Went here for lunch with a work colleague. Service was okay. Utensils dirty. Napkins cheap. Food was just okay -- nothing that you couldn't get at the prepared food counter in Shop-Rite (and maybe not as good). I am fine with charming, quaint old-school luncheonettes, but it doesn't look like the owners here have invested $1 in the place in forty years. The bathroom is the smallest one I have ever seen, and except for the toilet, the room was filthy and very run-down. This place is not what I'd expect in a town like Bernardsville. If the food was unique or delicious, I'd say fine. Otherwise, I can think of no reason I'd go back here.
Review Source:This old-school diner is like a dive bar but for food, I love it. You know the famous Edward Hopper picture of the people in the diner? Â That's this place in 2012, only without the cool glass front. Â
Three of us enjoyed a great lunch here. We sat in a booth and admired the stools at the counter. Â How many places still have a counter? There's table service and the help is pretty good about refilling your drink.
I got a grilled cheese with tuna, it would be a tuna melt anywhere else. Â Six bucks for an enormous sandwich that was perfectly toasted. Â A side of fries was done golden brown and crispy. Â
Bring cash, but you won't need a lot. Â We'll definitely be back.
