Had a really enjoyable meal here for the first time a week or so ago. Â You're looking at semi-upscale Italian/American type food and everything I tried was tasty and generously portioned. Â The calimari with the citrus butter sauce and the crab cakes with succotash were both very good seafood-centric ways to begin a meal. Â I then tried the special soup of the day, a smoky corn gazpacho. Â Not too much corn for a corn gazpacho and it certainly could have used a bit more of that sweetness to cut through the intensely smoky flavor. Â Some would find it terribly off putting but I actually enjoyed the smoke and heat it brought. Â Had the beef medallions over the gnocchi for an entree and for perhaps the first time in my life I needed a box at meal's end.
Only thing I'd particularly change is bringing over the type of interesting and tasty cocktail list they're utilizing at Sardine Room next door. Â Had a pretty awful old fashioned after a glass of totally sufficient red...
All things considered, this is one of the best places to grab a bite in the Northville, Novi, Plymouth area...
We enjoyed our second visit to Fiamma Grill as much as the first. It is upscale and casual at the same time, offers patio dining in good weather, and attentive service. The menu includes small plates and appetizers that would be fine for a light dinner or lunch. The grilled beef tenderloin medallions small plate, which we had as a first course, comes with grilled onions, pearl onions, and sauteed mushrooms in a reduction sauce that is delicious. I had a nice, crisp caesar salad, which includes anchovies on request.
My son ordered a bone-in ribeye the size of your thigh that was perfectly prepared and delicious. I had the cioppino, a delightful combination of mussels, shrimp, lobster tail, and a tomato seafood stock. Both the steak and cioppino were accompanied by twice-fried blue cheese potatoes, which I added to the delicious tomato stock. My wife ordered ricotta gnocchi with beef medallions in a sherry reduction with asparagus tips and shallots, which were tender and delicious.
Dessert was a cheese tasting tray with a selection of Michigan cheeses and Brie with assorted crackers and grapes. Our server, who was very nice, was not knowledgeable about the cheese and mistakenly said the Brie is a goat cheese. The menu indicated the cheese course would include a Raclette, which my wife and I both love, but was not on the tray. The only other downside, which is minor, is our server did not know what fruit was in the fruit cobbler on the dessert tray and was not eager to find out for us.
We did not order wine, but the list was fair and the wine service was good as I watched nearby tables. Â I don't know if the reds are stored at the proper temperature.
On the whole, we love dining at Fiamma and will certainly return. I rarely award 5 stars and the slight misstep on the cheese and dessert course is the only reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars on this one.
Great! Â I came here with a Groupon and walked out with a happy tummy. Â The ambiance was very nice and the noise level was not offputting. Â I came here on a Friday at 8pm and it was pretty busy. Â I made reservations ahead (which I recommend on open table) and we were seated immediately.
We ordered the calamari appetizer and tomato bisque  to start.  It was great! The calamari was not what I expected. They were not the thin kinds that I am used to. Instead, they were cut half inch thick and you had to cut it with a knife. But it was superb! The soup was also good, but I wish there was more seafood in it.
For entees, I ordered the walleye and my boyfriend ordered the steak medallions. Â My fish was decent, but I guess I did not realize it was fried which is a mistake on my part. Â My only complaint is that I found fish scales on the skin of my fish. Â It wasn't a big deal as I peeled the skin back, but that is something that they should address. Â I like my boyfriend's entree a lot more. His steak came with gnocchi and a marsala wine sauce with different types of mushrooms. Â It was really good. My boyfriend hates mushrooms, so I happily ended up eating the rest of his dish. Â No complaints there!
Overall, I had a nice experience. Â Plymouth is a far drive from me, but if I were in the area, I would definitely go back.
I had mixed feelings as we were seated, with the greeter wearing half-calf yoga stretch pants and flip flops...if that's what passes as dress code at a fairly upscale restaurant, I was worried. Â But our waitress was great - Â we ordered the macaroni and cheese appetizer, I ordered the Caprese salad, and my wife ordered the 6oz filet. Â My Caprese was delicious. Â My wife's steak took 3 times to come out properly cooked. Â And the green beans were rather al dente. Â The mac & cheese was great tasting, but oddly runny. Â Everything was seasoned well, and my wife enjoyed the steak once it was correct. Â What I was most impressed with was that the manager came out to apologize, and offered a dessert for the trouble. Â Even the waitress made sure to acknowledge it wasn't my wife's fault for the underdone steak -- as many other restaurants have done that we've never gone back to!
We chose the turtle cheesecake. Â Delicious, although didn't really have much caramel.
Overall, I'd come back, as it has good food and nice atmosphere for a fairly reasonable price. Â Although I'd probably check a few other Plymouth restaurants before.
We decided to try Fiamma Grille after coming across a Groupon a couple weeks ago. It's a very cute and clean restaurant, that was also quite cozy. It was nice to have a coat rack near the table so that our giant winter coats didn't take up all our space, as well. The menu is just big enough to have something for everyone but not so large that you get overwhelmed. Â The wine list is also just the right size and has a decent spread of prices. I ordered the Bogle petite sirah and it was excellent. Now, onto the important stuff - the food!
The breadbasket had a nice assortment of flavored and plain bread, and I love that they bring out a plate of parmesan to mix with olive oil for dipping. I sort of wish they had brought butter too, though, because my husband isn't a fan of the cheese/oil concoction. The white bread was also very, very cold and a little unappetizing. I tried a bit of what seemed to be a pesto bread and a tomato bread, and both were warm and delish.
Appetizer: We ordered the calamari with tomatoes, red onion and lemongrass butter. IN. CRED. IBLE. The sauce came underneath humongous pieces of calamari (3-4 inches long and very thick) that were only very lightly breaded. The calamari itself was tender and had great flavor, and the sauce was like a glorious flavor punch to the mouth. We wound up taking half of it home because it is a lot of filling food for an appetizer!
Main dishes: I ordered the mushroom and leek risotto and the hubs ordered the cowboy steak.
His steak was a very good quality piece of meat, but he wasn't a fan of the spice rub on it. It was just a tad thick and a tad on the salty side. To be fair, he likes his steaks pretty plain so the average steak eater that likes spice rubs and steak sauce would likely love the flavor. It came with asparagus, which was cooked well and had the flavor of the rub on it from being under the steak. He also didn't get any of the sauce stuff that comes with the steak, just the meat and potatoes. The steak came with "twice fried" potatoes, which we didn't know what they were so we asked and the waitress said "they're twice fried." Well neat, but what kind of potato? And cut into what shape? Are there herbs or sauce on them? They turned out to be small potato cubes with some chives on them that weren't crispy at all (which I expected with the whole twice fried thing) but were instead a very smooth texture in middle and still delicious.
And finally, the mushroom risotto. Are you kidding me? Do you have mushroom angels in the back making this stuff? This is the best-flavored risotto I have ever had. The consistency was great. There were so many mushrooms that I didn't know what to do. I think there were four different kinds of mushrooms as well as slices of leek abound. I added shrimp, which were $4 for two, but they were pretty large and complimented the flavors well. I could only eat half of it and took the rest home because it was so rich. Now I want the rest for breakfast.
Overall, I would go back in a second for the calamari and risotto. My husband thought the steak was good, but for the price wasn't overwhelmed. Maybe next time he'll ask for one without the rub and be as big of a fan as I am. He'll have to figure something out, because I foresee the need for a risotto fix in the near future. Either that or you'll know that he declined to accompany me on my risotto excursion and you'll see me there by myself, with 10 plates of risotto.
This restaurant by far is my favorite of the three restaurants linked together on main. The food is an array of simple american classics with a flashes of culinary invention mixed in. This place does not put out mediocrity but rather a real well thought out presentation. I have a real since the Chef understands the trends in the culinary world because the dishes are very on par with other larger well known restaurants.
The ambiance is simple and relaxing with a definite calmness about it maybe its just the lights turned down. The wine and drinks are far more priced fairly compared to their little brother next door. I like when things are very consistent on all accounts meaning the food, ambiance, service, and prices are all appropriately managed.
This place should be experience for dinner. I do like that they offer happy-hour but this should not motivate you to try the restaurant. If you want an enjoyable evening with well produced entrées then this should be the reason to try Fiamma Grille.
Had the great idea to drive all the way to Plymouth from the eastside because Fiamma piqued my interest so much. Â Glad we did.
I am not sure if there is valet or if I did not see it, but we were able to find a spot to park on the street nearby. Â The area is BEAUTIFUL so even though it was cold, we enjoyed looking at the surrounding areas on our quick walk in. Â Once inside, we were met with the sounds of live music and a friendly hostess (Lisa). Â Lisa explained we'd have a short wait before being seated and made sure to match us up with a server at the bar to get us a drink and a seat. Â We actually saw her several times that evening, making quick talk passing our table on her way, and she was quite the sport and super friendly! Â
We were seated in a nice, large booth. Â (I love elbow room).
Our server, Dale, was also quite remarkable. Â She was able to inform us of the specials and enticed me enough to try the sweet potato bisque which was different for me. Â I liked it a lot, and would recommend.
For dinner, I chose the peppercorn new york strip oscar and my date had the enormous cowboy steak. Â I'm normally a filet girl, but I was very happy with my delicious choice - and even had enough to take some home (and it was still heavenly the next day too). Â I added a lobster tail to my meal as well and was glad I did. Â Perfection! Â Dale was even able to help me (and my bad eyes) locate a malbec on the wine list to pair with my meal. Â
My date was one of those steak eaters that I want to smack that don't want ANY pink in their meal (and this is a woman who eats medium-medium/well). Â We explained to our server "no pink" and well-done when ordering. Â Now, I understand with a 20 oz cut it's going to be difficult to accomplish that but that's what he wanted. Â The majority of the steak was delicious and he quickly made his way through it. Â However, once he got mid-way to the middle it was QUITE red (not pink but red). Â We did ask Dale to have it corrected and she immediately solved the issue. Â Not her fault, and she quickly remedied the issue, but it was kind of a disappointment that the chef could not have gotten it right the first time. Â However, once returned, it must have been good because my date devoured the entire thing (greedy - just greedy, lol). Â
As if that wasn't enough food heaven, I decide to brave the dessert try and I selected the most heavenly tiramisu I have ever tasted. My date is usually one to turn his nose up at my "fu-fu" desserts and wanted to do the same to this but I begged him to try. Â He said it was like sex for the mouth. (Guess that's a pretty high compliment). Â Â Then I had to tell him to stop eating it (damn, I messed up). Â It's also a HUGE portion and I took some home too - and it, as well, was confirmed as the best tiramisu the next day.
Aside from the issue with the steak, everything about our evening was spot-on wonderful! Â I do not live in the area but I would happily make a trip to Fiamma again for a meal. Â It really is that good. Â Also, while it's not a cheap dinner, I felt it was very reasonably priced for the meal, ambiance, and service. Â I can easily see my next experience making the 5 star mark - easily. Â
Highly recommend.
We came here on Christmas Eve and this place was packed! Â They told me that they had over 400 reservations (which I am assuming was between the three restaurants that they own here on Main Street)
But the good news is that even though there were people milling in the bar (listening to the live music which set a nice tone) when we got there for our reservation, they immediately seated us in the main dining room which was a nice surprise!
They were serving their regular menu but also had plenty of nightly specials and they all sounded good! Â We started with some of their fresh oysters (three different types on this night) and the beef tenderloin served with peppers (sort of like Swiss steak). Â We also split the caprese salad which was also quite good.
For our entrees- we all had steak- the 20 oz cowboy steak, the NY strip covered in peppercorns and the small filet (they have 3 different sizes) Â While they all came with some sides (mashed garlic potatoes, asparagus, au gratin spinach, etc) there are other sides available too, like sauteed mushrooms, etc. Â All the steaks were perfectly prepared and tasted great!
But I suggest you save some room for dessert as the dessert tray is so tempting; Â Red velvet cake, 7 layer chocolate cake, coconut torte, apple berry pie and the king of them all- the homemade tiramasu! Â We went with the tiramasu and this mound of deliciousness was probably the best tiramasu that I have ever had. Â And a big enough piece to take some home.
Service was excellent. Â Patti, our server was helpful and patient accommodating all of my dietary requests with a smile. Â It was busy so the hectic pace may have upset some of the normal timing of the place (like it took a long time for the appetizers to come up) but that was fine given we were in no hurry.
Dinner for three ran just under $200 which was very reasonable given we had plenty of leftovers for the next day. Â And as for parking- there is plenty of street parking available right in front of the place (and on this night there was a valet as well)
Good food served by pleasant servers in a lovely environment, Fiamma Grille really met all of our needs on this snowy Christmas Eve. You can bet I'll be back to enjoy it on another night when it is a little less crazy!
My girlfriend and I decided to give Fiamma Grille a try after having such a great time at the Sardine Room.
We ordered 2 drinks: an Old Fashion and one of the martinis. My girlfriend liked the martini but the glass had a crack in it. The waiter replace it immediately but we expected a little more (if you know what I mean) since it was a health hazard. The Old Fashion was disappointing. It was basically a manhattan with an extra shot of something. Skip it entirely and head over to the Sardine Room if you want a good Old Fashion.
We ordered some oysters, the Prince Edward Mussels and the Ricotta gnocchi and Piedmontese medallions. The food definitely did not disappoint. The Prince Edward Mussels had a great broth that was soaked up by the tasty bread they provided. It also came with a side of potatos that made it an entire meal. The gnocchi was really good and not overly filling like some of the potato based ones. The meat was tender and the wheels of brie on top just made it all better.
The service was good, the drinks ok and the food was pretty good. The ambience is definitely a older crowd but would return just for the gnocchi and mussels.
Hubs and I had a nice dinner here back in July during art fair week. Â We went for old people dinner time (about 5). Â Service was great and we both enjoyed the food. Â They say they have a gluten-free menu, but the server didn't seem to "get it". Â We wanted him to double-check something that ended up on my husband's plate, and he had no idea if it was GF. Â To be on the safe side, he didn't eat it, which was pretty disappointing. Â I'd probably give them another chance, because we did enjoy everything we were able to eat.
Review Source:I was here a few months ago for a baby shower, which was not during business hours and we did not have access to the full menu.
The restaurant is nice & even has a banquet area. I really enjoy the wrap around booths.
The main dishes were delicious. All plates were clean, even by the kids! Â Service was good as well.
When I have a chance to eat here during business hours, I will update my review.
Tuesday night and it's time to celebrate our anniversary, we wanted to stay close to home and Fiamma was an easy chocie for the type of dining we were looking for (upscale, nice variety, intimate setting, a menu that reads like a dream, and completed with an excellent waitstaff). To our surprise Tuesdays are half off bottles of wine, don't mind if we do. We received a basket of bread that not only had the regular rustic Italian bread but it also had a selection of pieces that had olive tapenade, tomato spread, or roasted garlic on them and a plate of olive oil and parmesean cheese, yum! We then proceded to order a spread fit for a king:
To start: Prince Edward Island mussels with Italian sausage in a light tomato wine sauce accompanied with twice fried potatoes. Everything cooked perfectly and boy was I glad we had that bread to soak up all the sauce. The price was very agreable and the portion size was HUGE.
Wedge of iceberg lettuce with garnish of olive tapenade, roasted red pepper, cucumber, bacon, olives, tomato, and blue cheese dressing. I love wedge salads but I have to say this was a bit of a let down. For one, there is no blue cheese crumbles, just the dressing and that comes on the side along with everything else. I did enjoy the green olives and the tapenade but I found them a rather odd pairing with blue cheese dressing. As for the tomato and the roasted red pepper, I could do with out. Lastly, I would like more bacon but who wouldn't?
Main dishes, we both ordered one of the evening specials: Surf and Turf, bone-in pork chop, bacon wrapped scallops, roasted veggies, and garlic mashed potatoes served with a sweet and sour bbq type sauce. With this meal I heard no complaints just a lot of yummy sounds.
Halibut with a mound of crab and a red pepper bernaise sauce all atop a house made pilaf and asparagus. I also have no complaints, the fish was cooked perfectly, the crap was sweet and fresh, and the housemade pilaf, amazing! There isn't a single bad thing I could say about this, it was even good when I reheated my leftovers the next day :-)
Side dish: Fried brussel sprouts with apple cured bacon and walnuts. These were good, smothered in a kind of smokey Asian type sauce.
All-in-all this was an amzing meal and a perfect way to celebrate, we could not have been happier with our food and over all experience. We will definitely be sharing more memorable evenings here!
I've been here twice recently, once in bar area and once outside. Â We've only had a few of the appetizers and oysters and everything has been tasty and we've enjoyed ourselves. Â The atmosphere inside is nice and sitting outside in the summer is always relaxing but what merits more attention is proper wine service. Â The first time the bartender scared the bejeezus out of both of us by removing the cage of the sparkling wine and then more or less aiming the bottle at us before beginning to open it. Â The CAGE IS ON FOR A REASON and should remain on while removing the cork. It is downright dangerous to take the cage off and I have personally seen corks fly out after removing only the cage. Â Several other points of proper wine service were missed but suffice it to say, since they have Wednesday 1/2 off bubbly, they should follow proper bubbly service protocol. Â On the second visit a couple at the next table left with their wine bottle not fully corked and not in a bag, yikes. Â As nice as Fiamma is, it bothers me basic proper wine service is overlooked with the biggest pet peeve being the server never returning, ever, to pour the wine for us. Â I overlook proper wine service in other places not as nice, but here it should be followed. Â Food service, on a positive note, was generally good and water filled regularly.
Review Source:Fiamma is probably one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Â I have now eaten there about 3 times in the past year, and each time was excellent.
They have a very good wine selection, and virtually every appetizer and entree I've tried has been delicious. Â My favorite is probably the Gnocchi with Filet Medallions. Â In fact, the last time we had dinner there (earlier this week) all 3 of us at the table ordered the Gnocchi.
The service has been consistently very good, as well, and the two different servers were quite knowledgeable about the selections, including the wine.
I will certainly be coming back.
First time visitors and it definitely will not be the last. Â Great location, right in the heart of Plymouth. Â Very upscale look, but an eclectic group of patrons. Â jeans, suits and worst of all, kids! Â
This is not a kid friendly place but there are always parents who insist on bringing their kids with their electronic noise makers who destroy the ambiance for all. Â But, I digress...
There were five at our table so their was a variety of entrees. Â Whitefish, steaks and risotto with lobster. Â Everything was delicious and well presented. Â Our waitress took the time to explain the specials of the day, but failed to introduce herself, so no kudos to her.
We did not have any drinks and the busboy (?) never let the water glasses get more than half empty, or should I say half full.
The only complaint, and it is very common in these upscale locations, is the dinner salad. Â If you are going to charge for a salad, give me more than a handful of lettuce. Â A lesson which really needs to be learned by this diner.
All in all, a wonderful surprise for a first time diner. Â Next time, we will plan an going on a nice night, to be able to sit outside and enjoy the view of Kellogg park.
Really Fiamma? We expected more from you. My dining partners and I went to Fiamma this past Wednesday for my birthday dinner. We had all been there before (separately) and had great food and service. This time, though, was close to horrible. My dining partners both ordered filet mignon a certain way (they prefer medium-well and well, respectively), and both came out pretty close to rare the first time. At the same time, my fish came out - completely cold. My dining partners sent their steaks back from some grilling, and when presented the second time, they looked the same. The steaks went back again, and we were told new steaks were being prepared. The manager brought them out - still not done to my dining partners' desired specifications, but acceptable enough. However, the manager attempted to make excuses as to why the steaks could not be cooked to order and then, instead of trying to rectify the situation, simply walked away from the table, never to return. He must have gone to clown manager school. I wish I had caught his name. Reportedly, the flavor of the filets were good. My grouper (the special of the evening) was edible, definitely nowhere near what I would consider really good seafood. We did order a few of the homemade pot roast raviolis, which were quite delightful. Our waitress was decent too and we got a free dessert for the trouble. Overall, however, for the price of this place, this was a bad experience. I would try it again with the hope it would be better, but only once more at this point. It's too bad - downtown Plymouth needs the great restaurants (and service!).
Review Source:I came in for one of their special December lunches with the parents. You have to celebrate whenever my mom feels well anymore. Depressing but true.
We started with big nosh. The large house made smoked plate, which is served cold, featuring pepper encrusted hot smoked salmon, cold smoked salmon, whitefish and salmon pate. It was big plenty for us, they did not skimp on accompaniments. We also sampled a traditional Italian antipasti plate, which had marinated eggplant, artichokes, fontinella cheese, mixed olives, roasted peppers, feta cheese, sopressata and prosciutto ham. We were very pleased with the variety. We love to graze.
My dad ordered ricotta gnocchi and piedmontese medallions tossed with exotic mushrooms, shallots and asparagus tips in a sherry wine sauce, topped with brie as his main. The gnocchi was clearly homemade and the medallions were cooked nice and tender. It came with a dinner salad with red wine vinaigrette which was good. He liked the meal, although it was rich, he filled up on app and starter salad though so he ended up packing most of it to go.
My mom had a  baby spinach salad with bacon, cherry tomatoes, spiced pecans, Gorgonzola cheese,  red onion and egg. It was tossed with a roasted shallot vinaigrette that was happy to my tastebuds. She was a fan too. Perfect size to boot with the prior food we consumed.
I went with the crimson roasted beet salad which starred mixed field greens, roasted beets, chevre cakes, toasted almonds, grapefruit segments and red onion in a lemon honey vinaigrette. I added on some tasty chicken which blended nicely with the other ingredients and made it a bit more hearty too. I'm a sucker for grapefruit, beets and chevre so of course I was delighted to find them all on one plate.
We had been prior and this was on par. We will be back again.
I've been a regular here since Fiamma opened, so much so that I'm here hanging out with the local residents on the weekend, or every-other weekend or so. Â
Let's start with the food: Â It's really good and the menu features a variety of items sure to please just about anyone's palette. Â The daily features are almost always a hit, especially the mixed grill. Â The Calamari is just about the best I've ever had, and you can get it two ways (my fave is with the San Marzano sauce). Â The other appetizers are worthy of trying, including the mussels, short rib quesadillas, the cheese tasting and the smoked fish plate (one of my routine favorites). Â The house salad portion size is large, but even better is the wedge of iceberg lettuce salad, which comes with a ginormous piece of iceberg lettuce (boring you say? read on) but that's not all. Â It comes with a chunky blue cheese dressing, warm crispy diced bacon, an olive tapenade, diced roasted red pepper, a variety of olives and diced tomato plus a pepperocini. Â Heaven on a plate. Â The antipasti plate is good too, enough to make a meal!.
General portion sizes are big, so good value for the price you pay. Â Chef John does a really nice job keeping the menu fresh, as it changes a couple times throughout the year. Â I think he's got a very nice array of items that are not overly seasoned. Â Just enough, but not too much salt. Â (Some restaurants overcome bland taste with more salt, but not here!) Â Plus, he swings out from the kitchen from time to time and asks for feedback on our meals, and what else we'd like to see offered. Â Pretty cool. Â Of the entrees, I frequently get the salmon, walleye, filet and tagliatelle bolognese (the latter will put you in a food coma it's so good) or one of the daily specials. Â
Let's move on to the staff/service:  I normally sit at the roughly 20+ seat bar with friends.  Jessie and Suzanne and the rest of the gang take very good care of guests, no matter if you're a regular like me or a first-timer.  And they'll concoct new drinks if you describe something new based on taste  you want to try.  Drink portions, such as a wine pour, are very generous.  Drinks aren't cheap, but the selection of wine is wide and varied and there isn't a bad selection on the list.  No complaints on this one from me!  Meanwhile, the General Manager Pat is always welcoming and chats with people throughout the evening.  A very present and involved GM and he's always super nice.  He's very well suited for the job.  The owners are there frequently as well and they're also nice.  As is their son Ryan who's there almost always when I drop in.  He always come by to say hello and chat.  Bottom line, fun staff, great service, and they appreciate your business.  What more could you ask for?
And now for the ambience: Â It's an elegant restaurant and during the summer months you can enjoy the outdoor patio seating. Â But be prepared to wait over an hour if you don't get there early. Â So be sure to make your reservation! Â Or sit at the bar as I do as a drop in diner. Â The restaurant is geared to adults, but if you're looking for a family-friendly restaurant you can walk through the back of Fiamma and into Compari's right next door (owned by same family).
Secret hint: Â Since Compari's restaurant right next door is owned by the same family, you can sit at the bar at Fiamma and order off of the Compari's menu. Â Shhhhh, you didn't hear it from me! Â
Who is Fiamma for? Â Dining alone? Â sit at the bar and join in the fun (lots of locals hanging out). Â Couples, special occasions, drop in before seeing a moving across the street at the Penn Theater, and for group events they have a banquet dining room that seats at least 50 people (think showers, rehearsal dinners, etc) and if you really want to go big, you can rent the whole place out as a private event. Â
All in all this is one of my favorite places to go for so many reasons. Â Drop in sometime and check it out. Â
Plus! Â 1/2 off bottles of wine on Tuesdays, usually open for lunch on select days of the week during the month of December, but call to be sure; (and Sundays during the month of December); and 1/2 off appetizers after 7pm on select days. Â And more special events t/o the year, so check out their web site. Â
Best of show? Â Calamari with San Marzano sauce.
WOW! My favorite restaurant in Plymouth. The food is consistently fantastic, the wine offering expansive, the staff friendly and attentive. It is just a great experience at a reasonable price point. Their mixed grill is what I usually end up with. Always a treat. I will continue going and look forward to the new restaurant the owners are opening next to Comparis.
Review Source:Somewhat disappointing. Â After a great start on apps with the Antipasti Plate and Fried Green Tomatoes, our dinners went downhill. Â My wife ordered the gnocchi and piedmontese medallions. Â The gnocchi were decent but the medallions were bland and dry. Â I ordered the Piedmontese Filet with zip sauce. Â I requested medium rare but it appeared that the steak must have sat for awhile because it had become a somewhat dry 'medium' by the time it reached our table. Â Without the zip sauce it would have been rough. Â The potato was very dry and the side of veg would have been great when it was originally cooked 3 days ago. Â Waitstaff was very attentive though. Â Just not as impressed with this place as I was the first couple of times prior.
Review Source:This is a great little spot in downtown Plymouth - especially if you can sit on the sidewalk in summer. I will agree with some of the other reviewers that it can be a little spendy, but it is a steak and seafood place - kind of expected.
I've probably been here a dozen times but only eaten in the dining room once, so here's what I'll say: It's a great option for sharing a few appetizers and some good cocktails. The "small plates" are better than many of the main entree's nearby, and if you're looking for more of a light meal, I love ordering off the starters menu.
We like to hit the patio or bar for happy hour and order up an antipasto plate, maybe some calamari or gnocchi (the menu is seasonal and changes) to share.
There's also a bartender there that makes a top notch Lemon Drop Martini. Next time I'm in, I'll get her name so everyone can ask and enjoy a Lemon Drop Martini done right!
It was this time last night that I was sitting at Fiamma Grille for the first time and let me tell you, it has left a lasting impression. I can't remember the last time I had such an exquisite dining experience as this and walked away with a new go-to place for when I really want to treat myself to the finest and nothing but the very best will suffice. My wife and I started the evening off right by sitting at the bar (on the Compari's side) and sipping an extraordinary 12 year whiskey on the bartenders recommendation. This bartender was very knowledgeable in his craft and was heavy with the pour if you know what I mean, it was as if we knew each other or something. After our indulgence on fine spirits we made our way to our table inside Fiamma and immediately took notice of the atmosphere, dimly lit, white linens, black and white photos, it was perfect. When I looked over the menu so many things jumped out at me I wasn't sure where I was going to land when finally making my selection. To start out with I ordered a plate of raw oysters and a bottle of champagne and my wife got the shrimp cocktail. These oysters were excellent, freshness was the star of this dish and after eating a few with the provided horseradish and lemon I decided I was bastardizing them and should just let the sweetness and cucumber finish dance around solo on my palate for the best presentation of their flavor, wise decision. I tried the shrimp cocktail as well and similar to the oysters, the freshness of ingredients was front and center. If this was any indication as to how our entrees were going to be we knew we were in for a treat. One key point I would like to bring to the readers attention is that Fiamma makes their pasta homemade. What do you get from other local Italian restaurants? Yeah...boxed barilla passed off as high end cuisine. With this in mind, and my wife being the pasta connoisseur, she ordered the roasted chicken fettuccine, and I the walleye. While we were waiting for our entrees we were served soup and salad of which I had the corn chowder, it was simple, rustic, country Italian and tasted just like I would make at home. When our dishes arrived the presentation was perfect, pure culinary art. My walleye, lightly fried to a light golden atop a bed of roasted fingerling red skins, glazed in garlic aioli, and placed next to a delightful cold cucumber salad. The fish flaked apart as expected, was cooked perfectly, and paired very nicely with its plated accompaniments. My wife insisted that I try the fettuccine and I'm glad I did, it too was amazing, homemade pasta makes all the difference. As far as our experience with the wait staff, well, we seriously got the star treatment. Our waitress was very attentive and not in the annoying way either. She was always there when we needed her and kept our champagne glasses full and our bread basket bottomless; what more can you ask for? Over all this was a fantastic experience, and I can't wait to return and delve further into the menu for further culinary exploration. If you think I'm being over the top, I think you haven't been to Fiamma Grille, this is truly as good as it gets.
Review Source:We went here last night for an anniversary celebration. Â We wanted to take advantage of their Monday night 1/2 off appetizers in the bar, have some beer/wine and just chill. Â The hostess knew nothing of the Monday night special and semi-rudely told us we'd have to talk to the bartender. (?) Â Luckily she was attentive and friendly. Â
We sat down and perused the app choices, which were very intriguing. Â We decided on the tenderloin salad, calamari with citrus sauce and the cheese platter. Â I would say the only thing I would order again would be the calamari.
Hubby took one bite of the tenderloin and made a face...asking what was that flavor? Â I had no idea what he was talking about so I tried it and couldn't pin point the flavor either, upon reading the menu we decided it was might have been the mint sauce and roasted red pepper garlic sauce combo. Â It just didn't fit with the dish. Â The problem with this salad wasn't the flavor it was the fact that it was drenched beyond belief in dressing(s) that weren't very good. Â Dripping! Â Hubby stopped eating it beyond his one piece of meat and I continued to nibble at it reluctantly.
The cheese plate was nothing special. Â I'm thinking that based on another review, it was lack luster due to the season....but hey couldn't they come up with something exciting to put on there except a huge dump of red grapes? Â The chutney and "gourmet crackers" left a lot to be desired. Â Luckily we were paying $7 vs. $14 for it.
The calamari was decent. Â Hot, cooked well with a flavorful sauce. Â I'm not a calamari fan so I only had a few strips (it's the strips, not the rings/bodies - which Hubby calls the "chicken strips of the sea"). Â He managed to finish the entire plate.
Bottom line is ... I'm not sure I would go back based on the food and the fact that it was extremely loud (we sat in the bar area). Â But I might give it another try, maybe only for the Monday night 1/2 price apps - to see if the food is better before going for a full on meal.
Our "meal" with 3 apps, 2 Sam Adams and a glass of Le Crema Chardonney was $41 + $12 tip (given based on full price of meal).
Wow...wow. Â Pleasantly surprised with this one. Â This might be the best Groupon win we've had.
Located on the park so you know parking isn't great. Â Tons of street parking within walking distance, but you just have to be patient and find it. Â Dimly lit, white tableclothed interior. Â Patrons were wearing everything from jeans to suits, but you'll likely feel better dressed up slightly.
Drinks were a dirty martini with blue cheese olives for me (nice and smooth) and Ken's usual, a beer. Â No drink specials, so mine was average around $9 and his was a bit pricey for beer, $5.75.
We couldn't get past the appetizer portion of the menu because everything looked just delicious. Â We thought it would be fun to do all apps and sides, so that's what we did!
First round was cheese tasting and raw oysters. Â The cheese plate was substantial for $14, with two kinds of cubes (one with whole black peppercorns - yum), three scoops of spreadable cream-cheese type (garlic, fresh herbs and black pepper), and a small round of warm brie. Â Served with fancier crackers, walnuts, grapes, blueberries and strawberries. Â The oysters... well, I love raw oysters. Â Pricey at $15 for six, but excellent quality. Â They had three types - Blue Point is the only name I remember (largest, briney, super fresh). Â The other two were smaller, less briney and had a snappy cucumber finish. Â I highly recommend trying them on Wednesday when they are half off!
Second round was sort of our main course. Â Ken got the Short Rib Quesadillas, another large, tasty app, with a nice amount of tender meat, $9. Â I had the Bouillabaisse which came chock full of clams, mussels, a salmon fillet, one shrimp and what I think was a big chunk of lobster. Â Just delicious, and a steal for around $13. Â For sides, we chose lobster risotto for $6 (actually came with pieces of lobster!), and the Brussels sprouts for $4.
OK, the sprouts deserve their own section in this review. Â If you've had Roast's Brussels sprouts... you gotta try these. Â They are so similar, but less greasy. Â I'm pretty sure this dish was both of our favorites of the six we tried.
Awesome bread basket. Â We practically licked our plates. Â Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Â We can't wait to go back!
Just read Abe's review. We are regulars at Fiamma and I believe we happened to be seated next to Abe's table (because I can't believe it has happened more than once). My husband and I were mortified for Abe's dinner guests when he, after polishing off one of the largest steaks I have seen, loudly protested when his bill came and refused to pay full price for his dinner. Â He proceeded to negotiate a price with management. We didn't stick around to see what he finally paid for his dinner.
Hey Abe, you are obviously not shy. If you are price sensitive and wish to know how much the special is...ask! Â "Special" does note mean "on sale."
We love the steaks, gnocchi, oysters.... Well, we love everything about this place. The owners make you feel welcomed and the staff is top notch (usually eat at the bar). We will continue to return to enjoy a wonderful dining experience.
We enjoyed a light dinner of four "small plates" w/ selected international wines. As guests, we did not pay or see the cost. The food was as good as any I've had anywhere - tasty w/ wonderfully blended flavors. The dessert, peach upside down cake w/ peach ice cream, Â was the only disappointment - ordinary, tasteless.
We had had lunch here before & had judged it expensive & ordinary, but our recent experience convinced us the chef is talented. If you can afford it, go & order the small plates. Ours included hot Norwegian smoked salmon w/ Â pepper crust on a bed of spinach w/ beets & fennel; sweet potato bisque w/ garnish of apple/walnut chutney & spiced mousse; New Zealand lambsicle w/ risotto cake & mixed berries; braised short rib ravioli. Superb!
We made a return visit on a Wednesday evening in September. Â The crowd was light but the bar was busy. Â We had made later than typical reservations so considering these two factors I was a bit apprehensive about how the food would be.
We were a party of four and two of us had the pasta while one had steak and the forth had fish. Â Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal and my pasta with beef, while not what I expected, was good and very filling.
In all cases the portions were very adequate and the food seemingly freshly prepared. Â The service was good and not intrusive and we enjoyed our meal, wine and coffee quite late and were never asked to hurry up or leave. Â There were a couple other tables that seemed to be enjoying the evening as well so they seemed very tolerant of patrons taking their time and enjoying the dining experience.
It was nice to see that Fiamma held up during our return visit nine months after our first.
Not a fan and won't be going back.
First and foremost: Â NOT ONE non-salad vegetarian option. Â
Second: Â The price to quality/quantity ratio is a bit off. Â I had the roasted beet salad, which was $10. Â It was good, but the greens portions was skimpy for $10. Â I also had the crab cake. Â That's no typo kids, that's crab cake (singular). Â It was served with a mustard sauce and topped with corn and diced tomato. Â It was ok, but I picked out a few pieces of shell/cartilage. Â There was a big basket of bread for the table to share, but unfortunately most of it was burned.
Third:  I was not impressed with anything having to do with their wine.  The list was long and full of the usual suspects and not a lot of obscure wines.  Very few wines are available by the glass.  Nothing jumped out at me so I asked the server about a particular wine.  He said "very good."  You do not need to be a sommelier to give me more to work with than "very good."  He also used "pinot gris" and "pinot grigio" interchangeably as did the wine list.  We ordered a $38 bottle of wine, and to our chagrin, it came in a SCREW TOP.  An investigation revealed this wine retails for roughly  $12.  When I asked my server about a wine it was described as "very good."  It was poured into the one type of glass they have for all of their wines.  I found it to be drinkable, but over-chilled. Â
Four: Â This place is a little too big for its britches. Â All prices and decor indicate that this place is trying to target the young, the hip, and the tasteful. I found the food to be unimaginative (there's nothing new and interesting about pecan encrusted salmon with mashed potatoes. Â The waitstaff was mediocre. Â
So, if anyone from Fiamma is reading this: Â You need to improve on all fronts to justify the prices you charge. Â I should not be spitting out crab shell, drinking white wine out of a red wine glass, and scraping burned bits off the bread for the prices you charge! Â Just because you paint the walls taupe and turn down the lights does not mean people won't notice these things. Â Oh, and ditch that horrible 70-esque light fixture over the round booth. Â It doesn't go with anything.
This was a birthday dinner with my wife and I. Â We've always wanted to try this place as we've been to Compari's a number of times. Â It seemed like a special occasion type place, and my wife had mentioned this as a place she'd like to go for her birthday. Â So, I did.
The hostess that greeted us was OK, directed us to our table, ...sat us down, and handed us our menus. Â Shortly after, our waitress (Gail) came to greet us and ask us for drinks, etc. Â We asked for a beer and wine list to look over first, and that was delivered promptly.
The place is a 'smart casual' / contemporary space that's comfortable and makes you feel "at ease" to just "settle in". Â The lighting is dim in a slightly romantic way, but not to the point where you're getting out a flashlight! :-)
Gail returned w/ the wine/beer -martini list, and began her review of the specials. Â Now, before I comment, Gail was very attentive and did a great job, very cordial and PATIENT with us because everything looked very good, and it was tough making a decision. Â But, .......her diatribe of the specials was a little too long! Â And, ...one of my biggest pet peeves happened, ....she told us the specials without telling us the prices, which to me is just plain stupidity (not on Gail's part, but the management). Â ALL of the menu items have prices except for "lobster" at market price, but ....if you're going to talk up the specials, please let us know what the expense will be! Â Not that you can't afford it if you ask, but, ..maybe you're vacilating between two things, and one is $12 more than the other.....you may want to go with the lesser item, and have an additional drink or glass of wine, ...yes?
Onward. Â Drinks came, .....very nice.....appetizer time:
Calamari. Â Delicious, with one exception, ...the contrast of textrure on the coating missed and was "soggy" ....but taste wise, was very good!
We ordered Colorado Lamb Chops, and I had the Fiamma mixed grill w/ cajun ny steak bites, ribeye strip and scallops. Â ENTREEs were fantastic!! Â Garlic mashed were very nice, and sauces and plate presentations were very appealing!
My wife couldn't figure out what she wanted between two dishes, and she had Gail pick it for her,....and she was very pleased with her selection. Â We also each had a glass of Belle Glos Pinot Noir w/ dinner which was very nice!
I found a portion of a "shell" shard in my scallop in which I informed Gail. Â I didn't 'complain' because I 'caught it/felt it' in my mouth, ...thankfully, or it would have cut me bad, but other than that, ...everything was very good.
The manager came over to confirm everything was ok, THEN Gail brought the owner over for some reason (the shell?), that was nice, but the shell was not mentioned.
We will go back for sure. Â A couple tiny things happened that weren't the greatest, but overall, food/drink, and the attentiveness of the staff, was very nice!
I love the filet and the Tiramisu is fantastic. Â Fiamma can get a little pricey though if you order a bottle of wine and appetizers. Â I agree with Gary L.'s review about the waitstaff and hostesses. Â It's a great place to eat a nice dinner, especially in the summer when you can sit outside. Â They do take reservations and I would recommend making one if you plan to sit outside on a weekend. Â Happy hour is from 5 to 7 with half off cocktails!
Review Source:Fiamma has a broad menu and generally executes the entrees well, from a nicely done Piedmontese filet to seared Ahi tuna and pasta dishes.  Drinks and wine list are very good and the ambience is casually elegant.  The waitstaff are spotty - some blather on about the (more expensive than most menu items) specials without telling you the price, while others are more plesantly attentive without the soliloquy.  The hostesses are a bit aloof; and could stand to greet patrons more warmly and punctuate the evening with a gracious 'thank you and good evening...'  -- touches that would make this place really shine by matching the high quality of the  food with  a higher quality staff.
