The owner is a complete loser-the guy, not the women owners. Drunk, loud, obnoxious as he sits and drinks at the bar. Then from the bar stool he "manages" everyone & talks horrible about the customers?!  His stance-its his bar!  Nice. When he is not there, Great place,  great staff. GREAT SERVICE & great food. Lose him, gain business.

WOW!!  between my fiance and I we ordered 2 dozens of oyster, and 20 chicken wings.  The reviews on here were right, the wings are yummy!  I like that they are very lightly battered and the sauce is not overwhelming.  Everyday 3pm-6pm is happy hour .99 cents draft beer.....   .50 cents on wings, shrimps, and oysters.   Wasn't too sure about the oysters at first, but they were big and fresh!!  our waitress Ginni was very sweet and attentive, she is a gem!

    We'll be back for oysterssssssss

We have been sampling the area's hot spots and and this is a killer bar/restaurant. We will go back for more. We gave this 4/5 stars because it isn't the greatest location with respect to the beach. It's a little off the beaten path and you kind of sit next to a parking lot. That said, the food and drinks were awesome and service was stellar.
We had the peel and eat shrimp (best we've had so far...and we have high standards) and grouper bites. We would love to try more.

Cooters is my favorite tiki bar restaurant. Great menu. Turtle bites, alligator bites, fresh grouper sandwiches raw clam bar.  Great bar. I love Cooters. I use to come here all the time when I lived in Clearwater. Every day is a vacation at Cooters

We had a wonderful dinner experience. Both food and service left us very happy. The wings were good, my husband's grouper was extremely tasty and my all you can eat crab legs ($27.99) hit the spot. The crab legs were a tad on the salty side for me but the flavor and texture were superb. They were very high quality. I will be coming back!

All you can eat crab on Monday/Tuesday is awesome. Friendly staff and walking distance from most hotels. Will definitely go again.

The food is just OK.  Way overpriced for what you get.  Nothing memorable about eating here but the name.  It almost feels like you are at a want to be Hooters that offers a little more selection.  Have no desire to go back.  The place next door has a lot more to offer and better prices.

Cool place to catch a game, drinks and food. Service was great, not to far from Clearwater beach and other attractions.

Grouper cheeks were outstanding lightly blackened. They had incredible flavor and texture. Truly worth the trip all by itself.

Wings? They have them. Get them Daytona style with the tequila sauce. Fantastic.

And I had the Super Grouper Sandwich with the red beans and rice. Oh. My. God. A fantastic meal with wonderful texture and flavor. Outstanding.

We went to Cooters for the first time last night, and will definitely be back.  The service was excellent, and we had fried alligator for the first time, and it was fantastic!  We enjoyed some  Happy hour offers of oysters for 50 cents and beer on tap for 99 cents.  Our main reason of going there for the all you can eat snow crab legs however was a disappointment.  The only taste to them was of saltwater,as if they had been sitting in a big tub of saltwater soaking up water inside.  They came out and replenished our empty plates quickly, and each time they were wet, some more than others.  Unfortunately I will never be interested in going back for the all you can eat crab legs again, but I will go back for the alligator, and to try the other menu items, such as the grouper.  If you want to get watered down, unflavored, salty tasting crab legs, you might as well just get them in a Chinese buffet for cheaper, ( who also have them sitting in water, but not as salty), IMO.

I've been to this place both times that my father and I have come down to Clearwater for Phillies spring training. We chose the place because we read online that they will 'cook your catch' and since we also plan a fishing trip while we're down here it works out well. Both times we've eaten here we brought in 2 cleaned (fish must be cleaned in advance) Sea Trout and had the cook your catch special, which is $12 for either blackened or fried fish and comes with 2 sides. The first time we got one blackened and one fried. The blackened fish was absolutely fantastic (and not just because we caught it ourselves!). The fried fish was just a bit too much breading for my taste so this year we got 2 orders of blackened and it was just as amazing as last year. for sides i got the black beans w/ rice and coleslaw. Both of those sides were very good as well and the coleslaw helps to cut the intensity of the seasoning towards the end of the two large filets.

The only reason I docked them a star is because there beer selection was pretty weak. Pretty much just mass produced stuff. I guess it's not a problem if you are into that. The best thing they had to offer was Sierra Nevada. Also we got 2 dozen raw oysters for a starter and there were ok but had definitely been pre-shucked and sitting in a fridge. That said, I'm 100% sure we will be back next year with our fresh catch.

Went here with some good friends of ours who were avid chicken wing fans. This was the place for it. The chicken wings were awesome. The tequila chicken wings were the best. I had steamed mussels which were ok. They were a little over cooked but the sauce was great. It's a fun, laid back atmosphere when you want to hang with friends. We had a great time! I'm giving it a four star only because of the mussels.

Strolled into this place after a day on the beach.   Monday afternoon so it wasn't to busy.   The bartendr was really nice and chatted with me while I sat there.  Plus if you check in you got a free beer.  Score!   I had the fried grouper sandwich.  Good crunch and soft and flaky on the inside.   Key Lime Pie was all right-I've had better. The atmosphere makes it worth it!

We ate here on a Thur afternoon and the place  was all but empty (you know before the dinner crowd and after the lunch crowd). I was so hyped to eat here from all the great yelps I thought I was in for a treat (maybe I was expecting to much). I had the grouper sandwich with fries. The proportions was great the fish was not bad it was crispy but a little flat on flavor the fries were hot and HARD. My hubby got the grouper bites and beer battered shrimp with slaw. I swiped a shrimped and then swiped another it was really good. Forget the slaw and fries if there is another choice then go with that. We enjoyed the atmosphere the touristic local bar decorations , had us feeling like we were on "daycation" the happy hour 99cent draft may have ccontributed to that feeling. I dont know if would go again at this point there are other "seafood shacks" to try in this area. I will up date a post if I do return.  Summery do try it but dont expect it to be an over the top meal.

For what this place is it deserves 5 stars. You won't be alone in expecting this to be the crotch version of Hooters but it is far from anything of the sort.

It has the appearance of a dive bar with tack all over the walls but the food and service are superb. In our party we had Gator Bites, Grouper Sandwiches, an Oyster Po Boy, and some wings. Everything was delicious but I especially enjoyed the wings in tequila sauce (little sweet, little spicy) cooked Daytona style (slightly charred after intially dipped in sauce, grilled, and dipped in sauce again). I took bartender Patrick's suggestion to get it with a side of hot sauce.

As another perk, they added Big Ten network so if you are a Big Ten fan locally or vacationing, this is a great spot to catch a game. Be warned, Patrick's bloody mary is supremely spicy (but great)

We came here for dinner and were seated outdoors. Not very fun but perhaps it is better indoors. And why the plastic plates and bowl?

The two starters we had were really delicious - crab dip and grouper nuggets. Definitely go for the crab dip!

The entrees are as good as any of the similar seafood restaurants in town (Frenchy's, Crabby's etc).

What was not OK was the Sprite tasting like carbonated pool water! We asked for a better tasting one, and he came out  with a new one assuring this one tastes like sprite. The same. So go with Coke if you want a soda that actually is drinkable. (I know this can be the problem in Florida with sodas at restaurants due to the water - but I have never experienced it myself)

We came here in a group of 7 at 7 pm - there was no waiting time!

Had a nice dinner here on Friday night. I had the ahi tuna, yum. My husband had the crab legs and WOW they were really good. He shared a few with me since the portion was huge. I would definitely go back for AYCE crab legs next time we are in town. One problem we had was that the hostess tried to seat us outside because she said they couldn't fit 7 people at a table inside..I mentioned that we may leave and magically they had a table inside and it fit everyone with no problem.

I am truly on the fence on this one...I'be been coming here since I moved to Florida 17 years ago and I always drag my current company here and I mean drag because let's face it this place is a dive. Back in the day this place had great food ( the wings were the best and still are) great servers and a cool atmosphere. I've met the original owner years ago not sure if he still owns it, I've lived with a girl that wound up working there because I recommended it too her back.
Now with that said , the food is always good. I think there Wings are better then Hooters and Winghouse the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich is huge and fresh, The Sirloin Burgers are good, the Shrimp & Scallops with Pasta gives Red Lobster a run for there money and over all I have never had any bad food here. I recommend them over the tourist trap Frenchies anyday. So Cooters treat your locals like locals and have your servers ask there customers where they are from.

To Cooters I wish you the best and want to see you around for a long time.

EDIT: I'm officially taking Cooters off of the Dive list. Even though I think Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives needs to do a show on this joint.
So Me and my Wife came here tonite for diner and when we sat down the Waiter asked us where we were from. Hmm... very nice for opening a repoire and I also over heard him ask everyone else he waited on.
So lets get to it, my wife ordered the Chicken Alfredo Pasta. Hands down she loved it. I noticed the Menu is new and some extra changes. So I ask the Waiter "what are the Daytona Wings", he say's "they are made with Tequila then Grilled". WHAT?! So I like to try new things so I ordered 10. Let me tell you I have a new Love and it's the Daytona Wings at Cooters...

the all you can eat crab is good. For 26 bucks most people eat 4-5 pounds so they probably loose money but I'm sure they make it up somehow
Frenchys has the same offer but for 20 bucks

Don't know why I decided to meet up with friends here on a Saturday night.

Traffic is always absolutely dreadful in Clearwater and the parking is even worse.  I thought since Cooter's has their own parking lot, it wouldn't be that bad...well, it wouldn't have been had they not decided to block off more than half of their parking lot so that they could have a raffle and a dj.

We drove around for over an hour looking for a parking spot and finally a spot in their lot opened up...so we waited for 10 minutes for the car pulling out to get out of the parking lot because the entrance was blocked off by a car who decided it was okay to park there (and no one thought to tow them).  We started pulling in and one of the staff members told us we were not allowed to park there..and made us park across the street in the bank.  I wouldn't have had a problem with this had he not given us an attitude with it.  If my friends weren't alraedy waiting inside the restaurant for us for all that time...I would've never went in. But I can promise you this, I won't be going in ever again.

The food is good...but nothing is THAT good.

Food was excellent.  Had crab legs and mussels with a wonderful Cole slaw (reminiscent of my grandmother's recipe) and FRESH steamed broccoli!  Who could ask for anything better in terms of food.  None of this was deep fried (which I absolutely dislike)...steamed, flavorful and a wonderful presentation.

The service was outstanding!  We had a waitress who was conversationally engaging but not overwhelming.  (my husband and I are quiet people.  We appreciate insightful, helpful, cheerful service). I cannot say enough about the high quality of service we were given...and did I mention the food was Wonderful!?!?!?

The night before we had eaten at an "old" established place (starts with F)....in our opinion their service was lousy and I did not think the food was that great either.

Keep up the wonderful quality of Service and Food.  We will definitely recommend Cooters to anyone we know who is going down to Clearwater Beach!

    Again, thank you..Carol/Pete

Thought it said Hooters!  Now even though I stilled dragged my daughter in here for dinner it explains why it was a lot more respectable and the food was actually really good.

Now I'm kidding about the Hooters thing, those days are long gone and oh my god that is just one place that should have gone under years ago!  This on the other hand is a little out of the way on Clear water Beach. A block or two from the main street so I thought it might be good.  The service was great and the food was really tasty. I passed on the steak but tried the fish being miles from a cow but only a few hundred yards from a boat it only seemed right.  Good call, fresh, well cooked and very flavorful. When in Rome!

Glad we stepped outside the box so to speak, glad it wasn't Hooters and really glad I went with the Fish!

I have been living in Clearwater for 4.5 years now.  When i first moved here I lived on Clearwater Beach for about 6 months.  One of the first restaurants I went to was Cooters.  Seemed nice, new, different.  Prices seemed reasonable.  Menu wasnt huge.

I immediately got addicted to their tequila wings.   I am not a wings person but these were some of the best wings i've had.  Nice hot and addictive.  Yum.  This is the only only reason i am giving them 2 stars.. otherwise id give them 1.

See, they used to be decent.  I used to love the servers, knew the managers and they knew me.

Then things changed.  I didnt come as much.  But when i would return, took longer to check me in/ show me to a table/seat.  They seemed to be annoyed that i was alone.  Not friendly.  Took longer to take order and bring food.  Food was always decent to great depending on the price.. not all things on the menu were as good as they seemed... But i still loved the wings.

Well workers left.. andmanagement changed i guess.. and well this place plain sucks now.

I hate going there.  Dnt do me a favor .. i aint asking much.

Probably the first 4 times I came here (as I'm a local living nearby for winter) I wouldn't have given this place much more than 3 stars as the food is typical bar fare, and the service is pretty average but friendly... that was until I learned 3 magical words that transformed my Cooters dining experience henceforth:

    TEQUILA DAYTONA WINGS

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, after searching near and far for the best wings in the world, at the recommendation of the barkeep I tried these beauties, and my tastebuds were instantly sent heavenward, enjoying the mix of carmelized sugar and juicy chicken meat, achieved from placing these wings of wonder on the grill after your typical wing frying & coating.

Some restaurants just simply claim to have the best wings in town. These are the best I've ever had.

    Good location
    Incredibly fair prices
What you see is what you get

Stopped in here on a spring training trip with a buddy, and we spent a decent part of a late afternoon downing some oysters, fried foods, and cold beers.  I didn't think it was particularly special, but the prices were right, the people were friendly, and I had a good time.  As unpretentious a place as they come - I'll go back next time I'm in town.

Best grouper I had while in Clearwater Beach. I ordered it blackened on a sandwich.  It was cooked JUST right, flaky, tender and juicy.

The place freaked me out though.   I mean, you know something is up when there are only a few tables in the middle of the day.   At 1230 on a Sunday, my friend and I were one of the only tables, while Frenchys next door was packed.   We had already eaten there and wanted to try another place.  Again, the grouper was awesome and the other food was also good.   But it was so quiet and creepy in there and the employees were some of the oddest looking people I've encountered.   It was hard to eat in peace, I kept thinking the longer I stayed in their realm, the uglier I would get.

All good things must come to an end, as they say.  I have been traveling to Florida for years and a few years ago this was the best thing Clearwater Beach had going.  We used to spend a week in Florida and hit Cooters 8 times.  Well, not really but, it felt like that.  The bartenders, friendly as all get out, were our best friends by the end of our first visit and when us "tourists" walked in the next night, not only did they remember our name, but our drink too.  Or should I say visa versa?

The place is situated off the beaten path, not right on the beach so you would almost have to know it is there.  It's got a great layout, plenty of bar to belly up to, plus a nice outdoor deck for some real gung-ho crab and various seafood eating.

But, the service is horrible.  The staff doesn't want to know your name, and they are irritated if you finish your drink and of all things-- want another.  One of the little snots was so affected I don't think even she could stand herself.  I ordered a cup of seafood gumbo after waiting and waiting to have my order taken.  She looked like she was going to kill me that she finally made time out of her busy schedule to take my order and all I wanted was that.  She says, "a CUP?" in sheer disbelief.  Never a smile, never a kind word. And the gumbo? Tasted like it had been simmering for 24 hours and the shrimp were so overcooked I could hardley eat them. Icck. So glad I didn't go for the bowl. On the other hand, hubby had the mahi-mahi sandwich and despite it being drenched in slop, it was a nice cut of fish that was cooked well. Oh well, maybe in another three years they will have a friendlier, kinder staff that may care.

So I'm in town for a conference and wanted to have dinner without going bankrupt, so I chose Cooters.  Yelpers led me here so, I said go for it.

I sat at the bar and was completely entertained by Toni the bartender. She was awesome!!!  I've never had a server ask and remember my name.  I felt like I was a regular there (amongst the other authentic regulars that were there).

I ordered the all you can eat snow crab and ate til my heart's content.  I will go back before I go home! HAH!!

Not good, not fresh, not clean. A poor imitation of a Frenchy's wanna be. Walked into a nearly empty place to find a group of bimbos standing around not doing anything. They looked up at as walk in and then went back to chatting. So we figured we can sit anywhere. The bimbo finishes her conversation before she comes over to wait on us. Hey, no prob, your tip can wait too. So we finally order and get two semi warm beers in dirty glasses. Send them back, get two more semi warm beers. Let's try the food, ok, let's not. Dryfish dip, over fried items, oh come on. No return trip here.

Went in for a quick drink and appitizer ended up having dinner. Female bartender was so friendly and told us how good rest of menu was we had dinner.
    Excellent Bourbon chicken and Grouper.
The night we were there was Alaskan Crab leg "all you can eat," 90% of the people had this. Got to talking to some people next to us
( locals) said the all you can eat specials and Happy Hour specials draw local people from all over.
There was a good mix of tourists and locals, always a good sign for a beach area place.
The private label Cooters hot sauce was awesome, we had it on Wings for the appitizer and I knew I wanted a meal to try the sauce on!
Drinks were cheap-Happy Hour seemed to never end.

    Based only on happy hour...

I can't complain about 50 cent oysters, wings & $2 drinks. Try the Hot Cooter sauce with you oysters! They a full bar & the bartenders were able to make all the drinks we asked for and took the time out to socialize. They also have tv's in the bar area in case you want to catch a ball game.

    Great distance to the beach!

Since we were hanging out at clearwater beach, we decided to eat at this place.

First I thought Cooters is an imitation of Hooters...one letter difference, and turtle instead of owls...I am from NY and I have never seen Cooters before.  Guess I was wrong.  They did not have any girls with big boobs and tight shorts on.

We had to wait like 10 min, which is not bad at all. The waitress we had was very nice and helpful.

The food itself was mediocre.  Nothing different from other restaurants in the area.  A lot of fried and grill seafood.  They definitely had a tourist price and it seemed like they were more about quantity rather than quality.

I think this place is overrated for being in the beach area.

This place was perfect for jumping in and getting a bite and beer or more beers than bite. While I don't eat meat, I do eat fish.  it seems they do a lot of beefy things because I did order some shark filet and they brought me beef instead. I thought when I bit into it, the taste and texture was not fish even though the waiter assured me it was. After closer inspection it was beef. It's the beach so you know the fish is fresh if you can get them to bring you some. the atmosphere is casual and low key for a few beers with friends. It does get really loud and boisterous the later the night gets. The price is right and perfect for the flipflop wearing shorts clad, Jimmy Buffet look alikes to hang. I found Frenchy's to be a better food experience but Cooters will have live music on occasion.

We had to stop in based on the name alone. I was expecting a Hooters where the waitresses wore crotchless panties. (you aren't fooling anyone, sure a cooter as a freshwater turtle, but this place is on the ocean)

I wasn't expecting much, but this ended up being my favorite dining experience during my trip to Clearwater Beach. We came in for a late lunch and ran into their happy hour. $2 House Chablis and Burgundy and $1.25 Miller Light drafts, along with .50 oysters, shrimp, or Buffalo wings.

I had never had oysters before, because they look so disgusting, but for .50 I thought I give them a try. I was happy with my investment, they were cool and fresh, the shrimp was also awesome.

I ordered the blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich. I think it was about $8 and came with coleslaw and either french fries or beans and rice. The fish was huge and well seasoned. I'm thinking that it was the best fish sandwich that I've ever had.

I finished it off was a slice of key lime pie. I'm pretty sure it was store bought, but worth the $3.50, none the less.

I also saw what looked to be the owner or the manager, a pale skinny gray mulleted guy get pretty nasty with the bartender and a waitress. "You woke me up to come in for this, it's not even fucking busy". (it was about 4 p.m.)

I wanted to buy a bottle of Hot Cooter BBQ sauce for $4.99, but didn't want to end up checking my bag because it contains a liquid. Damn you TSA!! And again "Hot Cooter BBQ sauce", wouldn't it make more sense to say Cooter's hot BBQ sauce, they probably wouldn't sell any that way.

If you can get past the name, this is a great burger and beer joint.  The service was spotty but friendly - he spent so much time trying to make us laugh that he often forgot his reason for coming back to our table and would have to leave and come back a third time with whatever we had requested.  But, his personality more than made up for his forgetfulness.

Prices are extremely reasonable and the food was tasty!

This place was really odd. We went here because it was convenient. Had to wait for a while, overall not worth it.  My friend and I met some gay guys at the bar and they automatically assumed we were lesbians. We didn't have the heart to tell them we weren't (I mean, it's pretty bad to be gay and have a faulty gaydar). The food was not very good and it was very touristy. They also had 2 different songs playing over each other the entire time we were there = headache.
    Odd experience.
