Bar is old school with a strong local presence, so if you're not a regular you'll be treated that way.  I have been a few times for food and it's actually really good (as far as bar food goes).  There are better places in the Village for food and booze but the G spot holds its own.  There is a rare appeal to this place, oh yeah, it's a bar.  Sometimes bars become bad restaurants, or hipster dives, the G spot is none of those and it doesn't pretend to be.  Get a beer, sit down, and enjoy some tacos if you're hungry.

I'll call it two and a half.

Came in here with a group the other night, looking to extend our "happy hour."

Not a bad joint, but I'm partial to dive bars with a little more charm and character to them--not something that resembles someone's dirt cheap rental property.  It's not a knock, just stating visual facts.

I'm sure, at some point, I'll end up coming back.  Wait staff was fine and the prices aren't bad.  Questionable choices of sports on TV, however.

interesting place. the whole lay out of the place is weird...I actually think it would be perfect for a movie where all the locals hang out....
the drinks were ok, we did not eat..

im a real huge fan of this business but a few days ago everything changed what I thought of this place. Customer service is very huge for any business but on this particular Monday our server didn't have that in mind.  The only timed she came to our table was in the beginning to take our order and second to drop off the food and drinks we ordered in the beginning. the other half of time I had to get up and tell her my order and evrytime I did she was on her phone looking at facebook (are you kidding me!?)  Now here's where it started to fail... when I asked for our check she didn't hesitate to give it to me, but when I requested that the bill be split up since there was three of us, she snapped at me and told me she couldn't do it and that if I needed the check split, that I was suppose to notify her in the beginning of service.
Take into account that this was on a  Monday not busy at all and to get a reply like that from your server is a big no no.
so I sit at the table using my calculator to figure out how much we were all gonna pay. we gave her 3 different payments, and one of them was cash. we got our cards back but my gf didn't get her change back.  she confronted the server and surprisingly enough she said she kept her change because that was the amount we were suppose to tip!!!
I've never been to a restaurant where the server automatically takes whatever left over change you have and pocket it. she argued with my gf saying that if we dont have money to tip then to get the fuck out of this bar...YES SHE REALLY SAID THOSE WORDS. there was no manager to speak to and we do plan to have this incident looked at closely and have this employee removed, im sure you wouldnt want anymore complaints about this same person ruining your business.
I was a fan, but after how she treated us..I will be sure to tell eveyone of this server.

Where hungry guys should go for breakfast.

Met a guy on the Coaster who said to my husband and son, "If you want a good breakfast, with the best chicken fried steak, you MUST go to Grand Avenue Bar & Grill."   So, the next morning, this is where we go....and ordered the chicken fried steak.  Yup, it was good.  Just the right amount of fried with a gravy on top.   This is a BAR.  With customers drinking at 10:30 in the morning.  The portions were huge for $8 - $9.  Here is an example:  chicken fried steak with home fries, plus a choice of three breads (wheat, sour dough, English Muffin) small (really small - Nyquill cap size) side fruit.  Perfect for hungry boys/men without a discerning taste.

Waitress seemed to run the place. She did an awesome job.

So, what would I have liked? A heart healthy option of oatmeal w/fruit.  Nothing like this is on the menu.

Would I go back? Um, no.  Not unless something "lighter" and "healthier" were a choice. Would I expect my husband and son(s) to go? Absolutely.  Without a doubt.  Shovel it in boys.

Food is awesome. Especially breakfast, peanut sauce wings, n the lobster bisque. So good! But unless u have Natalie or Season as ur waitress expect to have an extra long wait for EVERYTHING!!!!.......

Great service every time! The bartender Dewey works his ass off every busy weekend night. Good prices, and great food too! Awesome hamburgers. They have a good beer selection, and a full bar of hard liquor. Order the "Las Vegas Tangerine" as a tall mixed drink. It tastes like a Caprisun, and has enough alcohol to get your night started. And this is the only place that makes them.

I went here with my coworkers for happy hour on a Friday. If you like a small dive bar with friendly people, this is your spot. They have great deals and I loved our server! She was very friendly and brought out our drinks quick. THE POPPERS ARE TO DIE FOR! If you like jalapeno poppers then try these! The only complaint I would have is that the check took a little long to get to us but I do like that they keep it old school and have the written check. Keep up the good work G Spot!

This place was terrible! NOW I UNDERSTAND THE "DIVE BAR" scene completely im from Chicago.......with that being said just because its a dive bar doesnt mean the service has to suck.....went there twice with friends and got charged double for drinks and charged for drinks that I didn't even order....food was so-so........you have been warned!

Bad service. Didn't really enjoy the nasty, stinky trash can next to our seating either.

Grand Avenue and it's adjoining blocks are home to some of my favorite watering holes. The Grand Deli, Carbon Connection, Against The Grain, Boars Crossing, Giblins's (elaboration to come), cantina, pizza port and others. None are so affectionately nicknamed like Grand Avenue Bar & Grill or G Spot. Actually up until like 8 years ago I didn't even know it's real name. I just always called it G Spot. From the outside it kind of reminds me of some sushi joint, but once you step through the janky makeshift front door it feels southern for a sports bar with the fans and foldable tables. The funky step in the middle of the room, the lack of bar space counter the abundance of tv's. Menu is indicative of the name and not the appearance. Good HH specials and wings Thursdays are a really good deal, but they don't have as many flavors as say WPT, Wingstop and others, they do have a peanut butter flavor which is worth a try. A good amount of beers and wines I think service is better outside than at the bar and when it's busy the bar service goes being so busy you can smoke a cigarette, break the seal and still not get your drink order in. Waitress' are pretty good overall, but I think people would prefer the paper towels to the napkins, wet naps provided help at the end. Parking is limited, but with the streets around here, it's more of a walkable bar than anything. The proximity to the apartments in the bad mean last call is super crazy early. They should probably get a discount on the liquor licence closing so early. Come get your wing on, come get your comfort on, come get your Carlsbad on. The G Spot has it all.

Giblin's will always be Giblin's regardless of the patio rules or ownership or name. if you only know of the new name your probably at the wrong bar and might be better served with your bro's and doing girls night out's at Hennessey's.

    Very poor quality meat.

This is a loud sports dive bar. My review is mostly focusing on the food & service and not the atmosphere. The service was not good, it took well over 10 minutes to get our drink order and another 10 for the food order.  I had a to wait a while for a refill on a soda as well.  The food itself looked great - we ordered the Chicken Quesodilla and Pastrami Sandwich. Unfortunately the quality of the meat was very poor.  The chicken, although advertised as breast meat tasted like it was low quality dark meat.  The pastrami was tough and chewy.  I'm only giving it two stars (instead of 1) is because the presentation was nice, the rye bread and steak fries were great.  I wonder, did I just get unlucky with poor quality meat that day?  Possibly because it seems like it should have tasted much better.  It was cooked right, and well presented - but poor quality meat really shows.

    ALWAYS HIT UP THE G-SPOT

Great local dive bar with good prices, tasty wings, and plenty of TVs for sports fans.

I recently came here with my buddy on a Thursday for some wings. $4 gets you a basket (1pound) of hot wings of your flavor choice (regular, hot, atomic, cajun, sweet and sour, peanut butter). I had hot and he got cajun. Mine were so hot, but that's fine. Such great taste and his were so good. Cajun is like a dry rub of spices so you don't get "wing fingers." Even the fries were tasty (McDonald's style).

Beers were okay priced, I got a Corona with lime for $4.75 at happy hour.

Dewey, you truly are the man. In the eternal words of Rhomel D. and just about everyone else reviewing this joint: I LOVE THE G-SPOT!!!

Cheap drinks: check. Clean, always accessible bathroom: check. Spacious bar area with plenty of seating and even a neat little outdoor patio: check. Really sweet and attentive staff: check. DEWEY: check.

Washington Apple cocktails and Ballast Point Sculpin on tap (and cheap PBRs and strong whiskey sevens for the FK) -- will truly be the end of me. Glad to know I'll be able to face my untimely end at such an awesome joint as Grand Avenue though :)

Perfect spot, I guess that's why its' nickname is the "G Spot Bar and Grill". I found this place after walking out of that dump they call the "Coyote Bar and Grill" down the block the overpriced, overrated, tourist trap where they serve warm beer and short-measured shots of liquor by frowning, pregnant barmaids. BTW, the CA.State Liquor Authority might want to send someone in there, undercover, to see how they sell a bottle cap full as a measured shot, just a suggestion, enough about that.

The G Spot is a welcoming, friendly place with Kimberly the bartender. You have to see this girl work a full bar keeping every drink fresh and keeping tabs on, what seemed to be, 20 tickets, no computers, it's poetry in motion. All bachelors in California run to this place and snatch this girl up, beauty and brains doesn't come along too often as God doesn't usually give with both hands.

The music is great, not too loud, the food is very good and the beer is COLD. NYers, try the NY Pastrami sandwich, I felt like I was sitting in the Canarsie Deli (Code speak for NYers). Also, see if you can grab Natalie the waitress, who is another beauty and brains combination, I think this place has the last two. She actually was able to add the check up by hand, remember no computers, and was friendly and took care of us like a true pro.

If you're like my wife and I and want good food at good prices in a comfortable place with a friendly staff then the Grand Avenue Bar and Grill "G Spot" is for you. If you want very loud music, frowning barmaids with warm beer and short shots then walk down the block to the Coyote Bar and Grill.

Judging from my previous ratings, you'd think I was a negative Nancy.  I'm not!!! I do have a certain expectation when it comes to service (most likely from my 12 years experience in the hospitality industry and 5 years in customer service) so I don't hold back when it comes to things I see being done wrong.  With that said, I would like to highlight a little gem in Carlsbad.  Whether it's a Wed. evening happy hour, a Saturday afternoon cocktail splurge, or a football Sunday, the G Spot is home. Great servers, bartenders, and patrons.  They also have reasonably priced food to go with the laid back crowd that visits.  High fives and recognition dominate here. If you want to go hang out in a comfortable, non expensive joint, the Grand Ave. Bar & Grill is your spot.

I love dive bars.  And the G-Spot is about as good as it gets.  There is nothing fancy here -- dive bar atmosphere, dive-bar clientele, and dive-bar prices.  But the food is awesome, the staff and the patrons are friendly, there is plenty of parking, and no pretenses.   Excellent spot for lunch as well as happy hour.

Known to the locals as the "G-Spot"
One of my favorite new spots. The Bloody Mary's are absolutely the bomb here. Couple it with there outstanding Huevos Rancheros which you can add a 5 or 10 oz. steak makes for a great meal. Ya it's a little divey but that's what makes it a local favorite.

Hey thanks for kicking us all out on New Year's Eve at 11:30! WTF??!! They told everyone they were closing.  We had to scramble to find a new spot to ring in midnight when we were perfectly comfortable where we were. LAME :(

This was the perfect Thanksgiving stop-over before dinner. For one thing, it was nice to find a bar that wasn't closed for the holiday--but it was even nicer to find a friendly, local dive with generously-priced whisky. It was a great place to watch some football and loosen up before dealing with the family.

This is clearly a LOCAL dive, which is why I like it...This place EXCELS at breakfast and lunch M-F. On Sat n Sun, you're lucky to find a seat and service is spotty at best cause it seems under staffed and the drinks are questionable... Stay away from anything exotic on the menu...hello...look around.... your best bet for this dive is m-f, for a great breakfast and an A+ lunch! Gotta tell ya tho, Hennessey's is a waste of money compared to this place.

The G Spot is the best place for people watching!! Iit's a chill dive bar with a bunch of cougars running around getting drunk. Love it.

Thursday night's are half off wings so that's usually when I go. Wings are awesome and the beer is good.

The service is oooookkkkay. Nothing great. It took two hours for two of us to get a couple baskets of wings and a couple beers so it's become the place we go to when we have a lot of time to kill. Not a place we would go to for a "quick" bite to eat but none the less, a place we keep returning to because it's that good and entertaining.

Pretty chill place since being dragged here by my friend Crystal. She is a regular which makes this experience pretty chill.

The bartenders know her by name and know what she drinks without even asking . The drinks and tall and strong for the prices you pay.

I'll probably only visit the "G" with Crystal, but I wouldn't mind coming back.

I got mixed feelings about this place...

    Pros:
    lots of room
    great service
    good bar food
    takes credit cards

    Cons:
$5 for a beer at a dive bar???

Liked it better than Peabody's but definitely not as much as the Cantina.  Also there are a lot of jarheads that go here so don't be suprised when you run into a few of them

This is one of my favorite places to have a Bloody Mary! They are good and served in a tall glass like they should be. I used to live down the street from here and I would often eat breakfast here as well. The pasole is delicious and they have good Jalepeno poppers. The two guy bartenders are talkative and attentive. Some of the female bartenders can come off rude and stuck up but I cant say all of them because Haley is very sweet. I would come here very often and this one girl bartender would always card me even though i was almost a regular. That kinda gets annoying.....people like you to remember them. Other then that the food and drinks are the bomb!

My buddy and I were looking to have a beer at a dive so we went here.  We walked in and straight to the bar.  There weren't any stools (it was a Thursday go figure) so we tried to order thinking we could carry the drinks to a table.  The bartender told us to just sit down and a waiter would come.

When the waiter came and asked what we wanted.  We asked what they had on tap or if they had a list of their selection, she pointed at a list four items long of girly raspberry concoctions then walked away.  We caught each other looking at the exit and decided to go to the Golden Tee.  No service, no business.

I had come here once before and got a seat at the bar and was satisfied with the dive.  The drinks came cheap and often.

    New Year's Day . . . hung over . . .dehydrated . . . starving.

We are having problems  . . .  Carne Fries? No, we are past the carne fries hump of the hangover.  . . . We need hair of the dog . . . we need grease . . . we need G spot!

We call, they are open . . . not only are we open, but the gentleman says that they are waiting for us. Hilarity.

We sit outside. In the smoking area. I grew up with secondhand smoke, so I never notice it unless we are in Vegas or something. But my BFF says it bothered her a bit. So maybe sit inside, even though most of the dining seating is in the smoking patio and not inside, especially if you are in a party of 5+.

I order a bloody mary and a large posole. HOLY SHITBALLS! The bloody mary is spicy and tangy and delicious.  . . and strong. Very strong. That or I am still drunk and didn't need to take much more to make me drunk.

The posole is AHHHMMAAAZZZIIINNNGGGGG. Spicy, pork is juicy, lots of broth which is perfect in my dehydrated state. I dump everything (onions, cabbage, cilantro) in . . . except the sour cream. I haven't had posole this good since I was a super active sister in my Latin sorority. The only complaint? It was light on the hominy. But even then, I wasn't in the mood to do too much chewing, so it wasn't too annoying.

I have to say, the burger selection was huge, the breakfast menu had amazing variety, and the cocktails were strong and tasty.

You really can't get much better than that.

*Writer's note - this review is solely based on a 11am meal that was limited to posole and a bloody mary!

ahhhh -- the G-SPOT, a very divey, dive bar. if you go by in the morning and peak thru the door you'll see four or five regulars slouched over their morning eye-openers.

since my office is right across the street, i've stopped by often over the years (more for the grub than the libations but i do enjoy the occasional NEWCASTLE). at non-peak times (like monday thru friday lunch) the place tends to be understaffed, so don't be surprised if the service is a little slow.

definitely laid back kinda place -- nobody goes to G-SPOT to be seen. the crew's a bit on the rough side which i find part of the charm. this not where you go for frills and fru-fru drinks.

for promotions (do they still have WING NIGHT ??) and CHARGER games the place can be a real zoo plus you gotta fight your way thru the smoker gauntlet to get in ...

there are lots and lots of flat screens and pretty cheap beer and eats. i have tried about everything on the surprisingly extensive menu and have never been disappointed. the burgers and fries are especially good.

Known as the "G-Spot" by locals, Grand Avenue Bar & Grill is a unique contrast to some of the more trendy locales in Carlsbad Village.  But aside from that, I like this bar.  It definitely feels like a dive and it's pretty small and situated away from the heart of Carlsbad Village.  However, the drinks and food are cheap (and the food's actually pretty good in my opinion!), and the bartenders/waitresses are really nice.  The locals are pretty friendly and laid-back, definitely not like the Orange County locals I used to live with (haha)...although this is San Diego we're talking about.

Anyway, it's just a good place to relax with friends (or make new ones, heheheh...). :)

Time for a re-review.  I've ducked into the G occasionally  since my 2007 one-star review and found that the staff consistently pours a stiff drink with a big-ass smile and making sure everyone is having a raucous good time.

In other words, I haven't ducked in reluctantly.

I haven't seen drunky-the-owner in the while, either.  New owner?  Doesn't mess with the customers anymore?  I don't know.

I even had a sandwich last time.  G, you're trending up.  And close to home.

I LOVE the G or G-spot (as it is affectionately known)! I just moved back after being gone for ten years and my friends have introduced me to this small local spot. The food is good, drinks are cheap and the staff is awesome (although I did lose a bet to the bartender yesterday). Lots of locals that hang out there and when a Chargers or Padres game is on the place can get packed (probably the only negative I can think of)

hands down the best bar food i've ever had. the g-spot is a bit divey and if it weren't for the really great food i would never come here.

i've had the burgers, wings, salads, and sandwiches but my favorite thing here is the scallops linguine. the scallops are large and supple, just like what a scallop should be. i get it with the cream sauce from the seafood pasta dish and ask for a side of diablo sauce, and then mix it together. absolute yumminess.

This is a great place in my opinion. They have cheap drinks, great food, good wait staff and a good local crowd, you cannot beat any of those things. They have food and drink specials every night of the week.

One negative jk,  if a guy walks in and starts playing megadeath be prepared for a long night haha

The G-spot is a great place to just get away and have a few drinks.  Now, understand, unless you are in the HUGE smoking area, there ain't a lot of seats.  And unless you are really, really early - forget a spot at the bar.  Some of those dudes may be welded there.  Norm from Cheers has nothing on them.

Food - huge, tasty, and affordable.

Service - you'll get one of two things.  Super friendly but over-worked (aka - your glass will be empty and you'll stare at it till you make out the shroud of turin on the side.  Or two - you'll get the "I don't give a fuck, what do you want?  Great.  You'll get it when you get it" person.

So - know going in:  it's a local haunt, lots of regulars and dicey service, but great food and portion sizes.  Just bring some Purell - from the tables to the paper menus to the shitter (and pray you don't need to use it)  :-)

I don't go to the G spot to watch games or drink (other than a bloody Mary with breakfast!) so I don't have a point of reference for the complaints in some of the other reviews.  We eat here for breakfast occasionally and have always loved the place.  It is a dive and the service can be interesting but breakfast is GREAT!  They have wonderful Posole (Pozole??) that is not to be missed.  Chorizo and eggs and all the other dishes we have tried have been wonderful and huge portions.  Good salsa too.  Great people watching place!

The ole G Spot. You know I've heard the food is good but never tried it. Jerry Buss (owner of the Lakers) got a DUI down the street. Perhaps he left the G? But I digress.

The prices are cheap and  the main section feels like your in someones living room drinking a beer. I've found the staff to be from non-caring to very nice, but never rude. You can smoke in the back room because the walls don't reach the ceiling. So it feels like your smoking indoors.

I don't go here often, but when I do I wonder why I don't come here more. Oh ya...depressed old dudes playng "wooly bully"

The "G Spot" - "Now you know where to find it."

Gary (part owner) told me that once.  *grins*  LOL

I'm here once a year after running the Carlsbad 5k.  You can't miss it since it's right next to the starting line.  I should try coming any other time of day or week, but I enjoy myself when it's packed with runners following the 5k.

The menu is ok and the food works and after a morning 5k, given time and location, the G Spot works for me.
