The Field is another tightly packed and dimly lit bar in Central Square. The outdoor patio is nice, but a garbage stench permeates the air on warmer evenings as the patio is adjacent to an alley with a dumpster. The bar itself gets very cramped. There is a pool table, but it's difficult to play especially when people are sitting on the nearby benches.
One thing you have to do at the Field is look at the weird assortment of ceiling fixtures. For instance there is a projector that is inexplicably turned toward the street as well as a row of lights that is placed above a ceiling fan. The latter creates a weird horror film vibe as the blades obscure the light making a slow strobe effect.
Regardless, the beer selection is good and the $6 price is typical for the area. Same thing goes for the other drinks. The staff are friendly and attentive. Not a great bar, but not at all bad.
