One of the few A.M. bars that are still open in this area. They're not a third shift place since they don't open until 9:00 A.M. They're also probably grandfathered in since the food is microwaved pizza. Period. And you can't open a joint in the city anymore without food.
Was in around ten in the morning with a pleasant bartender named Elisabeth, one regular, and not much else. I had no problems getting a shot and a beer. $6:25 for a Jameson and a Bud. Thank you.
It probably helps going to places that don't have any pretentions being a middle-aged kind of crusty looking guy, generally by myself, who sits where he can't be ignored; next to the serving area for the wait staff, near the tappers, or where the regulars are chewing the fat with the bartender in the event that nobody gives a rat's ass about a new guy coming in. Plus, if the bartender is ignoring you, you gotta' say something. You don't even have to hang around for a drink but there are ways that you can get service from the dumbest son-of-a-bitch in the world behind the bar without calling him/her out, and be diplomatic. Which seems to be the knock on this place from the other two reviews.
Nice clean place with a walnut bar, comfortable stools, a nice stone floor with a raised stone foot rest under the bar to park your feet, windows enough to light the place in the daytime, and enough room to move around without bumping into people. They're not loaded with barstock but they're also not loaded with overpriced crap. Nice straightforward neighborhood joint.

Thought this place would be a cool place to stop, being the name seemed enticing.... DO NOT BE FOOLED!!! My boyfriend and I walked into the bar sat down and it took 15 minutes before we got served and it wasn't cause it was crowded there was a total of 5 people in the bar including us. She had a hostile attitude and the regulars wasn't to outgoing with us. The jukebox also has a sign which basically says if we don't like your music we can kill the song your playing. Then just don't carry that music. If I put in money for music I'd like to hear it. After seeing that sign I decided that playing music and having another round was out of the question. Friendly Tavern, um no it ain't.

This place is pretty much as advertised, if we're talking about the regulars. Friendly's is your typical neighborhood bar on the north side, filled with 9-5ers who've been there since 6. The bar isn't flashy and you won't find any hipsters, but the drinks are cheap and the juke box is ok. There's a lot of country and a little bit of Queen and AC/DC. The bartender can have a little attitude at times, but once you get to know her she'll take good care of you.

If you're not into talking to strangers this might not be the place for you. Like I said, all the regulars are friendly. It's the only bar I've been to where it's just assumed that you're there to talk to everyone else, and I mean EVERYONE.

I wouldn't really go out of my way to head back here, but I certainly wouldn't complain.
