Love this place. Â Food is good, place is clean, and prices are reasonable. But, honestly, we have always found the service to be great. Â The first couple of times we went in, we happen to get the same waitress. Â She was friendly, showed a personality and was helpful. Â Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff is really a key to success! Â We always call ahead - if Patty is working, we go and ask for her section. Â If not, we we go to Plan B. Thanks management for providing your customers with a pleasant dining experience.
Review Source:Love this lil' gem of a place! I've heard that it's owned by the same people as Depot Diner so that made me hafta check it out.
Food is sooooo delicious. I've gone 4 or 5 times now and I think I've tried a different meal each time and each were great. For some reason I decided to give them a chance at serving me mussels and they did not disappoint. Usually any restaurant fails to give a decent amount of mussels but GCP gave the proper big ol' stack.
Be sure to check the specials, besides the chilli they all seem to rotate out often (weekly?) so there's new stuff that always sound worth checkin out.
Only bummer thing I can think of about this place is how small it is. They cram as many tables as they can in there so if you're not at a booth, anyone walking by will probably be brushing into you a lil. It also seems to be pretty packed in there, but everytime we've gone a table seems to open up withing 5 minutes.
Great big portions, reasonably priced, absolutely delicious dishes, Garden City Pub is a great place to take a date, or a group of friends.
My husband and I went here for the first time yesterday. Â
Service was very nice, though a little forgetful but that added to the charm because it was offset by her humor.
Portions were HUGE, some of the prices seemed high (mainly the seafood) but I'm sure the portions made up for it.
I had the Artichoke Francoise which was delicious. Â The chicken broccoli ziti in a lemon-garlic sauce was also great but after a huge appetizer (which my husband wouldnt touch due to being a non-veggie eater) it looked like I hadn't touched it and I ate what I thought was a lot!
My husband had the shrimp cocktail, 4 colossal shrimp for 12.00, not bad. Â He then had the bbq steak tips with steak fries and was very pleased.
Drinks were average price for an average drink. :) Â Wines were inexpensive to average priced, decent pour.
I'm all for cheap little hole in the wall restaurants, as long as the food is good. I'm not talking gourmet, just edible, without being grossed out by anything. (my standards aren't that high) This place unfortunately falls in the "not so good category". I've been a couple of times now, and have not enjoyed anything I've gotten. Last time I got the Chicken and Tips combo at $15.95. I was starving after a long day of fighting C.H.U.D.S. and all I wanted was a huge plate of meat and a cold beer. The plate of meat was huge, but the meat wasn't very good. Dry chicken pieces, and super rubbery tips. Like as if they were made out of gum. My girlfriend also got the tips, and she chewed on each piece for what seemed like an eternity. At one point I heard a loud snap, and I assumed she blew an actual bubble with her steak tips. Blorf. The price of the food wasn't that cheap, so you'd think they splurge on better cuts of meat. Nope. The sides were also bland.
I should also mention on my first visit I got the Chicken Teriyaki sandwich. Nothing awful about it, but nothing notable either. Everything changed once I returned home from eating there. I spent the next hour and a half destroying my bathroom with said food. I was supposed to meet my friends at a bar that's local to my apartment. Two hours later when I showed up I looked pale, and as if I had just been getting a HJ from the Grim Reaper. I explained to them the adventure that I had just been on, much to their humor/disgust.
This place packs in the older crowd, and the style of the place makes you feel like you're at your grandmothers. The waitress we had was definitely on the surly side, and seemed put out by helping us. I can deal with surly, if that's your gig, as long as it's done as a joke. If surly is your "schtick" at least smile when your doing it so people don't think you're actually a jerk.
A few friend's of mine seem to like this place, and I'm not exactly sure why. I'm assuming the huge portions of sub par food is their thing. Next time this place gets tossed as an idea, I'll politely tell them to "sugg a bag of dees."
What a great little hole in the wall in beverly, behind other buildings as well. Â Every time my wife and I go she seems to gravitate towards the fetuccini carbonara, not that i complain. Never had a bad meal prices are reasonable and huge portions!
The only complaint i have ever had at the pub is the waitstaff can be rude or neglectful sometimes, but that is hit or miss sometimes u get bad service sometimes it is good the food makes it worth it to me to brave bad service!
Like others, prior to renovations I found this place to be pretty damn cramped. Â Hadn't been in a while and wanted to go somewhere closer to home. Â I think we made a good choice.
Sat up at the bar and I may as well get it out of the way and let you know that the bartender was drop dead gorgeous. Â Of course, she was also attentive and friendly, very chatty with what I assume were regulars.
It was a Sunday night, so the place was filled with blue hairs. Â Struck me as odd, though, since the menu isn't that cheap. Â However, they are probably drawn in by the food portions.
The menu itself has a ton of offerings, which was kind of overwhelming because literally everything sounded so damn good.
Has the scallops wrapped in bacon for an app. Â I've certainly had better (The Depot), but it is pretty hard to disappoint with this one.
After perusing the menu for 15 minutes and changing my mind 9 times I decided on the veal parm (sorry to all you animal lovers out there), which was very good and extremely plentiful. Â I couldn't even come close to finishing the pasta portion. Â It was a nice hearty sauce that wasn't too garlicy.
Didn't order any drinks, so I can't comment on those. Â Pretty average to above average beer and boozahol selection.
All in all, I would go back there for sure, but much like my review, this place didn't blow me away.

We used to go here occasionally, before it was remodeled, and the place was way too tight, the bar was way too big, and if you sat at a table, you ended up staring at the bar-stool riders' butts all night (this was ok once in a while, when the riders were the fairer sex, but most of the time it was a sweaty lookin' old dude with a plumbers toolbox showin' and It was downright awful). Â They've remodeled the place recently, and they shrunk the central bar down and added to the room, so it's waaaay better now. Â The food is really good, the price was just alittle on the steep side, but the portions are huge. Â Draft beer selection was just ok. Â
No biker chicks in the place, but it was February, so I can't hold that against them. Â There were some fine looking Mom types hanging around, however, sipping on some Chardonnay and acting bored but definitely looking for something, and I got in some trouble with The Missus' over checkin' em out (come on, Baby...it was just research). Â As a real bonus, there weren't any young, loud, Â backward baseball-cap wearing, college-age tough guys hanging round either. Â
So, as it turns out, I highly recommend it as a good place to hang out and have a couple of frosties and some good grub with a more mature crowd. Â
Ride Safe.
I have heard good things about this restaurant but I have to say I wasn't impressed; Â My wife and I only ended up here because Nick's was closed for renovations. Â The service was slow, the food was over seasoned and the theme of the embiance just seemed confused...is it a pub or an itallian restaurant. Â My wife and I also noticed that with the design of the place, voices of other patrons seemed to carry across the whole restaurant, by the end of the night we knew everything about this guy's (clear across the bar mind you) recent trip to Florida, and the people's behind us problems at home with their child. I probably would not eat here again, but it seems like an ok place to go in and get a quick drink if I were on my way to Lakeview.
Review Source:This was a fine place to grab a quick drink with friends. It is small, and the bar takes up most of the room, with some tables around the edges. It seemed bright, not much ambience - but good service. They didn't have any porters or stouts on tap, which is really what I wanted, but the Bass was fine. Older locals mostly. Â I can walk here from my house, which is nice.
I'll be back at some point and try the food.
One of my good friends used to be a waiter here, so I have to say the service was great ;-). I was also surprised by some of the more unique entrees they had here; the coconut crusted chicken tenders I had were delicious! What I don't like however, is the small size; the bar takes up 80% of the room, and you've got to walk sideways if you need to move from your table. I also find the relatively window-less interior to be rather depressing--it reminds me more of a mid-class hotel lobby than a nice restaurant.
Review Source:This small restaurant is always packed. Â The food and service is just OK. Â There's a pasta entree I really like, but I have had sandwiches and appetizers here and there just wasn't any flavor. Â Servers aren't overly friendly, neither is the hostess. Â Many people I know love the burgers here, but I can't comment on that because I don't eat burgers. Â I do like their spicy fries, though.
