As a southerner, I am often deeply by what gets praised as "southern cuisine" in Boston. Oftentimes, it's modified too much for supposed New England tastes or is made too pretentious. However, when I tried the Darryl's Sunday brunch buffet, I was more than impressed. From grits to fried chicken to collard greens, Darryl's was on point. The food tasted authentic and was presented well without being foodie pretentious. The live music added a nice jazzy ambience, even though it was a bit loud.
I found Darryl's to be a little pricier than what I was expecting, but when you're the real deal, you can charge a premium. Given the nature of the food, it's not something I can eat everyday, but it's definitely great for a special occasion or for teaching a local "Real Southern Food 101".
Amazing food! Upscale, South-End southern cooking is the best way I could describe it. I have nothing bad to say about the food or service. It is kinda loud when they have live music but if you like the music, the place is absolutely perfect. Also, considering the quality, it's very reasonably priced as well. Definitely recommended!
Review Source:I'm new to Boston and being  this was my first outing... I was not disappointed! I only ordered crab cakes but they were delicious! The staff is extremely friendly and the live band was excellent. I also really liked the fact that there was a little diversity in there as well! In short...go, you'll have a great time. Oh...I only gave 4 stars because like other reviewers noted, it was a little loud for the size of the space.
