I have traveled to SLO several times and always stop in here for a drink. There is usually a band playing but I am really only out for a drink. I love the pub ambiance with the creek side patio & English phone book. It has a younger hipster crowd but I have always met & chatted up with very nice people. Bartenders have always been attentive. Strong drinks- reasonably priced. But why is every drink in SLO a double?!!! I had to cut myself off!
Review Source:Kind of trashy to be honest. Went here post-race while in SLO. Drinks are alright, but it took forever for the bartenders to even notice us. We sat outside to get fresh air, but by 5, it was filled with noisy clique-y smoking hipsters. At one point my friend went to get another round of drinks and this really drunk guy started talking to me, which is fine, but he was really really drunk. They probably should have stopped serving him a while ago.
Review Source:This was my go-to bar in college. Â It was divey, they only sold beer at the time, and the restrooms were disgusting and half the time out of order. Â Now...they did a remodel and I know they have a full bar. Â So it is different but many great times of being able to walk from my downtown SLO house to Tuesday Pint Night and Wednesday Reggae Night. Â I hope this generation of Cal Poly students and locals alike are enjoying it as much as I used to!
Review Source:Went with my GF for her 21st birthday. The bartender gave her a free drink. That was nice of him.
It was however a freakin cold night and despite having a door, no one thought it would be a good idea to close it. My legs were very cold
Also the glass of water I got tasted like seafood. If you can't even get the most basic drink of all right, I'm not giving you any more than 2 stars.
I've been here a few times to listen to a good band and catch up with friends over a game of quarters and a pitcher or two. The music is good and the drink prices are pretty awesome.
The bartenders are kind of rude and seem to always have a 'tude. I get that it's a bar and bartenders aren't supposed to be all chipper, but there's no need to be aggressive and rude.
I would come here a lot more if they fired their mean, unhappy bartenders, and hired new ones with better personalities.
Beer that costs $1 are fairly common here in SLO on Tuesdays and draws an impressive crowd. Â Hope they have lots of stalls in the restroom. Â Unfortunately, none of us really wanted to go out, except for this one guy, who kind of rallied us. Â But that just wasn't enough.
Some hideous atrocity tried to hang out with me and stared and pointed and eventually even spilled beer on me. Â What monstrosity.
Kind of tried to have a UK vibe here. Â I don't know. Â The band inside was so damn loud we had to go outside to hear anything. Â And it was crowded there too. Â Guess you can't go wrong with $1 beers.
As an alumna from Cal Poly, SLO. I definitely have fond memories of many a Pint Night spent here.
Now that I'm "grown up" and no longer live in the area, I MAKE SURE to stop by here whenever I'm in town. I love the warm, fuzzies I get when I walk in.
There is little to complain about here--lots of good beers on draft, a full bar (if you're so inclined), a great little patio out back, and amazing live music. It's great for a short stop on a pub crawl, but just as great to post up here for an entire night and enjoy a live show.
My only complaint is the lack of AC. It can get a little hot in the bar on warm days.
If you're coming in for just one pint, bring cash. They have a $10 minimum for CC charges.
This was a pretty fun bar to stop by. If you're in SLO for one or two nights and you want a list of bars to hit, I would include Frog & Peach Pub on that list.
They have lots of British beers which I appreciated. I think I got some porter by Murphy's. I don't really remember what it was exactly but they will most likely have something yummy you haven't tried before.
They also have Boddington's on tap. I highly recommend getting this since it's sorta rare to find it on tap unless you're at a bar like this.
If you don't like this place there's lots of other good places nearby.
Good times and not so good times here...
Bartenders - some dude preceded to take orders from single guys three different times when they had approached the bar after me. After guy two I made a comment in regards to asking if he would order me a Newcastle just so I could finally have a beer. He laughed got his beer and I'm sure the bartender overheard, the reason he moved onto single guy number 3. Number 3 - my hero - basically told the bartender he might want to take my order and at the same moment the girl bartender asked me what I wanted - finally!!
A guy friend asked to buy me a drink - for sure! He was at the bar on his own and was fully ignored by the male bartender. Thus the two star review that 2 people's vibes were tossed in one seating.
Music wise - band was great. A little on the loud side but that didn't seem to matter - people just started yelling at the person next to their side - making the atmosphere even louder.
Total fan of this place. The bar tender was awesome, knowledgeable, and totally took care of me and my girlfriend. Â And he didn't refuse to serve me my cider on ice, big plus.
The band was fun. We happened to stumble on this place while on our little mini-vacation, and I was happy we did. I'm not sure this place sees a lot of lesbian couples, but they still treated us so well and I'm proud for them of that. Thanks for making our vacation awesome.
This was one of my favorite bars in SLO. Great pint night and most of the late night patrons are college students, so creepy old guys are down to a minimum. Â However due to the popularity of this place, finding a spot to sit is like running a gauntlet. If you want a sweet booth, come early before 10pm. Otherwise, expect to be standing most of the night or having to endure second hand smoke at a table out in the back.
Pint nights are on Tuesday. You have to buy a cup for $6 to get the deals. It use to be $5, but hey, shit happens. At least for your money you get a good looking cup with the pub's logo on it that you can take back every pint night. There are $1 beers (Coors & something else mediocre I can't remember), $2 better beers (Fat Tire, Blue Moon, Widmer hefe, etc.), and $3 delicious dark beers. Check out the beer selection on the chalk board hanging on the back wall of the bar, towards the center.
My faves are the $3 dark beers - yum! Murphy's is probably my favorite with the Black Butte being a close second. If you desire mixed drinks or cocktails, I recommend going elsewhere because it's not their strong suit.
If you're feeling up for a challenge, you can race the bartender. For $2 each, you get some Guinness and attempt to not to look like a fool because the bartenders are FAST. They use to have a women bartender who was a total BEAST at this, but I don't think she works there anymore. :( Watching her put college boys and girls in their place was always a fun sight.
Bathrooms are probably one of the cleanest of the bars downtown and as a women, you will appreciate that 99% of the time the women's bathroom wait is significantly shorter than the men's. Â
Also, weekends have $2 covers, but there is usually a live band, so meh, can't hate.
Frog is definitely my friend and I's 'starter' bar. When we are hittin up the dt scene this is one bar we don't mind starting off sober at. Usually always live music *Can get pretty loud but if the music is good, which it usual is, its okay . Lots of places to sit but booths fill up fast. The outside area is a nice escape that not a lot of bars dt have.Bartenders are extremely friendly *Not all bars dt are this way.
I recommend the pear cider(for a lighter option), or a long beach
(long island with cranberry instead of coke). Tues pint night*Don't forget your pint glass!, Fri reggae*live music and $2 redstripes. The ages seem to range quite a bit. Fun place to hang out and play drinking games at a booth, drink n shoot the sh*t at the bar, Â or dance your ass off :)
Live music was nice!
Frog & Peach is certainly not my style, but they serve Wyder's Pear Cider which is amazing enough to come back for.
I was kinda pissed that couples kept taking the booths considering a group of 5 of us would have put it to better use then two people sitting and putting their legs up. But whatever. A bit of an older crowd (at least on the saturday we went...)
The music is pretty good here.. They play a lot of oldies music and usually have a live band. Tuesday pint night is legit too. 1 dollar coors and budweiser (also light beer too).
Don't come here expecting a classy ambiance. It's an English/Irish bar with lots of people, loud music, and alcohol. You have to scream to talk to people most of the time here and sometimes their staff can be really rude but I don't go here expecting great customer service..
Just a cool place to get some good (sometimes cheap) beer and listen to some loud live music!
Frog and Peach is a great place to grab a beer and listen to some live music. It is interesting to see that people don't like the remodel, I for one LOVE IT! Prior to the remodel I walked into Frog and Peach feeling cramped and claustrophobic, with the new remodel, it feels more open and you can move around more easily even when its packed.
Tuesday Pint nights are awesome! Just like any bar in SLO it can be packed during the school year, but if you are looking for a place with good bartenders, cheap beer and live music... I suggest this place. It also has a great patio out by the creek, thats where I usually hang out.
At 10 PM, this was the only bar that suited the picky bf (MoTav was too empty, and another place a couple of doors down from Frog & Peach was too busy). Perfect amount of people in this place.
The drinks were cheap (according to the bf). I didn't see the bill, but he kept raving about how the bartender charged him "nothing" for 6 drinks (two shots of Hennessy with pineapple on the side, AMF, Long Island, Russian Mafia [I think], and a drink the bartender created herself). Very nice people at this place- both locals and visitors.
We'll be back at this pub the next time we're in SLO.
Yeah we liked the Frog and Peach. Quite a bit actually.
We managed to steal ourselves a booth for the 5 of us chaps and proceeded to play some drinking games to get the night started and shake off the enduring hangover from the night before.
I think we had grand plans to go elsewhere but the combo of delightful company (in the shape of friendly gorgeous girls), a good vibe, fun band and cheap beer.... and, well, we didn't really go anywhere else. We stumbled out late to find some night food and those girls that invited us back. Good times.
I especially like this place on Tuesday for pint nights with friends and local bands. Â And I had liked it more on the weekend nights until they started charging cover more recently after their remodel (thank god it doesn't smell like stale beer as bad as it used to).
They have a good selection of beers that I like and they know their beer mixes. Â And those bartenders can sure chug them down during a race. Â I like this place and feel content in it, but it's not something that gets me really excited, and nor is it some place I wouldn't stop by on a night on the town. Â However, definitely recommended.
Although this is only a 3-star review, I have to preface that by saying that this is the best bar in SLO and pretty much the only exclusive bar I graced my presence with more than once. It's not that this bar is amazing, it's just that the other bars are *that bad.*
Frog and Peach is best known for it's peach wine, and you should definitely try some if you haven't. It's quite good, not very expensive, and comes in a mug ala a beer. Â I also like that there's a back patio, since the interior of the bar is unfortunately kind of grimy and extremely loud. They also have good bands come play sometimes.
Other than that, there's nothing that really stands out about this bar. It's a pretty typical bar for conversation and some dancing with a vibe dominated by Cal Poly students, making even other young adults feel out of step. It's not a great bar, but it's still the best place in SLO for the under-35 crowd to grab a drink.
My favourite bar in SLO, but it's still a bar, so only 3.5 stars. The cover is usually $2-4 ($5 grad weekends), but I know one of the bouncers so he lets us in for free ;). This place is a little small so it gets really hot inside when it gets crowded. but the plus is that they have a nice patio (not as nice as black sheep's though). they recently remodeled, so it looks a lot nicer than before, especially the bathrooms. if you've been here before the remodel, then you know that's a big deal!
Specials: M-F 4-6 $1 off drafts ; Friday is Reggae Night with live music $2 Red Stripes; Tuesday  is Pint Night where you buy a glass for $3 and refills in them are $1-3
I am very glad that they decided to remodel the bar. Â I mean we ladies finally have a bathroom that we might want to use. Â And we do not have to see the boys peeing when we pass by in the hallway.
I do miss the front windows though. Â It was pretty nice to be able to enjoy a beer and watch the people go by. Â I do have to admit that I am sad that they do not have trivia anymore. Â That was the best.
How can you go to college in SLO and not have only great things to say about Frog & Peach? That's right, you can't. This place was the best hangout on a Tuesday for Pint Night. The beer was cheap and you got to keep the glass. I have so many of these glasses and love them.
One of my best memories of college was going to grab some food and beers with my roommate. After a few hours of that, we headed on over to the Frog & Peach for a bit. It was a blast. They have a decent selection of beer and the outdoor patio was awesome. The only bad thing is that it's pretty narrow inside and can get very crowded. Also, getting a beer can take some time when it's busy.
Whenever we head up to SLO, my buddies and I end up spending the majority of our time at the Frog & Peach. Â It's definitely not the nicest looking bar, but then again, it's always these kind of places that I'm drawn to. Â The bartenders are usually pretty friendly, they always seem to have live music (at least on Thursday nights), they have a little dart room, and the best part is that they have a patio with an old phone booth! Â
The only negative is the bathroom situation. Â The men's bathroom door doesn't lock and the women's bathroom door doesn't even have a lock! Â Because I can't feel 100% comfortable when going pee, I can only give Frog & Peach 4 stars.
F&P is my favorite destination in SLO on a tuesday night. As if the FREE live music wasn't enough of a draw (which they also have on Saturday nights), it's also pint night with lovely beer specials. It's often very packed, making it extremely difficult to find a place to sit (booth, at the bar, or outside). The patio is awesome on those crowded nights when the inside temperature could roast some chestnuts. The bathrooms are beyond deplorable - for the ladies, I seriously advise avoiding them (er it, only one toilet) at all costs! I haven't had any problems with any of the barkeeps. They have a Guinness race where if you or any of your friends beat them chugging, those beers were on the house--these guys are pros though and I have yet to see them lose. The dart boards are cool, can't say I remember playing though because I was too drunk...
Also some of these reviews are out of date. They used to only serve beer and cider, but they have since expanded their alcohol selection and now do serve a full bar.
I want to give F&P a 4 star rating. Due to an unfortunate encounter with a sour tempered bouncer who denied me and my "fake" ID (which happened at Downtown Brew, too) I have to give them 3 stars. If your bouncer is turning away legit business, that's sad and worthy of a star demotion.
Only one bartender has served me or my boyfriend when we've gone (he was also our server at Big Sky and was very nice then, too). The others are too busy staring (or glaring?), maybe it's a severe macho eyeball condition.
I used to go to this place as a kid when it was an ice cream parlor. They haven't changed the floor plan and the booths are still the same. There seems to be a clog in the movement - you walk in by the small stage that usually hosts a reggae band and then there is the bar where people generally stop progressing. Politely make your way through the crowd to the back where there is a dart room, hang a right and a left down a narrow hallway to the bathrooms (abort, abort!) and finally a breath of fresh air! Well, sort of fresh. An outdoor patio by the creek, next to the swanky Novo patio with fancy lights making the F&P patio seem a little more decadent than it really is. Great to get away from the steamy interior and enjoy the evening air.
Drinks aren't too pricey either.
Coming from the Castro District in San Francisco where heteros are the minority, I'm always on the lookout for Queers when I come back to SLO. Seems like F&P is the place to go these days.
All in all, I like this place. I wouldn't mind better service though.
On a recent pub jaunt around SLO my friends and I decided to cross the street from Mother's Tavern and head into Frog &Peach Pub......it was the best decision of the night.
- No Cover
- Rockin' live band
-Cheap beer (and they have peach cider!)
- Plenty of tables, benches, and standing room throughout the bar
- Great patio
Sure, it's not fancy but the hooch is cheap and you really can't beat free entertainment. The patio out back is really cute and overlooks the creek (you can even use the back as an entrance).
If the owners would find a mop and a few cleaning rages it would do wonders for this place. Fun, but dirty, tired and run down. Maybe the best dive in the main drive in SLO Town.
Drive Bar Rating ***** **(see SLO Drive Bar List)
Drive Bar Rating Factors: (1 * for each)
Small *, dark *, seedy characters on bar stools *, windows and floors could use a wipe *, good drinks *, smart ass folks on both sides of the bar, locals hang out *, clandestine meetings * in the far corners of the lounge or the bathrooms, extra points for smell **, tacky design and poor service *.
Ralff sez, "Check the place out!
2 words... Pint Night.
If not for Frog and Peach I would have had to pay tons of money for beer and Cider, which lets face it, sucks. You buy a cup for 2 bucks then you can have any beer there for 1.50 (Used to be 1.00 but they raised it). Awesome Patio that gets PACKED, dart board that I never played, and the shittiest bathrooms I have ever seen! Only 1 stall and all the ladies make friends with one another rushing people out (a group of us even made a 60 second rule once) - you bond over the smallness, and pure grossness of it. If you haven't written on the wall in the bathroom, then you are not a true Frog and Peach patron! There must be 30 years worth of notes on the wall!
I am sure I am WAY to old to go back there now... I mean San Luis Obispo is a college town, but fuck it! If I am ever passing through on a Tuesday, PINT NIGHT it is!!! I miss the days of paying under 2.00 for a pint of beer!
They only serve beer, no hard alcohol, so anyone who only drinks liquor you are SOL.
