Tuesdays are free Mate days. Â When you show up, they have 3-5 mates for free for you whether you order lunch or not.
This place impressed me for a couple of reasons. Â The food appeared to us to be very fresh and huge portions. Â The staff is very friendly.
Free wifi. Â Huge space for eating, reading, talking. Â Although there's not private space, it feels private somehow. Â Maybe the table spacing is bigger than I'm used to. Â
We walked in to do a tasting, not realizing they sold food too, and without hesitating they invited us to try the Mate and eat our meal in the common room. Â
With staff so friendly and non pushy, and delicious Mate, how could I review anything other than 5 stars?
I'm torn about writing this review because the place is like a secret I don't want to give away XD The company Guayaki is well known but this little cafe attached to their building is so inconspicuous I've driven by hundreds of times and never gone in. THEN ONE DAY, I did. Now I go all the time. They are a cafe but they serve food and they have some of the best vegan/vegetarian food options I have come across. Not only that but it is obscenely reasonably well priced considering they attempt to buy their ingredients as responsibly as possible (local, organic, etc.) Also their yerba mate is fantastic. Tuesday is free mate day. They've got a lounge in the back complete with artwork and dartboard. I love going here.
Review Source:Hello everyone, please pay attention to what I'm about to say.
At first glance, or even visit, one can easily overlook to true value of this establishment. Getting caught up in the Mate drinks is not a bad thing, it's just most of the time you'll miss the number one most important shining gem about this place:
BEST VEGAN FOOD SONOMA COUNTY
Indeed, that is a hard title to live up to, but I implore you to try it. Next time you go in, or even if you've been there before, try the food.
The vegan burger topped with vegan chili. I have yet to have a better one. And I've had many, MANY, before and after it that still don't come close.
Besides, they make the chili from scratch and they're very particular about getting the quality right.
IF you are vegan, and live in Sonoma County, you are missing out if you have not tried the food. Do everyone a favor and go down there before they close at 3pm and order a blended drink and the vegan burger with the home made vegan chili. The bun is GMO free too, and the beanitos chips are the best in the world.
I can't stress enough how many vegan and vegetarian places I've tried, and this one isn't even a restaurant, it just happens to serve food.
Great job guys, you are awesome!
First time in Sebastopol and stumbled upon the North American HQ and love it! Â Clean space, lots of selection, friendly employees. Â Danielle helped me out as I was giddy with a bunch of questions, ultimately I ordered an iced yerba mate latte with coconut milk and a little agave to sweeten and bought a bag of loose leaf. Â Looking forward to coming back!
**a little tip, pick up the free "shop local" card and get a discount right at your purchase. Â Totally worth it!
I checked out the Guayaki Mate Bar last week and was overjoyed at the uniqueness of the mate bar/cafe. It was a one man show, same person on the cashier and preparing food/beverages. Reasonably priced and really different drinks available. I had a drink with rose water, freshly made almond milk, and mate with sprigs of mint, which was really refreshing. The quiche was a little burned, but yummy as well.
One thing, don't come here when you're in a hurry. Service takes a little while considering staffing.
Very expensive; the atmosphere in the front room is ok, but the back room feels like you were told to go play with your friend in the basement. Â The guy behind the counter has a lot of attitude and is not always pleasant. Â I stop in once in a while because the food is local and not bad and the mate is good, but the overall experience could be much better.
Review Source:I adore Guayaki. I am totally addicted to the mate and couldn't be happier spending my money on a such a great company on a regular basis. Better World Shopper even rated it in their Top 10 "Small But Beautiful" Companies and it is so evident that they deserve it.
I just wish the cafe was open on weekends. I was excited to take my Mom there a few Saturdays ago and disappointed that they were closed. They have....honestly... the BEST veggie burger I have ever had. EVER. And David seems to always be in a sunny mood!! He makes going into the cafe a truly warm experience.
i try to steer clear of coffee, so when i need that extra jolt i've always gone for yerba mate. Â the most popular brand in my cabinet? Â guayaki! Â so imagine my surprise when i move 2200 miles and end up 5 minutes from their only cafe.
i cant for the food yet but the mate is great! Â so many varieties, so many drinks. Â the people are always friendly and helpful. Â i always get a little bit of education with my mate. Â there are also very high quality sweeteners available.
they have very limited hours (11-3 during the week only) and are sometimes randomly closed during their regular hours, so it's not a bad idea to call and make sure they're there.
I love this place. Â I love the tea. Â It isn't a scene, it isn't a cult, it isn't some group of errant hippies thinking they are saving the entire world with a beverage. Â It is a group of smart people making some interesting drinks that are healthy, ethically and responsibly produced, and exist to help people find alternative to soda and the like.
I like it. Â Nice people. Â Some great flavours. Â That's about it... enjoy!
Guayaki Yerba Mate Bar is a rainforest-themed coffee/tea shop on the Gravenstein Highway as it winds its way into Sebastopol. It's in an unlikely spot. It's across the street from an empty lot, beside a liquor store, and the place itself is basically a factory store. It has a relaxed, groovy, hippie,New Age vibe.
Positive aspects-personable service,excellent yerba mate,good organic food.
Negative aspects-it's awfully small,a constantly changing policy on refills, and slightly overpriced.
The Guayaki Yerba Mate is an energizing way to spend the morning if you plan on sightseeing in Sebastopol. It's got a caffeinated kick in the morning!
