The food and service at Coops has always been mediocre. Tonight it was abysmal. There was an extremely loud party that upset several of the tables. The waitstaff tried to get them to quiet down. Service was very slow, perhaps not expecting the large loud party? And food was undercooked. Our food and drinks ended up being on the house because it was so bad. We won't be back.
Review Source:I have always been a fan of Coops and still would go there which is why I am giving them three stars. Â The food is good especially the turkey tips, burgers, sandwiches. Â Recently went there on a Saturday night and the food took so long to come out we finally just called it night and left. Â I would have looked at this as an exception however was there about a month ago with friends and the same thing happened. Â I did let them know and the waitress felt awful. Â We had drinks and two appetizers and after waiting another hour decided it was time to go. Â I will never go there on a Friday or Saturday night again and will think twice in the future. Â They have to figure out their kitchen problem and the ability to get food out. Â Otherwise not a bad place!
Review Source:From the outside, you think this is a divey bar- but it's actually really big and clean.
Service was great, all the waitresses are great, and do a really good job. One talked us into the drunken buffalo meatballs, and we're certainly thankful for that! Can't wait to try it out on one of their pizzas.
On Mondays and Tuesday, cheese pizza is $3... rest of the weeek its $5. Great crust, not too buttery.
It gets packed on game days, so head over early!
Been here a few times for trivia with my friends. The outside it looks like it may be run down. There is parking next to the building, and across the street. Inside it is huge, adn very clean.
The trivia is done in a room apart from the bar which is good.
Our service has always been great.
I am in love with the honey buffalo chicken fingers.
I am also in love with their crinkle cut sweet potato fries (you read that corectly).
Nom. nom. nom. om nom nom :)
If you...
...like to say things like 'yeah dude she's a f-in crazy old lady'
...enjoy watching a Boston sporting events while chanting 'yankees suck'
...yearn for a bazooka of bud light to share with NOboDY
...or want to meet a man that likes these kinds of things
you cannot go wrong with Coops. Â
it is seriously a townie sports bar... but here is the catch- their food is actually very very good. Â the staff is surprisingly attentive, accepting and nice (even when confronted with a few REALLY boyish EXTREMELY gay lesbians at the bar) and the beer/liquor selection is pretty damned impressive.
I wouldn't go again, since neither myself nor my friends would ever be interested in a tower of Bud Light, (plus i live in Boston) BUT- if that is your crowd... and you live anywhere in that area... Coop's is pretty kick-ass.
Came in here tonight (Saturday). Â Our group was seated away from the bar area because we were with children, but right away. Â The room was well suited for them. Â The waitress in the area kindly put on Sponge Bob, I'm not sure how happy the other patrons were, but the kids were happy. Â
The waiter was attentive and very patient, esp. with all those kids, so kudos to him. Â
However, the food took a long time and I didn't particularly find it anything to rave about. Â The popcorn came out after being requested. Â The kids meals came out in fashionable time. Â However the apps came out kinda of late. Â But since the kids meals came out so fast, they were done before the adults got their meals. Â Not the best timing. Â Kids aren't always patient, so they were up running around while the adults were trying to eat.
I ordered the grilled steak tips medium rare. Â They were cooked to medium. Â Which I didn't particularly care, as long as they weren't well or the other extreme rare. Â They did taste good. Â So I have to say...they do them better than ...the pub 99 i guess. Â I had veggies on the side and they were abundant and as good as steamed can get...
One of the guys I was with ordered the pastrami sandwich. Â He said he hadn't had such a good one in a long time. Â Another couple kept raving about the salads and the pizza. Â Salads looked typical...and the pizza looked greasy.
Apparently the chili is good, as well as the asparagus side order. Â Neither of which I had.
So in the end, timing of food coming out was just bad, food was okay. Â Would I come back, no. Â Would I opt for here over say a chain Pub 99 yes. Â It was someplace different.
I have been here a couple times and just sat at the bar, the service, and food/drinks were always pretty good.
Came in here recently with about 8 or 9 friends and sat at a table in the bar area. We went to the bar to watch a celtics playoff game and instead they were watching golf, the simpsons, and the red sox? We asked the bartender and our waitress to put the Celtics game on at least 5 or 6 different times, they finally changed the channel once other patrons started complaining and ended up missing almost the entire first quarter.
Our waitress was very pleasant, but completely unattentive. At one point she was sitting folding napkins at an empty table we waited a good 30 minutes for another round, we finally went to the bar to order more  drinks. We usually drop a couple hundred dollars at a bar easily, and she didn't even give us that chance.
I wouldn't go to coops unless your planning on going with a couple people and sitting at the bar all night.
I came here around my 21st birthday to have a beer with my father and get some lunch. I ordered Chicken Marsala, which I was not a huge fan of. The flavor of the mushrooms seemed to overpower the sauce and overall, the dish was a bit on the dry side. I would recommend getting a beer here but please note it is a Sports Bar, not really conducive to a party atmosphere. I would recommend you give their micro-brew "Coop's House Brew" a try.
Review Source:My friends and I stopped here on by chance as we were headed to the South Shore Music Circus. Parking was great. They had a lot in the back and across the street.
We were seated as soon as we walked in and our server was great and friendly. He immediately got us a pitcher of Red Hook Long Hammer IPA, and it seems like they had a good selection of beer on tap.He also brought us a bowl of popcorn which was nice to have something while we waited. It didn't take long to get our food either. My steak tips were good, I got the half order with fries and was satisfied. If you have a big appetite get the full order. The menu was pretty big and it seems like you could get anything in a bread bowl.
Everyone at our table had a view of the Sox game on a different tv. This place looks like a local sports bar full of happy souls. Would go here more often if I lived in the area.
Love Coops.
Great for:
cheap pitchers of beer and large mixed drinks.
great staff, super friendly but can take a bit longer on very busy nights.
watching sports, if you're into that. they have at least 10 wide screen TVs.
good pub style food, and cheap pizza nights.
popular menu items -drunken buffalo meatballs, taco salad, veggie burger w/sweet potato fries, anything in the bread bowls, steak dinner.
and occasional people watching (the guy with the band-aid on his nose who sits at the bar looks intimidating but is quite interesting to converse with).
Coops is the go to place when we don't know what to do that evening.
Coops is great. Â It's a great place to watch the game, grab lunch and have some drinks. Try the turkey club sandwich, it's really good!! Sandwich was huge, and tasted great! Â The food and drink prices are reasonable, and the staff is very nice. Coops is also very clean, which is a plus. Plenty of space at the bar, but probably not for UFC fights. We have tried to go to Coops a few times but there hasn't been parking, so we had to go somewhere else. Â That's why they lose 1 star.
Review Source:Over the past several months I've been coming to Coop's quite often as it is within walking distance to my new place, which is really the only saving grace.
Everything about Coop's is hit-or-miss. Â The service is absolutely awful 90% of the time. Â When you can manage to get one of the older servers you're golden however if you get one of the younger women you may as well just belly up to the bar as you won't see much of them and when you do it's hardly worth it. Â Last night for instance it was nowhere near busy and I sat for over ten minutes before I saw my server and over the course of the 90 minutes I was there she came by no more than five times to take orders, drop off drinks, and the check.
The pizza is good, it's fairly over priced so I recommend going on Monday-Wednesday nights when they have $2 cheese pizza with $1 toppings but it's not worth it otherwise unless you're just going with a plain cheese. Â Other than the pizza the drunken buffalo meatballs are great, buffalo chicken is alright, nachos are great, chili is spicy and really hits the spot. Â Basic pub food.
The beer selection is typical of a local bar nothing special, decent prices. Â Plenty of televisions. Â Keno. Â It's really got everything you need but doesn't go quite far enough to make it an enjoyable experience.
Overall it's not bad. Â Try to sit at the bar or search out an experienced server and you should be all set.
Parking is scarce here. Even without a major sporting game on TV. That just shows you how good they are. Â There is additional parking across the street.
Came here for the first time last night and was pleasantly surprised. For a Quincy bar, it was very spacious, clean, TVs in every corner, large bar, and really good inexpensive bar food - pizza, wings, fries...you name it!
Seating inside at the bar may be scarce too. Just chill by the bar or entrance and scout out a table that may be leaving soon.
Free popcorn!
$2 pizzas that are HUGE! It's basically a mini pizza all to yourself. I don't think the $2 deal is everyday but I know it works on Wednesdays! :) Â The pizza takes awhile so make sure to order it first.
Coops has officially lost a star and more than likely a regular customer. They started charging a cover for the fights! And $10.00 at that. How do you go from no cover to $10.00? I was shocked when we went in on Saturday night like we always do when there is a UFC fight to be asked by the owner at the door for $10.00 each. i thought about saying no and leaving, but we were already there.
What makes me the most disappointed about this cover charge is that Coops is packed on fight nights. Like can barely move packed so they have to be making a killing on these nights. L and I along had a $85.00 tab that night from drinks and food and then we always tip our bartenders well. I can't be spending an extra $10.00 on top of that when your not even guaranteed or likely to have a seat. It's just disappointing and feels a little greedy to me.
Also, the owner kept some seats at the bar reserved for a good 30 minutes next to us for a "special customer" the bartenders were getting so many complaints from people without seats who wanted to sit down and order food and couldn't. The bartenders expressed their disappointment with the decision of the owner to many people because lets face it, their losing tips, the place is losing business and its just a bad experience for everyone who has to stand behind these empty chairs. For the record, the kid (seriously) who came in eventually with his girlfriend mentioned how he had never even been there before and helped the owner fix his iphone.. I guess that was why he was a special customer. He also spent the majority of the night with his tongue down his girlfriends throat. I have no problem with PDA but at one point the owners wife had to come over and start banging on the bar for them to stop. haha.
But really Coops, get rid of the cover. it's just a slap in the face to the regulars who spend a lot of money there.
My wife and I come here ALL the time. Â Their food is reasonably priced, and their pizza is especially cheap! Â The best bar pizza you'll find in the entire city, hands-down! Â All of their other food is also delicious, and when I'm not getting the pizza I choose something different each time. Â I haven't been let down once! Â Their portions are very generous, as well!
There are TV's in every possible direction, the bathrooms are clean, the service is *usually* fast and friendly (the only exception is when it's packed to the doors during a football game or UFC fight, but they do their best with the overwhelming amount of people they have to wait on).
I'm not really into going to the bar to watch sports (I prefer watching at home), and I usually strongly dislike sports-oriented bars, but this place is my favorite bar in the city. Â That says it all!
Overall: Â The best blend between restaurant and bar you can get, with some of the best prices you can find!
This is the ugly step sister of the attached Yesterday's.  Bartender  was a pony-tailed biker looking guy who personified his stereotype of the surly bartender.  Un-observant. Watched him count his tips while my glass sat empty.  Was visibly annoyed that I asked him what the Coop's Brew was.  Dropped the tab in front of me.  I observed no one else had a tab in front of them.
Yesterday's next door has a friendly staff, fun karaoke, and much more fun vibe.
Coop's is a great place to grab something to eat, drink, and watch the game. There's literally a television in every direction that you look!! I love bar room pizza and Coop's has some of the best around. When my girlfriend and I come here we tend to stick to the staple, cheese and pepperoni but it you are feeling feisty try the Drunken Monkey Buffalo Meatball pizza, it's like a spicey/sweet meatloaf pizza that leaves a kick in your mouth. Â
Coop's is one of the only place's I know that shows the UFC fights with no cover. That being said, come here early because it gets packed!! It's a great atmosphere for the UFC fights too, one where it doesn't matter who you came in with because everyone ends up talking to the people next to them about the fight. I've had 20 and 30something's, to a guy in his 80's next to me and I couldn't think of a better crowd to be with. You would think that after spending a few hours somewhere drinking beers and eating pizzas that it would get expensive, but Coop's doesn't even come close to breaking the bank. Well done Coop's, well done!!
This is my favorite sports bar on the South Shore. There is hardly a wait for a table, which is surprising because the food and the service are exceptional. They have the greatest popcorn that they bring you with your drinks, the staff is very attentive and friendly and the food is fantastic, specifically the pizza! They have a separate restaurant area if you don't like the "bar scene" and it's usually pretty quiet in there. Prices are fantastic, and to make it better, they have lots of coupons in the Entertainment Book and through Tropicana Rewards. Can't go wrong!
Review Source:The food here is AMAZING! Â No matter what kind of food I am in the mood for, they have it...and it is delicious. Â All of the apps are great, the selection of dinner entrees is huge. Â Never go here if you are looking for a quick meal though, when we go we know we arent leaving until at least an hour later. Â I'll credit the slow(er) Â service to it always being busy and the food being perfect every time.
Review Source:Maybe it's because I'm no longer in my early 20s, thinking that free popcorn is the ultimate restaurant experience, or maybe its just because I'm writing this review after NOT having spent an evening chugging beer at Coop's bar but, whatever the reason the review is simple: The food in this place stinks...really, really stinks.
I went with two friends. Â I had the haddock with roasted potatoes. Â It was god-awful. The fish might have been ok but whatever they seasoned it with was vile. Â The potatoes had obviously been in the cooler since the last World Series; they were limp and tasteless. My one friend had the shrimp scampi. Just forget it. The pasta was like paste, the shrimp not browned in butter but boiled and thrown on top. Â It was just foul. Even the bar food - the nachos with chili - didn't work. And the drinks...well, they got the beer right.
Ok, that's it. Â Go for a beer. Go for the TVs, go because your softball team just won. Â But definitely do not go for the food! Â It doesn't get much worse.
I've been to Coop's a few times with my friends, and although it is rather dive-y, you can't help but love the $8-15 pitchers and bar food. Â I would probably give Coop's a 2.5 because I don't necessarily like going out of my way to come here-- only when I am meeting people right after work. Â However, I've feasted upon their nachos, jalapeno poppers, and cheese pizzas before, and they are pretty tasty...greasy, but isn't that why you order them?
For the sake of my list, I will go into detail about their nachos. Â When I first came to Coop's many, many months ago, I spied the other table's platter of nachos, and it took a lot of restraint to not ask for some of their's! Â This platter is beastly...a sight to behold. Â A few trips later, my friends and I were finally able to try them. Â Coop's nachos include chili, jalapenos, cheese, black olives, diced tomoatoes, and onions on top of tri-colored tortilla chips. Â They also come with sour cream and salsa on the side. Â I thought the nachos were good, but they just didn't meet the high expectations that I set for them. Â I'm not sure if I would order them again because, although they definitely give you enough bang for your buck, I was turned off by the almost stale chips and "chili" that was too watery and lacking enough meat. Â However, our great server was more than happy to bring us more cups of salsa and sour cream which
Overall, their nachos were better than many places I have been too, just not just top of my favorites. Â However, I will probably come back to Coop's because it gets me out of my own hometown bars and restaurants. Â It is a huge place with great service and a not-too-sketchy crowd. Â If hungry, I'll order their jalapeno poppers or pizzas again-- those are very satisfying.
For my "Nacho Average Reviews" list: almost 3 stars.
the review below mine pretty much says it all. Â great food, great atmosphere, great staff. Â
this place is very low-key during the week, although it seems like it gets pretty packed on weekends. Â lots of TVs and pro sports games on, but not a lot of belligerent drunk attitudes, or at least i havent seen that yet. Â the vibe has always been chill and pleasant when i've been in there.
their pizza is very tasty, the other apps are great, they bring you popcorn with your beer, and they are fairly attentive with refills :) Â the staff friendliness is exceptional and is probably the reason i enjoy this little place so much. Â
that, and watching the Celtics :)
That $2 Pizza deal Mon-Weds is a great deal. Pizzas are also tasty and filling. Coop's is a good place to come with a group to grab beers and a bunch of bar pizzas. I've been here twice and the service was great each time. I didn't really like the Coops Beer but they do have a lot of other beers on tap. Pitchers of domestic stuff are about $8 while the other beers will run you about $12-$15/pitcher. The jalapeno poppers were excellent and I must come back to try the nachos. They looked soooo good. My apologies to the other table for staring and basically drooling as I eyed your nachos.
Review Source:I had an awful experience here regarding the service.
A group of us wanted to grab dinner, we were told to sit on the bar side because there was a large party in the dining room and only one server was there.
We sat down at the bar and waited about 10 minutes before anyone came over. Â The waitress came and took our drink order and gave us a menu. Â She came back 10 minutes later with our drinks and took our order. Â About half an hour later, we still got nothing. Â We couldn't even get a hold of the waitress to ask about our order, so we went up to the bar to ask one of the employees. Â He checked the system and said the order was just put in. Â We then asked to speak to the waitress and she was no where to be found. Â There was no apologies, nothing what-so-ever. Â The other employee we spoke to kind-of just shrug his shoulder.
TERRIBLE SERVICE, I WILL NEVER GO BACK.
It's tough to find a bar that has the 3 essential ingredients of being Great.
1. Great Atmosphere
2. Great Food
3. Great Staff
You'd be hard pressed to find a more asthetically pleasing bar in Quincy (The Fours excluded). A dozen or more TVs show everything sports and all UFC pay-per-views which you will not find anywhere on the South Shore never mind just Quincy!
The previous review about frozen food...BS! There is very, very little frozen food here. The food is just awesome and the specials are always different and delicious. Try the Drunken Buffalo sauce on just about anything...just amazing! Great pizzas, the house made marinara is chunky and tasty, the onion strings are handmade and devine...I've never had a bad meal here.
You'd also be hard pressed to find a better, more attentive staff in the State! Very knowledgable bartenders, great servers and the kitchen crew is great. Always friendly and always ready with another beer!
If you want a good time with an even better meal, check it out.
Everyone here is very friendly. The bartenders and the waitresses are cute, the food is well priced, and surprisingly, much better than typical bar food! The owner even comes out to greet you and knows you by name. You can park here or take the bus here (220, 222). Lots of plasmas and they can show multiple channels at one time. They'll be glad to change the channel for you by request.
I think Tues/Wed nights are pizza special nights. VERY inexpensive. My friends love it!
My favorite is the stuffed seafood mushrooms. Better than I've tasted at any seafood restaurant! The burgers and tips are very good as well. It's typical American cuisine.
They used to have trivia nights. It was pretty easy to win points. Each time you won, you'd win a ticket. At the end of the night, they'd draw and give away sports tickets. We won Celtics tickets the first time we played!
They are working on an entertainment license for music, etc. They also sponsored my bowling team (Coops T shirts)!
I can even walk here :)
I've only gone there and walked to the left(Bar area). The food is good time and not expensive. Average priced. They have pitchers of beer, which I don't see too often. The place was clean, good atmosphere and the staff seemed friendly. Great place to watch a game, went there for Sox  and Celtics.
Review Source:A great restaurant! We were looking for a good weeknight meal at a non-chain restaurant that would please the adults but also offer something for the antsy, picky 4 year old in our party, and we found it here.
Among the adults, we had steak tips, fish and chips and the twin grilled chicken breast. All were delicious and generously sized. Our littlest diner had a grilled cheese which looked pretty good, too! Service was prompt and very friendly, and the prices are extremely reasonable.
Because of Coop's bland storefront, it kind of blends in with the background, and that's a shame. There's ample parking behind the restaurant, and the restaurant itself is clean and welcoming. We'll definitely be going back!
Fantastic food.  Some of the best  sweet potato fries I've ever had.  They cut it crinkle style and it's fresh.  It's also the first time I ever had American Chop Suey and Coop's was absolutely the place to try it.  Steak tips here are also pretty good.
There's a good amount on the menu that looks interesting. Â Buffalo bourbon meatballs, fried mac and cheese and a bunch of other stuff.
It's also one of the cheaper places I've encountered, yet food quality does not suffer by any means for this. Â They also have $2 pizza Mondays and Tuesdays, which I have also yet to try.
