My search for the best Shish Taouk continues but these are good. I tried the sampler chicken, ground beef and beef kabobs and wanted more seasoning on all. The tenderloin needed more searing but was medium as requested. The chicken wanted more spice and ground beef more sizzle factor. Either their grill wasn't hot enough or lacked attention. The garlic sauce was looking for a friend on the dish as it seemed made a while ago. I'm not sure if it just a quiet off-day but I was expecting more.

I was in the mood for Middle Eastern food a couple of weeks ago, so I googled and found Ferdo's had pretty decent reviews, so I decided to give it a whirl. I should have gotten back in the car and swung by McDonalds after seeing the parking lot completely vacant on a Friday night, trust me, McDonalds would have been a million times more pleasurable.

After my husband and I were seated, our friendly server placed a basket of pita triangles on the table for us to nibble while reading the menu. I honestly think the pita had been salvaged off of prior tables for a week. It was cold, stale and thin. Starving, my husband and I ordered the Ferdo's Sampler to start us off. The falafel was drenched with oil and was over fried. How could one go wrong with hummus? Ferdo's has! It was soupy, and we had to eat it with the stale pitas! The stuffed grape leaves were like mush on the interior that whatever it was stuffed with was unrecognizable (and gross). The Baba-Ghannouj was left alone, it did not have a pleasant taste. It also came with a tomato and cucumber salad that had a bazar spice flavor I could not make out and just by the texture of the veggies, you knew it was not prepared that day.

When the waitress came to take our entree orders, we had asked her what she would recommend, I could kind of sense her internally saying " Run for your lives, before you eat this food and become violently ill!", but instead she responded with, kebobs. So taking her advice, my husband ordered the Shish-Kebab (steak) and I ordered the Shish-Kafta (ground beef). The portions were enormous. My husband seemed to be okay with his steak, but my ground beef kebob could have been mistaken for a skewered pile of carpet fibers. It was honestly, one of the most vile things I have ever ingested. Both of our entrees came with a landfill of Rice a Roni, it was undoubtably a boxed rice mix.

Besides the food being completely inedible, I couldn't help but notice that Ferdo's is "that" restaurant you take a date you don't want to be seen in public with. I thought that was only in the movies. Weird.

If you have a hankering for Middle Eastern food and you are in South Florida, make the trip to Falafel Bistro in Coral Springs, by far the best in Broward County.

Looky here folks, a confession: I've owned middle eastern restaurants in Miami Beach and Ft. Lauderdale and grew up serving as their head chef before graduating to the front of the house and the stress of dealing with actual customers--so I know how to make all the food on Ferdos menu and keenly understand the difference in skill needed to make passable fare from excellent and delicious dining

Ferdos is paradise (and that's what Ferdos means in arabic)

Unfortunately, most of the the tits and tats crowd doesn't have a clue as to what constitutes good food, let alone good Syrian Lebanese food--the ultimate cuisine when done well.  So for much less than what you would pay for more common cuisines with their crap ingredients that bore you to death and numb your palate into a single-minded quest for quantity as the only means to satisfy, you can instead enjoy truly delicious food of great quality and exotic character.  Don't be shy, head on over, because even though the waiter is from the middle east (Ohio) there is much here to take comfort from and come back for again and again.

Here are some of the exceptional renditions of Syrian Lebanese food you will find and enjoy at Ferdos:

Baba ghannouj (done perferct, with a hint of smokey, roasted flavor)
Tabouli (fresh, fresh, fresh and perfect on the palate without too little or too much lemon)
Kibbee Nayee (for those of you ready to enjoy it, it's one of the best renditions, and fresh fresh fresh, again)
Rolled stuffed grapeleaves (spot on perfect appetizer that you will order several times, because you want more)
Shish Kafta (moist and flavorful grilled meat with perfect rice accompanying)
Hummus (try it with the grilled meat on top, awesome)

    Sahk-taine, habibi!

Excellent middle eastern food - better than Maroosh, Khoury's or Daily Bread in Miami. Exceeded all expectations of our party of 8 who are very familiar with these restaurants.

Babaghanoush was excellent. Tabbouleh was moist and flavorful.Grape leaves were also delicious.

The kafta an other meats were moist and flavorful (unlike most middle eastern restaurants where they tend to overlook everything).  Owns said that if you want the meat dry you have to ask for it!

Pastries for dessert were very good but no different than Daily Bread or a number of others As these are supplied from Shatila.

Went tonight with a friend of mine and we were not impressed at all. The place seemed nice and clean. The server greeted us with a smile and sat us promptly. It wasn't full but there was a private party in another room going on. The server then came over and asked us for drinks. We ordered water first because we hadn't had a moment to look over the wine list. Once we ordered the water, the waiter took our drink menu off the table and swiftly walked away. After the waiter went into the kitchen, My friend made a comment to me that apparently we were getting wine tonight. Not with the help of the menu at least...Once the waiter came back we ordered a glass of pinot and the waiter didn't even suggest anything, just walked off. So I guess we got whatever they sell as house... moving on.
We ordered hummus, tatziki to start. We then ordered the sampler and the Gyro plate. The hummus and tatziki sauce were mediocre at best. The pita basket he gave us was cold and half stale. When the food came out, the gyro was plentiful and tasted alright but nothing spectacular. It only came with one thin pita. We asked for another piece of full pita to eat the rest of the gyro meat with and the server told us that he cannot give it to us. He said that he can only give us cut up pieces that come with the appetizer. When I asked why not, he just shrugged, got a frown, and seemingly got irritated that I even asked and said because he cant. I said that doesn't make sense as he turned and walked away, he turned around and angrily said "well I cant do anything!" I told him I know it wasn't his fault but it just doesn't make sense. Apparently he was upset by the fact that I even asked for it, and he gave me a scowl. He brought a basket of the cut up stale pieces of pita and walked away. We didn't see him after that, not even to be able to ask for a refill of water. He had a stank attitude after that and we quickly got our tab and left. I don't understand why its so hard for the kitchen to give us one whole piece of pits rather than the cut up pieces...but whatever.. and the unnecessary rudeness of the server was just uncalled for. I work in the industry and I know how hard it can be, but you don't need to be nasty or rude. I am what you would consider an "over-tipper" but in this case, he was lucky to get 15% from me. I will never be back. They should really give him some lessons in hospitality.  The food on its own wouldn't even warrant a return if the service had been good. Don't waste your time, your palate, or your money here.

Ferdos has the BEST Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern food in South Florida!!! Everything ia always fresh! Probably one of the best REAL lentil soups I have tried in a while! They serve HUGE portions for the price, and the Hummus and more entree is amazing! I definetly reccomend this place :)

I have been to Ferdos a couple of times now and my opinion has been the same every time - it's just ok. The most recent time I went was a Saturday night when they have belly dancing. The music was nightclub level loud, you had to scream at each other. The dancing itself was not really something I want with my dinner, even though the dancer was doing a fine job. The food, as usual was alright. I had a Mahi salad this time and was a little disappointed that in came on the lowest of all lettuces - iceberg, with a standard honey mustard dressing, nothing home made nothing middle eastern about it. The falafel appetizer was dangerously dry. My husband had the gyros which he loved, but I think a restaurant should have more than one decent dish on the menu. Oh and whatever you do, don't eat the pita bread that is served on every table, it is horrible. It looks and feels, and I imagine tastes, like cardboard. Not even the olive oil on the table can bring it back to life. I can't imagine that there is one person who enjoys it and Ferdos should be ashamed to serve something that bad.

I've been on a Middle eastern kick ever since an amazing lunch at Levy's Kosher. Unfortunately they are way too far away from my work to eat there during the week. So I began my search for decent Middle eastern food in the Oakland Park area.

I've eaten at Ferdos in the past and had decent if not spectacular dishes. I usually order off the appetizer menu and have tried the sampler plate, and the meat stuffed pita. Today I was craving spanakopita or some version of spinach pie. Mmmmm flaky phyllo and creamy feta and spinach. They offer three types of pie, cheese, meat and spinach so I ordered on of each.

I was immediately disappointed when I opened the take out container. Instead of flaky phyllo wrapped triangles I was greeted by some sort of doughy pastry sitting on limp wilted lettuce and some soggy tomatoes. There was also a pile of dill pickle chips? What's with that? Good thing they use that thick dough for the pies because delicate phyllo  would have been a soggy mess after resting on this pile of randomness.

Swallowing my disappointment I started on the first pie, spinach. Ugh! it was overly sour and dry. Onto the next pie which happened to be meat. This one was better. The meat was maybe just a little under seasoned but it was definitely more tasty than the spinach but also very dry. That left the cheese which was the best of the three. A very watery yogurt sauce and hard pita wedges did little to make this more appetizing.

Unfortunately I won't be eating here again even though it's practically right next door to my work.  But it's Friday and that means I get to eat at Levy's this weekend! Yay!

Food is decent. BF loves the grape leaves. Chicken is rubbery...like it is a cheap cut and they marinate it to death to seem better. Salad is good except...iceberg! Hummus is bitter. Pita stale. Seems as if they are cutting corners. Cooks are probably good but working with inferior product. Decent decor. Clean. Friendly service.

Very underwhelmed here......Read some Yelp reviews and decided to give the place a try.....Pita was store bought and stale to boot.....Garlic sauce was rank......the shish tawook didn't have much flare either...... Whoever yelp'd this is one of the best restaurants ever must eat at Taco Bell a lot or something........Food was disappointing......

Yuk! Yuk! Yuk!! Ok you yelpers who think this place is good or great or amazing umm one question- does your daily diet consume of caned cat food from the dollar store??? This place sucks- the hummus was runny and instead of dressing it with paprika it had cumin sprinkled on it- ahhh WTF is that?? The tabouli was ok if they would have soaked the cracked wheat and parsley instead of just tossing it and throwing it on a plate!!! The ice tea was instant instead of freshly brewed!! But I do have to say the crush lentil soup was great- never had it with onion in it but it was made to perfection! The baklava was dry as hell thought I may have had to ask my boyfriend for the  heimlich!! Save you monies try somewhere else!!

Stopped in here for lunch with some coworkers last week, and was sadly not impressed. The pita bread was clearly store-bought: bland and stale. It was not served to us soft or warm like in a true Mediterranean restaurant. I ordered the chicken shish kebob and the chicken meat, although flavorful, was very fatty! I've never seen chicken with so much fat on it. I barely ate my chicken because I was trying to cut off so much fat. The rice was fine, hummus was nothing special, and the side salad that came with the meal tasted like lettuce soaked in apple cider vinegar. Our server also forgot to bring one of my friends his drink (a glass of water) when asked twice. Compared to other Greek/Mediterranean restaurants, I cannot say that this place stood out to me at all. I was really disappointed. I may go back and give it another shot in the hopes that I was just there on an "off" day. I'll be sure to update my review when I do.

My co-workers and I regularly go to Ferdos for lunch and we have never been disappointed! The chicken is sooooooo juicy and yummy! I wish they delivered because we would eat there even more! The hummus and rice is MEH, but the chicken makes up for it! My co-workers have eat the falafel, beef, etc, and they loved it every time. I just love the chicken too much to try anything else! lol!

I ordered a favorite meal of mine "Galaba".........it is a Middle Eastern combination of chicken, beef or shrimp, sautéed in olive oil and lemon sauce, carrots, onions, green peppers, broccoli and mushrooms, served with rice.
I chose the shrimp........they were very nice sized and Galaba was delicious.
We ordered a plate of hummus for an appetizer and it too was delicious.
There is a "Ferdos" back in my hometown of Toledo, OH too over by the University of Toledo.  Our waitress told me that the owners are brothers and the one brother has the Toledo branch and the other one has the one that I was at in Lauderdale.
I have been to the one in Toledo before moving here and it too was excellent.  I highly recommend it.

AMAZING! Pretty Much as good as it gets for Mediterranean food.  I'm Greek myself so I know good mediterranean food when I taste it and this place has GREAT food..... AND... the portions are HUGE (great for me since I'm a bigger guy) with very reasonable prices.  This place is definitly in my top 3 favorite restaurants all time.

The Gyro Platter and Kabob's are AWESOME and both dishes are HUGE ... Also try the Tabouli Salad w/grilled chicken for a lighter meal which is AWESOME as well.. The Lentil Soup is the best I've had... The Hummus is great... The Fried Calamari is great (and a big portion)...Never had a bad meal here

Side Note:  Not only is the food good but the management and waitstaff are great too!  They make you feel right at home!

We were prepared for a great evening.  Two couples down from New York with a couple from Coral Springs who had great experience with the food and entertainment in the past.  We were looking forward to an enjoyable evening.

Unfortunately, we didn't get one.  The belly dancer was amateur or worse.  She may have had the necessary physical accoutrements but they were hidden behind a girdle like red dress.  She reminded me more of a stripper than an artistic belly dancer.  On the other hand, we may have come on an off night because her picture was not posted as one of the stars.

Notwithstanding the disappointing entertainment we were looking forward to an interesting array of Turkish/Mediterranean cuisine.  We were disappointed, to say the least.  The chopped meat dishes which came highly recommended turned out to have the feel and taste of what they looked like. (In the interest of keeping things clean, I will describe them as dark brown Lincoln Logs).   I could not chew the steak which I sampled from my partner's plate and she didn't touch her dish.  The only platter which may have been passable was the stuffed shrimp.  I didn't taste it, but the person to my left enjoyed it (although I wonder why she kept offering her shrimp to everyone at the table).

Pass on this one and go to your local Shish-K-Bob emporium.

I am looking for a middle eastern  place to dine, this i think is not it.I had lunch this week ,. hummus and a falaful. The hummus was under spiced, not enought lemon, tahini, and cumin. The falaful , completely tasteless. This may be because instead of lettuce and tomatoes they use that commercial crap salad of green, cabbage etc that comes in a 50 lb bag,The pitas were starchy and not heated.Too sloppy for my taste , and although the kabobs , looked good , given what i have seen , i shall not go back.

I used to live in Detroit, where Middle Eastern food is pretty much availble on every corner.  After moving to South Florida, it took me years to find a place that had good Middle Eastern food, but then I found Ferdos.

Ferdos, has the best Gyros, Chicken Breast and Chicken Shawarma around.  I take everyone from out of town to Ferdos and they all love it.  They have a great lunch menu, and on the weekends have a great belly dancing show.

Great place - tried both lunch with coworkers and dinner with the rents.  Both experiences were enjoyed by all. Dinner was on a Saturday night, and the belly dancer entertainment was so much fun! I have tried the lamb, kabobs, gyros, hummus, tabulleh, and several other items & they are all delicious Middle Eastern options.  Lunch was delicious as well - the rice compliments the flavors of the meal nicely (I usually find rice boring). Definitely try it!  Don't be deterred by its strip mall location, just appreciate the ease of parking this yummy restaurant offfers  :)

***Great Middle Eastern Cuisine and Bellydancers!***

Great to go with a huge table of friends during bellydance hours (call to make sure). Marina, one of their belly dancers, is wonderful and gorgeous! Everyone will have a blast! The fish and seafood are fresh, the pita bread with hummus is tasty. Try the skewer plates, and some nice wine with it. Prices are reasonable. Good experience.

We've taken out from Ferdo's twice in the past few weeks. They're always super nice and polite on the phone. The food is outstanding. Their dish,"hummus and more" quickly became my most craveable favorite. The hummus is smooth full of garlic and flavorful, the beef delicious, and the menagerie of vegetables were all cooked to perfection.  It was a deeeeelicious dish for $12.95, and I even have enough for lunch tomorrow. They even included a ton of pita triangles for us to enjoy with our meal. At times, the meat can be a BIT dry. IE: my beef was cooked well-done. I prefer it medium rare. I will be sure to specify the way I want it cooked next time.

This is a place that doesn't skimp on the portions or quality-a very hard combination to find. I understand they also have belly dancers on certain nights-check their website. We have yet to eat inside, but it looks like a very classy place to enjoy a nice evening out. Out of the 3 most popular Mediterranean restaurants in Fort Lauderdale, i've had the freshest tasting food, and best service at Ferdo's.

B+.  specializes in Kabobs.  Although there is a full Mediterranean - Greek menu.

Belly dancers on certain nights. We had chicken kabob--OK, and Steak Kabob--also just ok.   A great "crushed" lentil soup. Really great. A+

Lot's of good rice.Very good Pita Bread served warm.   Vegetables not grilled, maybe they forgot them until it was time to serve them.
    service OK.

A strip mall restaurant with great surprises: attentive and friendly wait staff, interestingly decorated room although a bit too small, authentic Lebanese food deliciously prepared.  Order the tender, tasty, and succulent lamb chops.  Belly dancing on the weekend is lots of fun, especially if you're with a group of friends.

Excellent! I had the Steak Shish kabobs, they were cooked to a perfect medium rare as I had requested and it was a very generous size portion served with vegetables, rice and seasoned white onions, the Hummus with the Pita was very tasty and the spinach appetizer was also very fresh and well put together.  I had a cup of the Lentil soup, it was ok, I prefer it thicker and less lemony, but it was still very good.  I have been to Ferdo's several times now, they have nice portions, very good quality and its very reasonably price.

    Yummmmmmmy!!

    Inexpensive!!!

Just had lunch there and I was soo impressed. I pass by this place several times a week and nothing about the outside or signage appealed to me, but I am glad I stopped in (only b/c someone from work told me to meet them there). Soo surprised how large the portions were, the quality of food, and the price! I tried the Spinach app thing & shrimp kabab on mediterreanen salad. The outside sign reads they are known for their kabobs so I had to try it. I got like 12 LARGE shrimp grilled to perfection & not over cooked! Tasty salad too! I tried my co-worker's chicken kabab which was just as amazing!

Highly recommend this place & I can't wait to go back & try other things!!!

Fort Lauderdale isn't exactly spoiled for choices when it comes to Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food. Fortunately this place does a really good job at filling that niche.

The place doesn't look much from the road situated off the busy federal highway in a rather nondescript strip mall. Once you get inside though you're treated to a rich and warm atmosphere with middle eastern beats played at the right volume to still allow table conversation.

Food is excellent and very fairly prices.  Start off with a Ferdos sampler for a taste off all those great classics such as Baba-Ghannouj.

To my surprise they carry escargots and delicious mussels but the focus is on kabobs, gyros and other Middle Eastern fair, all good and served with fresh salads.

On Saturday nights they have a belly-dancing show. Pretty fun alright, especially to watch the old geezers get up and shake their bones with the dancer. You're never too old to appreciate a beautiful woman I guess...

Place gets busy on weekends so you'll probably have to wait for a table unless you make a reservation.

This is my favorite Mediterranean spot.  The food is fresh and always good, the restaurant has a Mediterranean decor, the service is excellent, and the prices are affordable.  On Friday and Saturday, they even  have belly dancers performing.

I always order the beef shish kabobs, with rice and salad or veggies. The hummus and pita bread is the best I've had. If your ever in the Fort Lauderdale area, stop by and give them a try. They're nestled in a shopping plaza off of US1.

Not bad for Middle Eastern cuisine.  I have been there twice -- the first time, I ordered lamb chops.  The lamb chops were tasty, buit small. The second time, I tried some ground meat (shish kafta), but it was a little dry.

However, both times, the rice was absolutely delicious.  In fact, I could have eaten the rice without the meat.
