I'm a big fan.  Good wine list, lovely atmosphere, friendly wait staff.  They don't rush you, and they leave you alone.  Not really helpful about the menu, so you should know what you're getting into, but they let you order a few things at a time, and let the evening stretch out.  One of my favorite places to hang with friends and get some small bites.

The Valencia Margarita was the best drink I've ever had. Juicy, good alcohol content, flavorful and generous. Perfect with all the yummy tapas. Enjoy!

We tried this restaurant based on reviews.
Pros: great place to relax and eat. They do not rush you at all.
Cons: mixed feeling on food. Calamari was good. Cheese plate was decent too. Turkey meatballs were bland and so were the croquettes. The same sauce came with multiple dishes.
Customer service - when we mentioned that we did not like some of the food, the waiter just nodded and took it away.. No questions, apology etc..

    Excellent.  Just excellent.

The food can only be described as one word "fresh". Really excellent tapas - with a great mix of fresh herbs. As most of the main courses have meat in them, (and I didn't want meat), I put my own dinner together. (I had fried asparagus with a side of pea soup).

The reason I gave it a 3 and not a 4 is because when my boyfriend and I went, the waiter discussed how the bus boy did not set the table correctly. Unprofessional - and honestly, had he not pointed it out - I might not have noticed! But this was probably just our own experience - a great place in Westchester!

We like this place for its atmosphere, service and quality tapas.  Have been several times and its consistently good.  The clientele is trendy which is a positive in an upscale suburban location.

Excellent cheese plate along with all the usual Spanish suspects.

Overall disappointed not with the experience, but the food. Ambience was great, service, amazing. Food was not great, just okay. Cold dishes were just out of the fridge, not room temperature. Textures were overdone and flavor lacking or disguised.

The decor was good.   But, several food plates disappointed.

The papa bravas were left uneaten. .  The sangria was not to my taste, no fruit at all  in the glass.    The paella also failed, it just seemed to be odds and ends thrown on a salty brooth rice

On the otherhand a clam plate with small amount of sausage was memoriably good.

This was my first time at Espana and it was excellent!  Loved the food and the sangria, and the service was great as well (thank you, James!).  Looking forward to my next visit.  I highly recommend!

Came back to Espana with friends.  The food wasn't as good as the first time.  Everything was served in a lot of oil.  We still had a pleasant evening.  Being able to order tapas and small plates is fun.

Everything about this place is fantastic.  The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgable about the menu.
Started off with the cheese platter as an appetizer.  went with the 3 cheese, but wish we'd have tried the 6 cheese.  All the cheeses were great.  a nice blend of textures and flavors.  Was accompanied by dates, nuts, crostinis, and some chutney mix that was fantastic!
I had the Asparagus salad with shallot vinaigrette.  The dressing was fantastic.  and the asparagus was perfectly cooked
Then I had the Mar Y Montana.  Grilled filet mingnon with a huge shrimp.  with a black truffle and mushroom sauce.  The steak was soooooo perfectly cooked and quite a generous portion.  the sauce was amazing.  It was placed on top of scalloped potatoes (that was not in the description but a tasty surprise)
Next Came the Vieres (pan seared sea scallops, Israeli cous cous, grilled zucchini,lemon-basil sauce)  This was great, but not my favorite.  The grilled zucchini was very salty (I like salt tho, so it was good for me) the scallops and cous cous were phenomenal.  and the sauce was tangy.  Complimented the scallops perfectly.

For desert, we had the churros with chocolate and carmel dipping sauces.

Cant wait for our next trip back!  Oh and the chefs specials are amazing.  My friend had the beef stew which was amazing.

    ¡Todo fue excelente!
Everything was excellent!  It was our first visit and we ordered 5 tapas while we waited for 2 paellas.  My girlfriend is allergic is to shell fish and we were able to order a paella with with tilapia and veggies.  The waiter and all staff were very friendly.
The food, service, drinks(sangria), and ambiance was excellent!  We will definitely be back!

Save for one disappointing plate, the experience was really good! Lovely atmosphere and had a nice table right at the front windows. Service was attentive.

    The plates were got:
Alcochofas Fritas $8: fried artichokes, piquillo pepper aioli. Crunchy goodness!
Langostinos $14: seared langostines, caper-tomato-olive vinaigrette, saffron risotto
Vieiras $14: pan seared sea scallops, Israeli cous cous, grilled zucchini, lemon-basil sauce. This was the favorite of the table. Perfectly cooked large scallops on buttery cous cous.
Mar y Montana $16: grilled filet mignon, jumbo prawn, "patatas panadera" black truffle & mushroom sauce. Tender and juicy beef! Delicious!
Polpo a Feira $16: thin slices of octopus over potatoes with paprika & extra virgin olive oil. We found this disappointing as the octopus was rubbery and tastless! The only item we regretted.

Tapas was great though way too expensive.  Was pretty much a regular for about six months but the last time was the last straw.  Seeing the bartender rip customers to shreds after they left the bar was disgusting ... never will I ever go there .... I make a much better sangria...a consistent sangria and I accept any challenge from them with sangria ...

Well, I am just in LOVE with tapas spots.  I like the idea of being able to sample and share a bunch of different plates and be able to pair them with great wines.

Espana has a really nice menu from what I saw.  My hubbs and I purchased some vouchers that got us 4 tapas plates and 2 glasses of wine.  We also ordered an extra starter of the tomato bread.

Hubbs had the Pollo en Escabeche and the Pinchos de Morunos and I had the Brandada with Cod and Potato (tasted like a West Indian Sunday morning...lol) and the Langostinos.  I have to say that they shorted me on one prawn.  I was supposed to have 3 but they only plated 2.  I didn't say anything.  I figured it was because we were using a voucher.

Whatevs...the food was good, the service was so-so and the wine list was tops.  We will definitely be returning and hopefully we'll have an equally good time.

Went to Espana last night to use a Groupon we just purchased. Everything from the food to the service was wonderful! We loved the filet mignon, the scallops with Israeli couscous, and the lamb chop special was out of this world! Cant wait to go back again.

Espana in Larchmont is a great place for tapas.  If you have never tried it, this is a GREAT place to start.  The staff is knowledgeable and courteous.   I found the flavors to be authentic.  My favorite menu items are Gambas al Ajillo -sauté shrimp in garlic & parsley , Vieiras -pan seared sea scallops, Mar y Montana grilled filet mignon, jumbo prawn.  I had the house red - it was excellent. Very fresh and very flavorful!

I don't normally care for octopus, but this mollusk was outstanding.  Same for the halibut, croquettes, cevice, and monkfish.  I went on the Friday before 4th of July and they were not terribly busy, while Tequila Sunrise (next door) was plenty busy.  The portions are slightly larger than I expected for tapas.  The croquettes are an especially good value.  Desserts seemed a little spendy.

Food is yummy, quick, filling and exactly as you would expect it to be.

My fiance and I always sit at the bar because the bartender is really nice and ensures that we leave there full and tipsy!

The prices are a bit on the higher end for Westchester, but the portion size for the small plates are in fact quite large and when we are in the mood for tapas and wine, this place is impressive (think what you may find in Manhattan).

Also, we have never waited for a table here which is great.

My friend and I ordered some tapas from the special menu.  3 out of the 5 we ordered were ah-maaaazing!!!

Croquettes: served warm with a crunchy coat, creamy mashed potato inside. Deliciousness with every bite.

Scallops served with couscous: Such beautiful presentation!  The 3 scallops were pan seared to perfection.  The couscous was well cooked and tasted amazing with the lemon butter sauce.  10 dollars for this filling tapas dish.  I could eat this dish and rave about this dish forever.  I really hope they still have this item on their menu the next time I go.

Cheese sampler.  They chose 3 very different cheese from mild to strong, and all of them were very good.  The price is a bit steep though, 3 small chunks for 12 dollars.

The "meh" dishes: empanadas.  I wasn't a huge fan of the skin, and the fillings reminded me of asian spring rolls...

Little late on the review, as I was there about a month ago.

Went with some friends on a Friday night because I had picked up a discounted gift card to it.  Nearly passed Espana by on the street.

We were there for an early tapas dinner (around 6:30 or so), and aside from one table were the only ones in the restaurant.  I will say, I'm not familiar with Larchmont...were went in casually dressed, and after more patrons began filling in I definitely felt that we were under-dressed.

Anyway, armed with a pitcher of red sangria for the table, we decided to each order 2 or 3 tapas and share around the table.  As you can tell from the menu (if you decide to visit the web site) it's a little pricey (as tapas restuarants tend to be), but not one of us had a negative thing to say about the food.  Included in our dinner choices were:

Jamón (ham - I did not get to have a slice, but was told it was delicious)
Pimientos del Piquillo (peppers stuffed with salmon and goat cheese mousse - very rich, maybe a little too rich to eat all 3 peppers)
Calamres (calamari - honestly, wasn't a huge fan of the sauce but that may be my preference for a more tomato-based one)
Canalones de Espinacas y Gambas (spinach and shrimp cheese canalone with a light amount of tomato sauce - delicious)
...and a few more dishes that I can't remember.  Two of our friends ordered the chocolate mousse with orange for dessert and thuroughly enjoyed it.

Though the final bill was a bit more than we expected (or were keeping track of), it was a nice splurge.

Westchester County has been experiencing of late.  Although there are many restaurant concepts that would (sadly) fail in Westchester, I was excited when I received an invitation to dine at Espana in Larchmont: Chefs Manel Marques and Javier Castellarnau from Suquet de l'Almirall in Barcelona would be preparing an 8 course tasting dinner.

For those of you who have been to Barcelona and dined at Suquet de L'Almirall, you know how wonderful the traditional Catalan dishes and fresh seafood (all of the seafood is caught on the port, which is only meters away!) are.  Throughout this dinner, we experienced some very unique and delightful seafood-based dishes.

Croquetas de Ceps y Langosta: An interesting twist on the typical croquetas, these featured porcini mushrooms, lobster, and a spicy allioli sauce (which we could not get enough of!).

Gazpacho a la Catalana: Much sweeter than the typical gazpacho, due to an abundance of watermelon.  This gazpacho had the slight hint of seafood because anchovies were included in this recipe.

Esqueixada de Bacalao con Romesco y Calcots: Bacalao, grilled spring onions, and romesco sauce seem like simplistic ingredients, but the simplicity allowed the focus to be on the bacalao (which is a very distinct fish on its own).

Coca Catalana Recapta: This was a modern and refreshing rendition of the coca that is served in tapas bars and taverns throughout Barcelona.  A wafer-thin flat bread was topped with tomato, onion confit, roasted peppers, fresh sardines, and serrano ham.  The presentation was beautiful as well.  We were raving about this one!

Pollo con Gambas: Braised chicken and sauteed shrimp were cooked in a saffron chocolate sauce.  The sauce was incredible!  The chocolate was subtle, but you could definitely detect its presence.  The sauce was really versatile in that it worked so well with both meat and seafood.

Three people, three different options for Course 6, which were all rice-based dishes.  We received a full portion of each.  Insanity!  Wearing skinny jeans = huge mistake.

Caldero de Arroz del Pescador: This was my favorite of the rice-based dishes.  It was more of a lobster stock bouillabaisse and had lots of lobster, shrimp, scallops, and clams.  It was easy to detect saffron based on the aroma.  (Sometimes tumeric will be used as a cheap substitute to color the stock or sauce.)

Arroz Mediterraneo: This rice dish featured vegetables, monkfish, clams, cuttlefish, and olives.  It was good, albeit a bit salty.

Paella de Mariscos: This paella had an abundance of clams, mussels, cuttlefish, scallops, and shrimp.  It was also prepared in a saffron-based broth.  It was excellent in that it captured so many elements of seafood.

    And for dessert:

Musico con Mousse de Queso Fresco: This was our first dessert course.  Marscapone was layered with mixed nuts, pistachios, and topped with Pedro Ximenez caramel.  I loved the sweet-savory contrast.

Sangria refrescante: Tropical fruit sorbet was served in cold sangria soup with candied fruit.  More contrast, this time between sweet and tart flavors.

Based on the crowd filtering in and out of the restaurant during the evening, I'd venture to say this event was a success.  It is my hope that Espana, and other Westchester restaurants, will continue to host special events that expose this typically sleepy and conservative area of New York to new and "unusual" cuisine.

Finally got dragged to this place by my girlfriend. I amused to Tapas being pricey but was surprised at the great food for a genuinely fair price.

If you never had Tapas this is a great place to go and sample different types since it won't break the bank.

    3.5 stars.

Big portions for tapas.  My sister Dana F. and I were about to order, like, 8 different tapas, which is normal at most tapas places.  Not here- luckily the waiter stopped us!  We ordered 5 or 6 and STILL had leftovers.

    My favorites...
+ butternut squash soup (soup of the day)- great texture, flavor
+  boquerones (anchovies)...man they are generous with these! :D

    Mediocre...
-/+ Patatas bravas- they were good... but just lacking.  They could have used more of the red sauce.  A lot more of it.  Because when I actually got to the bottom and tasted it, it was shockingly awesome.  It has a great little kick to it and delicious flavor.

    Not so good...
    - The croquettes sucked.  They were burnt and tasted bad.

Dessert time, aka my favorite time, was the best part of the meal. The filloas were great.  Kinda wished I ordered those instead of my sister!  I ordered the churros.  Normally, I don't like churros but these were pretty good.  A little caramel dip and I was a fan.

Loved lunch here.  Butternut Squash soup had beautiful flavors.  Hangar steak was medium as I requested, and the creme catalan was smoothy, creamy and divine.  I'm heading back for dinner next.  The staff were particularly helpful and the interior is pleasant and a great place for a long lunch with friends.

Made a last minute reservation here for New Year's Eve and showed up half an hour late...to be warmly greeted and seated immediately.  Very friendly service and a coy, non-pretentious atmosphere.

Food was good; took yelpers recommendations and ordered:

    *Canalons de Carn
    *Skirt Steak
    *Octopus
    *Seafood Paella
    *Empenada

The empanada was really good, as was the paella. Wasn't sure what exactly to think about the Canalons. The pasta was very fresh and homemade, but it wasn't my favorite.

My wife and I ate at Espana's for the first time this weekend, and it wsa fantastic.  Perfect date place.  We've lived in northern spain for a couple of summers over the last few years, and this place really hit the spot for us.

We had the sangria, which was put together very well, and a selection of hot tapas, and they were quite flavorful and well done.

I've been to Espana 3 times in the last month and a half. Each time with a different group of friends and everyone left thrilled with their meal. Each time my guests and I decided to go with a selection of tapas. Espana does have entrees as well, but the ability to sample so many different foods has always been more fun.

Each day there are a selection of specials as well as a page of cold and hot regular menu tapas options. Some of my favorites from the regular menu were: pimientos del Piquillo (salmon and goat cheese mousse stuffed inside a pepper), Gambas al Ajillo, Patatas Bravas (crispy potatoes with a spicy sauce), Canalons de Carn. They usually have duck, beef, and risotto specials. They always have a fresh twist, and always delicious!

The waitstaff has been awesome and consistent the 3 times I've been. Very helpful in answering questions, choosing the correct number of tapas for your party, etc. Also, once your tapas are ordered they do an excellent job of timing them so they come out in order (cold first) and with time in between to breathe!

Leave room for dessert! At this point I've sampled all the desserts besides the apple and rosemary tart (I will be sure to order it next time). The Torrijas Borrachas con Helado de Jerez (red wine soaked peasant bread, battered, fried & topped with pedro ximenez ice cream) is my favorite! The waiters describe it as french toast. YUM!

I will definitely be back soon!

My new favorite joint in Larchmont.  Among my favorite tapas are the polpo (squid) drenched in olive oil over potatoes, the Canalons de Carne, and whatever empanada del dia is they're serving (usually chicken).  The canalons de carne in particular is awesome.  Ground meat mixture rolled in pasta canalloni with melted cheese on top is as good as it sounds.  They have different types of paella like seafood, meat, vegetable, etc..  The seafood paella is good (not great) with a good amount of seafood although they kinda skimped out on the squid part.  It takes 20-25 mins to prepare the paella so order it first and then order the tapas.  Good place for a nice meal.  Not the cheapest place but most tapas places aren't.

Tapas were good and it's rare to actually find Serano ham in this area, including New York. So great for that. On the other end, the sangria really was below most of the one I tested, very surprising for a spanish restaurant.
And yes, the prices are quite stiff and unfortunately the food doesn't truly justify them it's good but not mind blowing at all.
But for Larchmont it's not too bad and they definitely made an effort on the decor, always a plus. We went there twice might give it a third chance.

The atmosphere is cheerful and bustling and the place looks great, but too bad the food doesn't stand up to its reputation.  The tapas were just alright, and the seafood paella is what caused me to write this review.  The paella was just a plate of mush, with seafood tossed on top.  The best part of paella are the crispy bits stuck to the bottom of the pan and there were none to be found.  It was way too mushy and overcooked.  I wil go back to Peniche in White Plains the next time I have a craving for tapas.  The two of us spent $400 bucks on a bottle of wine and dinner.  Definitely not worth it.

Last night, we went to Espana. It is a new tapas restaurant on Larchmont Avenue in Larchmont. I have to say, the entire experience was so good, that I thought I died and went to heaven.

We arrived for our reservation at seven o'clock. We were promptly taken to a quaint little table in the back. The decor of the restaurant had a very Mediterranean feel. The chefs were situated in the middle of the restaurant, behind the tapas bar so that you could watch as they put together their culinary delights.

When we sat, we were immediately greeted by the house Sommelier, James. He was very gracious and helped us choose a wonderful bottle of wine. There was an impressive wine list. The name of the wine that we chose totally escapes me, but it was from the western part of Spain. The tanins of the wine were incredible. The grapes were so full bodied. It left a lingering taste that was sultry and sexy. Just what we needed.

The menu was really impressive. I couldn't help but be overwhelmed by all of the different choices. It gave the option to be adventurous, to try things you never would ordinarily. After a lot of thought, we picked some tapas that really jumped out at us. With the approval of James, we were off.

When the our first course of cold tapas came out, we were stunned by the presentation. The dishes were beautifully constructed. Before James left us to our cuisine, he simply said, "Have fun." And we certainly did.

We started off with the Ceviche Peruano "Tiradito" which was a sashimi style ceviche. It was very interesting, because it was not Spanish. It was a Peruvian dish. Come to find out, it was the owner's tribute to his wife, who is from Peru. It was served cold in a high martini glass with long strips of fried potato. The flavors were incredible. It had a really pleasant kick of spice to it.

Accompanied with that, we ordered the Ensalada de Remolocha. It was a salad of red beets and yellow peppers. There were also little piles of fresh herbed goat cheese on the plate (which I was about ready to smear all over myself because of how delicious it was). Everything was drizzled with a roasted red onion vinagrette. It was so refreshing and incredibly flavorful.

The final course were two hot tapas plates. The first was the Canalons de Carn, which was hand rolled pasta sheets filled with chicken, pork and veal baked in bechamel. This dish looked so unbelievably appetizing, that I actually ate my first bite of meat in ten months. (Yes, you read that correctly.) I haven't eaten meat in ten months, and this dish made me finally buckle. I can say indeed that it was the best decision I ever made. This pasta was something that I have never experienced before. Tender, juicy and had incredible flavor that I couldn't get enough of.

The second hot tapas plate was the Alemejas. A stew of clams, white beans and little pieces of smoked chorizo. Honestly... some of the best clams I have ever had.

Throughout the entire meal, I could do nothing but moan and groan about how unbelievable the food was. It was a really magical night.

Espana brings the best of wine and tapas to Larchmont.  While Espana does offer food items other than tapas, it's a lot more fun to order a bunch of tapas and share them with your group.  The wine selection is excellent and will not disappoint.

Espana is always very crowded on weekends, so plan accordingly.  If you arrive early (around 5:30pm) you should be fine.  Otherwise, make sure to have a reservation.  Even on weeknights Espana is bustling which demonstrates just how popular this newly opened tapas bar is becoming.
