Service is outstanding and accommodating. When I asked for mignonette sauce for my oysters on the half shell, presto, out it came.  Rest of entrees and appetizers for our group of eight rate four stars.  Menu may not have a lot of imagination, but everything is well prepared.  The downside, and I subtracted a star, is the bar smoke that permeates the whole place.  Until KY passes a ban on smoking in public places, we won't be back.

Jared the valet the and the view of
Cincinnati earned both stars. Nothing else good to say.

This place is extremely over priced and for no reason. The portions are small and the food isn't all that great. The only.exciting factor in going yo.this restaurant is that the view of the Ohio River and Cincinnati is unbelievably beautiful. The service isn't bad either. They do offer "free" valet service, but we all know what that means....They expect a huge tip.

Service was great...food was not worth the price. View was gorgeous.

I've always enjoyed the Chart House chain and this location is as good as they get. Beautiful view of the Cincinnati skyline over the Ohio River, a relaxed ambience, and great food. We ended up eating here three nights in a row back in April because there were so many things on the menu we wanted to try and it was a convenient walk from our hotel.

The Chart House is perfect if you are 55+, don't want to eat anything you haven't had a million times before, and don't like decor that's post-1983.

If you just want a decent piece of fish that's about $10 overpriced from a restaurant with a really great view... this is your spot.

Or you could just go to Mitchell's.

Great appetizer called East Meets West, but $16 was steep.
Salad bar just ordinary for cost.
Both entrees were served barely warm.  Potatoes on plate just room temperature.  My Prime Rib was also an extremely fatty cut.  Short ribs with scallops a pass.  Stringy meat, scallops small.
Food allowed to sit and served barely warm inexcusable for empty tables.
Wine by the glass selection very weak.
Chart House, it is time to clean your windows.

We just returned from an evening at the Chart House and what a terrific experience! Our server was attentive and professional. We had a party of 12 and she called several folks at our table by name when taking orders.

The food was impressive, particularly for a chain restaurant, albeit an upscale chain. We shared an appetizer platter filled with fried calamari, asparagus, shrimp, oysters on the half shell, shrimp cocktail and king crab legs. Everything was fresh and plentiful. Several of us had the clam chowder which was devoured by all. The gazpacho was light and full of fresh cucumber, red onion and tomato. Seasoned well, too.

Our entrees ranged from prime rib to filets and lobster. What can I say? The deafening silence was indicative of a meal well enjoyed.

Our server mentioned that their signature chocolate lava cake took 30 minutes to prepare so if we were interested in ordering we might want to place the order prior to receiving our dinner. So glad she brought this to our attention...each couple ordered one to share. Filled with warm Godiva chocolate and served ala mode, this would satisfy the greatest of chocoholic cravings!

This was a most perfect dinner, yes we will be back.

The seared ahi tuna was fantasic as was the lobster bisque soup. Great ambiance on the Ohio River at sunset. I've been to several other Chart House Restaraunts and this one would be avarage to the ocean front ones. It's still a great place!

Value my health too much to go back... it is a smoking restaurant and the bar smoke permeates the restaurant... like the peeing section in the pool... it just does not work!!

I have to agree with several others about Chart House. The service was spectacular along with the views, but the food was a little less spectacular. Next time, I will stick with wine and appetizers.  The hummus trio was great, and I think the boys enjoyed their coconut shrimp.  I also really liked the lobster bisque I had to start, but the steak and shrimp special entree I had was not up to par for the price.  The steak was overdone and the shrimp was just ok. The incredible service (manager Dennis brought us a free yummy chocolate dessert!) and the views are certainly worth the experience though. I would definitely go back, but as I said, next time will stick to wine and small plates.

What's there to say about one of the best restaurants in Northern Kentucky. I went to the Chart House on my birthday this year with a friend because I was craving a steak. I received the Callahan Prime Rib medium rare, and had enough for lunch the next day.

Soup, delicious. Service, awesome. Sunset, gorgeous... I would highly recommend the Chart House to anyone, but would forewarn that you should be expecting to spend a few bucks. For 2 of us, no alcohol, was about $100.00 + tip.

Chart House was all good to me. It been a long while since I last visited the Chart House. But I was not disappointed. Early reservations on a Saturday night were not needed. Seated promptly. Hostess was quick kind courteous and helpful.

Server Zak was right there for a drink order and dinner rolls. Appetizer order and a specials explanation. We  ordered the stuffed mushrooms that were Yummy. Ryan had the Callahan Prime Rib Medium rare I ordered the house cut medium rare prime rib both entrees came with Calgary mashed potato's. I ordered the salad with house dressing Ryan had the soup. We both ordered soft drinks and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

Zak did a GREAT job he was very attentive the food was  prepared and served to perfection. May be I am getting old but $120 including tip with no alcohol for two seemed a little high. I understand its the Chart House and maybe this is why its been 8+ years since I last visited.

Terrible......deserted that were not what we ordered......th e manager literally running in the restarurant to make right what was falling apart that night......groups that had been waiting for 3 plus hours.......I must say that the Chart House use to measure up to Ruth Chris but not after New Year,s eve......we paid our $125.00with a respectful tip but were totally blown away by our terrible experience.......What happened? All I can say is: Location, Location, Location....and virtually nothing else.

Essentially extremely overpriced 3 star food in a 5 star establishment . Considering the 25-40 dollar entrees I expect at least 4 star quality and it just isn't here. The steak is tougher than it should be and the fish often greasy or dry. I could get that at applebees for half the cost, I expect better from Chart House. If you are all about the riverside view by all means go here, but if you are really looking for some quality fish, go to Mitchell's Fish Market a minute down the street.

I will start this review off with a pro. The food was great and the view of downtown was just as good, especially at night.

The con: I have never had such disrespectful and poor service at a restaurant before. Which is even more surprising for a restaurant as "nice" as this one. My family arrived excited at trying out a new place, but will never return here again.

We had two waiters, and one was respectful but the other was awful. He had an attitude with us the whole night, commented on how cheap of wine we had (even though we ordered 5 bottles), and seemed to always have a smart remark to our questions.

To end the painful experience it took the two waiters around 30 minutes to give us our bill. Granted we had a large party, and needed the tickets split, but they treated this as if they were trying to cure cancer. We had to correct them multiple times, and they constantly made the same mistakes. In the end we wasted 3 hours at a restaurant with good food, but service as low as I have ever experienced. I recommend everyone think twice about going here. Unless you like good expensive food and being treated as if you are a hassle.

Food is overpriced, boring, and service is scripted & robotic. I saw them cooking vegetables in a plastic bag in the microwave and the 'lobster meat' in the lobster bisque is crab meat from a can (not kidding). The only thing keeping this place in business is it's view of the river, and even then, you would be much more satisfied at Bulkhead's, Montgomery Inn (The Boathouse), or anywhere in the Levee. Don't waste your time, energy, money, or embarrass yourself. Be creative and go to one of it's far better suited riverfront competitors if you want the view that bad.

My pre teens and I enjoy eating at various places several times a week, as i am NoT fond of baking, nor cleaning the mess.    We used to go to the Chart House on beechmont/125 in OHIO and I expected things would be similar,
I enjoy places such as Greyhound tavern all the way to casual Indigos and Barleycorns.  This was a nice place, but when you go expecting the PRIMA VISTA (overly advertized!) it is a bit dissappointing, especially the hefty $$  tag .

Think Hoggy's does them one better

We go here to celebrate various events roughly 2 -3 times every year. Been going since around 2007. I read the previous reviews and though I agree it is pricey (which should be expected for fine seafood dining)... I disagree that this establishment does not meet "fine dining" criteria. Our fish is always served hot, fast, and fresh. The white table cloth formal dress environment is kept spotlessly clean and is generally well below the "dinn" level noise of something like my other favorite fine dining establishment "The Precint"... add in the spectacular view of the city skyline and it makes for a very romantic setting. I've never once encountered a waiter who was pushy or unknowledgable. Never once encountered a "smokey" atmoshphere. Never once felt forced to pay for valet as they have two lots right next to the place that are free to park in. We always park in the hotel lot right next door for free and avoid the valet lot all together. If you do go here order the "shrimp beignets" which are always available but not always on the menu. Best seafood appetizer in the city right now hands down! If you want a cheaper but less fresh seafood experience Joe's Crab Shack is next door. Other seafood options around Cincy include McCormick & Schmick (over priced and not as fresh IMO certainly no skyline view) then there is Jeff Ruby's Waterfront which is just "so so" and still pricey in my opinion. Mitchel's Fishmarket you will be dealing with the "mall crowd" and food that is arguably average to as good as charthouse depending on how busy it is. I've given it two chances to top Charthouse now and it was failed in quality both times despite costing me around 30$ less. Bottom line is that the seafood pickings in Cincinnati area arn't all that great right now I'm sorry to say but Charthouse does manage to give you a good meal at least.

Pros: tasty, fresh seafood; great views of downtown Cincinnati and Mt. Adams (particularly at sunset/night); cool/unique architecture and feel inside; free valet parking

Cons: very expensive; service can be overly scripted to the point of being pushy (caveat: it was our server's first night); smoke from the bar is pervasive (bar area is raised and right in the middle of the restaurant)

Tips: go if you want to impress a date/spouse, but be prepared for a spendy night (most entrees $30+ and other a la carte items are high too, e.g. side salad for $8) and request to be seated as far away from the bar as possible. The seafood really was delicious (try the Mixed Grill), so if you don't mind paying and aren't super smoke sensitive, give it a go.

Hubby and I had not been here for several years, but were looking for a nice place for Thanksgiving dinner, perferably one with alternatives to the traditional fixings. Overall we were satisfied, especially given some of the problems that confront restaurants on holidays. Service was good. Unfortunately we always forget that smoking is still permitted in Kentucky, until we're confronted with the unpleasant smell wafting over our food. We're not militant or anything, just really prefer a smoke-free atmosphere while we're eating.

Our crab-stuffed mushroom appetizer and chopped spinach salad were tasty and well-prepared. Hubby reported being happy with his grilled salmon. I had a pasta dish prepared with lumps of crab and several large shrimp. I didn't notice when I ordered that the shrimp would be breaded and fried. The breading was extremely thick and tasted like the oil had been used a few times too often. Probably a cost-cutting measure to make the shrimp look extra-jumbo on the plate.

Chart House is pricy, given that it's somewhat upscale but not really what you'd call "fine dining." Two cocktails, an iced tea, one appetizer, one salad and two entrees ended us up with a total tab including tax and tip of $130.

We were VERY ANNOYED that they basically force you into valet parking, having closed off their entire parking lot to the public. It's not so much the tip we mind, we just don't like turning over our car and keys to someone else.

Another reason I try to stay away from chain restaurants.  I have to agree with Kyle and say that it is overrated (but what chain restaurant isn't?).  The prices are extravagant and the food does not even come close to measuring up to its price.

They try to up sell you by asking if you want the lobster toppings or whatnot.  It was way too salty in my opinion and it overwhelmed my sea bass.

Nothing special here...maybe except the view of downtown and Mt. Adams.

NOTE- Whenever I eat at an establishment I look at the following factors: quality of service, quality of food, price of meal, portion sizes, and the restaurant ambiance.

The Charter House restaurant in Bellevue, Kentucky has a spectacular over-the-river view of the Cincinnati skyline. Known for friendly service, the layout of the establishment is spacious open seating. With carpeted floors, the acoustics are not too noisy. Warm colors, ambient and pinpoint lighting, and colorful fish paintings adorning the walls make The Charter House feel comfortable and a place to bring friends or work associates.

For starters, I ordered the Lobster Bisque. The presentation was nice - the bisque came in a little kettle shaped bowl complete with handle and lid. The soup was ladled over a small mound of lobster meat at the bottom of the bowl. The flavor and serving portion was just right.

For the main course, I had the seared scallops with bok-choy and coconut rice. The soy and sesame dressing added the right amount of flavor for the scallops. However, it was overpowering for the rice, not allowing the coconut flavor to come through. Toward the end of the dish, much of the rice was left swimming in the soy broth. After finishing the meal, instead of tasting the full ensemble of flavors, I was left tasting lots of salty soy, garlic, and sesame.

I would recommend the chef ease up on the sauces. This seems to be an ongoing issue for many restaurants I visit - dishes swimming in sauces. Perhaps a better approach for this entrée would be to offer the soy mixture on the side for dipping the scallops.

All in all, I would say The Charter House is a nice place to dine. However, the lingering soy taste prevents me from highly recommending this restaurant.

Of course the food was excellent and the view can't be beat, but on the night I was there the service was inattentive and very slow. We had to frequently remind our server that we needed drink refills. He seemed focused elsewhere. We first wondered if it was because we chose to sit outside, but for a restaurant of this reputation, that shouldn't have mattered.

We had oysters on the half shell as an appetizer and fillet and seafood entrees. My husband has been to this restaurant many times on business and says it's always a good experience. I guess we were just unlucky on this particular evening.

While the Chart House doesn't live up to it's claim of "spectacular dining," it certainly gives diners exceptional views of Cincinnati.

We visited the restaurant on a Wednesday evening.  We had no idea what to expect from Chart House, so we dressed pretty casually.  Our mistake...every other diner had a dress or jacket on.  Thankfully, the host assured us that we were dressed appropriately and took us to our window-side table.  We were both immeadiately struck by how gorgeous Cincinnati land the Ohio River looks at night, floor to ceiling views at the Chart House make this a highly romantic establishment.

After checking out the salad bar (strange for such a nice establishment, but other diners seemed to love it) we decided to start with lobster bisque.  The soup was dynamite; creamy and spicy and a beautiful presentation to boot.

My Sea Bass was good, but then, it's pretty hard to screw up such a buttery fish.  Mitchell's Fish Market's is better.  My dining partner's crab cakes were phenomenol, mostly crab, little cake=just the way I like them.

Final notes:  dress up, order the crab cakes, and don't expect to get out of this place cheaply.  You're paying for the ambience, not the food.

OVERRATED!  This place has a spectacular view of the river and the Cincinnati skyline, the atmosphere is what you would expect from a place with $25+ entrees, and the crab cakes are great.

The problem is their food is nothing more than average, but you're still paying a premium for it.  The portions are also very dainty.  When you're about to spend $100+ on a meal for two, you want to leave stuffed.  I left satisfied, my meal was fine, service was standard, but definitely not what I would expect from a semi-formal dining experience.

If you want steak, hit up a Ruby restaraunt.  If you want seafood, McCormick & Shmick.
