Father's Day lunch. Place was pretty full thankfully we had a reservation.
Service was 5 star! Really got lucky with the servers we got. Food was pretty good. Tortillas are freshly made. Rice and beans delicious!!! Their fajita platter was three times more onions than actual meat/chicken but it was good. Also tried the quesadillas...EXCELLENT!!! The flan was not so good.
Another positive... Mariachis performed.
Restaurant is really loud but food and service are really good. Oh and margarita way too strong for my taste.
Throughout the years I had enjoyed Chevy's but I must say that for the last three years I've had the worst experiences ever. I had two waiters mix up our food twice in the same day. I have had a hair inside the food and they had the nerve not to replace the plate. I must say am very unhappy with this place. ;( The manager didn't even apologize for the inconvenience of my child almost falling on the floor because  of their crappy high chair that was broken on the bottom.  Am glad that we manage to grab the baby before he hit the floor. Am not visiting this place again. Very disappointed.
Review Source:We do NOT recommend this restaurant. We went to celebrate a birthday. It was a group of 30. Only one person took care of us and after a while another came to help. They were rude and very slow. The food did not taste fresh and it looked different from the pictures on the menu. They did not bring a dessert to one of the guest and the waitress said she brought it and that was that. They did not make an effort to explain the mishaps. We all agreed we will not be going back. It was a terrible experience.
Review Source:Overall very poor quality of food. The portions were alright, the beans straight out of a can, the chicken (I had a chimichanga) without much flavor, I was disappointed to say the least. The server was nice but not very attentive. The interior, however was very inviting and well kept. If you're looking for a good Mexican place, this is not the place to go.
Review Source:After seeing this place several times I finally made it there for a friends bday. What can I tell you other than what the 2 stars say?
Chips and salsa: chips had no salt, salsa was watery
Not enough guac, way too big of a portion of the chicken chimichanga. Re fried beans where just so so, and well it just looked like it had been sitting on the plate for a while.
Poor beer variety, and last but not least...the "DJ" sucked..terribly. I must have heard the same song maybe 3 times and I was only there for a couple hrs.
Indeed this place deserved a "meh, I've experienced better"
smh..someone please do something to change this and maybe I'll come back for a second chance.
Of all the times I've had Chevy's, I only recently sat down in the restaurant to have their food. I've always had their food catered. Frankly, the experience is better than Taco Bell. I'm not saying the fine institution of faux Mexican cuisine is anything too special... frankly they would get one star if they were lucky... but Chevys isn't a standout of the crowd.
The good... Service was fine. I wasn't expecting white glove service. Servers were knowledgeable and friendly. They helped me figure out what I wanted in their menu. No complaints there.
The mediocre... I ordered the salmon fajitas. I found the salmon a bit dry and charred. Only after I finished eating did I realize that the giant try of food was almost in the shape of a trough. Don't get me wrong, it was clever to have a very easy way to carry the four plates involved in my entree, but the rice and re-fried beans weren't really necessary. I never bothered with the poor excuse for fillings (lettuce, sour cream, et al).
The not so good.... I ordered a house margarita. It was watered down. I really wanted to hope that a Mexican establishment could get a margarita right. They didn't.
Bottom line: I'd try something else next time.
Man o man.. they just keep making the wrong changes. After ruining the best item on the menu(Carnitas).. they've gone a step further and done away with the best brand of tequilla they had(Asombroso). They also changed the happy hour specials and the crunchy tacos have too much beef and not enough toppings.
I normally don't base any part of my ratings on the staff/service because I feel it should be all about the food, but I will make an exception for extremely poor service as well as extraordinary service. It's always been the latter at Chevy's, so that is the reason for the second star.
I had not been here in a while, but was craving the chicken flautas with the mango-japaleño jelly so decided to take a drive out there.  I was very disappointed with the flautas -- it was very greasy!  You could actually see the grease dripping on the plate.  Needless to say, I could hardly finish my dish.  But I did enjoy a nice cold beer with their delicious chips and salsa.  That was their saving grace.
Review Source:This place is similar in looks to another texmex style restaurant named On The Border. The relation ends there. Chevy's is more like the loud drunk Uncle at the party that everyone wishes would call it a night. The bar area turns into a club around 8pm drawing the over 40 spanish crowd. If this is your thing then enjoy! If you are here to eat... well, good luck. We put our name down for a table but the bar entrance is right next to the host table so if you don't stay super close there is no real way for them to call out your name as the reggaeton coming from the speakers is so loud you aren't going to hear anything & will be scratched off as if you left. Once we got our table the waiter was nice, the food was average & the drinks were so-so. Not an overall disaster but I highly doubt I will return. Hope this helps.
Review Source:Came here a while ago, Hoping that i could finally find a good Mexican restaurant in
Miami. Anyways once we got there, there was no one at the front, there were people waiting also.. we waited for a while until we were finally acknowledge.
Food we meh! i got the Quesadilla, and at best it was OK..pretty bland, yes the portion was pretty good, but that's about it.
Any who, they had a bar area which seem to be more alive then the actual dining room area. The drinks were good, AT LEAST.
This was my 2nd time at Chevy's. First time was eons ago and I don't even remember what I ate.
Yesterday The Boyfriend and I visited Chevy's because he had never been here and I have a love for Mexican food.
I ordered a skinny margarita and chicken/steak tacos. I definitely recommend steak, anything there. I just can't describe how juicy and tender the meat was.
The Boyfriend ordered the mixed fajitas with pork, chicken and steak. Let's just say, he didn't even finish HALF. It's an immense amount of food for $17!
I definitely enjoyed myself and Chevy's and do plan to return in the future!
My experiences here have ranged from awful to pretty ok. It's far from my first choice for Mexican food but it's ok for an office lunch trip. Their margaritas are pretty tasty - but I think any sort of alcohol is pretty good around noon.
I am quite fond of their sweet corn side though.
I must admit Chevy's is a guilty pleasure of mine.
I'm very fond of the Carne Asada Fajita Platter (1/2 & 1/2), only complaint about Chevy's is the huge inconsistency every time I order Medium Rare.
Drinks are strong, staff is very nice, Happy hour ends at 7:00pm, our waiter let us slide when we arrived at 7:10pm. A small touch, that went a long way.
I recommend
Btw for some reason the bar turns into a 30yr+ night club (hilarious for people watching)
We go to this location often and have never been disappointed. Â The prices are reasonable and the food is good. I'm not a huge fan of spicy stuff but my husband is. It seems as if they have TWO different salsas. Â He got one and I got a milder one. You just need to ask. The chips are addicting and have always been served warm & crisp.
I LOVE the steak fajita and my husband gets a combo thing that brings a TON of food.
Service has always been quick & efficient. The restroom (ladies), albeit clean for the most part, is pretty blah and the lighting is horrible.
Okay, now I'm hungry and craving fajitas!
This is one of the two Chevy's I've been to! And I'm not that much of a fan of this one.
1: the salsa didn't really have much of a kick
2: the chips tasted like if they had been left out in the open for a few days *yuck*
3: I could sip the margaritas like nothing; which means there was no tequila in them.
4: service wasn't great.
The only reason why I'm giving it two stars was due to the amount of food for the price; yet the "spicy" stuff, again, didn't have much of a kick one would expect of Mexican food!
I have often visited this Tex-Mex restaurant during lunch time on weekdays. We decided to visit last night and had a very different experience. First, the bar area is actually a club, with a DJ playing dance music. The bar area becomes a dance area, with too many bodies squeezed into that tiny area. The women are dressed with their best clubbing outfits-tiny dresses and too high heels. The Malibu Rum girls were walking around with samples. In the same restaurant, there are families, trying to enjoy their meals.....
The food was great, like always, no complaints there. We decided to eat in the outside terrace area as it was a cool night. Again, no complaints on the facilities.
My biggest complaint of the night was my bill. They automatically add 18% tip for all bills, regardless of party size (there was only 2 of us), if you are in the bar or outside dining area. There is no visible notification of this policy posted in any area of the restaurant.
If I wanted a nightclub, I'd don my best stilettos and hit up South Beach. I wouldn't, however, expect hard core clubbing at Chevy's Fresh Mex, of all places.
We were looking for some Mexican food, and it was kinda late, so we ended up at Chevy's. The place was booming, dance music blaring and a bar full of clubgoers dancing - skantily clad females and all. Wtf? I went to the bathroom and there were all kinds of tipsy, man-hunting chicks who couldn't be more rude.
We were led to the dining room and got a booth. It was packed, kids, families, everything. I wondered if they were expecting "In Da Club" one room over ...
Service was ok. Server was nice enough - I don't generally expect 5-star service at a chain. Food, also ok. Tableside guacamole was pretty tasty - can't really go wrong there. Shrimp tacos for dinner. Shrimp was fried, and I'm more of a grilled kinda girl, but overall it wasn't bad. The margaritas we ordered, however, were pretty bad. All sour mix - ug. They were two for one, so I'm guessing they go easy on the alcohol. I wouldn't rush back here ... that's for sure, but the food element was palatable - it was the clubgoing atmosphere, crappy drinks and sketchy people that left a bad taste in my mouth.
I have to agree with Carla on this one-If there were negative stars to be given this place would CERTAINLY get one!
I was all excited we went here because days before I was asking a friend if it was good or not. Much to my surprise it sucked monkey butt.
Ok so I went hereeee lets see on... Saturday, with about 12-15 people for a pre-wedding dinner get-togther kinda thing. Â We got the back of the restaurant, which turned out to be a downfall because our waitress kept disappearing on our table. =/
The chips and salsa that they serve while you wait for your food was so bad. The salsa was so watered down, I couldn't taste any of the spices! Salsa is supposed to have a freaking spice to it!
We ordered our beverages and food, and the waitress got everything right but the bartenders and cooks DID NOT! Lets start off with the food situation... blah. no zing, no whoohooo, no HOLY CRAP this is some awesome mexican food! just ehh it is in front of us... whatever lets eat. Now the drinks... when I go to a restaurant, I like to have my nice margarita on the rocks. PFFT, it was pitiful to even call it a margarita. After we are all done eating bland reheated food we ordered shots. Took them and again pitiful, I don't even think there was alcohol in them! So we complained, the waitress replaced them with another round, and again horrible. My girl Tee and I decided to try the bartender out one last time and ordered a lemon drop. He failed for the last time. I should have known then that if the bartender didn't  know how to make a margarita he certainly couldn't make shots.
Now get this, when the bill came they charged me, I, for everyones shots, that were terrible. So complained of course, the waitress got the manager, and Lazaro came out. Oh Lazaro... you are a horrible manager. While we explained to him that I nor any one else was not paying for the shots, he is pouting, rolling his eyes, not even looking at any of us during the conversation. He finally spoke, and spoke with attitude. In the end he took it off the bill.
When we left we wanted to speak to him, but when he saw us coming he ran.
Horrible experience, will never come here again!!!!!
chevy's FRESH mex? really? nice title considering you don't offer FRESH food.
oh chevy's! your management will be getting a letter from me real soon...here's the breakdown from my recent visit...
margaritas: decent
shots: terrible
food: terrible, reheated, and nearly gross.
our party ordered a round of redheaded sluts. they were terrible. so the waitress was nice enough to give us another round. that round was also terrible! so the bill comes and the shots were on the bill...no way we were paying for them after both rounds were terrible. so the manager comes around, lazaro. he was very unprofessional to say the least & almost refused to take them out. he eventually did, but our poor waitress got scorned when it wasn't even her fault! in all actuality, it's the bartender's fault- he made shitty shots twice!
the manager handled the situation very poorly. he should have apologized that his establishment made such terrible shots & not tried arguing it.
i will NOT be coming back here.
Forget the problems and remember: Best.Chips.And.Salsa.Ever!
And...great margaritas too! (I just hope there's some tequila in them).
This Mexican chain has had its share of ups and downs, as this onetime regular can attest. But, the one constant are those killer chips and salsa. The chips are from fresh tortillas that are made on an automated torilla maker that is displayed near the front of the restaurant. Or, maybe that's just a gimmick; either way, it's a cute and charming idea.
The salsa is like nothing I have had anywhere else - it's just a perfect mix of ingredients. Not too watery, not too spicy, not too anything...just right!
The best choice for food is the selection of two (or three) choices for a low price (under $10). You can pick between various quisadillas, burritos, flautas, chimchangas, etc. My favorite is their chimichanga; it is huge and slathered in a cheese sauce (fat free, of course....right?). Plus, it increases your chance of having at least one of your selections being tasty, as the food is really hit and miss here.
For dessert, I have found their flan to be reliable, if not remarkable.
I go to Chevy's at least once a month for lunch and I have to say it beats most options in Doral. The only time I have ever had problems with service was when I was at a going away luncheon and the servers had to do separate checks for 20 people and there is no way I can fault them for having difficulty with that!
I find that for the price and location, the food and service is consistently above average (not saying much for Doral, but still). I am a big fan of their tortilla soup (sadly, I think it is one of the best in Miami) as well as the fresh salsa and tortillas.
For those of you in the military, take note - all uniformed personnel receive a 50% discount on their meals at  Chevy's. A lot of people do not realize this, but Doral has a strong military presence and it is refreshing to see business willing to support its troops.
This placed totally sucked today - after a weird piece of crap came up the straw on my wife's drink, we waited for over 15 minutes to let the waiter know, at this point we didn't want to make a big deal, simply replace the iced tea and carry on -
However, after waiting so long, I finally get up and go searching for a waiter, and they are all in the back sitting at a table casually shooting the breeze as if us paying patrons are just a bunch of idiots, and she sees me coming and promptly gets up and makes a bee line to our table.
At this point I get to the goofing around table and ask the waiters if they are on a break or something and these snot nose assholes shoot me back a dumb ass remark suitable for lazy ass loser waiters.
So I figure I will not drop a dime in this dive and I promptly go back to our table and politely ask my wife to leave the place with me and she happily agreed -
20 minutes later we are drinking beer and ordering good food and spending money at the Ale house-
Chevy's .... you sucked today ... for the last time !
If this place could get a negative star it would. So I wanted some Tex Mex and we go.
It was mid afternoon on a Saturday, there were a few patrons. Not many - about 3 or 4 other tables.
So we order and get our Iced Tea, our chips and salsa. Chips and Salsa ran out, we were hanging so the slow service and disappearance of our server is no biggie as we are talking and all. After about 15 minutes (salsa and chips are gone, don't forget this) and I am drinking my Iced Tea and i suck something weird through the straw.
I do not know if it was Chicken or a wad of paper but it was disgusting. I look at the bottom of my Tea and there is more of whatever it is on the bottom. Mind you I was hungry and was willing to overlook it as long as they changed it for a new one.
I am looking around for our server, nowhere to be found. We wait, I keep on looking around. Nothing, and the place is HUGE and there is absolutely no one to stop and ask for another Tea.
Finally after about ten more minutes (way past the time where we should have seen her again to ask us if we are OK, if we want more chips etc, but nothing) my husband stands up and SEEKS her out. She and approximately 5 other servers are sitting at a table in the back looking at pictures on each others cell phones and when she sees him jumps up and runs around another way to avoid him and comes straight to the table.
I tell her about my tea, but by then not only was I grossed out and misffed because of this but my husband and I just needed to leave. The other bunch of servers had just been jerks to him.
The food has never been good enough for that kind of service. Where was the manager anyway????
NEVER again.... ever.
its a mexican restaurant that seems to think its a dance club on friday night?
pros..
none. the food was nothing to get excited about.
cons..
the service was really lousy. the waitress kept disappearing until we spoke with the manager and advised him that maybe she was overworked and needed help. the service improved somewhat at that point.
6 of us dined in. it was 2 for 1 so we ordered 2 margagritas (4 drinks). the first set of margaritas should have just been called watered down lemonade. the manager fixed it. the food came out and it was ok. i've eaten here before they had this dance thing going on in the bar area and the food was much better.
when the bill came they tried to charge us for the margaritas they replaced. 2 for 1 does not mean take one good drink and water it down to make two. we argued and they fixed it.
all in all it wasn't a good experience and i personally attribute it to this mini dance club thing they've turned the bar area into. they seem to be concentrating efforts on the bar and forgetting that the sign outside says restaurant.
the girls said the ladies restroom was a pigsty. the garbage cans where overfilled, the floor was wet and paper towels where everywhere.
i wont be returning here on a weekend night for sure. may try it again when they aren't trying to play night club.
So, yes I love, love mexican food. It's not the best place, but it is fun, good upbeat atmosphere.
I mainly come here for there awesome margaritas.....to many pitchers everytime I go visit. :) so goooood
Service is decent-could be better, sometimes the waiters disappear.
Another favorite thing is their chips and salsa.....The chips are always fresh and very light not thick like alot of other establishments.
Always order the fajitas, and they are edible. I have had better but they are o.k.
The hostess, and managers seem to really try hard at making sure your enjoying your meal.
Tamales- not so good.
Quesadilla-pretty good
I will have to say, I was here for "Cinco de Mayo" and man five star all the way.....fun party, so many people, we got lucky to get in with VIP passes, booking a month prior. Music inside and outside was hopping. We had so much fun.....
By far this is the place to go in all of Miami.
When we left at around 1:30 a.m. it was crazy fun, but hubby had to work the next day. :(
Will continue to visit as I really do enjoy coming here.
I was just looking through a list of possible restaurant chains that may close this year and Chevys was one of them. Sure Chevys is not the best Mexican joint around but the food is decent, the prices even more so. The margaritas are the best thing they have. Well, now that I think about it I can see why this place would close for the same reasons I have stated. I like it better than On the Border for sure!
I usually get the faijtas when we come (the bf and I). The carnitas fajitas to be exact. They are delish! Then again, not everything is. You have to know what they make well.
We've always had good service at this place, considering we usually come like an hour before they close. LOL!
I like it. It's nearby and cheap and the margaritas are awesome! But, I'm not going to be sad if it goes.
I wanna like this place. I really do. But they never seem to completely make me happy. Every time I go there, have a meal, and think, 'okay, it was great today" I'm disappointed in some other way. Last time, I found a piece of a sponge pad in my food. The waitress and the manager were surprised and upset. We got a free meal but still; I pass by this place and the memory of sponge pad in my food lingers in my mind.
One other time I had a mariachi band play their crappy music in my face during my lunch with a friend. Wtf? Totally unnecessary.
I hate the tamales. Ew. Why are they sweet? Maybe I'm just used to the cuban style tamales.
Other than that I have to admit the food is pretty good. Fresh and mostly tasty. The drinks are good too. I enjoy those a lot. I keep going, in hopes that the next time I won't have a problem!
I've been to Chevy's a few times and I've never been disappointed!
Whether you like spicy mexican food or not, its awesome! They have happy hour, and on the weekends the have a dj and dancing area. For your birthday you get a big Mexican hat... The drinks are reasonably priced.
The margaritas... ARE AMAZING!!!!!! Absolutely perfect!
Best mexican food and margaritas I've ever had!
Visited Chevys last night. It was my first time back since my recent "vegetarian decision"...sooo..as I looked at the menu I did not see anything that did not have chicken, beef etc. I was thinking to myself...what am I going to order now???. Thank God we asked the waiter for a veggie alternative and he offered a Spinach/mushroom enchilada! that wasn't on the menu. It was delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. better than the ones with meat .
I was so happy and pleased with his recommendation. Came out feeling happy and pretty full.
Even when u think a restaurant might not have a Veggie alternative...they surprise u with hidden options u would have never tried otherwise!
Chevy's was a big chain in California before they started popping up here in miami in the early to mid 90s. Down in Doral, it used to be an awesome place but ever since the franchise owner decided to do things his/her way  it nearly destroyed its business. Fortunately they returned to the chevy's franchise and re-adpoted all of its original glory.
Food portions are still pretty large..although they've gotten thin with the meat amounts on the fajitas..they still offer a great tex-mex menu. Their 2-piece and  3 piece combos are the best values there..
They also have one of the better/tasty salsas in miami. Although the chips tend to, at times, come out a bit greasy and salty..
This is also the home of the BIGGEST cinco de mayo party in miami.
