I've read the bad reviews but we've never been even close to having a bad experience here.  Been 4 times with the wife after my initial solo dinner experience.  Always have sat at the bar and the bartenders are attentive and friendly.  The food is plenty good and the prices can't be beat.  Dinners come with two sides and a salad - usually for $10-12.  Now I'm not talking about Capital Grille quality but you leave here after a couple beers each and dinner with tip for less than a $40 bill.  Plus some interesting conversation if you're so inclined.  Sooner or later I'm sure the one star day will come but as of now they are 5 for 5.

Stopped in with Junior a couple of Saturdays ago for lunch. The food was good; not great, but more than decent. I had the Buffalo Chicken sandwich ($7.99). It could have used Frank's Hot Sauce instead of the cayenne flecked BBQ-like sauce it came with. And having to ask for blue cheese (which didn't come on the sandwich) and then being charged $0.50 for a small cup is lame. When I asked for hot sauce (expecting Frank's), I got a crusty bottle of Tabasco. Listen up Boston: Buffalo means Frank's Hot Sauce and blue cheese. Always and forever. Junior had a Reuben ($7.99). It was packed with meat, slaw and Russian dressing. Now, you won't confuse the Corrib's corned beef with NY deli, but it was tasty.

Service from Krystale was excellent. She was friendly and attentive. The surprising disappointment was sitting next to two foul-mouthed, 40-something thuggish types who looked like they'd been out all night breaking knee caps. This was unexpected since the Corrib has a reputation for being family-friendly and is very involved in youth sports. I'd expect characters like this in a crusty Haymarket or Townie dive - places I wouldn't take my kid - but not on Centre Street in West Roxbury.

IF you'd like to hear old timey political stories about Boston politics while eating great homemade comfort food find a seat at the corrib and just listen. Nothing is more entertaining coupled with great food. A story from a Boston Irish patriarch beats tv any day of the week

The Corrib has been a mainstay on centre street for years.  I recently went there with a relative for lunch and everything was good as usual.  We both had the chowder which was creamy although it could have been served hotter.  I had a French Dip Sandwich that was pretty tasty.  Service was good Food was good. what else is there?

Great service, good food. I had the chicken giuseppe and subbed rice for veggies. We had a party of 6 and it was crowded but we got seated and fed pretty promptly. The clam chowder here is good, very creamy & rich. Mostly a locals spot, friendly people.

Let me start this by saying that I've been a fan for as long as I could drink legally. The food was always good. Beers were always fresh. It wasn't over the top but it was good.
Now I have to ask, WTF??
Had dinner here tonight. Got a Reuben sandwich, Corrib fries and a Boston lager and a grilled "smitty" special with regular fries.
Two words, piss poor. Soggy bread plated like it was thrown from the other side of the kitchen. The Corrib fries were wet. Wet! The chicken was a patty I'm sure. No way that texture was fresh chicken. The fries were wet and old tasting. The Boston lager had as much carbonation as a glass of water.
Look, I don't know what is going on but seriously, Marty and the crew need to go back to what made them a neighborhood favorite, honest fresh food and cold fresh beer.
I just don't get the change here. This place needs fixing in the kitchen.

My company allowed me to put together a st pattys luncheon. Ive lived in Roslindale my whole life and grew up going to lots of Irish restaurants... I called around and I decided on the corrib to cater the traditional corned beef and cabbage meal. Not only was the owner helpful and friendly, but the food was great! The owner even showed up with some Orange green and white balloons! He really went the extra mile and we will keep them in mind for future events for sure! During the luncheon everyone raved and couldn't get enough of the food! Thank you to the owner Tony!!
In addition to my experience with their catering I've been to the pub and the staff was always great. The food was always like a good home cooked meal. Good place for a few beers too. Growing up it was always one of the "late night" bars aka they are open till 2. You just have to get there before the door locks which I think was like 1:15 or 1:30.

I typically avoid Irish and American restaurants due to the face that I'm vegan and they don't offer much for me.  That's why I mostly eat at ethnic restaurants like Indian and Thai. However after our orchestra concert on Sunday in West Roxbury about 8 of us went here for food and drinks.  Fortunately we got there right before the crowd so we were able to get our table in less than 10 mins.  Had we come 30 mins later I'm sure we would have waited a while.  Apparently they asked a woman to move tables for us that was sitting alone.  I don't think she was pleased but she did anyway.

As expected there was hardly anything vegan yet alone vegetarian.  The place has a lot of red meat, chicken, and seafood dishes as well as things like quesadillas, nachos, and other expected bar food.  I ordered the portobello burger. I thought it was going to be a portobello but it was a veggie burger.  I expect it was the frozen  Morning Star or Boca one which I don't think is vegan?  I ate it anyway since it came out.   It came with a bun, some pickles, lettuce, two fried onions, and tomato.  I said to hold the cheese and mayo.  It also came with fries but I was able to sub out the fries for a side of spinach.  Best part:  they don't charge extra to sub out for veggies or a salad.  AWESOME!   The spinach was delicious - very flavorful though now I wonder what it was flavored with.

The salads that my friends got before their meals looked good too.  My friends got buffalo wings, nachos, steak tips, grilled chicken salad, quesadilla, etc.  I think everyone enjoyed their meal.

To drink I got a sangria (not house made - they use a mix and the fruit is cherries and oranges).  Oh how I wish I could get a real sangria in this town! I also got a white zinfindel wine for my 2nd drink.  Others got beer, gin and tonics, etc.

The dinner comes with bread rolls and butter and I have to say they were probably won of the worst rolls I have ever had.  It was so bad I didn't even eat the 2nd half. And this is saying a lot - because I love dinner rolls.

The best part of the meal besides the company was our waitress. She was super sweet, helpful, and efficient.  I really enjoyed her service.  She was also able to do separate checks for all of us which was really nice.  I also ordered food to go for my boyfriend and she was good about putting in the order later so it was still warm when I brought it home.

My friends got dessert - tiramasu (which was so so), chocolate pie, etc.  Obviously I didn't because there was nothing I could eat.  They don't carry sorbet.  They do have a lot of home made cakes and pies.

This place has some fresh off the boat Irish dudes in the back by the bar.  Hang out there and you'll get to hear some cute accents!

The place was packed by the time we left - people were waiting for tables, etc.  If you plan on eating there with a large group get there early or avoid weekend nights.

As a vegan your only choices really are the side dishes and salad. They don't even offer a vegan pasta dish or hummus!  I guess I could have asked our waitress to talk to the chefs to see what they could do for me, but this doesn't seem to be one of those culinary creative places that could whip me up something.  Anyway if you aren't vegan than this place is probably perfect for you.

I had been to the Corrib in Brighton, so we decided to try the Corrib in West Roxbury for a nice family dinner. My mother got the Fisherman's Platter which she said was awsome. My brother had the Braised Short Ribs which he enjoyed very much. I had the Mixed Grill (ribs and turkey tips) Which was also good. I must admit though, I was envious of my mother's Fisherman's Platter as it looked as good as she said it was.
The service was very good. our server was very accomodating and also fast with the drink refills.
The bar area was full of people watching football on the many TVs. They were a loud crowd but the noise was not intrusive in the dinning area.
There was one drawback, and it was a big one... Smokers had to step outside to smoke and the huddled right by the door. Much of their smoke blew right back into the restaurant and was a bit intrusive into our dinning. It was a clear warm night and there was no need to huddle in the doorway. The Corrib desparately needs to either update their ventalation system or move their smokers a few feet away from their doorway!
All in all, though, it was a nice place for a casual dinner.

The Corrib is a local institution, and since most of us locals should be institutionalized it fits well into the neighborhood. If you haven't grown up with the Corrib it's not easy to understand the appeal; but it's by no means a bad place to have dinner or a few (dozen) drinks.

The food is good, not great, but not terrible either. You're not going to find an ample beer selection (pretty you'll only see people drinking Bud Light or Guinness), but the Corrib isn't really the place you go to find a new craft beer.

There are plenty of TVs along the bar for watching the game(s); the bar stuff is attentive; and the wait-staff is generally pleasant.

If you're a local you probably already know what to expect from the Corrib; and if a local brings you here it's because it's probably a second home for their family. So keep an open mind.

I don't know where to begin...

I've had the misfortune of dining here multiple times due to my aging grandparents' need for close fish and chips.

This time, even my 92 year old grandfather was grossed out.

Dinner rolls - hot dog buns (room temp) without the slit.

Salad that comes w dinner -ALWAYS just iceberg with 1 wilted wrinkly cherry tomato. If you offer this to accompany entrees and this is all you can give, don't do it! Id rather pay ANY price for some greens and more than a gross old tomato and 1 purple onion ring.... tonight the balsamic vinegar (HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG WITH BALSAMIC?!?) tasted like plastic. It's never been this bad.

Steak tips so loaded with salt I am going to get screened for heart disease.

My grandmother (who will eat absolutely any creamy soup in the world) told us her clam chowder was "blah" - also room temp.

Baked potatoes are clearly microwaved or baked in advance and then nuked. GROSS.

Fish and chips are OK but my mom continues to ask for crunchy chips and gets soggy and soft lukewarm planks.

The ambiance is depressing. The music is even worse.

I'm sorry Corrib, I've had to try you so many times and not once have I enjoyed my meal!!

The food there is surprisingly good, prices are good, and the drinks are priced right.  Always check the specials as they run some that are amazingly good.  It can be busy on a Saturday night so see if you can make a reservation.

I love the corrib. Service is always good and the food has never been bad. They have a really large menu so whoever you go with can usually find something. It is family friendly and good to go out with the girls to catch up and get a beer. Totally townie in a really great way. It's a good pub grub kind of place. I go there at least once a month. Relaxing and cozy.

The Corrib Pub in West Roxbury is a total gulity pleasure of mine. I know that the food is just ok and yes, it can have some real characters at the bar, but I love the place. To me, it represents the Boston of old, kind of like Doyle's in JP or the Red Hat on Beacon Hill--totally unpretentious, very cozy and comfortable, and the type of place where the bartender will get to know your name if you come here often enough. It's not for everyone, but it's one of my favorite bars in Boston.

Corrib's is a great place for a casual family dinner... it has a great local vibe with solid food - nothing truly outstanding, but good basic homey food.  On a night when you get home and you just don't have the energy to cook or there's nothing in the fridge, it's nice to walk up the block to corrib's for dinner and be welcomed like family or neighbors.

First off, the Corrib is a local place. That said, it very much welcomes everyone. But it is a local place, with a definite West Roxbury flavor to it.

WR has changed a lot in the past few years but its Irish atmosphere still hangs over many things - including its restaurants. The 'Rib has an Irish theme and it's possible to hear a brogue at almost any time.
The bar gets quite crowded at night and during the summer you're lible to run into a softball team or two that has just finished a game at nearby Billings Field. That's West Roxbury. If you don't like it...sorry.

The Corrib's not fine dining - and doesn't pretend to be. It does offer satisfying food at reasonable prices and a decent selection of drinks. Burgers are slightly oversized, while the steak tips are hands down the best value in the place. My recommendation: Get the haddock. It's the best thing they make and it's quite reasonably priced.

It's more like your mother's kitchen than a fancy restaurant in a hotel. And that's not such a bad thing.

Four stars based on the stuffed mushrooms... Great specials, low prices and local. If you have to please a picky, unadventurous eater, Corrib will work. Salads and vegetables are ordinary but service is competent and you can watch the game while you eat.

If you enjoy food, avoid The Corrib. I find the food here seriously vile.  At one time this was one of the few choices open to you if you lived in West Roxbury and didn't feel like driving very far to grab a bite to eat, but now with so many new restaurants opening up on Centre Street I really can't imagine why anyone would eat here.  Last time I ate here was with my Dad who for some reason didn't feel like going someplace better. I ordered the steak and stuffed shrimp and ended up sending it back and ordering a burger instead.

If you really need to come here, stick with difficult to screw up items like burgers and fish & chips. Honestly, I wouldn't even order a side salad here. It's basically a small plate with iceberg lettuce, a slice of tomatoe, some onions and horrible dressing. Blech.

And if you are wondering why the place is always crowded, let me assure you, the bar is the draw.

The amazing thing about the Corrib is that there's always a crowd in there, even at odd hours like 3pm on a Monday - and that should tell you all you need to know.

My fiancee and I frequent the Corrib.  It's the old standby we go to when we are looking for a quick meal when we don't feel like cooking.

As an "old reliable," it works pretty well.  It's very reasonably priced, particularly for lunch, and the food is of medium quality.  For example the "Gobbler" sandwich, a typical pub-fare "Thanksgiving dinner" sandwich, usually comes with very dry turkey.  But the steak tip sandwich, by comparison, is a great value and cooked to order.

Speaking of values the best one is the $4 bowl of chili, which is often inconsistent but reliably good, and satiating enough to have as a meal.

Service is OK from a corps of wait staff you can tell have been working there for years.

The West Roxbury location seems perpetually under construction, and parking can be a pain.  Call ahead to ask about wait times if you are going during a peak period, but it shouldn't be more than 15 minutes or so.

I give this place four stars because it keeps us coming back for decent food at a good price.

P.S.:  Tip:  They serve seasoned waffle fries instead of their standard ones, but only on request.

corrib's is great for cheap food and drinks.  its a great, friendly atmosphere.  I've never had to wait, but there is always a good crowd.
the nachos are good...they use the cheese sauce but its still very tasty!  also, they have really good chicken sandwhiches with different types of BBQ sauce on top...very good as well.
its a great place to go if you are looking for something quick, cheap and casual.  parking can be a little tricky since its on a main road and they dont have a lot, but you can always find street parking!

Let me first say that I'm *not* the Irish pub type. I don't really drink much beer, I tend to shy away from groups of drunk people unless there's another draw (dancing, karaoke, Major League Baseball), and typically the food is inexpensive for a reason.

So when I went to the Corrib, on a Friday night, on a date, I guess I had low expectations. And some of them were met, while others were shot down in a haze of chicken-induced deliciosity.

The first thing I noticed upon walking in is that the bar is separated from the restaurant portion by a high glass divider. This provides the restaurant patrons with enough privacy to feel as though they are not at a bar, and the bar-goers sufficient separation to get drunk without being judged. It's a win-win situation. And since the restaurant is actually very nice inside, it's one that is necessary.

My first experience with the waitress was that she was surly and not particularly interested in my order. Fortunately, I had earlier listened to a song by RZA (of Wu-Tang Clan fame) in which he mentioned that one should "defeat your enemies with kindness," so I continued to be nice to the waitress and she warmed up. Still, it didn't give me a great first impression.

My date chose the Smothered Steak Tips Sandwich, while I ordered the Gorgonzola-Smothered Chicken Sandwich and side garden salad. Apparently, the Corrib is big on smothering things. The salad was... fine. It was a salad. The honey mustard dressing was killer, but that's just how some places make it.

When the sandwiches arrived, I pre-judged mine based on its size and was initially disappointed - it wasn't the huge, honkin' sandwich that I expect for $7.50. But I guess they have to pay for the decor somehow. My first bite, however, was decadent. The chicken was so well-marinated that it could have been perfectly-flavored on its own (if I ever go back, I'm getting it without the cheese), but the cheese added a melty texture and salty flavor that complemented it nicely. I chose to change my french fries to "Corrib Fries," which are spiced lattice fries, and those were delicious as well. My date also enjoyed her steak tips sandwich, although to be fair she lives within walking distance of the venue and said she orders the same thing every time.

My final thoughts on the Corrib are that it's a nice, local pub and restaurant - probably a destination for a few, but mostly a hangout for the locals. The separation between bar and restaurant was useful (except when the Red Sox scored a run or got a strikeout, in which case... what separation?), the food was tasty and moderately-priced, and the server was probably just having a bad day.

Did I enjoy my meal? Yes.
Would I recommend it to others who live nearby? Sure.
Would I go back if I wasn't in the neighborhood? Probably not.

The Corrib is that bar that all eager college students flock to after their favorite bar has last call- this place is open until 2am and is a haven for those who love the night life and are stuck in the suburbs.  The inside is gorgeous and doesn't really come off as a bar- it's more like a nice restaurant that probably holds baby showers during the day only to harbor drunk college students in the wee hours of the morning.  However, if you appear to be too intoxicated, the bar tender will not serve you- atleast they're responsible.
