El Maguey Restaurant

After years of being a local Mi Pueblo customer, we were ready for a new Mexican restaurant.  The reviews of El Maguey were high, and while we'd eaten at the Walkertown, NC location, we had not tried visiting this particular location.

Although it doesn't have the ambiance of Mi Pueblo on Stratford Road (Who can resist a fireplace and the aroma of meat on the grill?), the food not only matches Mi Pueblo, but exceeds it in freshness and quality.   The guacamole and pico de gallo were extremely fresh and flavorful; and while other restaurants serve tortilla chips that have been sitting under the heat lamp for hours, our chips were light, crispy, and again...fresh.

Finally, the service was prompt, attentive, and polite.  We received outstanding service from the hostess, our server, and even the manager.

We'll definitely be returning!

This restaurant is EXACTLY the same as every other Mexican restaurant in Winston-Salem, right down to the boring salsa, greasy chips and repetitive menus. Absolutely nothing to distinguish it from any other restaurant. I'll give it 2 stars because it is not dirty and certainly no worse than the others.

This place has good food and friendly staff. My only complaint is the bar is tiny and has not tv or anything lol, you just stare at the wall. Really good food though.
