It's easy to miss this place among the bigger & nicer dim sum places especially since it's kind of near the end of Chinatown on Wentworth.  But if you want an inexpensive dim sum fix, this is definitely the joint to go to.  $2 dim sum for small, medium, and large plates?  Yes, please.

Their dim sum was good, had the usual siu mai (pork dumpling), ha gow (shrimp dumpling), chang fun (noodle crepe) and veggies.  It wasn't anything spectacular but it did hit the spot.  Not sure how long the $2 "promotion" will last (it seems to just be a part of their regular menu right now).

There's not much to be said about the decor, it's more of a dive-y place.  It's also not that big as it only has a few of the large round tables and probably less than 10 smaller tables around the edge.  The service was good, it was kind of chilly and they had the fans going for circulation but they kindly turned off the one over our table upon request.

Decided to order a meal deal here. My mom called in and told them we wanted to pick up at 7:00 pm. My brother gets there and had to still wait about 25 minutes. I think they forgot to make it til he got there.

Chinese Broccoli - They used a garlic sauce which was ok, but the broccoli was old.
Black Pepper Beef - This was ok.
Salt and Pepper Smelt - Wow, these had so many bones in there. Eat with caution. I've never had fried smelt and almost choke on the bones.

Overall, the price is good, but quality isn't. So, you get what you pay for. I'll suggest go elsewhere.

Dim sum is $2.00 a dish, any dish, every day. Seems reasonable right? uhm for the price yes. For the service quality and food taste, uhm hellz no.

I had two people in my group - they would not seat us even though there was 3 large tables unused at the time we walked into the restaurant. They said it was reserved for larger groups. Okay, then we said we will wait. The waiter starts talking to me in broken English, and we respond back to him in Cantonese. He was somewhat shocked that we spoke. I mean, don't I look Asian enough? Come on. Maybe I don't like a FOB, but still, I am Asian.

We get seated 20 minutes later......and it took another 10 minutes for the waiter to return to our table. After we placed our order for dim sum, the group next to us (which had placed an order as well, about 5 minutes later), received all their dim sum dishes FIRST. Uhm, that is strange. Because we only ordered the simple dumpling dishes, and etc. which did not require a lot of preparation.

They blatantly ignored us, and didn't even tell us some of the items we selected were not available for the day. After we ate, we went to the owner to pay the bill. He treated us like criminals - by ignoring us and not saying anything. Funny how the moment I started speaking in Toisanese (a local dialect), he immediately seemed shocked and smiled a bit.

Next time, don't judge a book by its cover. Just because I may not look like Chinese or speak the language does not mean I should be treated with disrespect. Remember, I speak 7 languages fluently. So don't pull that b.s. on me.

I've been here a handful of times, and the quality of the food is very hit-or-miss.  Came here for Mother's Day, and we celebrated the same way we celebrate all holidays: by eating until we hate ourselves.  We ordered the salt and pepper fried shrimp, salt and pepper fried pork chops, fish and tofu casserole, black pepper beef, fried fish fillets, and a crab dish.  The salt and pepper fried shrimp and pork chops were fine, but the casserole, beef, and dish were under-seasoned and came out cold.  The fried fish fillets were shockingly tasty in comparison to the rest of the food.  I wonder if they got take-out from the place next door.

On a completely unrelated note, Asian parents have this thing about getting the check. Basically, they will refuse to let the other party (or the guest) pay for the meal.  It's a cultural anomaly that is hilarious to watch, but terrifying to be involved in.  I have seen grown-ass men and women stop just short of literal fist-fighting in order to have the privilege of footing the bill.

I managed to pay for lunch, but only by handing the waiter my card before the meal even started.  This is the tactical equivalent of flinging the Monopoly board and all its pieces across the room before your Dad can get all the fucking Railroads.  I highly recommend it.

Had lunch here. Beef was tough. Tofu lacked flavor. Salt & pepper pork was somehow sweet. The fish filet was really good though, and everyone seemed to enjoy the fried shrimp and fresh crab. Food came out really slowly... but service was pretty attentive.

I came here with my family in mid-March to try out the dim sum priced at $2 per dish. Their menu had the usual offers but were a bit lacking on the dessert end. But I couldn't complain much with that low price.

Here's what we had: shrimp dumpling, pork dumpling, steamed beef balls, steam barbecue roast pork bun, chicken sticky rice with lotus leaf, braised beef varieties, pan-fried turnip cake, pan-fried taro cake, pan-fried pork with chives dumpling, pan-fried bean curd crepe, shrimp spring rolls, steamed vegetable crepe, and steamed shrimp crepe. That is a total of 14 dishes shared among four people. It was quite a bit but definitely not overwhelming.

They charged $2 per dish but the portions were slightly downsized. It was forgivable at times but a bit disappointing for certain dishes. To name a few...the turnip cakes were a bit lacking. The preserved sausages were very well-minced and the turnips were probably crushed into powder to form these cakes. The chicken sticky rice with lotus leaf were minuscule and resembled the frozen products from grocery stores. Despite the small portion, the ingredients were not downplayed at all.

On the other hand, their shrimp dumpling, pork dumpling, braised beef varieties and pan-fried pork with chives dumpling were very enjoyable. Service was also prompt and friendly. The owner even came by to see how we were enjoying our dim sum.

Damn, everything on the dim sum menu is $2 from 8am to 4pm! NOT BAD.  So even the small, med, large, and special items, all $2 each!  The dim sum wasn't bad either, it was pretty good.  Food came out fast.  I mean, the dim sum didn't taste extraordinary, it was Good though and Cheap.  I would definitely come back.

Went to Dragon Court yesterday (4/13/12) and was greeted with relaxing music (classical), warm tea, water and a new Combination Meal menu that was both in English and Chinese which gave an abundance selection from three sections to choose from (A+B+C).  You choose one item from each section and sections A&B had at least 7 to 9 items to choose from - such as peppered beef, steamed chicken, salt and pepper shrimp, pork chops, steamed fish,  chicken fried rice, mixed sea food fried rice, etc. and section C at least 4 to 5 vegetables from chinese broccoli to bok choy (just to name a few).  All for less than $20.00.

I chose the steamed Tilapia with ginger and green scallions from section A, (delicious, delicate and fresh), salt and pepper shrimp from section B and from section C - since they had just run out of the fresh bok choy (very late lunch), the waitress immediately apologized and said try the yung choy it is very fresh   - the waitress was right on.  It was fresh with a little garlic and delicious too.  She spoke perfect English and was very attentive and warm.  I took my time eating, no rush and savored every bit of my meal along with the music.  The manager made sure I had Chrysanthemum tea and even brought over some fresh roasted peanuts for me to try.  Delicious too, I was just so full from my meal because it was not only delicious - it was plentiful.  Did I mention I paid less than $20.00 and had plenty of food to take home to share?

So, if you walk in and see the specials on the wall in chinese, don't get discouraged the Manager is proud to present you with the Combination Menu ( I am sure you will recieve it when you sit down along with the other menus.

This is a family that is trying very hard to please all of their customers with their food and their service.

Give it a try...price is right, food is fresh, delicious, plentiful and they welcome your suggestions.

Ordered food and dim sum from Dragon Court several times and they are generally made pretty well so decided to have dinner there finally and i wasn't disappointed
we had steamed eel (live), stir fried snails, choi sum with garlic and the honey pepper flavored ox tail
the steamed eel was fantastic, we also love the stir fried snails as well (the oxtail was not tender enough but taste wise its good)

Service was very attentive, the waitress brought us water without us asking (usually in chinatown they only give you tea unless you ask), refill promptly, checked on us numerous times

I am a sucker for fresh seafood so definitely will come back to try their other seafood dishes

Came here around dinner time at 5ish. Ordered the dinner for two: lobster with ginger and scallions, yu shan scallops, and pork with spicy salt and pepper. Bill totaled to $41 (plus tax, without tax, the meal costs $36.88) There are a lot of "typical" appetizers and there's nothing special about what's on there. Seriously, nothing special. Those are typical dishes charged at least $2 more than regular places. What's special is if you can order the items on the wall in Chinese writing. I am dead serious. (Take a Chinese person who can read Chinese with you.) I went in with a groupon ($12 for $20) with my handy phone. I used to come here for dim sum with my mom, had dinner here for my sister's graduation, and had dinner here for a party... but these were before they sold it to the current owner of 2012.)

Food: 2. Warning I got from people i know said they switched boss recently and food sucks. I went with the yelp that read 3.5 stars. I am quite disgusted by the food. The pork tasted of butter. It had no garlic, and minimal jalapeno peppers. :( I guess this doesn't end here. The lobster and scallops were cooked well, lacked something flavor though. If you like the pure seafood taste, then go for it. It totally lacks the ginger and scallions in the lobster and the yushan in the scallops.

Decor: 4 typical as the Dragon court that used to be in Chinatown Square. They had green chairs that are padded perfectly, white parchment paper on the table (feel free to leave bones on the table... that's what they're for), white walls, green lining that runs to the floor. There are some signs on the wall for some other dishes (not really friendly to those who don't read/ understand Chinese). There's an aquarium outside the window, along with some traditional gold statues and stuff by the host counter/ register. I think it looks better upstairs.

Price: 3 It might be reasonable since there are two seafood dishes. Yet, for the taste, I don't really find it worth. I've tasted better at other locations in Chinatown for the same dishes and it was cheaper than what's charged here.

Atmosphere: 3 With the families dining around and their conversation, it's pretty average. The tv that's present in there isn't louder than guests. The room is well-lit. I feel it's missing some music. It can get awkwardly quiet and I found myself looking around when I'm not talking, and of course, I ended up eavesdropping other conversations because it gets that quiet.

Service: 2 I guess they might deserve more points, but they get a two because I find there is the lack of attention and cooperation of the waiter/ress. After receiving the menu for two minutes and five minutes, two different waitresses stopped by to take orders when we had our menus to our faces. There are cues and obviously it takes at least 2 minutes to know what is wanted, right?(  If you know what you want on your first time ordering at that place, kudos to you.) They checked up on us once. The waiter who heard us speak English to them when we walked in got cued and asked us "how is everything" in English, other waitresses remembered my date speaking in Mandarin so we got a second waitress who took our orders in Mandarin. [This is what the Chinese places deal with when I visit... I'm trilingual .] They did their best to explain what the meal contains when we're ordering. I didn't really like the serving of dessert that ran down the side of the bowl, plus, some got on the table when it was served.. this is fine. Up until the waitress took my phone to "scan" with their itouch and returned my phone... they placed it dead on the spot of dessert (taro with tapioca "soup"/ tong sui). :( Apparently being observant is not an entity here, of course, unless you know them.

I kind of docked points when the waiter was chatting loudly in the middle of the room (I was seated in the corner again... second time these two days). They were having a fun time chatting about the price of the boxes of vegetables that gets shipped to their place. I understand waiters can be friendly, but when it's loud enough for the whole room to stop eating and stare, this is a problem. Again, maybe having music might help?

This place is not good for the atmosphere. If you like trying new places before you settle, I honestly think there are other places worth trying first. With the menu presented and your intentions, this place is not for specialties (maybe... if you can order from the wall of Chinese stuff. (I'm still wondering what a  is... doggie goose?)

$2 Dimsum! How can you beat that price?

Only downside is that they are understaffed leading to long wait times between meals.

It was Sunday morning and usually we're not doing the dim sum in Chinatown unless it's really early. But just coming from the Shedd Aquarium, it made no sense to head all the way north back home for lunch. So we took a chance on Yelp's review sorting since it topped all the other places we've been.

We were a little nervous about parking given it was already past 11 a.m., but we found parking on our first turn onto residential 24th Pl. before it gets permit-required.

Getting in, I'd describe Dragon Court as the neighborhood dim sum place. Seems like locals or the place where folks go if they're no-frills and not looking for fancy dim sum.

Downstairs was pretty full, but there was a large open round where they seated us as long as we didn't mind the possibility of sharing the table later. So with minimum wait, we were in.

We were offered a selection of Chinese tea, we went with Chrysanthemum and the pot came with rock sugar in a dish.

Picture dim sum menu is available if you ask, but menu has descriptions that work for English dim sum regulars. We passed the menu back and forth between the two of us and soon enough we had 7? or so items checked off. I swear, five minutes later, the plates started showing up in close succession.

    Items of note?
    - a sweet "pumpkin" (as listed on menu) mochi treat with we believe a lotus paste filling
    - rice crepe rolls with spare ribs on top (large serving, and soft rolls - but not falling apart).
    - turnip cake - not too crispy or oily on the outside, but very smooth inside (I guess some folks may prefer chunky)
    - great chive cake (crispy outside, chive heavy inside)
    - rice crepe roll with a stuffed tofu skin roll inside - listed as "crispy skin" but we could see with a steamed rice crepe and sauce on top, the crispy didn't last long. But still yummy. This is the second place we've had this in Chicago - I wonder if this is an invented-here variation?
    - pork and vegetable steamed bun - bun was delicate but filing was mostly pork (maybe some cabbage?) - tasty still.

I knew that there was some sort of discount on dim sum based on reviews I had skimmed (I thought it was 20% off but wasn't sure about Sunday). Turns out, as other reviewers have noted, $2 anything on the dim sum menu. So the bill was $16 (incl. tax). It's hard on the staff just the same (probably worse, since folks order more) - so do adjust your tip accordingly.

It was just the two of us and our 2-year old daughter, so it was quite a lot with us bringing back only one turnip cake and steamed bun. Service was fine in clearing our table, but we had a whole table for 10 to ourselves (including the lazy susan). Quick exit too - servers seem to be collectively helping with all tables, getting our check and to-go box.

So don't expect really unusual items, but core favorites are there and they'll be delivered quickly to your table at a great price.

I would give it a zero star if there's the option.
Service is extremely bad. I bought a groupon now for this restaurant and called for delivery. After the guy heard that I'm using a groupon, he said that their manager is not there so they cannot take any coupon then hang up my phone. I called a few more times until they finally picked up again. He said he cannot take any coupon and ask me to call back in half an hour,MAYBE their manager can come back.
Really irresponsible people and bad service. I love Chinese food and Chinese restaurants but the service there are always disappointing.

Eh, it's ok. It was really late on Sunday and my husband and I were looking for a good place to go to that was still open. We found Dragon Court. I really wanted some chow fun noodles with beef and veggies. The lady who worked there came out to our car to tell us they didn't have anymore chow fun noodles left so I had to settle for the thin yellow noodles. The flavor of the beef was really good. It was tender and flavored nicely. The vegetables were pretty good, but I didn't like that the stems were still there and SO huge. My husband didn't mind eating them, but I didn't like it. The noodles were good, but I didn't eat any of the noodles that weren't under the meat because they were kind of hard and burnt. Overall, it was ok. To me, there are better places in Chinatown.

Leave it to my parents to find the best deal for everything.

So a group of us were stuck between choosing Phoenix, Happy Chef, and on my parents' suggestion, this place, for dimsum on a Sunday. What captivated my curiosity - my mom told me 'it's 20% off. everyday.' Great! wait, what?

I'm happy that we didn't have to wait at all, the owner was helpful with my questions, we got to loiter there for over 2 hours w/o feeling rushed/crowded, and the bill came out to $36 for 5 ppl (4 girls and 1 swede with a big appetite for soup dumplings).

As for the environment - the bathroom could be cleaner and the facility could be updated, but it didn't bother us. We enjoyed the food, and it came out piping hot (which rarely happens when someone is pushing a cart around the room).

By the end of the meal, my friends and I were wondering about this 20% deal - we didn't see it pasted anywhere on the walls nor on the ordering sheet, but lo and behold, it was deducted from the bill. Haha, yay!

I've been here a couple times for dim sum and it was pretty good. Key word, "was."

I guess it's a pretty popular spot because it's always pretty packed, especially if you get there late, in dim sum terms [10AM]. The food is on par with other dim sum joints but here's why I'm throwing down the one star...

When I order food, I rarely order a side of loogies. Yes, the lady who appeared to be running the joint hocked a loogie about seven feet from my table. Can you say "GROSS??!"

Great not good but Great Dim Sum

also for my surprise day my BF had planned for us to get Dim Sum for lunch, and I was oh so down with that, and not just flying by seat of our pants as we usually do he had checked out reviews on yelp and had picked this play out

we were seated rather quickly, and as we looked around it was like ok the food must be good we are the only white people here, ok their was one girl but she was with a asian guy so that didn't count

so we get seated after about 5 minute wait, this is a small place so it stayed filled the whole time we were there, they gave us the menu and I am like of this is a regular menu and we wanted Dim Sum, now in Seattle they just come around with carts full of steamed basked of goodies and ask if you want any of it, but here we see the guy at the next table has a different menu that we don't have

so I asked the nice lady if we could get Dim Sum and she is like oh you want Dim Sum and she takes away our Menu's and gives us a sheet of paper with food on it and a pencil to mark off what we want then they make it up

Now as I don't really know what we get usually we just say sure to a bunch of stuff and get way too much food and have to be rolled out of the place like a oompa loompa

so the lady is trying to help us by telling us things she likes to eat, so we pick out about 7 or 8 items and sip our tea while we wait for, little steamed goodies to show up at the table

as usual we ordered too much and we tried to Finnish it all off the best we could, I can say it was all good but if you don't do anything else order the custard tarts they come out hot from the oven and are oh so good

we will be back this is the place for Dim Sum and we may even try the regular menu as it looked good also

    Yummy Yummy dim sum!

I'll eat anything with pork in it! Or filled with red bean paste, fried, and covered in sesame seeds!

And....I can't say anything without repeating others....so read An P.'s review.

We got a great deal, especially for a small group of people.

Dim sum, dim sum, dim sum.

Dim sum is one of my favorite cuisines and I enjoy eating dim sum every month in Chinatown. On my last trip, I spotted this dim sum restaurant all the way at the end of Old Chinatown and kept a mental note to come check it out for the next dim sum trip. The day finally came, and it was time to take inventory of what Dragon Court had to offer.

Raul B and Jill M. beat me to Dragon Court and we were able to get a ton of space since there weren't that many people there. There were no carts and expert-level menu ordering with no pictures. We went off and went overboard checking on everything that sounded good and waited as they brought each dish.

The pork shumai was very good and the shrimp dumpling hargow was tasty with proper texture and taste as well. Pork spare ribs could have been more tender and it was not as rich as I would have liked,  but the beef spare ribs were a good change of pace. The great thing about all of the dishes we ordered was that they were coming fresh out of the kitchening piping hot!

I thought the taro puff was a bit flaky for my tastes and was not as rich as I'd like in the middle but the baos were very good with good pork inside. The shrimp crepe came with Chinese broccoli saving us the step of ordering another dish. We ordered some brisket noodle dish which was surprisingly good and the grilled curry baby octopus was delicious as well.

The employees did not have a great grasp of English and I wasn't quite sure what they were saying some of the time and there was also another group of employees cutting up veggies on a table in the back of the lower dining room which was a bit off. The best surprise was when we got our bill and they subtracted 20% off! I don't know why, but I would assume it was due to it being 1:30pm in the afternoon. The food is not top notch, but if you're looking for a change of place and are looking for value, then head on over to Dragon Court.

Dragon Court doesn't meet the Dim Sum standard :-/

Atmosphere: The entry way of this restaurant is pretty neat - you have a bunch of tanks near the front window, displaying their live seafood, which is always a good thing - However once inside, this restaurant is nothing too fancy and all the tables are topped with the plastic sheet covers.

Service: Service is...mediocre. I don't mean to dog on any of the waters/servers but if there are only 4 tables and you're standing there, please check up at least once to see if I need either (a) a refill of water/tea (b) want to order more food. I guess this is the mentality of the Chinatown servers. sigh

Food: Now, this is for dim sum only. The dim sum here is of not the greatest quality. While I think it's great that they now offer it, I am disappointed that they offer lower quality dim sum. I've had it here twice now, once with my fellow employees and another time with my family. The spare-ribs don't even look like the spare ribs in any of the other dim sum joints. They are a like reddish/pink color and the taste of it is very forgettable. In addition to that, the sticky rice was flavorless, the sui mai had a strong unclean shrimp flavor. Not good in my book. Both times I've eaten here, both times I had to use the bathroom within an hour. :-/ sigh again

Price & Portion: This is the one part where you can't really complain. You get quite a bit of food for your money and on top of that, you get 20% off on dim sum! Personally though, I would pay more for better quality food. If I wanted a bad food at cheap cost, I would go to wal-marts frozen food section.

Overall: Very unhappy both times that I ate here. I would have given one star, but the price/portion, like I said, is something that one cannot really complain about. I don't think I will eat dim sum here again...even If my friends did, I'll suggest other places. 2 stars. sizzle

We wanted an authentic Chinese meal in Chicago's Chinatown.  We came here and were not disappointed.

I would recommend it for lunch.  There is a wide variety and good prices.  It was very dead in there though which surprised me.  Probably because it was at the end of the street.

I will say this, if you have never been to a Chinatown, expect it to be different.  This place fits the tee.  Tanks with crabs in it adorn the front window.  The staff does not speak english well, but the service was excellent.

I ordered General Tso's Chicken, but was disappointed that it was not very spicy.  My only complaint.

OMG! This was a wonderful find. My husband and I were invited to dinner to Dragon court. I was expecting a Panda express type  of dinner...no no no, it was fantastic!

First off we ordered off the Chinese/authentic menu. We ordered the set family style dinner. We got the lobster(stir fried) you can choose how you want it cooked.Stir fried crabs,  steamed oysters with black bean ( DELISH!), stir fried Chinese broccoli. I ordered the "Malaysian Squid" not knowing what it was. The waitress tried dissuading me from ordering it, she said it would be  too strong a taste, I ordered it anyway. It was fabulous! It was stir fried with shrimp paste and unbelievably delicious.I love shrimp paste even though it has a strong smell, as a matter of fact I love the smell!

The Decor is rather dull and minimal. You can't miss the lobster, crabs and fish swimming in the tanks. My heart instantly fills with happiness when I see them, I know for sure my sea food is fresh.

The restaurant does not have a parking lot, you have park on the street or at the public parking lot and walk to the restaurant.I love this place and will go back  whenever I am in the vicinity of Chinatown.

Sorry to be a debbie downer but this place was awful when I went.  We decided to try it out after reading reviews online.  The atmosphere was really terrible, bland and silent, the only thing we heard out of the (empty) restaurant while we were there was our waitress burp in our direction - twice. We got some sort of pork and rice and a few other unappetizing dishes.  Overall it was a very awkward dining experience, and paired with the food quality it was generally unpleasant.

Went for a birthday dinner.  Two big tables so we were able to get the family style Chinese.  I don't get this very often so I was very much looking forward to it.  The meat platter was tasty, the yummy jelly fish and fish crackers.  Then came the soup, it was pretty tasty, but my family always gets sharkfin soup, so I felt this was the cheap way out.  A bunch of entrees, tofu dish (ok), abalone (ok), steamed fish (ehhh), crab (SMALL!!), fried pork chop (pretty good), peking duck (good), noodles and fried rice (standard), and a bunch of other stuff.  Though nothing really stuck out for me.

My friend WAY over ordered, but it ended up pretty pricey by the end of it.  Not normal for Chinese family style.  It was not bad, but I prefer other places in Chinatown.

    So good!!

Living in Madison, WI, I never get the chance to taste the real deal. So this was such treasure spot to find in Chicago. And, they had my favorite dish, which is a sauted white fish ( I forgot what it's called) with chienese vegetable (broccolini kind of veggie). PERTFECT. It reminded me of the authentic Chinese dishes that was so accustomed to in California. The service was quick and pleasant. I only have good thing to say about this place. A solid 5 star deal.

Best Cantonese restaurant in Chicago that I have tried. You will notice upon entering that everyone except for you is Chinese, and almost all are speaking in their native tongue. The menu comes in a Chinese version and separate English version. In other words, all good so far.

Now, they specialize in seafood, and if you place 3 orders of the family style entrees, you get a complimentary lobster, which we had stir fried. It was outstanding! All of our dishes were excellent. You really feel like you are eating authentic Chinese food for the first time in your life here. Highly recommended.

    Great food!

I was here this past sunday with my acquaintance. We were looking for a Chinese restaurant to try, and after looking through the reviews on Yelp, Dragon Court was at the top of our list. Yelp has come through again!

When we sat down, the waiter gave us the "authentic" menu. We noticed that the menu was not the same as the menu posted outside, so we snatched the Americanized menu from the counter. (If you're asian and speak cantonese or mandarin somewhat, they will by default give you the authentic menu, but if you're any other nationality, they'll give you the American menu).

We ordered the crab rangoon, orange chicken, beef pan fried noodles, and beef in satay sauce. The satay beef had the right balance of beef, green pepper, and onion. The noodles were a bit oily, but yummy. Orange chicken was great, and so was the crab rangoon. They also gave us complementary soup and bean porridge for dessert. Service was great, and although there were only three waiters and the manager running things, we had a pleasant experience.

Along with Triple Crown, this ranks highly in my list of Chinese restaurants.

At the far end of China town's tourist strip, frequented mostly by 'locals'.  This restaurant is authentic cantonese, specializing in fresh seafood.  While the fresh crabs and lobsters in tanks are a bit pricey, other dishes such as Casserole of fish and tofu in XO sauce is huge, tasty and only $9.  The huge salt & pepper whole Prawns was also wonderful and good value at $12 considering the quantity.  Another plus -- it's BYO.

Delicious!  If I lived in Chicago, I'd definitely be here all the time.  We stumbled upon this place at the very end of Chinatown and though I was starving, tired, and had to pee by then, I'm glad we waited and didn't go into the first place we saw (which probably would have been Penang, which I also love, but we already have that in Boston).

I had the fish fillet with eggplant casserole lunch special.  It was kind of stew-like and very good.  The stir fried green beans were soooo good I wanted to eat the whole thing.

The server was very friendly, and though it is a bit hidden, it really isn't that far- less than ten minutes from the "L."

This place has consistently good Cantonese-style food. The menus are primarily in Chinese (although I'm sure there is an Americanized menu somewhere) so you should either know how to read Chinese or at least be able to endure a Q&A session with waitstaff. The set/family-style meals are a bargain. For example, the dinner for four option gives you have a roasted chicken, a seafood stir-fry dish, steamed fish and a vegetable dish.

Stir-fried green beans, the eggplant casserole and fresh steamed fish garnished with ginger and scallions are my favorite. There is much to try at this place!

Dragon Court is not for the narrow minded, nor the weak of heart.  It is small, not the cleanest place in the world, cramped, and the hostess yells in Chinese a lot.  In other words, it's a little scary. But good. Allow me to expand.

We (party of three) were there Christmas night. The place was packed; we had to wait about 20 minutes, and since we never actually gave the hostess a name, were pretty sure we were in for a Seinfeldian experience ("Cartwright"? Cartwright?").  But we were finally seated, looked through the large menu, and made our selections- crab rangoon to start, followed by Orange Chicken (me), Chicken with Ginger and Pineapple (friend), and some spicy shrimp dish (boyfriend), as well as an order of steamed mixed vegetables. The crab rangoon was pretty standard- seems pretty touch to mess it up, as it always tastes pretty much the same anywhere you get.  And frankly, I'll eat anything that's stuffed with cream cheese and deep fried.  Anyway, The main courses came out, each with a small bowl of rice.  The orange chicken was great, nice flavor and not greasy at all. The shrimp dish, though not as spicy as the hostess seemed to indicate, was tasty as well. The ginger chicken was okay, though the giant chunks of pickled ginger were an unwanted surprise.

Overall, the food was great- best Chinese food I've had in the city so far.  It's a little out of the way for everyday travel, but if you're going to Chinatown it's definitely worth the extra few blocks.
