Duffy's is delicious...everything I've ever had is amazing. We've been doing a lot more take out than dine in due to the fact that their servers are terrible. Whenever I come to pick up takeout, owner is always friendly and food is ready to go within minutes of arriving. I really love this place...It would be 5 stars if the servers would get their acts together...
Review Source:I've only been to Duffy's once and it was on Wednesday for a lunch. Â The place has a lot of character and feels very welcoming. Â I tried both the shepard's pie and the guiness stew (not all by myself ok...and even if it was don't judge). Â Both were great and the portions were basically the equivalent of a large dinner plate. Â I up for Duffy's cuisine again...hopefully on a thursday for the corned beef and cabbage.
Review Source:Love this place for their happy hour!!
Nice selection of half price, full size servings. Â A Duffy burger for $5.99 gets you a huge burger with cheese, mushrooms, onions, lettuce and tomato with a side of fries!!!
Staff is real nice and service is quick. Â Drink specials are cheap and JR is awesome at the bar!
Everything we have ordered is quality and plentiful.
My go to place for years, and not just because I know the family. Â Given what's happened to the overall quality of life in West Haven over the last 20 years, this is one of the few places left that I have no hesitation in recommending to friends and business associates. Â When you walk in you're home; no snootiness, no stares and glares from the bar flies like you'd get at other places (and not just in West Haven), just first class service and quality.
Review Source:Duffy's is by far my favorite restaurant! My husband and I dine there regularly, and no matter what we're in the mood for, Duffy's has it covered. Their regular menu has a wealth of choices, including the traditional Irish foods you would expect from an Irish establishment. They have dinner & drink specials that change monthly (right now I'm addicted to their pan-blackened salmon special, which comes with a delicious gorgonzola sauce - yummy!), as well as offering brunch each Sunday. And if you're trying to keep your dining budget down a bit, come any time before 6pm most days and you can order from either their recession buster lunch specials (11am-4pm) or their happy hour menu (4pm-6pm in the bar). Speaking of the bar, I've passed many an hour there, and somehow they manage to consistently attract a genuinely pleasant group of people. If you'd like to sit for a few hours chatting with friends over cocktails, it's the perfect spot. Overall it's just a really great place to be, with a friendly and outgoing staff to make you feel right at home.
Review Source:Owning a business that services West Haven and Milford, CT I have the privilege of being close to so many great places. Â Duffy's outside patio with fireplace and patio heaters is amazing. Â It allows me to eat and drink outside during the spring, summer and fall. Â Great food, Great people, Great Beer!!!
Review Source:As you can probably tell by my check ins, (52 as of this writing) I am a regular at Duffy's. It isn't often that you find someplace that you want to come back to all of the time. When I first started going to Duffy's, I didn't know anyone or have any connection to anyone there.
Happy hour is an excellent deal and is not a lower quality finger food assortment like other bars. The wings are top quality and the burger and fries for less than a value meal at a fast food joint cant be beat. The normal menu portion sizes are huge and taste great. There is a menu change coming up and I can't wait to see what is added.
I have to say that Julio J.'s review cant be further from my experience. Most of the people I meet at the bar are not from West Haven. I have talked to more blue collar than white collar and very rarely run into a politician. I will also have to agree with Melanie when it comes to the "not really rowdy or drunk" comment. If you want that there is a bar just down the street that can give you that experience.
I am told you are only allowed to use the phrase "best bang for your buck" no more than 6 times per calendar year on this site, so I will attempt to use mine wisely. Â
The best atmosphere in WH. Â Staff is always friendly/charming/elderly.
Chicken marsala and francaise are great, and during lunch hours are offered at a discounted price.
Bar atmosphere is generally for an older crowd.
Every hour or so the staff puts on a display of synchronized manually-powered-19th-century-vacuum-thingy that is breath taking.
Oh, Waste Haven. Good work with an Irish Pub, but it's no Anna Liffey's.
My aunt and I ended up going to dinner here by default because the place we wanted to go was closed and because I was meeting friends after dinner, we had to kinda stick to West Haven. For an Irish Pub, I kinda expected something slightly grittier, but this place was pretty clean cut - even the dudes drinking at the bar seemed like faux working-class dudes (a little too tidy, not really rowdy or drunk - boo!). Anyway, this is a nice place, but not super memorable.
We were both hoping to get scallops, but since they only offered them fried (wtf? way to ruin the world's most perfect food!), we ended up ordering  otherwise - my aunt got the groiled scrod and I got a Nantucket salad with a cup of lobster bisque. Oh, New England, how I miss thee!
The lobster bisque was decent, and the salad was gianormous. I ended up getting grilled shrimp on the salad, which was actually really impressive - four HUGE grilled shrimp. The rest of the salad - a mix of fruits, gorgonzola, and spinach, was okay. I ended up leaving a lot of it just because it was so huge. Oh and I had a blacksmith, which was good (how can you go wrong with Guinness and Smithwicks?) My aunt said her fish was really good and that she was impressed by the crunchy green beans and the fresh side salad that came with her meal.
Overall affect was kind of lacking - the waitress was nice and prompt, but the atmosphere was just kinda EH. I felt like our meal (50 bucks for two people) was pretty pricey for food that wasn't outstanding, but eh, whatever. I remain nonplussed.
Duffy's Tavern has good pub food of the Irish and American variety at reasonable prices with a pleasant ambiance.
I tried the "Duffy Burger" during my first visit and can unequivocally state that Duffy's knows how to make a good burger. My mom enjoyed the Pastrami Special. Portions were generous.
The staff was friendly and our meals were prepared quickly.
What's not to like about this place? Kudos to my mom for finding and suggesting Duffy's!
My Noni speaks in broken English and calls this place "Doofy's".
Great lunch spot in West Haven. Â The basket of Irish soda breads is so good that you may have to pace yourself, you will fill up before your meal arrives.
The prices are reasonable and you can see this from the amount of seniors eating lunch here. Â
The menu has a little bit for everyone. Â Standard Irish pub food such as corned beef and cabbage, sandwiches, burgers, and even a few pasta dishes. Â
My favorite meal is the Irish Wolf Dogs! Â Two hot dogs split open covered in cheese, onions, and kraut. Â A coronary waiting to happen but it is so worth it.
The back parking lot is a bit small and usually filled with Caddies and Lincoln's so you'll probably have to look for a spot on the street.
I definitely recommend Duffy's if you happen to be in West Haven or nearby.
It's pretty nice inside and the food is really solid for what you pay. The service is friendly and timely.
They have a lot to choose from on their menu, from classic pub grub to full-on entrees which those cookie-cutter restaurant chains wish they could pull off in their wildest dreams. Price wise, it costs about the same as dinner at (insert-your-favorte/most loathed-chain restaurant-here).
I wouldn't come here just to drink, as the bar crowd tends to be a little older, but for lunch or dinner you get some pretty decent bang for your buck.
