They were the farthest thing from accommodating to our family with two young children. Hostess was extremely rude.

We went early on a Saturday and asked for a table instead of a booth. The hostess seemed put out and said they didn't have any tables available - it was 440pm and the restaurant is huge.  There were no customers around but us and there were three restaurant staff standing with the hostess.  None seemed willing to help us find a comfortable spot - even a booth with more space for our small carseat would have worked.  We ended up leaving and my husband kept looking back anticipating that they would come out and encourage us to stay and find a spot.  They didn't.  We felt very unwelcome and it's a shame because we live nearby and definitely won't go back.

We've gone there in the past and had dinner as a couple at the bar and it was fine.  But this locale seems to cater to seniors and clearly not young families.

1 star, simply for the cute little pond found at the entrance.  My partner and I dined here on Sunday for brunch.  The service was slow but friendly.  It took ten minutes to get our drinks, lemonade and a very cold cappuccino, and when our meal arrived, not only was the plate horrible to look at, it actually smelled like garbage.  I ordered the Creole breakfast, the grits were uncooked and the shredded cheese just sat on top of this grainy mass as if refusing to blend in, the filet was chopped into two pieces and the eggs looked like they were powdered.  Needless to say, the food was TERRIBLE.  My partners MC Platter meal did not smell, but it was less than average.

I have only visited this resting during happy hours but every time ive gone there I was very please with the service and very happy with the food. The Pricing for the food is amazing 6-8 dollars for 1lb of wings or a burger or crabcake sandwich. The beer prices are pricey during the happy hour, however i believe on Wednesday they have a 12 dollar wine night which I didnt go to but thats bang for the buck !

I went here last night for the happy hour.  Even though the prices are low during happy hour, I thought the hh menu was very limited and, seeing as how it was my first time here, I was not told about the raw fish bar.  That was highly disappointing.  Other than that the service was fine.  The restaurant decor is a little tacky.  Kind of looks like a fisherman's man cave.  All around, the food was not half bad, but the ranch dressing that came with my wife's wings was more like white water.  The full priced menu looks a bit expensive for a family restaurant, so I would probably not come here outside of happy hour.

    Food: 5 stars
Service: 3 stars (way too slow)

I really enjoyed our date night here. The food was so yummy. The decor is also very nice. My only complaint was with the service-I really hate having to flag a waiter down so that was annoying. They took forever to bring our check and to refill our drinks. It wasn't a busy night so not sure why all the delay.

The Bombay chicken salad was yummy and bf enjoyed a jerk chicken sandwich. Oh and it helps that this place is within walking distance to my place. Can't believe I haven't been to this gem before, will definitely be back here.

    Food: 4 stars
    Service: 4 stars

Came here for happy hour, which was 50% off for raw bar on a Monday 4-7pm. bf and I ordered 2 dozens oysters ($29.95) and a crab/artichoke dip ($6). Perfect! We started with some fresh bread and their whipped butter was really good (it's rare that I remember to note how good a restaurant butter is!) The assortment of oysters we ordered were all very good, even the briny ones that I usually don't enjoy--nothing was at any extreme of the taste spectrum, and every oyster was fresh. The crab and artichoke dip was creamy but not too heavy or salty. So good that we finished it down to the last bite and even ate the oyster crackers that we frowned at in the beginning.

We left full from the bread but not too full go into food coma. Waiter was attentive and friendly, but never intruding.

Tip: remember to let your host know if you want to order from the hh menu, because you can only seat in the front room for hh!

I've been coming to Clyde's for many years- mainly at lunch . Went to dinner tonight for my wifes birthday and observed many of the same problems in other reviews. Food was pretty good, atmosphere is upscale, but service was shabby.
Arrival felt like coming in to a  Chili's,  with names being yelled out, and people being herded off to tables by robots for the amount of personality they showed. We tried to order dessert but waiter took so long to come back to get order that we gave up and just ordered coffee. When that didn't come after 10 minutes we just paid our bill and left.

Went to Clyde's tonight expecting something good, but we might as well have gone to Applebee's.  The food was very bland and not worth the high pricing.  The service was extremely disinterested.  When the server came back to tell me that they were it of my original order (chicken.  They were, apparently, completely out of chicken.  With so many chicken choices on the menu, they should have been able to do something besides simply having the waiter come back out and state, "We're out of chicken" and standing over me while I read the menu, not even offering me alternatives or suggestions, just looking at me with his pen in hand.  This is the worst kind of service, the completely indifferent.  We will not go back.

Food was ok and we dared not get crab cakes like we did last time. Service was bad again.  Look, this is the first time since last time that I gave a ZERO tip.  I am pretty generous, but lady didn't even return to give us drinks that my husband complained to manager.  Why do I always get crappy service at this place. That's why we will never come here again. Never fails. I get better service at Chillis or Olive Garden!

The food was very nice and the service was attentive.  I found the parking a little weird with having to pass through a gate to get in, but everyone enjoyed their meals and we had a decent sized party.

Consistent disappointment.  We tried and tried and tried - because there are no other options in the area - but it stinks consistently. Food quality is very poor.  Most of the food was frozen or from packages. Service quality is hit and miss - mostly miss.

Overall, Clyde's is a pretty decent restaurant.  I have always had good service and great food.  Enough to make a naysayer a believer.  However, the Alexandria location is by far my most favorite Clyde's.  Their happy hour specials on the raw bar and wine bottles is amazing! If I still lived in Alexandria, I would be here weekly.  (Not daily, because then I would have a drinking problem...right? )

If you enjoy oysters and wine, then it gets no better than Clydes.  They also have second round of HH that starts at 10PM.  Does it get any better? If so, please let me know.  In the meantime, you can call Clyde's my Cheers, when I am in the area.

Bar talk, tells me that the wings are great here, also.  But I am usually so focused on my oysters that I haven't had a chance to try them.

It's a great place to go for drinks after work or grab a quick bite to eat. Happy Hours specials are decent and having both the front and back bar is nice. The burger is fantastic and the salads are terrific. Nice atmosphere too! My only complaint, and it really isn't one, is that I wish there was more chair seating. There is a lot of bench seating and if you get in one of those long benches, you feel like you're 8 trying to scoot out. Not the most flattering when on a date. :)

I'm not going back....ever.  We've been going to this location for years but it's slid in food and in service quality. Yes, the decor is wonderful. Yes, the koi fish are lovely to look at but the food is bad. We had meatloaf and it looked and tasted like something you'd get in a school cafeteria if the lunch ladies were drunk in the kitchen. Our waitress was polite but slow. It took way too long to to get a dessert menu and by the time she showed up with it we didn't want anything. I think because Clydes is the only upscale restaurant in the area and because they have a "captive" audience from the hotel and office buildings they've gotten a bit complacent.

Came here on a Saturday night for dinner and was really pleased.  It has been a year or two since my last visit, certainly before Mark Center really opened up.  I was happy that it hadn't changed much and that some of my favorites were still on the menu.  As always, my food was delicious (chicken picatta) and my beer cold.  One difference was that there was a captivating singing duo at the bar!  Loved that!  They even had a list of more than a hundred songs you know and love to pass around for requests.  That was pretty kick A$$!  I know I'm not letting that much time pass between my next visit again.

I've been coming to this Clyde's for over ten years, mainly for the "Afternoon Delite" bar specials, the raw bar (also half priced during happy hour), and a glass of wine.  The West End of Alexandria has very little to recommend it (we have low rents, a good sushi place, and a good Harris Teeter...not a lot else), so the Clyde's is a bright spot of living out here.  I usually bring houseguests here when they arrive if I don't feel like cooking for them and they always ask to come back next time they're around.

The food is consistently good (except for the cole slaw....you never know what kind of cole slaw you're going to get, sometimes it's good, sometimes not, but it's cole slaw and therefore a bit player in the overall meal).  The staff is great, and it's just a comfortable place to be.  The patrons are a mixed bag (as is all of the West End), but mostly everyone's cool.

The landscaping is exceptional enough to note it in a Yelp review...there's a koi pond out front and they've actually won an Alexandria Beautification Commission award for the place.

One annoying thing is that the landlord recently put in a parking gate to keep the BRAC people from parking there all day.  You can get your parking ticket validated, but I always forget and have to go back in.

ProTip:  If you're getting the wings (which I do often), ask for them to be "double dipped"...My bartender recommended this recently and now this is the only way I'll order them.

I am have been a customer of Clyde's of Mark Center since the late 90's.  I have in the past had some wonderful meals with family and friends for various occasions. I could always count on my experience to be consistent. My recent visits in the past few months have been sub par on the food delivery and customer service. In my experience, Wait staff seem to  immediately size up their customers for  the potential tip by the gross check value and deliver service according. If you don't have a bar tab with your meal, don't expect the same attention to detail I had grown accustomed to over the years. Staff seem to have sense of entitlement to a gratuity based on the size of the check.  That's unfortunate for the customer.

My recent trip to Clyde's on Easter Sunday 2013 was marred by consistent fumbles by the wait staff delivering the main entrees after food had gotten cold. I kindly escalated to management and the food was re-prepared and missing the details of the first order. The manager offered desert and coffee on the house after the fact but never directly with me and my guest. The staff obscured the gesture with the delivery of the coffee and desert ten minutes apart. When I received the check, the check charges were incorrect. There was no management follow up after the multiple service fumbles. I spent more time trying to get someone's attention than enjoying the meal. On an Easter sunday afternoon, the pace of business was not overwhelming such that I would expect nothing more than normal delays. A management change or a long period of time will need to pass before i repeat any business with this Clyde's location.

I love this place and this location.  It's super close to my home and it's a bit pricey but we know that going in.  This location has, I am guessing here, a Latino chef, maybe Peruvian because there is some special Peruvian/Latino style dishes and I always get them because they're always great.  Especially stew or whatever, freaking amazing.  The service is great, food is great, great for open table reservations (to get those points right?) and I just love them.

We have gone for Valentine's Day and it was nice.

I don't drink so I can't say anything about that.  I look forward to the monthly specials that are always a deal and super tasty.  Love love love and love this place.

Clyde's is pretty good, definitely a huge place that can hold a ton of people. It's nice to go to a restaurant where the music isn't blaring and you can actually have a conversation! We went here for my girlfriend's grandmother's birthday, and we definitely enjoyed ourselves.

We started with the pear salad and calamari. The salad portions seemed to be pretty small, especially since my girlfriend and I spit one. The calamari on the other hand was a huge portion, which was nice.

I had the Shepherd's Pie, and it was all around a-ok. Nothing to write home about, just your typical Irish fare shepherd's pie. My girlfriend had the porkchop and it was definitely a huge portion, looked pretty good and she seemed to enjoy it.

When the bill came, I was a little shocked at how much we had racked up. Four people ended up being about two hundred bucks after tip. We didn't eat anything too fancy, I mean we weren't ordering filet or something crazy off the wine menu.

I'd go back and give it another chance. It was an enjoyable experience with great company, which sometimes makes the dining experience that much better.

This location is always busy but nice.  Staff is great, the food is wonderful.  One of few places I would actually get raw oysters from.  Never gotten sick from them.

Great for intimate date nights or to go as a group.

They have different themes in different "rooms" which sets up different ambience for each room.  This is great.  One room you feel cozy, one room you feel romanticand another you feel cozy.

    Great restaurant.

I can't say enough of Clydes....Its the best place ever and as convenient as i can be, walking distance from my house.

There staff is very friendly and with this comes a great service. I have had many of there dinner plates, my all time favorite, the filet mignon, however when visiting for happy hour 4-7, the buffalo wings and crab cake sandwiches are of the best I have ever had.

The wings can be ordered double dipped. That is, baked, sauce, baked again to a golden crisp. You want to add to this some fries on the side as a compliment.

Whether its for a casual dinning, happy hour or just a special dinner with the family, Clyde's is the place to be.

Great bar, but I think of myself as a crab cake sandwich expert (not necessarily Maryland crab cakes) and their crab cake simply cannot stand up to the one at Mike' American Grill. Don't bother ingesting the Cole slaw.

Made a reservation for a Friday night dinner here wanting to change things up just a bit. I was personally looking for something inspired, unfortunately I didn't find it. In hindsight I would have been better off going to 5 guys.

With that being said there were some bright spots to the dinner, but they never outshines the disappointment.

The starter was the pretzel crusted Mac n cheese, my wifes choice, I wanted to try the pork belly but got vetoed on the choice. What we got was just what it sounded like, a medium size bowl of a queso cheese mac, with a pretzel like crust. Pretty good way to start the meal off.

Then came the entree. I can only speak for myself, my wife hasn't commented on her crab cakes, but I got the seared duck breast, with whipped potatoes and green beans. Again, I was looking for something a little different.

The duck tasted, as I said before, uninspired. The meat was decent quality, but the work on the searing and the glaze (?) was suspect. I couldn't tell if the highlight of the entree was the duck, the glaze, or the side dish. It tasted very bland and almost as if the chef had neither tasted nor correctly paired the dish together. The flavors didn't mesh well, and again, left it feeling uninspired. Maybe my expectations (for 18.50) were too high, and I should have settled with a chicken sandwhich or something. Regardless, I won't be returning unless it's for some kind of happy hour event.

LL Bean fused with a rowing club.  Thow in a bunch of senior citizens, and you've got a party on a Saturday night.  Not really.  But, thats what you get at this Clydes.

Not that I really mind, because its a nice break from the Ethopian and Middle Eastern restaurants in this part of town, the crowded family restaurants in Shirlington, or the crazy crowded young bars in Clarendon. This is a nice, quiet, average place to eat. Its kind of entertaining seeing all the ladies dressed up in their sequins and pearls that just got their hair done that morning. Its not all seniors, there are some younger people, but its definately not the place to go pick up chicks. Well, unless you're 75.  However, like I said, because its quiet and not crazy crowded at the bar I enjoy going with the boyfriend and chatting the night away.

I had the Pumpkin ravioli with sherry sauce and toasted walnuts. The ravioli was good, but it was smothered in a heavy sherry/cream sauce with carmalized onions. The beauty of the fall squashes is that they are so robust without having to smother them with flavor. I would have liked it better if it was a simple brown butter sauce instead.  The boyfriend had a chicken sandwich with clam chowder and said it was good.

The decor is a little weird, but this location is good for a family outing that you bring grandma too. Or, if you're a couple that wants to go to a quiet place, this place is enjoyable for me because its just different than everything else around and the food is ok/average.

    Dined on 09/18/2012

Ordered the fish and chips dinner, when I broke it apart with my knife, I realized the fish still seamed a bit slimy and hard to tear.  Cooked fish should break easily and when I started to cut it even more with my knife, it was still hard to break apart and the color still looked raw....needless to say, I took a small bite and YEP...I WAS SERVED RAW FISH!!!

I told the server that the fish was still raw, he seemed lost as if I was speak another language so I told him to replace it with a burger.  A few moments later, the manager came to me apologizing and asked if I would like something else.  I told her I already requested a hamburger and she then asked if there is anything she could do.  I told her no ( a good manager would comp my meal in my opinion right then and there).  When my party received the check, they charged my for the hamburger.

Won't return NOR will I recommend any of my friends to visit Clyde's.

    Letter C:

I'm a co-organizer of a Northern Virginia trivia group, and we tried this place on Monday, April 30 because we heard that the trivia gives a $100 gift certificate prize for 1st place.  Since our first place win on 4/30, we've been here a few more times.

All of the food I've ever eaten here was very good.  Last time I was there, I tried the $6 chicken sandwich happy hour, which was even better than the regular priced items.  The bartender is very friendly and helpful with questions about food items, which a curious mind like mine usually has...haha.

Definitely would recommend Clyde's, and in fact, it is back on our trivia calendar next Monday.  I'm looking forward to it!

I rarely go out for lunch during the workweek, so when I do, my hope is that it will be at least worth the time away from the office. In the past, Clyde's has barely, but still met, this mark. This time, Clyde's was mediocre at best, shameful at worst.

The restaurant was only probably 30% full when we went, and yet it took over a half hour for us to get our salads and soup after ordering, which obviously required no additional cooking. We asked for bread to start, which was fine, but probably the saddest, most stingey 2.5 slices I've ever seen.

I was really excited about my camembert and blackberry salad, which sounded excellent. It was far, far from that. I don't know how one messes up a cheese as delicious as camembert, but somehow the kitchen at Clyde's managed to. It was neither creamy nor sweet. It was just kind of, there. The hazelnuts, which I think were supposed to be toasted, were equally bland. And I think there were, maybe, three blackberries?

Note to Clyde's: don't ever, ever deign to enter a chili cook-off. My dining companion got a bowl of said chili, and it was borderline inedible. It was so cloyingly sweet, it honestly tasted like you were eating a bowl of weirdly chunky ketchup. This was so bad, in fact, that our server actually took it off the bill. (He was nice enough, probably the best part of our dining experience.)

Even if the prices at Clyde's were half the obscenity for lunch that they are, I would not return. Honestly, I doubt if you could pay *me* to waste an hour of work for the food there.

What's the big deal about this place? The interior looks like an LL Bean catalog vomited on an Abercrombie and Fitch-- or whatever other department store fetishizes Old Timey Rustic Americana. Maybe a Cracker Barrel would be more of an apt comparison, considering the sheer amount of too-obvious fishing paraphernalia on the walls-- but then, the prices certainly aren't in the Cracker Barrel league. I've heard plenty of people raving about the fish that Clyde's serves up, so I went in hoping to find a plethora of inventive fish dishes. Crab cakes, tuna, salmon, catfish and skate-- the lone oddball. The only thing remotely interesting here is the Moquetta, which I would have tried if I was in the mood for stew.  Really? And 12.95 for fish and chips?

    Please.

I can't complain about the food quality, which is where the extra star comes from, but the prices are far out of line for what is offered-- this isn't a "fine dining" restaurant any more than a Ruby Tuesdays is, but if you work in Mark Center, are having your lunch comped by your business or you don't want to make it out to any of the other "business lunch-oriented" places out there, I can understand why someone would come here. Our service was polite, if incredibly rare-- it took us ten minutes for the server to come back and take our check.

Maybe the Happy Hour is something of note. I wouldn't know. Is Northern Virginia so bereft of a decent crop of bars that people resort to going to a goddamned chain restaurant to get shit-faced? I can understand why places like Clyde's exist in the DC area, but I don't have to like it.

I've been to other locations but this one is the most consistently good. I mean I like Clyde's in general because of their fantastic menu (many but not too many choices, several healthy ones, some innovative, some classic). I particularly like their salads. My friends love their crab cakes. In that location they used to have a pork belly mac n cheese which was great (obviously not in the "healthy" category I mentioned earlier). Love their wine selection too.

The big issue for me of course is the prices. Average price for a salad $15? For lunch?

For HH only...the late night hh specifically....WOW!

I am impressed! and so was my eating buddy...what a great suggestion of mine ;)

10pm-12am M-F, half off raw oysters + their normal hh bar menu...

2 dozen oysters later + crab cake sandwich (tons of crack...oops, i meant crab, barely any filler) + the pork belly/pork booty (butt loooool i just feel weird eating something with the term butt in it, but somehow booty is better???? lol) sliders (um..........this one was seriously such a pleasant surprise...a delicious, flavorful slider...it was so good that we had to order two orders of it) + the jump shrimp cocktails were fresh and delicious!

I can't even pick out what I enjoyed the most because everything was so great and yummy and most importantly, fresh! Service was fast AND super friendly from the great Ben at the bar. I can't wait to go back for the late night hh!

This place just seems like a place filled with regulars and I absolutely recommend coming here for your late night eats! (late night eats are kind of like eating pork belly....oh sooooooo bad for you, but really just SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOD!!)

The Alexandria Clyde's location is set to get a big boost in business thanks to the introduction of the Mark Center. A lot of the employees there will surely see the sign, become intrigued and be drawn in by to the over-done hunting lodge theme (it reminded my Alaskan friend of home).

I would caution those newcomers to the area that Clyde's is priced fairly high and the quality is on par with Applebees. Go for the cheap stuff and you're probably okay. Everything else is a joke when compared with other places nearby in Old Town and further out towards Little River Turnpike.

Cannot recommend anyone go here until the menu changes and the prices move in-line with the quality.

    Yes.Yes. Yes.

For the quality of food, consistency and service you get at this place, it is a GREAT value and one of my fave area chains.

Having worked in restaurants, I pay attention to the details and it's the small things that set a place apart. I love how Clyde's sets a pitcher of water on the tables for you to pour at your leisure and pours martinis from the shaker table side. Small but thoughtful gestures.

At this location we usually sit on the enclosed patio. It is less formal than their dining room and kind of noisy, which we actually like when out with our two young children.

As critical as I can be, I honestly think the food here is very good--especially at the price point and being a casual eatery. And it is always at the top of my list when considering where I can take my kids, eat well and not impose on other diners if they get cranky.

My vodka gimlet (up) was wonderful and poured from the shaker tableside.

The pork belly appetizer was phenomenal. The flavors on the plate worked together perfectly, and this appetizer could easily pass in an upscale restaurant.

My crab cake entree was also excellent. I opted for the one crabcake and it was more than enough filling (I brought some home with me). Loved the sauteed spinach and fried parmesan potatoes that accompanied.  Interesting setting for a crabcake that worked well.

Finished with the S'mores coffee drink. Also very good--not sure it was worth $10, but it was a nice finish to a very enjoyable meal.

The food is edible, doesn't completely lack flavor, the restaurant is great for those who lack an attention span (lots of stuff on the walls...), pretty lively, and the service is, well...the service has always been interesting, to say the least.

I came here recently out of convenience. It was late, we needed food, this place just happened to be open until midnight on a Wednesday, AND was around the corner from where we were.

I ordered the French onion soup, though I've never been fond of it I thought I'd give it another shot. Nope. I still don't like French onion. There was nothing particularly wrong with how Clyde's prepared it, I was even told that what I had tasted like it should. Too sweet for my taste I suppose. But if French onion is your thing, go for it - it was piping hot with lots of gooey melted cheese on top.

He had the crab chowder and that was just okay.

You're definitely not missing out here.

Great buffalo wings and bleu cheese dressing!  Awesome happy hour specials which they also offer during Sunday's when NFL games are on.  DirecTV Sunday ticket here, but with only 5 TV's in the main bar, it can be tough getting your team's game on a TV if its crowded.

    Great crab cakes too.

    **3.5 Stars**

This Clyde's location holds a special place in our family's heart.  The Koi pond out front that everyone comments on...my Dad built it.  Whenever we go to this location for a family dinner, my Dad happily points out how he built it and most importantly how he made special grooves into the rocks to change the flow and appearance of the water for the mini waterfalls.

I love my old man and always look forward to seeing the pride on his face as we walk past the Koi pond on our way into and out of the restaurant front door.  :-)

Unlike some of the other Clyde's locations, this one isn't as packed and crazy (namely the Chinatown and Tysons locations).  The staff has always treated us well and seem happy to find a spot for our ever growing family.  The theme of this restaurant is noticeably a sea one with boats, paddles and images of fishing all around you.

If this location is ever busy and you need to wait for a table, mosey on over to the bar, order a cold brew and some crab dip or a dozen oysters.  As long as you have some great company and your beer stays cold, the time will fly by.  BTW, now that Yelp is integrated with Open Table, I think we won't have to wait too long to reserve a table for our family.

The staff are friendly, attentive and are always checking in to see if you need a drink or if everything is okay.

The clientele are a bit on the older side, which I see as a pro because the place is never crazy loud or filled with popped collar frat boys.  If the older crowd is not your thing, come here after 7pm when the early eaters have left and the crowd will be more in the late 20-something early 30's.  I like old people (they remind me of my old teachers) so I don't mind dining here around 4:30/5pm.  I just make a note not to cuss up a storm lest I'll receive some serious stares from the geriatric folk around us.  :-)

"Sorry ma'am, didn't mean to say that!"

    So what have we learned?
    1)  Antonio's Pops built the Koi pond
    2)  The later you come to this Clydes, the less crowded it'll be.
    3)  If you come here before 5pm, don't curse too much or too loudly.  :-)

I truly enjoy this Clydes location and hope that we'll continue to come here year after year.

I normally eschew the chains. All that corporate artifice and focus groups and branding. Soul-less machines the lot of them. Clyde's is our own local mega restaurant corporation and I kind of like it. You know, I will never get to all the Starbucks on the planet but I think I am only one or two shy of having eaten at every Clyde's on the planet.

Anyway - this is proto-typical Clyde's which means decent food, good service and they have made an effort on the decor. Apparently Henry VIII used to have a Hunting lodge in this part of Alexandria so they have gone for the hunting and fishing club feel. Very pleasant it is.

If you are  - as I was - trapped in meetings in the nameless corporations who surround this place - then this is a welcome respite for you.
