Years ago, I grew up in Oakdale. After my living overseas for the last 25 years, I was surprised to see that the H-B was still there..... But, it has been there since 18-whateverthef*ck, and probably will continue to be there just as long as Oakdale is there. Sure, the days of shootouts from upstairs at the Yosemite Hotel or the steam trains from the old Southern Pacific depot across the street may be long gone (and they should have left it painted red!), but the H-B continues on into the 21st century. I guess all that 4-wheel drive driving, mechanical-bull riding, Warnerville Road streetsign target practice with shotguns, and Copenhagen Snuff end up leaving folks with one hell of a thirst, and that's where the H-B has come in for many years.
Since I used to be well known in Oakdale (years ago), I just decided the other night to put on a disguise and go to the H-B for a few drinks. I had a damn good time! (although if people had realized who I am, they probably would have killed me.... HA!HA!). Anyway, skipping my social issues, the H-B is a pretty good time. It's not too pricey, it SHOULD be a historical landmark, and it is a worthy establishment. If you are in Oakdale and you only have enough time to go to one bar, this is the one you want to go to!
Helloooo Cowboy Central!
Came here for a beverage cause this is the place to go in Oakdale. Â
The walls are covered in cowboy memorabilia (I guess the owners son is a pretty famous Oakdale bull rider). Â
Everyone knows everyone here, I'm sure I stood out like a sore thumb, but everyone was very friendly nonetheless.
This bar is like any other country bar in the sense that it was full of cowboys, cowgirls and like another reviewer said oozes with honkey-tonk. Â In fact there was a rodeo in town and this is where everyone came afterward, spurs and all!
