The salad bar is one of the best in the business, especially at this rather low level. Â The server at this location was excellent. Â The steak was...well...I had lunch there and ordered a sirloin. Â I don't know why people like this steak. Â No marbling, so it is a relatively dry cut. Â Ordered medium, the steak arrived rare. Â Bleeding. Â I had prepped my potato just right before cutting the steak. Â :::sigh::: Â Sent back. Â Waited (not too long.) Â Came back pretty much medium. Â With a new potato. Â Fixed up new potato. Â Yummy potato, my way. Â The steak? Â Even though the manager brought it back to me with a flourish (although the yellow sweatshirt he wore was a turnoff) it was ... Meh. Â Dry and tasteless. Â How can a steak be so utterly tasteless? Â It didn't even have that "seared meat" quality a grilled steak has absent any other kinds of flavorings or curing. Â I think this says more about CB's steak source than anything about the place itself. Â
Side note: there was some old guy and his wife sitting in a booth near the salad bar who was the loudest, most uncouth eater I have ever heard. Â He was crunching his taco chips and then chewing with his mouth open. YOU COULD HEAR HIM ALL OVER THE RESTAURANT. Â A complete pig. Â What rock do creatures like this come out from under? Â And who lets them mingle with humans? Â If it hadn't been so disgusting it would have been comical. Â Well, CB's can't be faulted for their clientele. Â At least I was taught as a small child how to eat so as to not bother other eaters. Â (That just makes me trying to be polite, not special.) Â
You can do better and so can CB's. Â Seems to me, though, this chain is circling the drain.
Don't go to Charlie Brown's in Hamilton and expect the Charlie Brown's quality and ambience that you'll get from other locations (i.e. Matawan). It appears to be a converted diner or Perkin's, and is just a big wide open room with no character or good atmosphere. The food was just so-so, and certainly not worth the hefty prices. I will return to Charlie Brown's, but never to the Hamilton location.
Review Source:The Salad Bar at Charlie Brown's is probably the best I've ever seen. Â You can order that only, and be happy. Â There are other reviews reviewing the food. Â Read them.
The food is decent for a chain restaurant, with a ton of offerings.
The only problem is and a big problem is the price. Â A hamburger is $9.99. Â Three years ago the hamburger at charlie brown was $6.49. Â The salad bar is $11.99? Â That is highway robbery. Â A big lunch cost me $17 with tip and no lunch.
On our trip back home recently, we stopped off at Charlie Brown's Steakhouse for dinner, just minutes and a few turns from I-295 in Hamilton Twp, parking lot in the back. I've had pretty good meals at several other Charlie Brown's locations in NY and PA and the prices are fair. This location is pretty cozy inside including a separate lounge area, cozy dining room and the salad bar in the center of the dining room.
The menu offerings include steaks, seafood, ribs, chicken, prime rib, pasta, appetzers, and desserts. The Farmer's Market Salad Bar is included with each meal and has quite a selection of fresh greens, garnishes, dressings, cold salads, fruit, and bread.
Since we arrived here around 7:30PM on a Sunday night, there was no wait and we were seated immediately. The restaurant had ongoing Seafood Extravaganza Specials, so we decided to order some seafood entrees. First, we helped ourselves to the salad bar which looked smaller than the salad bars at other locations I've been to, but it was pretty well stocked with the same selection of fresh food, just less spread out.
My friend ordered the Fish n Chips ($15.99), which was pretty good and had crispy battered haddock filets, thick steak fries, and a very creamy cole slaw. I went with the Shrimp Extravaganza Special ($12.99) which had 20 shrimp including coconut shrimp, breaded fried shrimp, and grilled shrimp on skewers, served with choice of side (garlic mashed potatoes), very good! We ate more than enough food, that we had boxes to go.
The service was good for the most part. At first. it took a few moments for the waiter to come over and take our order. The food arrived at our table in about 15 minutes after we ordered and enjoyed our fill of the salad bar. We were also given a few refills on the Diet Pepsi and Coffee. We definitely needed the boost for the 3.5 hour night drive up to Albany NY after dinner.
