Pretty decent if you want a good burger or sandwich and they also have a pretty decent chicken piccata. They also make their own salsa, which is fantastic, and they hand fry you a fresh bowl of tortilla chips, which are really great. It's decent diner/grille fare. Great for kids and a big eclectic menu.
Review Source:Waitress  took our drink orders, brought beers timely enough, but we waited over 15 minutes to give our orders. Mistake- we ordered food. The appetizers : mozzarella sticks are definitely the frozen store brand, nothing better. The potato skins were the smallest I have ever seen- made from those quail egg size potatoes. The meat loaf was the size of a deck of cards and just about as tasty, albeit the gallon of gravy almost disguised that and kept the salty vegetables and instant mashed potatoes looking pretty good by comparison. Fish and chips= frozen battered fish fried and skinny french fries- and not even a sprig of parsley or lemon slice on the plate. The JayJay burger, on the other hand, was done correctly and well presented. If you must stop for a beer and conversation, get a burger but don't try the sides, appetizers, or other dishes... It was not crowded mid afternoon, but the waitress  confided in us that she was bored. She is untrained and unclear on the concept of  good food service
Review Source:The food is much better than it used to be and the cooks did a great job as far as timing so everything was hot,, I frickin hate cold fries. Â It did seem that one of the waitress had all the customers because we had empty seating all around us.... I liked that... and our waitress could take better care of us, But with a restaurant background, That was not normal and i figure she's probably the manager and is kinda greedy..... Â thats why only three stars, I felt bad for the crowded section.... A little.
Review Source:I love Flamez. Haven't had a bad meal yet. Been there many, many, many times. Always fresh and tasty. My one and only complaint is the hours of business are not long enough for a sports bar that also servers an awesome breakfast too late in the morning for this working girl. Keep up the good food and service Flamez!!!
Review Source:I had a steak sandwich that was really good. Tender, cooked well with good seasoning. There might have been a bit too much salt, but I think that was from the grilled onions. My Server was Terrie, who very nice and helpful, nice smile.
Decent but limited beer selection on tap. Would like to see more local brews. Locally owned place, comfy seating, bar if you prefer. Several widescreen tvs with sports. Homemade Carrot cake.
My wife and I have been here 3 times now. We enjoy breakfast on Sundays right after church. The last 2 times we have had the same server (Jackie) she always greets us with a smile and is very attentive to our needs. This last time, our food showed up so quick, I swear I had not taken the fourth sip of my coffee.
I had the bacon, avocado omelet. I measure these by how much stuff you get. This had plenty of both, served nice and hot, and amazingly (Jackie) remembered that I like the green tabasco. My wife had the Eggs Benedict and was pretty sure the Hollandaise was powdered.
Not bad $$ but would like to se more breakfast specials of the day.
The rest of the servers were also on top of the water and coffee, without asking.
We are definitely going to make this a regular thing after church.
Quick, delicious, laid-back place to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner with the kids. We dine here atleast once a week with our two year old and have a great experience everytime. The waitstaff is very friendly, the food orders come quick, the food is good, and the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend this restauraunt.
Review Source:Well we bought the groupon, and after reading some of the bad reviews I was a bit skeptical, but let me assure you, I don't know what planet those people live on, they were WAY wrong!
We came in and the owner's wife seated us personally, and answered all our questions and was extremely accomodating. The menu was HUGE, and it took us quite a while to decide.
I finally settle on something I have always wanted to try, a bacon cheeseburger with grilled cheese sandwiches for buns! It was SOOOO awesome and delicious, and I posted a pic here. It was huge and I couldn't even finish the fries that came with it.
My wife had creamy pesto pasta with parmesean chicken, and she loved it. Also the lemon cake for dessert she said was heavenly. The prices were slightly higher than I'd prefer, but not too much so. The service and food quality warranted 5 stars.
I bought the groupon - and we went in for dinner last night. Â What a disappointment. Â I ordered the lemon chicken, which was about as dry and rubbery as possible, and had it with steamed veggies. Â You would touch the veggies and they would just crumble into a pile of mush. Â Icky.
The BF had the Californian sandwhich, which was reheated lunch meat on bread and blah. Â He said the fries were OK, but weren't really warm, and by the end were soggy and the hotwings, were mushy as if they had been thawed before frying. Â (Glad I didn't eat them, he's not feeling so hot today after having dinner last night)
Beers are on the expensive side, they are out of half the things on the menu, and the service is about as warm as the french fries. Â
Even with the groupon we still owed $15 - so that would have been a $45 meal. Â So not worth it. Â Do yourself a favor and if near there, walk into G&G and get some of their ready made items, you will be out less $, and it will taste better. Â
It's a great idea, but the food doesn't warrant a return visit.
Service was the best part. Wish we experienced good food as some of the other reviewers have. I don't know how the chef made the chicken nuggets taste...the way they did. Totally supported my daughter when she said they taste funny and wanted to stop eating them. Â My husband had to stop eating his cesar salad due to the chicken on it also tasting terrible, I got fish and chips and only 2 small fish strips at that. Â They were just okay - pretty greasy. Â Here we are 2 hours later and our stomachs are making terrible sounds. Â Hope it all stays down. Â We won't go back.
Review Source:Friendly staff, great food (love the Jordan burger), good salads and breakfast
is excellent. Â I love going to this local, family owned and operated restaurant.
You are acknowledged as soon as you walk in and when you leave. Â The
restaurant has a good feel (much better than when it was J. Rosen's). Â The staff
is attentive and quick to take your order, I love going to this place.
I was surprised at the pleasing ambiance of the place upon walking in. Â But after sitting there longer then 15 minutes, the place didn't seem as nice anymore, dare I say it began to look much less "classy" by the time we left. Â
Ordering the food didn't take too long, that is to say, we didn't have to wait long. Â The food arrived promptly and without any errors in the order. Â
I ordered the Jay Jay Burger, with mushrooms and sauteed onions. Â It was enjoyable, but very large, greasy and messy. Â But hey, it's a burger.
The Fries on the side were not great. Â Nice texture and just the right amount of crispiness, but very plain. Â So plain in fact that they were hard to enjoy at all. Â
The service/staff there were affable (great word, had to look up though =J) but not entirely welcoming. Â I'm beginning to think the one I paid for the food with was the son of the owner's, based upon the other reviews here on yelp. Â He didn't seem too pleased to be working there. Â Which can be a little unsettling to a good environment.
I rate it on the higher end of 2 stars, because while the burger was only OK, the fries not great, the service was still good. Â The kind of food on the menu just wasn't really my cup of tea. Â I won't be returning here until I hear of a friend's experience with the food as being great. Â If Flamez decides to bring back their pizza on a regular basis, I will have to consider coming back, Â I have heard good things about their pizza.
I settled on four stars, this is why-
Family friendly- Five Stars
Service was excellent and they went out of their way to help us get settled with two small kids. This is not a "couples" spot for dinner. For families it is right on.
Menu- Five stars
They have everything you could want and they serve breakfast ALL Day! I had an omelet which was good, my wife had a killer French Dip, and the fries were hot and not too greasy. The kids options were great.
Beer selection- Two stars
They had about six beers on tap but they were all your standard offerings, nothing special.
Did I mention they serve breakfast all day? Love it!
We seriously love this place. Â Id say most of the food is slightly above average...but I have never had a bad burger there. Â Burgers is why we go to this place! Â We started going when I was pregnant with my second son. Â The owners have always been so nice, and always remember us, and stop to chat and ask how the kids are. Â Its exactly what we're looking for in a locally owned restaurant. Â Thanks Flamez..we love ya! Â oh..and we nicknamed it FLA- MEZ...it just sounds cooler.
Review Source:Wait staff was pleasant and food arrived promptly. Â A sandwich, salad and beer was $14, which isn't bad.
The decor is wince-inducing, with cheesy 'FLAMEZ' logos on everything, including the servers. Â Cheap black tees do not inspire much confidence. This place needs some character, stat. Â And please ditch the halogen (or whatever they are) lights - they made the place feel like a prison cafeteria with their harsh blue-white glare. The one plus I'll give the ambiance is their use of booths. Â It's not a total table-fest with everyone looking at everyone else. Â
My sandwich was very dry and fell apart. Â It was also pretty short on turkey, to the point that I was left digging through sandwich debris looking for something to pick at other than dry bread. Asked for potato salad and got shoestring fries, not my favorite. Â Was never offered nor served water. Â My side salad came straight out of the fridge and had some iffy rye croutons.
The two servers in my area looked quite busy, while two guys (owners?) hung out by where the food is dispensed and chatted with each other. Â
I'd be willing to give the place one more chance, but I won't be wasting my time with that bone-dry club again.
I personally Love this place, I feel they've fused a new age diner and a full local bar perfectly. You can find items on their menu that are edgy and unique not found on the average menu, like Greek wraps, brick oven pizza etc.
Why I truly Love this place is for the best PATTY MELT I've had in the last 10 years hands down just cooked to perfection. They also have a full selection of great beer on draft. Clean environment / T.V.s for sports etc. also known for their diner burgers. enjoy
p.s. If you like patty melts this is the place !!!
I brought my wife and both my kids to this restaurant the other night after taking the kids to play in G&G park right next door. I have to admit, I was fairly impressed when I walked in. There was a large bar with a huge assortment of liquor. The restaurant was decorated nicely and looked very clean. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. We had a server that after asking what she liked on the menu, she said that the French Dip was amazing. Then she said for fun she likes to add jack cheese and mushrooms. I said hook me up. THEY SHOULD ADD IT TO THE MENU and name it after the server! It's not that creative, but it really was great. My wife and both my kids liked their meal as well. The food was delicious, the service was great and the prices were right on. It's better than other local chain restaurants and it's locally owned so spend your money here rather than at a chain!
Review Source:Not a bad bar and grill. The only downfall I had of the place was their pricing, but then again it is a bar and grill in Petaluma... what else do you expect?
Regardless service was really good like so good the waitress gave me four different types of hot sauce bottle when I just asked for tabasco. Very sweet and considerate.
Foods were fulfilling, but then again they give you a lot. And for drinks on tap, they had a good variety of selections. As long as they had a hef on tap then I was satisfied.
As for the environment it was very nice and cozy. I felt it had a good combo of a bar and restaurant look. It wasn't dirty or smelled funny so it was good.
Besides that good place, just pricing could be better.
My wife and I were passing through town with our 3 daughters.  We stumbled across Flamez while trying to avoid the normal fast food thing.  Well, we were pleasantly surprised.  The food was better than I had expected, and plenty to take home for the traditional "midnight snack".  The food was fresh.  The owners were very hospitable to me and  my family.  They took their time when we were slow to order, the food came HOT. Â
I would highly recommend this restaurant.  It has a great family atmosphere, the food prices won't kill you, the food is great, and the owners were really cool. They seemed genuinely interested in how we enjoyed our first experience there.
As far as the person that said "it wasn't my cup of tea":  But was the food GOOD????  Were they courteous???  If you don't like nice looking staff, well kept and polite staff, clean facility, clean restaurants, that's on you.  Rate the place on what it's supposed to be rated on, food, service, etc.  Â
See you at the tea house.
Next time through Petaluma I will be stopping there for a KILLER burger.
Went here when it was Flippers and didn't realize they had changed owners or the name. Â Upon walking in, I really couldn't tell that too much had changed with the decor. Â Tried the other "Flippers" that used to be JM Rosens down by the river and felt the quality of the food/service/decor/cleanliness suffered, so we haven't been back there. Â Glad we went back here. Â That being said:
Went on a Friday night around 6pm. Â So far, this has been a great family place and my kids loved it. Â Crayons with a pre-printed kids menu that has games and puzzles. Â The kid's menu has great prices and a nice selection, from chicken strips and fries, to pasta with grilled chicken on top, grilled cheese, etc. Â It's in the $4 to $7 range if I recall correctly, and big portions too.
We ordered deep fried calamari for an appetizer and it was excellent, nice spices to the batter. Â My cheeseburger was AWESOME. Â Excellent hamburgers here and they LOAD you on those shoestring fries...I am talking 3x what you would get at a regular place. Â Between me and two kids orders, we ended up taking home a styrofoam box FULL of french fries! Â Descent draft beer selection, Blue Moon ($4-$5 for a 16 oz), Wiedemann's, I agree with another poster, I would love to see a good dark in there like Guinness. Â There were a few people at the bar watching a game. Â Very low key, quiet, so far no rowdy types or drunken jerks disturbing your dinner. Â There were about 6 groups of 4+ people eating and we got checked on by two different waitpersons several times, as well as the bartender coming over to make sure my wife's margarita was to her liking....Overall a good experience, two adults, three kids for dinner with two drinks from the bar, tab came out to around $50...and we took some home. Â I like the burgers so much I don't know when I will try something else!
I want to like Flamez, I really do. It is so much better than Flippers (the former occupant) that I am tempted to upgrade their rating but with so many good restaurants in town, their faults are glaring. We have tried Flamez three times before passing judgement, but we won't return.
Let's start with the bright spot, their service. The wait staff are attentive and have good personalities although young and inexperienced. Still, its bar food so not a lot of knowledge is needed.
The salads have been a big disappointment. The Cobb salad showed little imagination and tasted like something from a fast food restaurant. One problem is the serving temperature is too cold; it literally hurt my teeth to chew the lettuce. We tried again our next visit with a dinner salad but had much the same experience - cold and bland.
The dinners were not awful but failed to distinguish themselves. The baby back ribs were served hot and the sauce was acceptable although the side of sauté vegetables seemed like an unnatural pairing.  The broiled chicken was a bit dry and tough; the Cheeseburger so juicy that it fell apart and the BBQ beef brisket sandwich was the most interesting dish we tried although it missed the taste of a good rub.
The menu item that has been consistently above average are the Buffalo Wings. They are tasty, with a sauce that provides some bite; if only they were served with bleu cheese instead of ranch!
The price is low enough that one could eat here several times per week, although why one would want to is a mystery to me.
Great service. Great burgers. That's the short story.
I live around the corner from this place. I've been waiting for it to open for about 3 months now. It was worth the wait. Both times I've been here I've parked myself on a bar stool (of which there are only 6) and the bar staff has been super friendly and speedy with their service. In fact, tonight, I came in with the intent of watching the Warriors v Lakers game (3/15/10; Lakers 124 - Warriors 121) and not only did I get to see a great game, but it was so slow that the bartender Holly came and parked herself on the bar stool next to me and we just chatted throughout the game for about half an hour. In short, service with a smile.
I'm told they're going to be having ridiculously inexpensive happy hour deals starting next week from 3-6pm. And, unlike Julian's (across the parking lot), this place has a full bar; meaning, I can get my shot of Jack and my beer. Nice.
The owner, Andy, assures me he's getting the NBA channel hooked up before the playoffs so nobody will miss any important NBA playoff games. Also, Holly, one of the bartenders - assures me she's got some fun ideas planned for the patio area for when the weather gets nicer.
I anticipate I'll be updating this review to 5 stars in the near future. At this point I only gave Flamez four stars because I haven't tried enough stuff on the menu. As discussed above, the one burger I had was excellent! Unlike Julian's burgers, the bun didn't fall apart. I had the Ultimate Burger (mushrooms n bacon n stuff). Pretty damn tasty. The fries were a little weak though (meaning, kinda stiff and lukewarm by the time they reached me) - possibly contributing to the 4-star rating. Also, I haven't noticed a dark beer on tap. No Guinness. That would help cement a 5-star rating. Just sayin.
For what it's worth, in two visits, I already know the names of three bartenders and the owner. I like going to a place where I know their names and they know mine. Reminds me of living in places with more of a neighborhood feel, e.g., northwest Oakland, or anywhere in Chicago. Time will tell if this place turns into a real neighborhood watering hole.
I remain hopeful. This place has potential.
