This place serves up authentic Mexican food! Â First clue was the tender cactus tacos (nopalitos), which even in Tejas I don't see often. Â It was different and interesting, although I prefer tacos with some meat. Â I also tried the barbacoa and the bistec ranchero tacos. Â All three were delicious - served in double fresh corn tortillas, warm and soft. Â The salsa had good flavor and came with plenty of complimentary chips. Â We ordered a side of guacamole, which was very good. Â The inside of the restaurant wasn't much to look at, but the prices were so reasonable that we didn't mind. Â The two of us had lunch, drinks (soft drinks - no alcohol here) and appetizer for under $15 (including tip) and everything we ordered tasted fresh. Â Our server was friendly, although not the most attentive. Â Overall, a great lunch for the money.
Review Source:Great Mexican food isn't easy to find in central Texas. Â If you've been suffering with Gomez's and Emilio's then it's time to go get something that has a flavor! Â
Just a few short miles from Brownwood, there's El Jimador. Â My wife and I moved here from Austin, and we're used to food that's been kicked up a notch or two. Â El Jimador gives us that great experience in a small town. Â
You can't miss the place. Â The roof is extremely green and there's always a ton of cars around it. Â Â We always start off with the 8oz queso and chips. Â They make their own tortillas and the salsa's pretty good! Â
I loved the enchiladas verdes and my wife has the cheese enchiladas with the verde sauce. Â There are tons of other selections too, but we haven't gone enough to try much more.
One thing that will make me a weekly customer is the freakin' awesome menudo on the weekends! Â If you don't like menudo, you should try it anyway! Â They must cook it forever. Â Most menudo I've had from big cities wasn't as thick and spicy, and the tripe was much more tender and easier to chew here. Â
The staff is always quick and helpful and the decor isn't much to look at but the food makes up for it all. Â There probably isn't better Mexican food within 80 miles.
