gets more social on Friday and Saturday nights... I've run into some friends beering it up and also to family friends just drinking coffee. I have come to this spot for years and they have always had good service and good food/ drink quality. Their prices are not too different from those found in a Starbucks or other coffee shops.

Lately when I have gone during a slow hour the employees seem to be in the back or just chatting with customers that are sitting at the bar, which would be fine if they looked over to the customers ready to go by the cash register.

The bathroom is for both women and men and is kept clean and appropriate.

wifi doesn't need to be paid for although my laptop sometimes has trouble connecting to their server.

It is not perfect but it has a good atmosphere and sometimes its better to break away from the Starbucks tendency and just go to a place like this and relax with some friends.

Very nice place.  When I visited on a Friday night, they had a 3-piece band play.  They were very nice.  The audience was a little young for me (I'm 50).  Most attendees were half my age, but the atmosphere was very comfortable.

Some outdoor seating and a nice selection of coffees, teas, desserts, and more.  The also have wireless internet

I been here a couple of times with a group of friends. We arent really the the coffee house crowd but some times we don't want to drink (shocking I know).

The coffee is standard fare that you see everywhere else, nothing on the menu stands out that I could recommend and they have the best of. They have a large pastry selection which is great for me.

They also have happy hour and its pretty decent, the beers that they have available are pretty good selection, the wine list though isn't very impressive, but for the prices its well worth it.

The service can be a little rough as the staff is a little...blah.  The service isn't bad its just...blah.

We will probably continue going there because the couches are comfy and at least on the days we have been there its pretty quiet. This place is A-OK!!!

I came here to study and grab a quick dinner. I ordered a Medium Polar Bear and a Herb Chicken. The polar bear was smooth and the chicken sandwich was really good. Its a bit pricy but it was ok because I was there for a few hours. The atmosphere was nice and chill until Happy Hour but that's why I brought headphones. This is going to be my regular spot to study

Good place to go.  Henry is the best barista I know.  HIs coffee drinks are always the best.  They use Cafe Moto beans and mexican style chocolate for there mocha drinks.   Which I love.

The new owners have included Gelatto and are really big on the alcohol.  Good wine and beer.  Its not really a bar or drinking spot.  Not enough room and too noisy to have a calm glass of wine.

A cold beer and free Wi-fi is nice when you are writing or working on a project.

Food is good but not fantastic, nothing to come in especially for.  Good for a light snack or when the low blood sugar hits.

Only thing I dislike.  People smoke outside 5 feet from the door, sometimes cigars.  It was so bad once my party had to leave.  They have a no smoking within 20 feet policy but they do not enforce it.

This place is fun. First of all....
hello ? this place not only sells coffee...soooooo if you have anti-drinkers and they want to have coffee but you want to have a beer or some wine....come to this place. They have a lil patio where of course when you are drinking either wine or beer or coffee..... you can smoke. Hip hip hooray. After a long day of work and gym...this place hits the spot. close to home. Local spot. Friendly owner that in fact is always there most of the times I check it out. I have not had the food but all my friends have. They said it was good.

I believe they have free-wifi. I always see people getting together for homework and projects and such. It is a very low key chill place.

They told me they have mimosas on sundays but I still have not checked that out. It is very accessible. Out of the 805 H street.

I use to live out of Tazza when I was attending Harvard on the hill aka SWC. This was before the new owner took over and completely destroyed what was once a great coffee bar/wine/beer bar. And this new guy is a complete douche who was extremely rude to my group of friends and me. Who also sits outside with his cronie buddies and allows them to smoke their filthy cigars next to the entrance. Not only does the smell carry into the coffee shop but it then lingers on your clothes. Unacceptable.

Soon after the new owner took over, signs were plastered all over the wall asking patrons using their wifi to buy accordingly, meaning give us more money for providing no extra service. Wifi has always been free here and this place does a lot of business so I don't see why the owner would have to put up such a ridiculous sign.

Dear Mr. Douche Bag Owner, I would wish financial ruin on you but then all those poor college kids would be out of a job. Thanks for ruining such a great cafe and turning it into a complete waste of space.

P.S. You should be shut down for blatant health code violations. The last several times I went there, your steaming wands on the espresso machine were brown. That means Mr. Douche, that your employees are failing to clean the wands and that brown stuff is burnt milk. Yuck!

It's not so much for what it was, but for what it wasn't, that this place gets 4 stars.  It's not starbucks, and it's not lestat's, which for each of their target audiences, and occasionally for me, is great, BUT, sometimes you want a place that isn't overwhelmingly packed with macbook using, horrible-beard-having screenwriter types, who aren't actually doing anything on their macbook, except pretending they are doing something on their macbook.

    Tazza, isn't that place.

It's more like: the cute asian girls that really want to be partying, but instead decided to hang out with their even cuter white girlfriends so they could "study" for their midterms at southwestern college, oh and they brought their neice, because they are nice like that.  Which isn't a bad thing, if you are actually trying to enjoy a cup of coffee, without wondering why some guys can't grow a real beard.

What's hot:  It's always busy, but never packed.  The seating is ridiculously comfortable.  The food is better than average, and the drinks are great, except the water...which is tap water, and it doesn't come with ice unless you spell it out for them.  Some of the desserts are pretty damned good.

What's not:  The bathroom smells horribly.  The prices are a bit egotistical.  Some of the desserts can taste a bit institutionalized, like they have them delivered, and they are not as homemade as they may be presented as.  Sandwiches are a bit smaller than I prefer.

It's worth a shot if you want a mellower scene, but one that doesn't make you feel like you missed the boat.

Caffe Tazza is great quality in a great location, right off the I-805 off H Street in the Terra Nova Shopping Center.

There is bar seating, or comfy leather couches, and some leather club chairs.  There is an outside patio where those who puff can puff their stuff!

Happy hour is until 9:00 PM, What a DEAL, and All Day Sunday.

Good selection of bottled wines, bottled beer, and draught brews.

Coffee? yes, of course  Sandwiches and Salads, too.  Nice menu.

Gelatto Ice from Italy, well it was invented there, mmm-mmm-mmm.

Wi-Fi is almost free, just ask the baristas nicely for password, or better yet, buy a coffee drink, hot or iced, plug-in and relax.

Seems to be a hangout for hotties, but come down and judge for yourself, especially if you are a hottie yourself!

This is a first. Writing a review of a place while I am actually inside the business in question.

I am sitting at a small table, on my laptop, earphones on, listening to Britney Spears (kidding), sipping on their delicious spiced tea late while stealing glances at a really cute guy sitting across from me.

I really like Caffe Tazza and not just because I get to inconspicuously scope out the cute guys that come here.

It's close, they have good drinks and food....AND they serve beer and alcohol. Wuuuut? Yeah, you heard right. The feel of this cafe is nice too. Although my favorite part is the good quality free Wifi.
A girl has to get her facebook and yelp on ;D

My attention has re-focused from the cute guy to a freakin amazon woman who is about 6'4 without heels. I really wish Melly Su was here so I could make her stand near her. She could probably fit in her po'ket.

Melissa would probably want to kill me after reading this haha

Um, forget the amazon. Cute guy #2 just walked in.

I've been going to Caffe Tazza since it opened back in the 90s.. It's changed quite a bit and all for the good. If you dont mind crowds on certain nights, like others have said, it's a nice, local place in Chula Vista, to relax, enjoy your drink and/or food and conversation. Yes, I hope Caffe Tazza becomes an old reliable place to go to and refer to others for years to come, because in "chained-out" CV, it's refreshing to know that we've got a few places to go to with it's own charm.

I always get the coconut italian soda with a little whip cream on top.  I wasn't much for coconut drinks, but its not too sweet, and it always hits the spot!

Alright, So I've been coming here for years. Recently ownership changed. Quality of food and service has stayed the same...Average. Not bad. I just want to share something about this new ownership. I just don't understand. My friend had been sitting on the couch with her feet up on the table. He came over and told her to take her feet down in consideration of other customers. Now this is where i get confused. Five minutes later the owner is sitting outside with customers who are smoking Cigars. The smoke is coming into the coffee shop. He sits there with them while they keep smoking their cigars for nearly 20 minutes. Where is the consideration in his actions. He's the owner.
If he wants to hangout with his friends while they smoke cigars, he should do it at a cigar shop or someone's home.

I've been coming here for years but this incident really bothered me. Hopefully it was just an isolated incident and not a true reflection of the new ownership.

The Service here is Great, the Food is Excellent and the Price is pretty Decent...What more can you ask for from an Excellent Coffee Shop.
I also love the free WIFI...take a hint Starbucks.

I'm a huge fan of the Spinach Salad they have over here....Nicely portioned and it fills you up. The Sandwiches are excellent to and I would recommend  this Restaurant to anyone that wants a place thats nice and very pleasant to hang around at.

Decent food, but kind of expensive if you're poor. They also have a decent bar for a coffee shop, which is odd, but kind of cool. There never seem to be enough tables though, and its not like the place has many people in it at once. Might also be a case of stuck up customers, but hey, i rated a 4.

I was going to rate this a 3, but what changed my mind was that they're tolerant of smoking outside. I'm not a smoker myself, but I don't think personal politics should get in the way of hanging out at a coffee shop.

Einstein's was closed, so it was either Caffe Tazza or Subway for sandwiches for our drive back to LA.  The grilled eggplant and the mozzarella sandwiches were more than enough for the three of us.  Fresh ciabatta bread slathered with good pesto, a slab of mozzarella cheese, artichoke hearts, tomatoes gelling together.  An utterly unexpected find in a shopping plaza off the H street exit off the 805.

A nice place to have a coffee, work on your laptop and escape for a bit.

There is comfortable seating- a couple sofas, several club chairs and then a bunch of tables with chairs.  It's usually not to crowded- I've only gone there once or twice without being able to sit in a club chair.

The internet is free and pretty fast.

The coffee is good- there is the normal selection of coffee- from a hammerhead to some of your more desert-type coffees.  (personally I wouldn't be caught dead drinking something with whipped cream on it- but I realize that I am a minority!).

There is a good selection of pastries.  There are even good sandwiches, salads, and other "eats" available.  Next door is a taco shop and there is a subway a couple doors away if you want other dining options- though I doubt that you can bring the food back into the cafe.

The crowd seems to be mostly Latino professionals and students.

On the downside, the service is kind of slow.  I usually fire up my laptop and work until the line has died down before ordering.  And, it's more than a little bit noisy.  Between the noise of the coffee grinder and of people, I usually end up stepping outside to take a cell phone call.  Parking is plentiful, but can be a little crowded near the cafe- I usually park behind Cafe Tazza to avoid the hassle.

Great place for those who need a study joint. Drinks are awesome (although i think they specialty drinks all taste the same) and the food is great (try a pannini). Its comfortable and has free wi-fi, not to mention the giant TV to distract you from your work when you need it. Always clean and serves booze too, so all your friends will dig it, even when they're not "coffee fans". So grab a Stella and chill on the comfy couches with your laptop while you work on that Myspace, oh i mean "paper". This place is also great for people who hate Starbucks just because its everywhere - so to the non-conformist, hit up this joint. get yourself a smoothie and you can talk about how much you hate Corporate America, since you DID pay for that drink with your bank card.

Cafe Tazza is probably the largest independent coffeehouse in Starbucks-heavy Chula Vista. They serve San Diego based Cafe Moto coffee, and they have a good selection of sandwiches, smoothies and desserts. The ice-blended coffees here are really sweet but I prefer them to other places like the Livingroom, Gelato Vero or Claire de Lune.  Tazza's has free wireless internet and a frequent buyer program.  They close kind of early, around 9:00 or 10:00 p.m. most nights but if you live in Chula Vista, your alternative is the Bux, so I give it a relative 4-stars.
