First and South

Really liked the food. The fries with black garlic aioli were amazing. The bloody Mary was very heavy on the alcohol and light on the tomato which was a bit of a bummer. The prices are on the steep side but it is to be expected for a place on long island.

A major down side is that service was sooooo slow and our food came out one plate at a time. We were a party of 12 so some people were done with food before other members even got their food

What a great surprise First & South was. We drove out to Greenport, only to find most places closed (including the restaurant we wanted to try). The owner of Blue Ruth Jewelry gave us some suggestions, including First & South. It looked like a neat place so we gave it a shot. It was a weekday night and we were the only people there. The menu was small, but our meals were so tasty. The farro and barley dish is one of the best dishes we have ever had. A nice place for a mellow meal, with great food and atmosphere.

I haven't been here since last August, but I'm hoping this gets out there into the universe and they make a change for the better this summer because it could make or break them. Seriously. Don't eff this up, First and South! Greenport needs you! I want to preface this by saying that this place has tremendous potential. It's beautiful, the menu LOOKS great, and Greenport needs trendy but delicious food.

And yet.

I've been on a few occasions--a few times for drinks, and twice for dinner. The fries are good, but ridiculously over priced. Seriously. $10 for FRENCH FRIES? I don't need to make a snarky comment here because that friggin' speaks for itself. A friend of mine and I also tried the fried duck tongues, which would have been awesome if they weren't over cooked. The burgers, however, are quite good. BUT THEY SHOULD COME WITH FRIES. :(

My issue with the drinks here is that they are so inconsistent! My friends and I loved the sangria here, but one night we came back to get a pitcher and it was almost undrinkable it was so poorly made. The bartenders need to be on the same page about how they make drinks, especially if they are featured items on the menu.

I want to like you. I really do. But I can't until you get your shit together.
