I went here with a friend at lunch time on a Friday and we were the only ones in the restaurant which alarmed me at first. I was excited to find Dobin Mushi soup on the menu as this is not something you find at many Japanese restaurants.. It is prepared and served in a small cast iron kettle, and you usually pour the broth into a little cup, ad a squirt of lime and enjoy.. However the waitress did not understand how to server this and I received a tea kettle of soup with a Chinese soup spoon (which does not fit in the kettle even if you wanted to eat it that way). I ordered a variety of sushi and my friend had a couple items as well. The food was okay, It was nothing special just basic sushi and their selection of special rolls left you wanting. But the sashimi that I ordered was fresh and tasty. The prices here seem a bit higher than normal for sushi but overall it was a decent meal and I would definitely go again.

Our experience here was that Fuji is "casual" sushi.

It gets busy really fast on the weekends.

The dining area is a little but lacking;  they could benefit from getting new furniture.
The bar is super long and is really popular...the stools are comfy.

The sushi (and its price) definitely make up for the odd ambience.
There are always yummy special rolls, and the fried calamari is tasty too.

The service was attentive and polite.  However, the waitress didn't tell us which roll was which, but being experienced sushi diners, I didn't mind.

    I'll be back for sure.

After a very poor experience here two years ago, I came here with my friends.  The food was delicious!  I was very happy with the portions and price.  I wasn't even that hungry and I ended up ordering the vegetable tempura after sampling my friends.  The Ikura (salmon roe) was awesome.  My friend ordered a specialty roll (I forget what) and it was excellent.
The waitress was barely there though.  We were there for about two and a half hours.  She didn't refill drinks and when I wanted to order an additional item, I had to wait 45 minutes.  She kept walking by and ignoring me to take care of a larger table.  We waited about a half hour to get the check and 45 minutes for her to process the payments.  It got to be really ridiculous.

Been here way too many times and have left disappointed. The staff here seriously have ego issues. I was here with my boyfriend one time, and we got the fishbowl drink. The ditzy/rude waitress brought us out the wrong flavor so without giving her a hard time we simply asked for the correct flavor. I see her walk over to the bar, all pissed off at the fact she screwed the drink up, and then starts complaining about us to another customer at a bar! ...How mature?

The food AND drinks here are overpriced and lack quality. Last night I ordered takeout which consisted of very simple items that did not need to be cooked. Placed the order at 8:00... Didn't come to my house until 9:50. The only reason I had it delivered was because the game was on and I didn't want to miss anything. Fugi's is literally 5 minutes away. Why did it take that long to get here on a Monday night? Who knows.. So anyways, after waiting practically forever I was finally able to eat my dinner.. The avocado maki was brown, the rice paper roll lacked content, my fried tofu wasn't cooked.. The only thing they didn't screw up on was my side of white rice. And this is the best part of it all, two hours after eating it, I'm in the bathroom getting sick. Cross contamination? Ugh, talk about lack of professionalism in the kitchen.

Lets just say I'll be eating at Kagawas for now on. They know true customer service and their food is delicious.

Ordered delivery, which took OVER TWO HOURS.  When the food was delivered, there was no apology or acknowledgement of the delay.  The avocado maki was brown, and the noodles were cold.  Awful food, terrible delivery service.  Go to Kagawa.

Went in with a Groupon thinking, oh, why not give it a try. But sadly, this was not a good experience, service or food wise. Our waitress was very nice when she was actually there, but it seemed we were forgotten about too many times. My noodles were brought out first and the sushi was promised soon after, but I had already finished eating my noodles for 10 minutes before my husband's rolls finally appeared.

The tenzaru soba noodles were overcooked and not the best in taste. Just tasted like store-bought stuff that you could whip together at home. And the rolls were a bit bleh and why did they take so long? They were not complicated special ones, just avocado rolls and other veggies rolls!!

I have had way better sushi in a mall. And if the service had been more complete, we might consider coming back since we live in the neighborhood. But I would rather drive out to Sudbury for Oishii Two.

    Sad.

Was around town so stopped by for the sushi. It's kind of sad this place is so big because it was so empty at 1pm for lunch (literally two people at the bar, me and another couple in the back).

I was in the mood for a variety so I ordered the fuji boat 1 for $29, which included nigri, sashimi, and makimono. Honestly, the sashimi and nigri were REALLY fresh and they gave generous portions. It's the rolls that are there downfall. I wanted so badly to order some specialty rolls, but nothing sounded appetizing (it was always something cream cheese with one type of fish). Any sushi place can make a california roll, but it's the specialty rolls that set you apart. In terms of their rolls, VERY blah, but at least I know the fish is fresh.

It's close to home, it's not expensive. Both fit the criteria for when I'm hungry and don't want to travel far for sushi. So yes, I'm a frequent customer.

Be aware, you may leave smelling like food. Ventilation isn't too great here.

I went there with a party of four. There was no wait so that was fine, especially for Friday night. The four of us ordered and the servers and hostesses were okay (as expected).

Two of our party got their food on time, chicken teriyaki and sashimi an rice. Can't get that wrong. Then me and my girlfriend, we waited for over 40 minutes for 3, just 3 rolls. We asked our server what's up and we find out that the other table had our food. Sure no problem, it happens. Mind you it's been forty minutes. Our server says "it's coming soon" and we, already a bit pissed was like sure.  By this 45 minute mark, our friends were done eating. Another 30 minutes passes before we get our rolls.  I understand it takes time to make rolls, it's no easy feat. But in those 30 minutes we saw tons of more rolls come out. you'd think management would put a customer who's order was messed up at a slightly higher priority but NO.

And that's one. TWO, management was not at a bit sorry! The manager tosses the plate on the table, and an abrupt "sorry for the wait" later, gone.

Service was terrible. Food was okay, what you would typically expect of a sushi joint of this grade.

But honestly, If you want sushi at a cheaper price with better service, you're better off at the real "Fuji" in North Quincy, or Beni's for a quick bite, even go to Tokyo steak house in Braintree by SSP and pay maybe a bit more.

Love the vibe of this mini downtown area.  The decor colorful and fresh, service kind. I loved the fried sushi with cream cheese, and app's. A lovely place to hang and have a beer.  Excellent, trendy, tasty!

As far as sushi in the Quincy area goes, this isn't anything special.  It's fresh, it's clean, it's pretty decently priced.  The one thing this place has that is unusual for the other sushi places I've been in town is that there is a nice long bar with TVs, which is a nice addition.

The first time I came here, my boyfriend and I sat at the bar and had asked the bartender for recommendations.  We ended up with way more food than we needed and were a bit overwhelmed. The bartender was nice and talkative and obviously knew the menu.  The food was good, but nothing out of this world.

The second, and last time that we came, we were sitting at a table with a very inattentive waitress. It took 10 minutes for us to get asked waht we would like to drink, and another 10 to get the drinks.  We tried to order when she put our drinks down but she ran off in the other direction before we could say anything.  She finally came back and asked "Can I get you guys anything?" Yes, you may...how about some food? Once we ordered the food was out pretty quickly, which was good because by this time we were starving! We were done eating and were sitting with our dirty dishes in front of us for another 10-15 minutes before she came to take them away (BIG pet peeve!). We asked for the check as she was clearing the plates, but seemed like she forgot when she walked by 3 times empty handed.  We finally paid and the first words we said when we were out the door was "should have sat at the bar!"

I come once a week for amazing sushi. What started as 2 rolls has escalated to 7 rolls so that's 42 total sushi pieces, of which I eat 30 and my boyfriend eats 12.

    He thinks I'm a monster.

But the Japanese have longer life spans because they eat so much fish so I see it as taking care of my health to down 5 rolls of 6.

The sushi was really good and my friends that don't eat sushi also enjoyed there food. I liked the atmosphere,we went on a Friday and the entertainment was okay we got a seat in the front so it was a little hard to talk to the people around you. The drinks were a little expensive the scorpion bowl was really good but the margarita was small for 8 dollars.

Fuji is a main stay in Quincy and for good reason.  The sushi is good but I think the modern metro decor is what really attracks people to return and not visit Kagawa right next door which in my opinion raises the bar for sushi on Hancock St a little higher than Fuji does.  Still a fun place to go!

Decent sushi, but a bit overpriced.

Only plus side is they have a full bar, with strong drinks.

    I'm definitely a fan!
Funky decor, perhaps a little too open and not cozy enough, but the bar is nice and long and the booze selection is pretty great for a japanese place (considering the fact that most have a limited liquor license).
Love the japanese nachos. It's like salmon sashimi and tomatoes with tobiko and chips...idk it's amazing.
The sushi never disappoints. Super fresh, innovative, not too much rice.
Service is sporadic. Sometimes it's fantastic sometimes it's mediocre, but that goes for most places.
I've been here at least 5 times and will definitely keep coming back

Sushi is one of those things that when I crave, I crave. And when I crave, I could figuratively eat for days. That being said, I've been to Fuji a lot over the years, and it is still my go-to sushi spot when I'm in the Quincy area.

The fish is fresh daily; when they run out of a certain type of fish, it is because they did not order enough for the day. In my opinion, that's awesome. I'd much rather be told that they don't have spicy tuna because it sold out as opposed to being served fish of inferior quality. Freaks me out.

In order for me to give four stars, I'd have to really feel that every experience I've had has been wholly good. The majority of my experiences have been good. Some have been okay. Because of that, I cannot in good faith give Fuji a 4-though I really want to, because the management here is awesome. I do feel, however, that a 3 rating is relatively low, and a 3.5 more adequately reflects my feelings about this place.

The fried cheesecake dessert, though not exactly low cal, is probably one of my favorite things on the menu and quite possibly in this world. I could literally eat it for days. It is so light while simultaneously decadent; try it, and you'll understand what I mean. Don't try it if your New Year's Resolution is to lose weight. And don't say I didn't warn you =)

By far, Fuji is the best sushi joint in Quincy. I would recommend it to friends. A solid choice.

Recommended by a coworker and confirmed to be "good sushi" by my bf who is a self professed sushi snob after living in Japan for a year.  I enjoyed it too.

Went on a Friday night,  there was a wait but we found two seats at the bar.  The first glass of white wine they poured was off color and tasted off too.  The bartender poured a fresh glass for me no problem.

I came here for the first time on the day of my birthday, it was quiet. My friends and I ordered the Terriyaki dishes with stir fired noodles and 7 different types of sushi.

One of my friends who never had Asian foods ordred the Sweet and sour crab meatballs and licked the plate clean, my mom and other friend split the grilled terriyaki squid dish it was a weeeeee bit chewy but other than that the sauce was good.

My friend loves eel so she ordered an eel bomb maki, I like cheese and creamy stuff so I ordered the steak and cheese roll, CrunCheese roll, a deep fried Philly roll, an onion/mozarella roll, a california roll, scorpion roll, and the spicy tuna roll.
I thought half of them were a hit-or-miss type of thing. The CrunCheese and scorpion role IMO was best.

Service was attentive, we had 2-3 different girls serve us which was fine.

The funniest thing about that visit was the bathrooms. Of course silly me, I should've known that the red door was the "Women's" side, I stood there for a moment when the Bartender told me it was the red door and that he's done it a million times :D I think the signs on those doors are cute, the little pictures of the stick figures shape out "M" or "W".

The bill was more than expected but not so bad, I enjoyed the different dishes and cut my cake.

Mediocre sushi and poor service. I have been to Fuji twice. The first time, I was distinctly underwhelmed by their sushi; small rolls and overly mushy rice. There was no real zip to the sushi.

The last time I went my wife and I left before even ordering a drink. The once trendy interior is looking shabby and worn down. We were seated quickly, but a waitress did not visit our table for almost ten minutes. My wife caught the eye of one of the waitresses (three of them hanging around the waitress station chatting) with a friendly wave and smile. The waitress didn't acknowledge her and went on taking with the other two. After that we got up, left and went to Kagawa.

    Food is OK

    Drinks are drinks

Service is OK, sometimes it could be really lousy for no good reason

    The weekend crowd sucks

I come here only because my boyfriend lives nearby and when I'm feeling sushi and don't feel like driving out of Quincy.

The past few times I've been in Fuji I've been really unimpressed by the service.

A few weeks back, I was meeting a large group of friends that had already been seated about an hour or so before I got there.  I arrived with a friend and we sat down with them at the table.  When no waitress came over to greet us (we waited about 5 minutes), my friend went up to the bar to try and get us beers.  She was told that we would have to wait for the waitress.  She came back to the table and we waited another 5-10 minutes.  No one showed up, but a group of 3 staff members stood chit-chatting idly behind the bar.  We left.  If you don't want our money, we'll take it somewhere else.

On a more recent occasion, a few friends and I decided to hit up Fuji for last call.  We arrived around 12:25, late? Yes.  But not last call.  The bar was pretty full when we arrived.  We were served beers and then given the check right away.  At about 12:40 we saw the bartender giving out last call to everyone else in the bar.  When my friend asked if she could have another for last call a staff member said she was sure she could but had to ask the bartender.  When she asked the bartender the bartender came up to us and said, "No, I already did last call for you."  She was rude and not very apologetic.  I thought last call was the same time for everyone but I guess I'm wrong?

I won't be returning.  The staff here cares more about what's convenient for them than they do their customers.  Every time I leave I have a bad taste in my mouth.

Came here multiple times but overall this place is overpriced and every time I come, their portions miraculous shrink. The rice on the maki rolls were basically a few pieces barley covering the seaweed wrap.

Only thing worth coming back here for is drinks and the spicy salmon with wonton chips; salmon chunks mixed with spicy mayo.

I have been here several times with all sorts of friends, some being sushi fans and others not but either way, whomever I go with, we all enjoy the place.
I will have to say by far the best option to go for is the spicy tuna.  This is the one place I have probably had the best spicy tuna, not sure whats so different.  But that is what I pretty much go for.  Idado maki and their miso soup is good.  Great drink selection.  They also have a small desert menu.  Overall this place is pretty much the only place I enjoy in Quincy and still go probably once a month. Another plus they are open really late, which works for people who have late nights at work.

I really enjoy coming here for the food.  The sushi price is decent for what you get.  I like how the have lunch menu that goes through the weekend as well (while other establishments would not).  They give a decent sized portion of their avocado salad, which is my staple item to order whenever I go.

I also like their variety of appetizers that they offer.  Salmon wontons are good to share with 3 or 4 ppl.  Edadame is edadame.

I've also had fried ice cream from a number of places and Fuji's is much better.  They have the right amount of batter with the ice cream.  They used to sell out this dessert pretty often.  In the beginning, I used to get flustered b/c they never seemed to have any.  But now every time I ask for it, they seem to have.

I would only go to Fuji for sushi when I'm in the South Shore.

Fuji's is great!  I come here often with the guys and we end up ordering nearly half the sushi menu.  What I like the most about Fuji's is that their sushi creations are unique.  You can still go traditional but I highly recommend some of their specials.

Besides their dizzy array of sushi options, they have great service especially putting up with our group of 6 hungry guys!  They are also "generally" consistent.  I came during lunch and did not receive the same quality as when I go for dinner.

Definitely faster and more chic-modern than Kagawa, but I have to say the food isn't as good. The sushi is pretty flat; to be honest, I'm not sure I trust all the cuts of food I got (looked a little too grey for my liking).

It's a half-decent Japanese joint in Quincy, not stellar, but it's passable. Their takeout for lunch is quick, so if you work around here it's the faster choice over Kagawa, although again, you may not really feel satisfied by the meal you get.  I placed a takeout order and it seemed a bit underwhelming for lunch, to be honest.

The choice is yours...  Fuji or Kagawa?  I say Kagawa all the way.  Listen to the boss.  Boss knows sushi.

Damn Fuji loves spicy mayo yo.  They put that ish on everything, no Franks Hot Sauce...  I woke up this morning and my F.U.D.A .was full blown.  Way too much mayo yo.  They have  a pretty good sushi selection, better selection than Kagawa but Kagawa's presentation was better than Fuji's.  Looks like Fuji's roll dog was high when he was rolling my sushi.  Just didn't look like tight rolls.  A little loose for my liking, just saying, Rozay likes it tight...

None of the rolls I had blew me away enough to mention them in my review so get whatever you want.  However I did order the Hokkai Yaki.  I thought it was tasty and different.  Go check that dish out.

Maki, Hokkai Yaki, and Sake, oh my!!!  ROZzzAaaY!!!!

This place was described to me as being an orgy of flavors.  I think there were some good flavors but also some under whelming.  We went with a party of 12 people, they were really busy and the wait for food reflected it.  The place was pretty bumping.  I am not sure if the smell around the sushi bar area was because of the fish or if it was more analysis with the patrons in the area.

I tried the "chicken wings", stir fried Udo noodles with seafood and a couple different tries at steak along with some maki rolls.  I wasn't really impressed with anything.  The stir fry Udon noodles were by far the best thing that I tasted.  The tempura items were fairly flavorless, even the ones in the maki rolls.  The "filet" was a creative interpretation of what a filet should be/is.  during a previous visit we got the Miso Salmon which was a couple small pieces of fish for about $20 and is an appropriate serving size for a humming bird.

It took about 20 minutes to be waited on. Our meals came out one at a time.  There was a 40+ minute window between out first dish being served to the last.  We needed to remind our server several times about what we ordered and ask about what the status was about those orders.  Accompanied with the plastic seats, the maze of tables that are a clear fire code violation and the attitude from the wait staff I am not really sure why I didn't give a 1-star you definitely can do a lot better in this area.

I don't even eat sushi and I like this place.

It's a great local spot to go grab dinner with a small group. They have a full bar, lively atmosphere, TV's, karaoke (on some nights) and a variety of food. I recently tried their Restaurant Week menu, 2 items for $25 plus a non-alcoholic drink and ice cream for dessert. The salmon wonton chips weren't on there but we had to order it anyway because it taste so good with the spicy mayo! I actually just get it for the wonton chips/spicy mayo and leave the seafood part of it to the bf. I also love their stir fried udon noodle. YUM!

It's great to go to a place where you'll know the front desk and waitress will greet you with a friendly welcome.

I love Fuji, everything from the staff to the atmosphere to the food, it's all great!! I've gone here with friends and my girlfriend and every time that I've come it's been a fun night. I can't believe some of the reviews of Fuji when people say they've had bad experiences or that it's the worst sushi they've ever had. I've had sushi from some places in Boston that don't even come close to Fuji.

Some of my favorites are tempura sweet potato, mozzarella with scallions, Philly cheese steak, and Yellowtail maki. My girlfriend hates certain fishy foods and after trying the yellowtail with me she gets it every time we go here. Also, the fillet minion is absolutely amazing, melt in your mouth delicious-ness.

I've come on nights that there was live entertainment and it was comfortably crowd, with no wait for a seat in the dining area and not too loud either. Come with friends, enjoy some great sushi and drinks, and have a great time!

Fuji is definitely THE PLACE for the best sushi on the South Shore.

I remember when this place was the best thing under the sun about 2 or 3 years ago.  The atmosphere was great, food was delicious, and the service perfect.

About 6 months ago, after the last time I went here for sushi, I decided that I would never set foot inside the place for a meal.  The service had been consistently bad the last 7 or 8 times I had been there.  Bitchy waitresses that always made mistakes & became aggressive if you had the audacity to ask for what you really wanted.

The portions of the sushi became smaller and smaller every time I would go there and the quality got worse and worse.

I had a conversation with my mother about this place and she told me that the 2 times that she had gone there, not only did they mess up her order - twice, but then it took them 45min to bring her meal out one time, whereas the second time they asked her if she could just eat what she got, not what she actually ordered.

The problem with this place is that it was SO GOOD when it first came out and became so popular that management stopped caring about being consistent in both service and quality of food.

    The biggest disappointment.

Realized that I left a comment on the wrong Fujis. This review is meant for the Fuji on 1546 Hancock. Wrote this review back in 2/13/2009.

I give this place 2 stars. Why? Well I went with my brother and his girlfriend the other night. I got there when the waitress served them their drinks and I asked for a ginger ale. Well 25 minutes later, i still didn't get my drink. So I asked another waitress, she brought it right to me after I told her what happened. She asked me who our waitress was, I pointed my finger (Hell yes, I did. I was pissed) - Well, our bad waitress acted all aggressive towards us the remainder of the night. We didn't let it get to us because that reflects on your tip (and yes I tip shitty for shitty service). Aside from that horrible waitress, the music was pretty damn good. The food was decent (Thank god someone else brought it to us, otherwise I would of questioned if the food was tainted). So I give this a 3/5. Truth be told. Beware of the one with the glasses (vague but I didnt get her name).

Update: I actually went here again last weekend (May, 2009) and guess what? they screwed up again. Took forever to get my sushi. And I was sitting at a table near a big group when really, I was there with only 2 other people!! They added the 18% gratuity (tip) to the receipt and charged it on my credit card. How shady is that?!

Don't confuse this restaurant (if you want to call it that) with the Fuji in Wollaston.

Fuji 1546 looks like it's trying way too hard to be a trendy bar/club rather than give you a good dining experience.  I agree with the post about the cougars and boy-band looking type dudes everywhere.

I've been here only a few times, but each time the food I had was so-so,  fairly over-priced for what you get and the only decent thing here are the drinks... which I've still had better in other places.

All in all... if you've got a new haircut (understand that reference and you get a cool point) and you're looking to pick up a cougar... go here.  But if you want a real sushi dining experience, go to Fuji in Wollaston, nothing beats it.

Trying to make this as short and concise as possible:

    - Bar area is filled with "cougars" and young boy-band looking men.
    - The atmosphere feels like a cafeteria.
    - The service is the worst service I have ever had in my entire life.
    - One person's sushi was brought before the soup (appetizer).
    - The first appetizer (salad) was brought 20 minutes before everyone else's appetizers.
    - The rolls are minuscule. Same size as their sister restaurant which is take-out.
    - The rolls are sloppy and half-filled.
    - My spicy tuna roll was like a glob of mayo with a tiny bit of tuna and a grain of rice. It was disgusting.
    - My way in which to eat their Japanese fish stew needs a instruction manual. While somewhat tasty, I was served a soup filled with large pieces of soup in a teapot.

While I had a great time because I was with 10-star company, this dining experience was the worst I have had in a long time, if not ever.

Went here last night on a date. The food and cocktails here were (sadly, i might add) the best part of the night.

Started off with some grape lemonade martinis- very tasty and well mixed.  He ordered a mix of sushi and i had the gyunegimaki (thinly sliced beef rolled up with scallion and a little bit of cheese) - and both were delicious. The waitress was informative and attentive. I'll definitely come back.

-Place is TOTALLY different on the weekends. Very crowded and loud! But they still have great drinks!

You'll find some of the best sushi in the Boston area here, and cool, modern interior is an inviting place for a few drinks.  The sushi ranges from classic rolls like spicy tuna and odd, exciting experiments like ham and egg and philly steak.  The sushi is reasonably priced but the drink prices are unlisted and outrageous.  Servers and bartenders seem to be under a standing order to be "cool and detached;" you'll have to demand service rather than expect it.

For a more "relaxed" atmosphere, you might try the Beni Cafe in North Quincy, which is owned by the same people.
