The Happ Inn used to cater events at my work when I worked in Highland Park. Â I was in the area and it was time for lunch, so I decided to check out the Happ Inn.
My mom and I both ordered the Triple Lunch Combo. Â This included a small Happ Salad, a soup and a little slider of your choice. Â I chose the Turkey Chili for my soup and the tilapia slider. Â It was $11 per person which seemed a bit pricey for what we got. Â The food was good, but I remembered it being better when it was catered.
The service was the main reason I took a star off. Â Our waiter seemed spacey and kept disappearing for a while. Â I wanted extra dressing because the salad came out a bit dry. Â I finished my slider and burger and still had to wait until he came out so I could get the extra dressing.
I was impressed by how nice the interior was, I was expecting more of a bar. Â But, Happ Inn was very classy. Â I would go back during dinner hours.
Love the happ in. Â I love that they offer a selection of gluten free choices, including gluten free burgers. Â Typically if a gluten free burger is offered that means a burger sans the bun, or wrappe in lettuce. Â Not at the happ in!! They have gluten free buns, and they taste good! Â They have some fun happy hour specials and I love their bar seating! Â I knocked off one star because their "outdoor seating" is always enclosed. Â It's a plastic zip off cover that seems so easy but I have yet to be there with it off. Â With our summers so short I like to make the most of it so I am always bummed that they don't take advantage of it.
Overall fantastic place!
The Happ Inn is in a modest strip mall off of the Edens which offers a lot more than its unassuming exterior portrays.
I went there for dinner with a friend after running errands...and the place was packed on a Tuesday night. Maybe it was the $4 draft beer specials they had. Speaking of that, they had one of my (current) favorites, Three Floyds (Robert the Bruce for those NW Indiana fans), so that earned them a star right off the bat.
The service was excellent and the American dinner choices are solid. Tilapia sliders to start and a falafel and black bean burger for dinner. Yum. There is a very solid burger menu for the carnivores.
The next time my car is in disrepair and I have to again take it in for service at the dealership on Frontage Road, a stop at Happ Inn is on the list.
