Great guacamole, great steak & chicken tacos. How can you argue w/ $2.50 tacos in gold coast? When I worked downtown this was one of my go--to lunch spots.

I just wanted to say that I'm addicted and I eat here at least once a week again. The service has redeemed itself and more over the past few months.  Thanks for consistently making delicious food.  Looking forward to my weekly Flaco's coma.

    Meh-xican food.

I love the ambiance of the place.  Great care has been taken in the decorations.  It feels like a cool place to eat.

But the food is just so-so.  I ordered a steak burrito "con todo."  It was fine, but relatively dry.  I blasted every bite with salsa to no avail.

I also had a margarita.  I got an appropriately tasty brain freeze.

I want to like Flaco's Tacos.  It looks cool and the service was fast and friendly.  I just wish it tasted better.

Excellent tacos and quesadillas!  Great find.  Super friendly and quick!  Easy street parking and best of all the price is right!

I like this place a little more each time I go and to be honest Im always excited when I remember its an option. Its one of those places that I first started going to because it was easy. I grew a little bored with it and ten forgot about it.
I still always seem to forget about it when Im thinking of food to pick up, but when I do I get excited like 'oh yea! theres that place'
Nothing there ha ever been blow me away awesome, but it is good and if your in the right mood its perfect.
The price is a little high in my opinion, compared to the volume of food you can get from other fast food mexican places, but there is a slightly more refined taste to it. The crunchy shells in my opinion are particularly good.
With all places like this, I always find the option of rice milk to be a little gross, Even though I never get it, just looking at it there. However they do have coke in a bottle, which is fun and for some reason always taste better.
Veggie tacos are very good, so is the burrito, but not as good as the tacos, again its the shell that sells it.
If you spread out your visits enough, this place is great.

I'm not sure what happened to the quality of food at this Flaco's. I used to love it when they first opened, but now, it's consistently bad. Their Friday special Shrimp Taco used to be soooo yummy, but the last 2 times I ordered it, I had to throw it away without eating it. And their Tamales used to be great...but you can tell someone different is making them now, and the quality isn't as good. They do have 2 things going for them, which won them 2 stars. First, their desserts are amazingly good and reasonably priced...try the Red Velvet Cupcake (you can thank me later). Second, if you're coming home from a night of drinking and are craving some melted cheese and grease....you can't go wrong with their Cheese Quesadilla. It's not a very good Quesadilla, but it's darn fine melted cheese and grease.

    2 words: Pica-dillo.

I was in Chicago for business and was walking around the Printer's Row area and I walked by this place and decided to give it a try. Now, not being from Chicago, I really had no idea of what to expect of their Mexican food, but I was pleasantly surprised by what I had and would recommend it to anyone for a quick, cheap lunch in the city.

El Pastor was good but the best bet here would be the Picadillo. Meat and potatoes with such a nice flavor. I ordered 1 of each but then followed that up with 2 more Picadillo's soon after.

Again, being from Jersey, we have some really good authentic Mexican places (although NOTHING compares to San Antonio for that) so while your expectations might not be that high for such a place, you will be pleasantly surprised if you give it a try.

I kind of expected more from Flaco's Tacos. It had decent reviews on Yelp, and I was within walking distance, so I figured why not get some Mexican cuisine? After all, I am from California, so I love me some taqueria. Flaco's Tacos is a nice little Mexican joint right in South Loop. Once you enter this restaurant, you are welcomed with a clean spot with plenty of seating for all. When I was there, there were probably only about 2-3 occupied tables, so you don't need to worry about seating, especially at night. Here at Flaco's, you can get the standard Mexican fixings: burritos, tacos, sandwiches, tamales, and of course you can opt for their own version of the burrito bowl (taco salad).

Order up at the counter, and in a matter of minutes, your food is brought to your table. As far as prices go, this place is pretty standard in comparison to a taqueria or Chiptole. The difference is that this place isn't quite authentic, which is also quite disappointing. With the pictures that I saw, I thought that this place would have amazingly tasty food, but in the end, it was just a little mediocre and bland. I decided to order the arrachera (grilled skirt steak) burrito, while my colleague opted for the taco salad. The burrito showed up to my table looking pretty good. It was a hefty portion, which is always nice, so I was pretty stoked to dive right in. Unfortunately the hype didn't live up to my expectations. The steak just tasted kind of on the blander side, and there wasn't Mexican rice inside! Flaco's burrito was loaded with: Chihuahua cheese, fresh cilantro, onion & sour cream on flour tortillas. Without the extra carb inside, it just tasted a little empty inside. With the taco salad, there was a whole lot of salad in there, but not much else. Even when compared to Chipotle's burrito bowl, which is the furthest you can get from authentic, is 10x better than Flaco's taco salad. It just looked like 85% lettuce, and sprinkled with some meat and salsa on top. For $7, I would probably stray away from this one unless you really, really want to eat light.

Flaco's Tacos isn't a horrible place to eat. The prices are reasonable, and the food is clean, but there just feels like there is a missing element in all of their dishes. From a pretty bare taco salad, to a semi-filling burrito, Flaco's is okay, but not great. Probably not the spot to hit if you want that authentic Mexican cuisine.

Flacos is a solid taco shop. They've got great daily specials, interesting taco options, decent margaritas and nice atmosphere.  This one is more spacious than the one in River North.

Regarding the tacos, I believe the pastor is my favorite.  Juicy with the right amount of spice.  The picadillo is great if you are looking for a little potato in your taco.  Their guacamole and horchata are both delicious, although the chips are a little weird.

This is a good place to end up if you've been strolling through the loop all day, or visiting some sights in the South Loop, Printers Row, or the Museum Campus.  It's not the best taco in Chicago, but it's gonna be satisfying and won't hurt your pocketbook too much.

Gross. And not Mexican at all. The burrito I had was soggy and tasteless. Go to Chipotle instead (not that it's Mexican either, but at least it's good fresh food).

4/5 times I've had a really excellent meal here: some superb tacos or tamales and, naturally, a fun atmosphere. The fifth time I tried one of their tortas (sandwiches) and it was just not that good. Wasn't bad, per se, but I'd recommend anything else on the menu before it. Go for a slice of flan after, as well, and you'll be a happy camper.

First of all, this is a take-out place.  I was somewhat mislead by Yelp and came in thinking this establishment is a classic sit-down restaurant.  Despite this shortcoming, which is perhaps mostly my fault for not reading the reviews a bit more closely, I had a solid evening here dining solo.  I ordered a veggie burrito which was good: full of veggies black beans and cheese with plenty of hot sauce nearby.  Hard for me to describe, but somehow it just didn't have the kick that I was looking for.  Don't get me wrong, it's good food, but it isn't great food.  Nevertheless, given the relative lack of tex mex in the immediate area, this place is a solid and I'm sure the locals appreciate it.

Flaco's is definitely one of the better tex-mex style mexican restaurants in the city.  Outside of Pilsen, I tend to avoid "Mexican restaurants" but Flaco's is actually pretty good.  Not only do they have fast delivery, their food seems to be more authentic and also their daily specials are something to look forward to.  As you will see from the food that is featured below, the quesadillas are something special. Not many restaurants make good quesadillas, and Flaco's makes them GREAT.  Just about everything on the menu is customizable so you can make it just the way you like it!

I ate a very cheap meal here. I had two tacos and two tamales for about 10 dollars. That's not bad for a meal in the South Loop, but it wasn't a very good meal. My al pastor pork tacos were just warm, not hot, and my pork tamales were dry. Luckily, they had some salsa I could pour over my food. The chips and pico de gallo weren't bad, but will I be going back here again? Definitely not. And I live a block away.

This is yet another one of those lame South Loop restaurants that caters more to the college student crowd, than to anyone with a desire for something remotely sophisticated.

If you want a good Mexican meal, you have to travel a little. There are plenty of good Mexican places in this city, just not any in the South Loop. If you just want a filling meal on the cheap, this will do. But in that case, I suggest just cooking for yourself at home.

I walked by this place earlier in the week - it was packed so I decided to give it a try. I went early - 5:30ish and it was packed!

Not a fancy place. You order at a counter, get a number and they bring you your food. Ordered three tacos - picadillo, pork and ancho chicken. All very flavorful and fresh.

Staff was friendly. It's a nice place to grab a quick bite.

The food was good/average, they made me vegan stuff which made me happy.  The frozen margaritas were OK, I likely won't get them again.  An ingredient in them kind of stung my tongue, if that makes any sense.  The OREO flavored vegan cupcake was also pretty good, but the cake part could have been a little more moist.  Overall, I found Flaco's to be average, I would go again.

Awesome deserts for a mexican place!  Food is solid but nothing special.  Good size portions but the meats could use more flavor.  The food is good but a little bland.  I honestly think Chipotle has more flavorful meats.  Seems like quality ingredients (not very fatty meats), etc.  Overall worth a visit and I'm eat there again.

A word of advice:  Always check your order before you leave.  Their staff is very young and always messes up my order.

Very good, clean, cheap.  Atmosphere and service is great, or you can order pickup or delivery online.  Lifesaver in this neighborhood.

I stopped by for a very late lunch yesterday, but really wasn't impressed. I ordered three tacos: the steak, al pastor, and pescado. The steak and al pastor were both very skimpy on the meat (maybe a tablespoon each). The fish was a good sized piece. Flavor-wise, nothing did it for me. The fish was overwhelmed with heat, but the steak and al pastor had none. The tortillas were dry and chewy. The horchata was the highlight of the meal.

I was the only customer there when I visited, so perhaps the quality is better when they're turning over more orders at lunch and dinner. It looks like they have some good daily specials, so I might be giving them another try.

Flaco's Tacos saved my life...kind of. This summer we had to evacuate Lollapalooza for 2 hours while a storm passed and I didn't want to end up stuffed in some random space with hundreds of other festival-goers in tutus. Luckily one of my favorite spots for inexpensive margaritas was within walking distance. We ate, drank, made new friends and stayed dry.

I love $3 Margarita Mondays, but if you aren't agressive you'll end up eating and drinking standing up. Sharpen your table-stalking skills before you come. They also have $3 Sangria Tuesdays (which is fun to follow up with karaoke at Bar Louie down the street). If you join their mailing list you'll hear about other fun Flaco's happenings like $1 tamale day or $1 taco day. The food isn't bad, but I never wake up from my sleep craving a Flaco's fish taco.

There's plenty of street parking up & down Dearborn, a bus stop just out front and a Red Line stop just blocks away. Scour your couch cushions for change, get yourself there and have a margarita. Bonus points if you can grab a seat outside in the summer

The people working here looks like upset , and Margaritas on Monday's is not good anymore, seems like they changed for a cheaper tequila.

Since I work in the South Loop, I've been going to Flaco's since it opened.  Normally, I'm a big fan--but the last couple of times I've eaten at FT, I've been disappointed.

Last night for example, I ordered take-out: steak tacos, veggie tacos, chips/salsa, and an order of rice and beans.  The tacos were nothing like they used to be just a few months ago.  They were dry and tasteless.

The veggie tacos consisted of lots of lettuce and not enough flavorful things like peppers, grilled onions, cilantro, or beans.  The steak tacos were just bad.  Bland and way too chewy.

The chips were nothing but oil (and no salt!)

Flaco's used to be the best place in the area to get a great (cheap) lunch or dinner -- What happened?

    I am a fan!
I went there on Saturday for Margarita's and tacos. I ordered a mango and superfruit margarita and it was very strong and very good.

I had 3 tacos (fish, steak, and chicken). I loved everything except for the chicken.. it wasn't horrible but I could have done without it.. because it was pretty dry. The sauces that they give you have a huge kick and so if you like spice it's the place for you!
I will definitely be back again very soon.

    Tacos are better than average.

Tamale meat doesn't taste like much, but the maïs was so delicious that it didn't matter.

They also randomly happen to make good cupcakes.

this place is fun cuz it's like musical chairs. I went around 7 on a Wednesday ($3 Margaritas day) so it was a packed house!  You basically have to stalk people to get a chair or table. And even though, you might have 2 butts in one chair.
It's a fun, tiny tiny place.  The food is ok, fairly priced.  Nothing to go out of your way for, but cheap drinks and Mexican food, it's a safe bet.

Great for Margarita Mondays.  Singlehandedly gets me through the first day of the work week.

We usually get chips and guacamole and a few margs.  DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT ask for salt in your margarita.  I made that mistake here, and it was like drinking ocean water.  Seriously disgusting.  Other than that, they're pretty tasty and very strong.

One other thing to note: at most Mexican places, you order chips and guac and run out of guacamole way before you run out of chips.  Here, it's the complete opposite!  They really load you up with the guac and I don't hate it.

Mexican is probably my fav food. Flaco's was a cheap, decent Mexican meal. They serve tamales, which were pretty authentic and had pork, chicken or veg options. (Sometimes it's tough to find a tamale sans pork.) I had the fish taco, chicken taco and chicken tamale plus a frozen margarita for only $13! The margarita was pretty strong and better than I expected for a cheap taco shop. The tacos are served on corn tortillas (as all tacos should be!). I do wish the salsa was a bit spicier, but did like the ketchup-bottle-type dispensers used for the salsa.

They have a few small tables outsides, but the indoor eating area is cute with vintage touches. This place is perfect for a quick bite or meal with one or two friends. It's a bit too small for a larger group.

    Went here yesterday -

Monday's they have $3 margaritas and we picked up two meals for $18. The food was pretty good and the place is cheap!

The flautas were decents. I really enjoyed the taco and tomale.

Flaco's is a small, folksy, not-slick neighborhood taqueria in Printer's Row.  I was delighted to find it open until midnight the other night, after other area places had already shut for the night.  I got the Flaco combo of one taco and one tamale (I could have just as easily ordered two tamales or two tacos on the same combo deal).  My steak taco was good, wrapped in a double layer of wheat tortillas with onion and cilantro.  Two salsas, one red, the other green, in squeeze bottles, added spice to the taco.  My tamal Oaxaqueno was a good shredded chicken taco in a white corn masa, wrapped, surprisingly, in a banana leaf, and the whole thing tightly wrapped in aluminum foil.  Lime wedges were provided for squeezing over the entrees, which lent a crisp freshness.  The refrito beans on the side were flavorful and tasty, and possibly more healthy than usual.  The menu describes the refritos as being prepared in a vegetarian-friendly method, so I expect the traditional lard was subbed out for vegetable shortening.  I drank a bottle of cerveza Negro Modelo with a lime wedge.  And all was good with the world.

You order at the counter, receive your beer and go to your table, where a server delivers the rest of your meal.  It all was lightning fast, possibly due to the late hour with only a few of us diners present.  I think my meal arrived within three minutes of sitting down!

The combo was $6.95, the beer $3.95.  Nice!

Flaco's has a catering business, as well as a sit down restaurant, with tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tamales, guacamole and so on.

    {This is my 100th review!  Whoohooo!}

A friend recommended I try Flacos Tacos because the tacos are very reasonable ($2.45 each) and filling.

I don't like a lot of "dough" on anything (sandwiches, pizza, etc.) and I found the tacos were made with 2 corn tortillas, which was too much for me.

The sauces they give you are very spicy. The meat (I had one steak and one chicken) was okay, and the guacamole was about $1 extra. I'm grateful I got the guacamole and asked for limes to add some flavor.

I wouldn't make a special stop here (or return if it wasn't a necessity) and honestly, Chipotle is better.

I popped in here for a quick bite to eat one night...

The Al Pastor taco was actually pretty decent, it had a nice kick and some pretty decent flavor. The Chicken taco was nothing to write home about. The guacamole was "meh"....and I love most all guacamole so it's not very often that I diss it.

On to the SUPER disappointing part of the meal for me...my first margarita was okay but my second one had salt IN it...not just on the rim. When I took a huge drink from it, I felt like there was a whole bottle of salt in there. WTF! I asked for a new one and it was still salty (not as salty but still way too salty for a margarita). Seriously guys, it tastes like shit.

Unless you're starving or drunk I'd probably pass on Flaco's Tacos.

I've eaten at this place twice.  I was shopping around the Printers Row area and was looking for a decent place to eat that was still open late at night. I noticed the place was packed, and figured it was a good place to try.

I ordered a simple steak taco and the meat was dry and quite bland.  I ended up eating all of it because I was starving.

I decided to give it another try a month later, because I couldn't figure out why this place was packed every time I walked past here.  I ordered the fish taco this time, and it was a big disappointment.

First off, the service was slow.  I'm not sure why because it's not like it was "cook" to order.  I'm sure it was a matter of thawing the fish out of the fridge and microwaving it because that's what it tasted like.  The fish was very dry and the edges were crispy.  Crispy to the point where it wasn't even edible.  Thus, I ended up eating what's left of my fish taco---a couple of diced tomatoes wrapped in a flour tortilla.

    Sorry, Flacos.  I tried............

    Pride goes before destruction, indeed.
Flaco's, stop raising your prices and lowering your quality.
Maybe your food is still refreshing for someone who venture into your cute, unobtrusive door on Printers Row for the first time. But, from an old friend, it is truly difficult to reconcile who you've become with the humble, food-gem you were.

I have been a regular around Printers Row lately, so I have been trying the surrounding restaurants one by one.  The other night was Flaco's Tacos turn.

Being a local in RoPa, I'm always surrounded by good, authentic Mexican restaurants.  Cheap, too, nonetheless.  So, the bar was set pretty high.

Flaco's Tacos is definitely an OK place.  But that's what to expect from a chain, I guess.

I ordered 3 tacos: steak, al pastor and the fish.  From the 3, surprisingly I liked the fish the best.  But coming from Cali, nothing beats Cali's fish tacos.  Sorry guys.  Both the steak and the al pastor were pretty bland.  Al pastor is my favorite of all ~ so, for me to want to go back to a Mexican restaurant, I have to be crazy about their al pastor.

I almost always ordered horchata with my Mexican meal.  Flaco's horchata was again, OK.  I have definitely tried a richer, more authentic horchatas else where.

I noticed people were ordering frozen margaritas, and they have a special Monday for margaritas.  But heck.  I ain't 21 anymore and don't normally drink on Monday nights on a "work night"!  Besides, I do prefer my margarita on the rock.  Stir or shaken~ I do not care.

Fish tacos!! Get the fish tacos!

So I've discovered that dine-in vs. delivery makes allllllllllll the difference with this place. It's cold by the time it comes to my office 2 blocks away, but if we go out for margaritas and tacos after work, it's perfect!

Usually it's not too crowded- I've hit the occasional busy period, but only had to wait a few minutes for a table.
