I love this place. Â Once I saw there enormous pizza puffs years ago, I knew this would be my kind of place. Â I only eat it in a dine-in experience, though. Â If you're taking out, might as well go to Villa Rosa, but for dining in, I like this place. Â The family fun atmosphere is fun, if you're into that sort of thing (think waitresses barking at each other, no frills, memorizing your order instead of writing it down, etc.). Â It's somehow cash only, which is pretty annoying, but it's inexpensive enough that it won't bug you too much. Â It's a neighborhood joint, so find yourself in the neighborhood so you can try it out.
Review Source:I'm 25 years old and I've been going here since I can remember. It's BEST STUFFED PIZZA EVER. Totally beats out Gino's, Giordano's, and Nancy's. They don't even compare to this pizza. The staff knows my whole family. It's a great atmosphere. Every party we have and have had we got Danny's Stuffed Pizza. I seriously recommend it and promise you will enjoy every bite.
Review Source:I was looking forward to trying Danny's pizza, as my husband really liked their pizza puffs. Unfortunately, I've had better pizza in school cafeterias. The crust was tough and tasteless, as was the cheese. (Tough cheese. Strange but true.) The rest of the ingredients (sausage, mushrooms, etc.) were equally inferior. Two hungry people left more than half a pizza untouched, which in a pizza-loving household is a sad state of affairs. And on a side (but possibly related) note, why is the kitchen--visible through a hole in the wall--I mean--the "take out window"--so dark and cheerless? Why do the workers look like extras from Mad Max, desperate for a savior or at least a glimpse of the sun? Why is Danny's pizza still making its presence known in my digestive system 15 hours later? I suspect these are questions best left unanswered.
Review Source:Eating a Danny's pizza is one of the best experiences you can have on the southwest side of Chicago. The cheese is super thick, the sauce is tangy, and the thin crust has a consistency approaching a warm biscuit. Danny's has prompt delivery service and a friendly, definitely no-nonsense staff. Danny's goes well with Old Style and Bears games.
Review Source:This is must stop at place when going to Midway airport. Classic thin crust pizza with your favorite toppings. Great appetizers. Soups and salad looked good. Family owned & you can tell. They have a great pick-up window before you actually go in. Cash only! & bring your quarters for the juke box.
Review Source:This place hits close to home for me. Literally. It's only blocks away from where I grew up.
My family didn't always order pizza from Danny's, but we started once my parents' favorite spot closed shop for good. But it does feel like we have been going here forever.
Take-out is done at warped-speed, even on busy nights. I don't think we've ever waited longer than 45 minutes for anything. It's also one of those pizza places that allows you to collect coupons with your order, so that your 20th pizza is free. It's quite sad to me when I bring in 20 greasy, ripped coupons but hey, it's a free [couple of] meals.
The pasta is amazing. Seriously best sauce ever. I've tried both the meat sauce and the meatless marinara and I could drink an 8 oz. cup of either without hesitation.
Dining in is an experience. The tablecloths are red and white checkered and everything just looks old and kitschy. However, it is charming, the prices are cheap and the food is good. Call it a dive, but this is definitely a South-side favorite.
It all started with the phone call, and whoever picked up was pretty rude. Anyways, I show up and it's cash only. Now this is a big pizza place, especially compared the rest of the places on Archer, and they all take credit cards. I was 49 cents short, but the man kindly let it slide. Â ( I don't know if he was the one who answered the phone, but this man was nice and earned an extra star.) I was already pretty annoyed with the whole cash only thing, and I searched through my car for about five minutes for some quarters, but I decided I'd give the pizza and appetizer a chance.
When I got home, I picked up the bag for the appetizer, and there was marinara sauce all over the ground of my car. The lid was cracked and the sauce got everywhere.
To top things off, the pizza was mediocre. I won't be returning, except to pay my 49 cents back.
Danny's is my second favorite pizza place on the south side to order from. However, best dine in experience. It's a cute, cozy place where middle-aged couples get out of the house for a Friday night, and a place that would be nice to take a nice date as a teenager.
Good solid pizza. And a plethera of dishes. Prices are reasonable.
Keep in mind I ordered from here consistently 2 years ago so this is based on my personal experience and hopefully they have gotten it right since then. The pizza here is good everything about it the cheese, crust, toppings, and grease. Good Chicken Parmesan Sandwich. Â However it gets a -1 because we were ordering them regularly and the call taker etiquette from 2 of their regulars was bad. They were rude and would rush me off the phone I understand they are busy but c'mon common courtesy people. However long story short the food wasn't good enough for them to keep treating me like crap and handing them my money. That's when I started ordering triano's a few blocks west, better pizza and the workers were always really nice.Being in customer service for years bad service is a pet peeve of mine based on that alone I won't be back as there are better joints in the area that treat me with more respect.
Review Source:I'm trying to figure out why I only gave 3 stars in my first review of this place. Especially after venturing out of the neighborhood and trying a couple of other spots further into the southside that are known for their pizza. Crap! My latest venture brought me to Rosangela's and Fox's in Mt. Greenwood and Beverly respectively. My friend who is currently going to culinary school recommended these institutions to me, and unfortunately they sucked. There is not really one good thing that I have to say about these places. This is what makes me think that there is noone on the southside that knows good food because both of these places were packed. Sometimes that gives you insight into the food. Long story short, I was happy to be back with my hot, greasy, delicious Danny's pizza.
