I've always been a fan of Fody's for late night drinks but my experience last night was one of the worst dining out experiences that I have ever had. My two friends and I arrived at Fody's around 7pm to grab some dinner and drinks. We had been going to Fody's for years and were excited to revisit one our favorite downtown places. It was pretty busy when we arrived but the hostess sat us at some chairs located by the fireplace. She said it would be a few minutes for the waiter to get us our drink order and brought us bread while we waited. We were chatting and looking over the menu and getting antsy at waiting so long. We were trying to flag down a waiter but no one was coming over. After 15 minutes we grabbed the hostess and asked if someone was coming over to take our order. She assured us that she would send someone right over so we sat back down. Another 10 minutes passes and she comes over and offers us a table instead of the chairs we were sitting in so we moved over. A few minutes later we saw a waiter coming around to the other tables so we thought that we were in the clear now. We were wrong. The waiter looked at our table and then walked away. At that point we grabbed our stuff and headed out. We saw other tables getting service all around us and whenever we tried to get a waiters attention we were completely ignored. We left feeling very upset with Fody's and went to another downtown restaurant and were served right away. We don't plan on coming back to Fody's anytime in the near feature. Your staff was rude and did not care about their customers.
Review Source:Went to a fundraiser there tonight. Had dinner. It took the waiter 25 minutes to come to the table. He took our order and told us there was no bread cause the kitchen was to busy but 3 tables that came in after us got a fresh basket of bread. Food finally came and we asked for cheese for the pasta. We never got any. He never came back to see how our meal was and never returned for more drinks we had to go to the bar ourselves and get them. When I asked for the check it took another 15 minutes and when he brought it he never said anything just dropped the check down on the table. I have to say the food was good but I would not return because of the terrible service. One more thing the bar was not very busy and we waited 10 minutes and was never acknowledged but others who came after us were taken care of. Worst service I have ever had and we eat out a lot . I give the food a 4 and the service a 1.
Review Source:With a better wine list I'd give this place 5 stars. Have been here about half a dozen times now and its one of my favorite Nashua haunts when I'm in town. The beautiful colonial building speaks for itself. Re the alleged rudeness of staff, I have never ever noticed this...just classic smart-ass wise cracks that are a familiar part of the New England character to anyone who grew up in this region (as I did). Each time our server has been awesome...funny and efficient.
When in New England, go for either comfort food, or the creative stuff if you are in the right restaurant. I went for an old old classic, chicken pie. I have to say it was easily among the top 2-3 best chicken pies I've had. The crust was flaky, buttery, and light as a feather so as not to overwhelm the dish. The chicken was in large moist chunks of mostly white meat. The sauce and vegetables were just perfect. And it was blistering hot. The house salad of mixed greens is one of the largest I have seen here.
Bathrooms it must be said could use a little work in keeping ship shape. But this place doubles as a music venue for indie bands, so I get that. Â Some good regional beers on tap, which is what you want as New England out-does any other part of the country when it comes to winter/holiday beers.
Hard to recommend a place that advertises/markets the ' 5 Dollar Fody Burger' and fails to deliver. In fact, Ive had better burgers at chains that I choose not to even bother with anymore. Below average food. Dark dingy feel to the room. Servers are kind of half-assed, same for bartenders. Forgot to 'up' my gin and ended up with the house selection which made the foulest drink aftertaste, more my fault, but wtf..
The burger tasted frozen and old..like it was laying around for awhile thawing old. The bun was toasted probably an hour pre, so that was a huge mistake. Slogged through it and told myself never again. Tries to be upscale/casual but not even in the ballpark.
Question: is there a chef on duty? If not, needs to be..maybe clean up the dining room? air it out..smells of ass gone past with a hint of cigarettes
Watch out, if they decide to spark up a DJ or a band while you're there eating..the room is so small you can't even hear yourself think once that fires up..Pass
Went to Fody's for dinner during Restaurant Week in Nashua. Â It was a cool and rainy Friday night so the foot traffic was pretty low. Â We had reservations for 7:30p for four. Â We arrived around 6 figuring we could sit at the bar and wait for our friends and have a drink. Â Bad idea. Â Although there were about 20 people in the whole restaurant, the service was so slow, we waited over 10 mins just to be asked if we wanted a drink. Â We were sitting in the bar area at the high tables.
After ordering a beer and a cup of tea, (it was cold, remember?) I decided I wanted a glass of wine. Â I waited maybe 15 mins for the waiter, then waited another 15 mins for my wine to come. Â Needless to say, I had 1 drink.
Now dinner.....we were seated around 7:30p, place still not even remotely busy and those that were there were at the bar, not eating. Â We waited over 15 mins for a different waiter to ask us about drinks. Â We should have ordered dinner when he came back with them, but the table wasn't ready so we just ordered an appetizer, calamari. Â When it came, we finally ordered dinner, around 8p. Â Calamari was good, but so crispy, you couldn't taste the actual calamari.
We didn't get our dinners until after 8:30. Â Now remember, there was no one in there eating. Â Just drinking and there were 4 of us and none of us ordered anything that takes a long time to cook.
I had the scallops. Â They were decent; very salty and too much dressing on the bed of greens they sat upon. Â My other half ordered the lobster BLT. He loved it. Â The other couple we were with ordered the filet, each. Â Both loved it.
The food is great, but the service is awful. Â I will never go back. Â I thought it might have been our first waiter, but the second waiter was just as slow. Â They were both more concerned with the patrons sitting at the bar, than anyone in the restaurant. We didn't get out of there until 9:15p. Â Understandably, if the restaurant were busy, I expect to have a longer wait. Â There was only one other table of patrons eating in the whole restaurant. Â
Great food, bad service.
Rude waitress, charged for sour cream and steak sauce. Waitress stood at our table when we sat down and wanted us to order dinner right away. Returned steak it was somewhat rare. Wanted to order dessert waiter stated kitchen was closed but we could order the custard pudding. Did not see our waitress all evening. Music very loud, I could not hear my brother across the table from me and could not read the bill it was too dark Staff was cleaning and sweeping during dinner. I do not think I will return to this restaurant too soon.
Review Source:I went on a Tuesday night and ordered a beer. The bartender proceeded to take it from another patron and serve it to me! Totally disgusting. So I told her I would prefer another drink. Her response "What's the problem, he didn't put his mouth up to it and he didn't want it anyway." She ended up serving me another beer and more attitude so I finished my beer and got out of there.
I've haven't tried the food, I heard it was good so my suggestion is order it to go.
Well..it's cozy, and has that feeling like someone from the 1700's may walk in the door. Decent place for a drink and at times, can be a good party atmosphere. Drawbacks - a little too dingy, and, well, the cramped spacing, tables/chairs too close, make it hard to impossible to move around. I will return from time to time, but the neighborhood has many better party locations...
Review Source:I've been to Fody's a lof of times if for no other reason than I think it has the best atmosphere of all the bars/pubs/drinkeries on Main street. Â I would rate it a 4 as a bar, but for my first dinner there, I probably wouldn't go higher than 2. Â So, as an average, I'll call it a three and explain:
As a bar: Â 4 stars for sure. Â It has an awesome cozy, old timey atmosphere and a pretty great selection of drinks, including the wine and liquor lists. Â They could have more beers, but they have enough to get by. Â Most importatntly though, it's just very warm and inviting and reminds me of Europe for some reason.
As a restaurant: Â 2 stars i think is fair. Went for christmas eve dinner. Â It was a little on the expensive side, which i wouldn't have minded if the food described on the menu lived up to the descriptions. Â While my salad was good, my main course of chicken was a huge letdown: rubbery consistency, chewy skin, not loads of flavor. Â The "whipped" mashed potatoes seemed whipped with a fork by hand, and the flavor was really plain. The included dessert was a huge letdown as well. Â I understand that not all berries are always in season, but I think using in season berries would have been a better approach than frozen or canned or liquified out of season berries. Â Great service though, and of course that awesome cozy atmosphere.
Great ambiance! Just leave before the twenty-somethings show up. They really make it hard to appreciate. The food is ok, just don't go for the sunday $4 burger. No matter what you say they will cook it to death. They over-do the sauces, so maybe ask for them on the side. The alcohol selection is average for the area but some of the staff leave something to be desired. But all and all a decent place.
Review Source:YES, the service can come across as 'rude', YES it is a dark pub, and YES the space is small...but this place is a local gem! Â When we moved here from TX, it was one of the first places we went for a drink. Â The server, Denise, made some smart ass comments about what we ordered...but it was AWESOME! Â It was almost like being at home. Â haha! Â I mean, any man that orders a Pinot at a pub deserves a fair amount of ribbing...right?!? Â (My fiance ordered the wine...he's very secure in his manhood ;)
That just broke the ice for us. You must have a sense of humor...if you are all uptight and fuddy-duddy, don't go here. Â It's not the type of place my parents would like...but I'm not my parents!!
We return here often...and catch up on the local gossip from Denise. Â She's a little whip with a lot of attitude, and character. Â She makes some awesome mixed drinks, and sits down with us for a chat when the place isn't too busy. Â We've never had a dish that wasn't great! Â I highly recommend the fish & chips. Â Also, the Peanut butter bread pudding is too DIE for!!! Â A huge piece of heaven, with some ice cream and whipped cream. Â Try it, you will love it!
I return often, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to any of my friends. Â (Because my friends aren't so uptight that they squeeze coal into diamonds!!!) Â Relax, and enjoy the character. Â Good times!
If I could give a negative star, I would, but apparently I have to rate it with at least one star. I can't even say it was for the food, since I didn't actually get to eat, due to the awfully rude host. It was about 8pm this past Saturday and I wanted to check this place out. It is never good business to greet customers with "no reservations, well then, you're S.O.L." Yes, that's exactly what I was told when I walked in. I then asked if there were any seats at the bar and the very rude host told me that there weren't two seats together but maybe we could ask someone to move to make room. Mind you, there were empty tables, but apparently those were reserved. Here's a tip, train your staff! Also, if you need a reservation to come in and sit and eat dinner and there is no opportunity for one to wait for a table to open up, please state that on your awful website.
Review Source:Dinner was good - not the best but still yummy. Spinach artichoke dip was good. Â Mac and cheese was odd. Had tomatoes in it. Â Drink was good and strong.
Atmosphere was cool - quiet and cozy, warm homey feeling.
Only downside - waitress added our bill incorrectly twice and we ended up being overcharged by 10 bucks. Â Called to inquire how to get difference back and received $20 gift certificate for our trouble. Thought that was cool.
Would return - next time probably for quiet drinks in the big comfy chairs.
Fody's is a very quant small restuarant up at the top of Main Street in Nashua. Â
Although it's a great place to drink and have fun...it also has amazing food. Â So it's worth going there for a late dinner, sitting by the fireplace...waiting for the live show to begin and then get your drink on.
The atmoshphere is dark and "pubby", lots of good beers on tap, decent bands, a lot of regulars but the crowd is good.
It's one of my favorite places to either start the night or end the night..
If you like dining in old buildings, then Fody's is the right place! Fody's opened in 2004 inside the historic Greeley Building (circa early 1800s) at Railroad Square. The classic tavern atmosphere inside is very unique with dim lighting. The place has old creaking wood floors, mahogany wood walls, and historic pictures in one open room with bar area (with tvs), table seating, and a section of comfortable green armchair seating with end tables. There's live entertainment on some nights in the tavern. The menu offers creative American pub fare with a changing menu. See the current menu and special events (discounts) such as half price drinks (Mon-Fri until 6:30PM) for Fidelity & BAE and 2 for 1 Tuesdays at http://www.fodystavern.c…
We arrived here around 7:45PM on a Thursday night. The place was very loud with a private party (with buffet) of 30 and 40 somethings just wrapping up. There were also other diners seated at the regular tables, mostly an older crowd. We were seated at an endtable with comfortable armchairs in the other section and the place toned down quickly. Sweet! We ordered our drinks and then the dinners. The complementary rolls (with baked cheese topping) were served hot.
The BBQ Ribs ($18) served with corn muffin, cole slaw, & mashed potatoes were on the chewy and tender side with a a tangy taste. The mashed potatoes was creamy with small potato chunks and the cole slaw & corn muffin were all good.
The Blackened Salmon ($18) served over orzo salad with greens & topped with cucumber dill sauce was very good. The salmon was firm on the outside and tender inside. The orzo salad was very tangy and had bits of feta cheese & olives.
Overall, the meal was pretty good in an old style tavern atmosphere. The armchairs were very comfortable and the service was good. We used an Entertainment coupon for some savings and got $15 off the check. Not a bad way to begin a Thursday night!
